Klefki seeeeeems like it's convinced for a moment, but just as Eve's hand is about to clasp around the pilfered key, Klefki chimes and twirls it out of reach again! Sneaky! Eve stumbles a bit in response (much to Klefki's amusement), but manages to avoid falling flat on her face in the process.

"Ah? Uwah! Safe!" Eve recovers from her near fall about as gracefully as a Walrein. Then, she returns to trying to convince the Klefki, "Come on. Come on. Klefki. Please give me back my key... Are you not giving it back because you want to play? I can send out playmates for you to play with. Would you like that? Or... you know what else is at the ranch? The ranch has keys and a buuunch of other Pokemon! Loads of them!". She's no longer running. Instead, she's hunched over and panting, trying to catch her breath.

Klefki seems to sense that the game is at an end and (surprisingly) returns Eve's key. It does, however, jingle its keys at her, as if to suggest she must provide a replacement key.

"A?... Ah... Um..." Eve looks at the key that the Klefki stole. Yes, she needed this one. She looks through the other keys. Yes, she needed all of those, too. "Hm... I can't give you any of the keys I have on me, but what I can do," Eve offers an alternative, "is take you back home to the ranch with me. I'm sure there are plenty of spare keys lying around. Hey, if you join us at the ranch, the others might even take a liking to you and make you our key-per! Ey? How does that sound?". Eve puns but she seriously does offer the Klefki a basic ball.

Floyd... would appreciate this Klefki, right? Eve was sure Floyd would love to add this... cute... tiny... girly Pokemon on his team. Yes! Certainly! It is a steel-type after all!
Anyways, Eve... looks around and tries to reorient herself after that dizzying chase through the fields with the Klefki... Which way was home again?

Taillow continues to swoop and dive at Eve until it is satisfied that she's left its territory. Which takes something like.. 10 minutes, but feels like forrreeevvveeerrr.

Eve is clutching at her head and looking teary-eyed into the Taillow's territory wondering what had just happened and if she should take revenge on the meanie bird. She looks at her two remaining basic balls and decides that... nah... It isn't worth it.
...
Tempting as it may be to fire a laser at the bird, but that would be just childish at this point. Eve simply turns around and continues the rest of the way back home.

The Gym is... exactly how Eve remembers it. Just inside, there is a notice posted. It reads as follows:
"Dear Challengers,
Nalkeya is on a mandatory month-long break to re-evaluate herself. Since we obviously can't shut down the Gym for that long, I've roped in some friends to help run it.
