BBCode in Posts
The Basics
- Font Face can be used with forum-friendly fonts to give your posts a unique appearance. Don't overuse it though!
- Font Size is rather straightforward. Text too large or small is frowned upon as it becomes annoying to read.
- The Color Wheel allows for a unique way of presenting your characters' dialogue, among other things. Typically a user's entire post is the default color with the exception of character voice-- "which is instead displayed like this." If you prefer not to use hex color codes, an excellent list of forum-friendly colors can be found here!
- Bold, Italics, Underline, and Strikethrough should all be used
inmoderation. You can also apply these by highlighting text and using the corresponding keyboard shortcuts. - Subscript and Superscript work to make some text small up high (superscript) and some text small down low (subscript). However, as this forum's font is naturally small, it's not advised...
Post Formatting
- Left (default), Centered, Right, and Justified text alignment may be used for stylization purposes in some situations-- but for the most part, please stick with the default!
- Tables can be extremely handy, especially if you like to keep your character's combat status on-hand and don't mind updating it.
- Lists are useful for providing information in a neat and straightforward way, as seen here.
- Horizontal Rule inserts a line across the post, as can be seen under the title of this thread. This is especially handy for time skips or scene-shifts in campaigns.
Links & Insertions
- Apart from a picture insert, none of these are necessary (or even that helpful) for role-play purposes. Please keep in mind that you are able to add a URL to "Post Avatar" below the subject of each post, wish will replace your 150x150 mini-profile avatar for that post only. If you have further questions about these tools, you may PM me.
Plugin Tools ("Fun Stuff")
- Whisper is an interesting tool which will allow you to write part of a post so that only designated users (and the admins) will be able to see the hidden contents. When selected, a pop-up will appear asking which users you'd like to post the whisper to. Submit the USERNAMES, as can be found on individual profile pages (NOT Display Names), and between the resulting tags you can enter the text or images you'd like included in it.
- (Ignore Insert Embed, it's unnecessary but inconveniently placed in the list).
- Dice Rolls are the bread-and-butter of mechanical tabletop games such as PTU & PTA. Pressing the die button will raise a pop-up asking for the 'range' of the dice you'd like to roll. The dice roller supports addition and subtraction. Custom roll tags will be made public at a later date.
- Spoiler Tags are helpful for organizing information and hiding 'Out of Character' remarks and mechanical details. When prompted by the pop-up, you may enter any desired text which will then be hidden by an obvious tag. *Please note that the Spoiler plugin(s) are undergoing renovations at the moment and the appearance of the tag may be changed.*
- Draw a Picture is a mechanically unimportant but fun feature in which you can free-hand a picture and attach it to your post. Anyone who quotes that post can then further edit your picture, adding their own input to the graphic. We look forward to seeing what you can do with this!
Hidden BBCode Features
- Presto Box is an unusual tool that allows you to overlay text on top of an image; the text will show when the mouse pointer rolls over the image box, which fades until the mouse is removed from it. The formatting for Presto Box is as follows:
[presto][img]IMAGE URL HERE[/img] TEXT FOR UNDER THE IMAGE HERE[/presto]
.
This results in the rollovers you can see for the boards on the main page of the forum!
On-Site Features
Your Mini-Profile
- The 150x150 Avatar is a standard-size forum avatar which can be uploaded or linked to in your profile. However, when the 'Post Avatar' textbox beneath a Thread or Post's subject is filled in with a suitable URL, it will be replaced for a single post by whatever image was linked!
- The 200x350 Avatar is the first image a player will see when scrolling past your Mini-Profile in posts. This avatar can be changed by going to Profile > Edit Profile > Personal, and then is listed near the bottom.
- The Music Player is a nifty little feature which allows you to attach a short MP3 for other members to play by clicking a button in your Mini Profile. Please note that only .mp3 files are functional at this time. It can be modified by going to Profile > Edit Profile > Personal, and then is listed near the bottom.
- Likes are a friendly and positive way of showing other players your admiration, appreciation, and feedback. 'Likes' are gained when individuals click the similarly named button above each post. It's highly encouraged that you reward people for good spirits, good roleplaying-- and being a good person!
Communication & Community
- On PbP we have potential Awards that can be given out for certain events or milestones reached as a player and forumite. Information as to qualifications for awards will be given as the awards are decided and created. These appear in your main profile for everyone to see.
- Private Messaging is an extremely important (and effective) way of getting in touch with your GMs, players, staff, or simply other members of the community. While PMs are a private space inaccessible even by the admins, we ask that you mind your manners. If you must roleplay material which might be considered 'explicit' due to excessive violence, mature relationships, and the like, we ask that you only do so via PM. PbP also boasts a handy pop-up alerts to quickly inform you of any new messages.
- On each of the forum navigation bars is a button for your Participated threads; when a reply has been given in a thread you have previously posted in, the 'Participated' button below the banner will alert you with a 'NEW' icon. This is an extremely handy way of keeping track of your threads and applications!
