Clay bites his lip as he considers the barrier. He remembers hearing about these at the Guild - and learning a strike that can break through even something like that. Unfortunately, Sandy doesn't know it. But if he remembers right, it deflects elemental attacks, not physical strikes. "Hey, Sandy, time to show off your new trick!"
Sandy backs off for a moment - then suddenly starts kicking up a shower of stones that rain down around the pale Electrode, throwing out sharp shrapnel.

As the rocks pelt the Electrode, it suddenly begins to look a lot more like a rock type pokemon. What the what? Since when can Electrode do that?
Electrode's Color Change made it the Rock Type!
"Hmm. A ground type, eh? Well, that's alright. We'll figure something out."
Electrode powers up! It uses Charge! +1 SDEF CS.

"Wow, that's a new trick. How'd you get it to do that?" Clay's undaunted though. A blue glow gathers at the "third eye" spot on his forehead, feeding power back into Sandy as the Marshtomp fires a heavy glob of mud that explodes right in the Electrode's face!

"Heheheh. By doing something that you probably wouldn't think is possible. Heck, might not even be possible for you. Hope you're prepared, kid, things are about to get... explosive. May want to take cover."
Electrode first becomes the Ground Type, and then begins to glow brightly. Bob hides behind a nearby barrel that you swear wasn't there before, and there is equal cover for Clay as Electrode does what they do best: explodes.

Once the smoke clears, and Electrode is recalled, Bob sends out a large, black bird with a white chest tuft. Looks kinda like a bigger version of Kopi. Could this be its evolved form?

Clay does a very acrobatic flip around the corner when Bob warns him to take cover, because that sure doesn't sound like a figure of speech. Sandy is unfortunately not so lucky as he takes the brunt of a massive explosion. He weathers it surprisingly well, considerably... at least in that he's not completely splattered across the blast radius. He's still left blackened and obviously beaten, flat on his back.
Clay's eyes are wide when he peeks back around the corner. "... Wow. You gotta be careful with that thing. All your Pokémon don't do that, do they?" Granted, going boom is pretty much what Electrode do, and the big black bird in the impressive hat doesn't look terribly explosive.
It does look pretty big and tough, but Clay's got a big, tough monster of his own. "We're one for one. Get 'em, Red Child!" The Arcanine appears with a rumbling growl from deep in his chest, teeth bared. Clay raps out a sharp bark as the blue light from his brow winks out, to be replaced by a red light around his hands that's echoed by a glint from Red Child's teeth. Then Red Child rushes the bird with fire streaming from his jaws.

The bird nimbly dodges the attack and narrows its eyes at Red Child. It seems like it's plotting something... Clay gets flashbacks to that Pikachu nest from so long ago. Pokemon plotting things usually ends badly for him.

Plotting isn't good. Plotting is very not good. On the other hand, the best way to deal with plotting is to nip it in the bud. Or other places.
Clay barks out, "Try again! He's planning something, get him before he does it!"
Red Child remembers the incident with the Pikachu nest, too. He leaps after the bird, snapping at it again.

"What? No way!" Clay's mad now. The change in the shade of Honchkrow's feathers gives him an idea, though. "You're gonna pay for that one... Mufomono! Let's put out this guy's fire!"
Mufomono crosses her arms, staring down the heavy-bodied bird with her dark-shaded eyes, and snaps her jaws threateningly. The same red aura that flashed from Red Child's fangs shines off of her teeth now, too - but rather than go in for a bite right away, she whirls around, kicking up swirling dust that surrounds the Honchkrow.

Making it Dark-type again might have been a mistake... although not too much of one, since it makes Mufomono much more resistant to that nasty slash of its beak. She tries to whip up a stream of sand around it again, hoping this time it won't evade.

"Okay, what the heck is that thing?" Clay shakes his head. He recognizes the attack, though - the same sparkly energy that Delcatty had used. And it has pretty much the same effect on Mufomono now that it did then.
"Last chance, huh? Have to make this one count. Let's go, sis!" Fan tumbles onto the field with a defiant screech, and Clay screeches with her, their fists glowing red in unison now. "Burn it down!"
Fan cartwheels at the bird thing, battering it with fiery fists and swinging the flame on the end of her tail at its face as if to scorch it. Then she tumbles out of her acrobatic motion to swing a lightning jab at her opponent!

Fan's double tap certainly hurts, but this thing is pretty sturdy. It quickly shifts from non-typed to Fire Type, to Fighting type as each attack rolls over it. It sends a stream of air at Fan.

Fan is breathing hard, her fur rumpled and singed by her opponent's energy and showing a few cuts from that razor-sharp wind, but she's still standing. She grins fiercely at the thing and delivers another lightning-quick uppercut. This is one monkey who isn't going down without a fight.
