The Riolu shakes his hand. He had a particularly strong grip, especially considering his size. At the mention of a nickname, he seemed to tap on his bottom jaw for a minute, clearly thinking it over, before nodding with a smile. "Ri, ri-lu!" He seemed satisfied with the name.
Professor Ivy looked over at Valerie as the trainers and pokemon got acquainted. "We have over 30 species of pokemon sharing the enclosure," the professor said proudly, "and that's not counting evolved forms." Although the water was clear, it became quite deep. Valerie could only see a few different species swimming about. A school of Magikarp here, a Seaking there, what looked like Staryu, Krabby, and Clauncher sharing the shore. "And we're just nearing our one year mark for the invasive species study. It took quite a while to get everything settled down at first."

Julie stares down at the little tadpole, blinks at a few times, and then squees loudly in excitement, reaching down and scooping it up in her hands. "Oh my gosh it's so adooooooooooorable~!" She hugs it tightly to herself for a moment before staring down at it, trying to think up a name for it. "Now let's see, what should I call you... How about... Tear? Do you like that?"

Matt watched the two other Trainers get their starters, before releasing Bulwark by his side and looking down at the Aron "I remember when you hatched Bul, I was about as excited as they are now" He smiled and pat the Steel Pokemon on the head
He whistled a bit when the Professor mentioned how many Pokemon were in the bay "Thirty different species in here alone? That's impressive"

Steven grins. "Awesome! I think you and I are gonna have loads of fun, Sirius, don'tcha think so?"
Having made introductions with his new partner, he stands back up. He had managed to somewhat keep up with the conversation the others were having. "Thirty species? Wow, that's quite a few fish in what is not even all that big a barrel, relatively speaking. I get why you'd want to keep this place a secret, shooting here would end up disastrous..."
He trails off for a moment, before turning to Julie, a devilish grin on his face. Even if he had been preoccupied at the moment, he had certainly heard her squee... loudly so. "Well, it sounded like someone was excited about their new partner. Maybe you need to be a bit louder, Jules, I don't think they heard you all the way over in Kanto."

"I can only imagine the trouble it must have been, getting all of them here and settled..." Val says, "I mean, I can't imagine something like a Spheal enjoying it here, seeing as how they just love the water back home."
She laughs at the reactions to the other trainers getting their Pokémon. "Well, you guys certainly have more enthusiasm than I did..." she admits. "I guess I was really holding out for a fire type. But I wouldn't give Dinah up now. Whoops." She realizes she hasn't released the Solosis again after the ride over, which she does now.

Sirius nodded vigorously. "Lu, lu!" Fun was clearly something he was looking forward too.
Dinah floats around, clearly happy to be out of her ball.
The Tympole embraced the surprise-hug, cuddling up close with Julie. At the mention of a name, though, it looked confused. It knew what tears were...but after a brief second it looked like it realized something and nodded enthusiastically. "Tympole, Tympole!"
Bulwark grinned happily as Matt pat his head. "Ah-ron...," it said happily. After a minute it waddled over toward Sirius, the Riolu. The two seemed to try and get the measure of one another, each standing a little straighter...sizing one another up.
"Yes, it's pretty crowded down there," she said with a grin, "but that helps to provide better data on their interactions." She looked over at Sirius and Bulwark, each trying to act more macho than the other. "Speaking of interactions, it looks like you might have a handful on your hands with these two," she grinned.
"Well, as much as I would love to get you all registered so you can start your journey, unfortunately we can't do that right now," Professor Ivy said with a frown. "Our main transmitter is down, so we can't connect to the League Database to sign you up," she frowned. "I sent Randy over to the old blimp station to repair the transmitter a few hours ago, but we never heard anything back from him, and I'm starting to get worried...," she said, crossing her arms.
Jeff spoke up though, interrupting her silence. "Professor Ivy, why not ask our new trainers to go check on Randy?," he suggested. "I think that would be a great opportunity for them to get to know their pokemon, and maybe even catch a few more on the island."
Professor Ivy looked over at Jeff with a beaming smile. "That's a great idea Jeff! Well, what do you all think?," she asked, looking at the four young trainers.

"Sounds great!" Val says, enthusiastically. A trek on the Orange Islands? Sign her up! "I mean, it should all be fine, right? Just a little adventure."

Julie had been all grins and smiles upon meeting her new friend, and she turns to Steven with a grin, taking it well, until he calls her Jules. At this, she narrows her eyes and ignores him with a huff, turning her attention back down towards Tear, coddling it and tickling it under the chin.
At Ivy's comment that Uncle Randy hadn't been heard from for a few hours, Julie's face turns to genuine concern and worry. That didn't sound like Uncle Randy... At Jeff's suggestion, Julie nods quickly in agreement. Even if nothing was wrong, this way, she'd get to say goodbye to him. "I agree, sounds like a good idea. I hope Uncle Randy is alright..."

Steven keeps grinning despite Julie's huffed dismissal, though he does make a mental note. No Jules, got it.
He metaphorically rubs his hand at the prospect of an adventure. He nods, grinning brightly. "Count me in! Some adventure to start the day, what's better than that?"

Watching Bulwark and Sirius, a smile crossed Matts lips "It looks like those two might want a battle at some point, to test each other" He says to Steven
Matt nodded "Me and Bul are always up for the chance to do something that helps us get stronger! And, uh, helping find out if he's ok is good too" he adds sheepishly

Dinah watched the events unfold, impassive and curious. Tear, the little Tympole, seemed to be tremendously enjoying all of the attention it was getting, however when Julie became concerned, the little Tympole took notice, and made a gurgling, worried sound.
The tension was palpable between Sirius and Bulwark. It seemed like neither pokemon was willing to back down from in front of the other...until this mention of adventure, helping someone, and possible danger came up. Both immediately, and simultaneously, turned toward Professor Ivy, each clearly dead-set on going on this mission. Of course, once they both realized that the other was doing the same, they set to glaring at each-other again.
"Oh my," Professor Ivy said, amused. "Well, I'm sure with you two big, strong, brave pokemon there will be nothing to worry about."
Bulwark nodded his head a deep Sirius thumped his paw on his chest. However, as they had both responded in functionally the same way, this only served to irritate the pair. After growling at one another briefly, the two turned away from each other and tooK up position by their trainers.
"That's great to hear that you will go check on Randy. I think this will be a great bonding experience for you and your pokemon. Oh, before you go, I have something for you all that should come in handy. Just give me one moment," Professor Ivy said, walking over to a duffel bag on the pier. She returned and handed each trainee five pokeballs and a potion each, as well as giving Steven and Julie their starter's pokeballs.
"These are your new trainer supplies. I think they might come in handy, since there are plenty of wild pokemon on the island," she said, grinning.
"If you follow the road back up the cliffs, and then cut through the forest to the southwest, you should find the old airstation no-problem," she said. "If you get lost, just climb up a tree and look for a big metal tower. We'll be here, waiting for you," she added with a smile. "Good luck!"

As soon as the directions are given, Julie begins to head off down the path, expecting the others to follow. She tries to keep the worry off of her face, but it's obvious she's bothered by this whole Randy Not Responding thing. It wasn't like he was an old man who just forgot to check his phone and keep in contact, he was incredible with technology, and something wasn't right. As she went along the path, she kept her eyes peeled for anything of interest, or any signs that something might be wrong. Julie Perception: 0frLHKG83d6 Tear Perception: 2d6+13d6·2d6+1

Steven grins at Sirius' antics, shaking his head slightly. When the canine returns to his side, he kneels down next to him. He whispers to him "Later buddy. Let's first get used to each other and train for a bit. I'm sure that if we train for a bit, get you a bit more adept at fighting, you'll tear that Bulwark down like cardboard. For now though, keep it cool, show him that you're the better man--eh, mon, don't give in to his tauntings... at least, openly. If you wanna prank him, I'm all in." He grins cheekily. "What do you say, sound like a plan?"Once the Riolu has answered, he gets back up. Accepting the supplies the professor handed them, he nods, quickly stashing the potion in his bag and attaching the balls to his belt. "Thanks prof. No worries, we'll get your people back in no time," he says, before waving once in a farewell and following behind Julie, jogging for a bit to catch up and walk next to her, for as much is possible, keeping a careful eye out as he's walking, motioning for Sirius to do the same. "Thanks, Professor!" Val says, before realizing Julie had already begun to leave. "Hey! Wait up!" Oh, how exciting! she thinks, A romp through the forest to see a research station. Well, another station. And it hasn't even been a full day...

"Bulwark. Back down." Matt says in a deep tone before bending down and setting his hand on the Arons head "Being a troublemaker is my job, you're supposed to be the good influence here"
Seeing everyone else run off, Matt sighs a bit before turning to the Professor "Err, thanks for the items. We'll be sure to find the guy!" before taking off after the others
After catching up, Matt begins to look for signs of regular paths that Pokemon might take, remembering things that Tyrol had taught him inbetween battle lessons, keeping Bul at his side
"So, Julie, what can you tell us about the guy we're looking for?" Matt asks, moving closer to the girl and Steven

Bulwark looked up at Matt with a mixture of dismay and shock, mouth agape and speechless and the Stern rebuke. Sirius took note of this and had a triumphant look on his face. Bulwark and Sirius locked eyes again, their tension returning before they both abruptly turned away from one another, taking up positions on the far side of their trainers. Sirius seemed fairly content, walking with his head held high, but Bulwark was crestfallen, his head down. Meanwhile, Tear is bouncing along happily enough, though it grows more worried as Julie's concern grows. Dinah floats around Valerie's head obliviously, not paying any particular mind to anything and just enjoying the day.
Eventually the four of you come to the forest. There is no path, but it isn't particularly thick, and you're able to navigate your way through with relative ease. You can all hear the sounds of nearby wild pokemon. As you all continue through, you each notice something a little
Matt:
As you and Bulwark walk along, you notice something up ahead. There, on a downed log, crawling up its mossy surface...a green worm-like pokemon. It doesn't seem to have noticed you...
Julie:
You hear something rustling in a nearby fern bush. As you approach, you find a small worm-like pokemon fussing about with a leaf. It seems focused on its task and hasn't noticed you.
Steven:
Something catches in the corner of your eye. There. A tuft of which sticking out beneath a large elephant-ear leaf. Sirius notices it too and approaches quickly, peeling the leaf back. There, beneath the leaf, is a sleeping black and white worm-like pokemon.
Valerie:
As you walk by, not searching for anything in particular, you don't notice until it's almost too late. A spray of sticky white string passes just inches in front of your nose, sticking to a tree limb above, and a pink and tan blur passes just inches in front of your face. As you follow this sudden rush of motion, you see a tan worm with a large, intimidating point on its head staring down at you from the branch. It looks irritated by the near-miss.

Julie looks down at the little bug, blinking and tilting her head. It was a cute sort of little thing. Surely it wouldn't take too long to capture it, right? She would crouch down and then very quietly begin to hum, hoping not to startle it. Once she had its attention she would smile at it, trying to calm it down and seem non-threatening. "Hey there little one. What do you got there?" Charm roll: 8

Steven raises his eyebrows at the sleeping bug, before smiling when he recognizes it as a Scatterbug. "Neat! Scatterbug..." He thinks for a moment on what to do. "Hmmm... what to do, what to do. I could probably just capture it, but it's sleeping, that seems mean. What do you think, Sirius?" he asks the canine, not really trying to be quiet in the least.

Sirius merely looked at Steven and shrugged. This wasn't his decision to make. The Scatterbug continued to doze happily.
As the Sewaddle's concentration was broken by a strange humming sound, it turned around and jumped, frightened by the trainer. Upon hearing Julie's voice however, it calmed down somewhat, though it still seemed apprehensive. "Waddle?," it asked, holding up the leaf. It was clear that the Sewaddle was attempting to shape the leaf into something specific.

Matt frowned as he walked along, looking down at Bulwark "Pout all you want, it won't change anything. I expect more from you, it doesn't matter if Sirius started it, you need to be the bigger mon."
After walking along for a bit longer, he saw the Caterpie and smiled "I know what you need Bul. You need a battle to get back into the swing of things and remember that I DO want whats best for you"
Taking a few steps forward, Matt called out to the Caterpie "Hey little guy, how would you like a friendly battle with my pal Bulwark?"
