As they enter the dark tower, Steven slings his backpack sideways so he can reach into it and rummages in it for a bit, before finally fishing out a sturdy looking flashlight and turns it on, the beam of light providing some additional lighting. Keeping a careful eye out, he decides to recall Leila for the moment before moving up towards the sound, knowing somewhere that had this might very well be a bad idea. Still, when has something being a bad idea ever stopped him? Steven Perception: 12 Sirius Perception: 12 Mystery roll: 1 Steven Acrobatics: 10 Sirius Athletics: 11

Julie tilts her head at the odd shrieks and buzzing sounds. What exactly was going on here? There shouldn't be any noises like that, not with the power out. She tries to place them for a moment, before beginning to follow Steven up the stairs. Rolls Galore Julie Perception: 13 Tear Perception: 9 Julie Tech Ed to try and place the noise: 14 Mystery roll:8

Matt returned his Pokemon before falling in line behind Steven and Julie, cursing himself for not having stocked up on stuff before heading to the lab. He would have to stop at a store at some point soon.

You all start up the tower...and it is a tall tower, easily six or seven stories high. The concrete stairs are slick with water. Apparently somewhere up above water is collecting and dripping down.
To steady yourselves, you reach out to something for support. Valerie and Julie place a hand on the wall, while Matt and Steven grasp the handrails.
The noise above...it doesn't sound mechanical, although it's hard to tell. The screeching almost sounds like a voice. And what's that noise? A creaking and groaning, coming from much closer...what could it be?
Suddenly the handrail that Matt and Steven were gripping gives way, taking the two boys, and a portion of the stairs, with it! Instinctively, they try to grasp at something as they fall. Matt's hand finds the ledge, and Steven finds Matt's other hand. The handrail and chunk of stairs falls to the ground below with a Crunch and a thud. Steven still has the flashlight in his other hand, the beam of light pointed downward, illuminating the easily forty foot drop down the center of the tower.
Sirius is surprised by the sudden collapse, but collects himself immediately clutching at Matt's arm, trying to help pull Matt, and by extension, his trainer, back up.

One moment, Steven was calmly, if carefully, walking up the stairs. The next moment, he's hanging above a forty foot fall being suspended by Matt. "Matt," he says, in a surprisingly calm sounding voice, though a panicky edge can easily be recognised, "Do me a favour pal, and don't let go. Guys! Don't suppose any of you have any rope?! Or you know, just ... PULL US UP!" He's definetely panicking by the end of his statement.

The last little bit had all sort of been a blur for Val, but the collapsing stairwell brings her back to reality. The relief she feels at not being at the collapsing section immediately turns to worry once she realizes that only Julie is actually up there with her. Looking downwards at the hanging boys, Val calls back "We'll try..." before asking "Can.. you help them, Dinah? Are you strong enough?" There's quite a bit of worry in her voice... this wasn't what she'd expected coming here.

As the boys nearly tumble to their doom, Julie's eyes widen in panic. For a moment, she lunges down to try and grab onto Matt's arm, but it quickly becomes apparent to her that she won't be able to pull up the weight of both of them any time soon. Thinking fast, she pulls Sewaddle's pokeball from her side and releases it on the ground. "Quick, I need a sturdy rope attached to the wall that they can climb up! Can you do it?"

Matt griped the ledge with his one free hand, tightening his grip on Stevens arm "I wouldn't think of letting go" He says, the strain in his voice from holding up both himself and the other boy readily apparent. He silently cursed himself for not catching the Caterpie earlier, the little bug had show quite a lot of skill with it's webbing.
"Glad I didn't have Bul out for this. Poor fella would have fallen like a rock" Matt says with a wheezing chuckle, trying to lighten the mood a bit as he struggled to hang on

Dinah looks at Valerie and gives a curt nod. "Sis," she says confidently, and floats over to the edge, getting prepared. Sewaddle looks over at Julie and gives a determined nod. "Waddle," it says before getting to work fashioning a rope. Before long there is a silken cord of moderate length, long enough to reach down to Steven. Normally there's no way it could support his weight...but with Dinah providing a little psychic assistance it just might work! But the pokemon seem to be concerned, conversing amongst themselves...with Sirius busy helping to hold Matt and Steven up--and straining at that--they don't have anyone to anchor the rope while Steven climbs up, or gets pulled up... As if on cue, a pokeball on Matt's belt shudders and opens on its own. As the energy from the ball materializes, there's Bulwark, now on the ledge and ready to help. Bul and Sirius share the briefest glance as the rest of the pokemon start to move, each giving the other a curt nod, each one depending on the other to save his trainer. The Pokemon work fast, and before long the rope is tied off around Bulwark and sent dangling over the edge. Sewaddle stands ready at the edge, a keen eye out for any weaknesses in its rope. Bul braces himself, digging into the stairs near the wall. Dinah floats over the edge, her form and Steven's glowing a pale blue as the boy felt lighter. Sirius, last but not least, braced, getting ready to heave Matt up with all his might... So. Rolls we need.
Bulwark: Athletics
Sirius: Athletics
Dinah: Focus
Sewaddle: Perception or Intuition
Steven: Athletics or Acrobatics
Matt: Athletics or Acrobatics
Valerie and Julie can choose to aid any one person or pokemon with their skill checks by making a roll of the same type to assist them.

Steven grabs hold of the makeshift rope with his free hand, having stuck the flashlight in his backpocket, and, in a surprisingly agile and accurate move, manages to let go off Matt's hand and hold on tight to the rope without plummeting to his death. Once he has managed to get in a _slightly_ less precarious situation, he hangs there for a few moments, panting heavily.

"Bul, I could kiss you!" Matt yells out, before straining to lift Steven a bit closer to the rope. As soon as his fellow Trainer had a strong hold on the rope, Matt quickly moved his free hand to the ledge and with Sirius's help, began to pull himself up

"I'll hold you to that," Val teases Matt, moving over to help keep the rope from slipping down. That couldn't possibly have anything bad happen... right? 18 Focus for Dinah. 4 Acrobatics for Val... *sigh*

Sewaddle expertly manipulates the rope, doing what it needs to in order to keep it secure to allow Steven to climb. Julie in the meantime attempts to reach down and help Steven up, but her efforts are a bit hamper because of the sheet number of bodies in the area. Sewaddle: 14 Intuition, and I forgot to spend the AP on it... oh well Julie: 8 Acrobatics.

Everyone put their plan into action. The rope was anchored to Bulwark, who set his feet, braced and ready. Steven managed to grab hold of the silken lifeline and, supported by Dinah, and with the strength of desperation, he began to climb. Sewaddle stood watch for any problems with the cord...and found none. Matt, now with his other hand free, managed to get two hands on the ledge, and with help from Sirius, he began to haul himself up. And help the Riolu did, pulling with all its might and grunting with effort. Julie lay on the edge, arm outstretched toward Steven, and just out of reach. At this point Valerie grabbed the rope and began to try and haul Steven up...a dire mistake. The string shot rope, already stressed to the limit, could not take the extra stress. With Bulwark pulling one way, and now Valerie pulling another as she drew in the slack, wrapping it around her arm as she did, the line began to fray and suddenly snapped, right between Bulwark and Valerie. With the tension on the line suddenly gone, Bulwark tumbled backwards into the wall, and suddenly bereft of anchor, Valerie tumbled forward. Her weight was insufficient to hold up Steven's weight, and she was being dragged toward the edge. For Steven, the only warning he had was a straining sound, followed by a snap as he began to plummet. The others, however, acted on pure instinct. Julie's hand shot out, faster than the speed of thought, and grasped the line, trying to stop Steven's fall. Dinah, seeing the danger, expanded her focus, gripping Valerie with psychic power. The effort clearly strained the Solosis, and while Valerie began to glow blue and her skidding came to a stop, the glow around Steven diminished, and he felt heavier. Sewaddle desperately fired a cord of string shot at Steven, pulling with all its might to try and arrest his fall. The effort proved to be successful, as the cord strained and groaned...but it held. The swift actions of Julie and the pokemon bought a few precious seconds. Bulwark quickly collected himself and rushed forward, grabbing the line just in front of Valerie's grip and digging his feet into the stairs. Sirius, seeing Matt now had a leg up, judged him safe and rushed over, grabbing the rope side by side with Bulwark. The two shared a brief look and gave a slight nod before focusing on the task at hand. Slowly, steadily, and surely, pokemon and trainers pulled Steven up, and after what felt like an agonizing amount of time, everyone was finally safe on the stairs. Safe, but exhausted. Everyone, people and pokemon, lose 2 ticks of HP because of the extra stress and effort involved in the rescue. Also, all pokemon gain 15 pokemon exp, and trainers gain 2 Trainer Exp from this very valuable experience. You guys had so many high rolls, I didn't see a need to make you all roll again...but the extra effort was particularly stressful. Two two's for two ticks.

Steven just lies there one the ground for a few minutes, panting. Finally, he calms down a bit, and manages to struggle upwards in a standing position, though still leaning on his legs. "So guys... how's it hanging?" He grins weakly, "Thanks for the quick thinking and... saving my life and all that, by the way. Julie, you don't happen to know if they sell rope on this island, do you? Lots of sturdy rope. Think we might need it..." He stretches, takes his flashlight from his pocket, turns it back on and grins more widely now. "Well, if you guys are ready, let's keep moving. Onwards and upwards and all that fun jazz." He's recovering from almost dying remarkably fast. "Might as well make use of this adrenaline boost while we still have it."

Aaah! Val has enough time for her cold, desolate life to flash in front of her eyes, before it was all over. "Uh... sorry." She mumbles, with laboured breathing. It was almost her fault if the two of them hadn't made it...

Matt's chest heaves as he gulps in air, before laughing a bit as he crawled over to Bulwark and kissed the top of his head before turning to Val with a smile "There, told you I would"
He sits up, stretching out his arms and shoulders before looking to Steven "You know you're a lot heavier than you look. I might have to start working out more at this rate" He says with a chuckle "I'm glad you're ok though, I think the two of us need to be a bit more careful. That's the second time I've fallen from something today"
Slowly, Matt lifts himself the rest of the way up into a standing position and shakes his head a bit "Like I said Steven, let's be a bit more careful the rest of the way up"

Steven nods. "I know, I know, and I'm not saying we shouldn't be careful, just that we... keep moving. Who knows, the constant pressure of all of us on the stairs here" - he stomps the ground to make his point - "might very well be enough to send us all tumbling down the tower."

As the ordeal is finally over, Julie falls back onto the ground, panting from exertion and adrenaline. That was far too close for comfort. However, they didn't have much time for this, as they still needed to get to the top of the tower! Julie takes a moment to pick up her Sewaddle and place it on her shoulder before standing up, scooping Tear back up in her arms. "Well, no time to waste, let's get going!" As she begins making her way up the stairs, she turns to Sewaddle on her shoulder with a smile. "Thanks for the help with that. I'd give you a treat if I had any. I think I've decided on a name for you: Cloak! Do you like it?"

Your pokemon all seem to be just as exhausted as you are, resting where they lay for a moment. The first two to get up, Bulwark a deep Sirius, give each other a solemn nod. Then Matt crawls over, kissing Bulwark atop his head, a deep the little Aron seems embarrassed. This illicits a snigger from Sirius, which sets Bulwark off, and just like that the moment had passed. The Sewaddle looked at Julie with a nod, accepting its new name with a pleasant "Waddle". The last ten feet up go by uneventfully, and you find yourself facing the door to the old air traffic control room. You can hear a distinct metal screeching noise coming from inside, as well as irregular sparking, electrical noises. Trying the handle, you find that the door is unlocked, however something seems to be blocking the door, as if something had fallen across the door, and it only opens partially, but perhaps enough for someone to squeeze by... Perception against the sounds to try and identify them, the check being much easier since you're closer.
Also, Athletics to force the door open, or you can make an Acrobatics or Stealth roll to try and squeeze through the crack in the door, and squeeze past whatever is blocking it.
