Sentinel manages to do as Dean orders, raising his shield as he advances before turning to strike the target with his tail. This time the quills that stick to the iguard's tail leak a dark toxin, and it's clear the poison is already taking effect. Despite Sentinel apparent weakness, the attack is enough to unbalance the prikpin enough for Dean's pokéball to hit it straight in the face. The device shakes violently a couple of times, but it finally pings, showing Dean has concluded his first capture. The objective successfully acquired, the group starts cleaning up the situation. Pluc goes first, releasing another blast of saliva that pops around the bugs that instantly knocks out two of the muddlebee. Kasai moves next, and just as it shoots his blast of fire at the remaining worm, Erica recalls the dribbino out of the way and uses one of her cases to heal her pokémon. It seems, however, the remaining mudlebee was already planning its escape, and before the fire comes near it's already drilling into the mud with its tail, disappearing underground. The male prikpin growls as its mate disappears, then throws itself at Sentinel, giving it enough space to turn around and run away. DeanYou captured a Prikpin! Level: 6 Gender: Female Ability: Poison Point Nature: Impish Egg Move: Pursuit Damage: -33 HP and 2 Injuries. You can distribute its stats as you wish. You can also pick one Tutor Move to add to its Inheritance List, to be learned at a level corresponding to the September Playtest. ActionsSentinel hits Prikpin 1 with Pound. It activates Poison Point in response, Poisoning Sentinel. Sentinel loses 5 HP from Poison at the end of its turn. Dean captures Prikpin 1. Pluc hits Muddlebee 2 & 3 with Bubble, knocking both pokémon out. Erica recalls Pluc and uses a Potion in its case. Haruka uses Sage on Kasai. Kasai misses Muddlebee 1 with Coal Scatter.
Muddlebee 1 disengages underground.
Prickpin 2 hits Sentinel with Tackle, dealing 13 damage after defenses, which also cause 1 Injury. It then runs northeast. If Sentinel uses 1 use of Reflect, the damage is only 6, but he still takes the Injury (reaching 50% HP).
Both pokémon are trying to flee. It's up to you if you want to pursuit them or not. Either way, each of you gets 12 XP to distribute to your pokémon. Remember your starters get 20% extra due to Baby Food.

Seeing that their foes have fled the field, Haruka rushes over and portions out a serving of Enriched Water for him to drink, she shouldn't let him suffer longer than necessary. Though seeing that Kasai's condition improved, her worried face broke into a smile. "Great job, Kasai!" she exclaimed, scritching him behind the ears, hopefully distracting him from his missed attack. He seemed to have been pouting about it, but Haruka's praise seemed to raise his spirits... at least a little bit. He still seemed a bit discouraged the he didn't hit with the last attack though... he was sniffing at the soaked bugs which made Haruka shoo him away from them. "Hey, leave those things alone, they're all covered in mud anyway... as are you," Haruka narrowed her eyes slightly, "You're... going to need a bath later." The pokemon suddenly flinched and growled, he must know what the word meant. And given his reaction... attempting to wash off all the mud would be a fun experience. Haruka sighed, she'd probably have to sneak it up on him later.
She then sighed and peered after the retreating forms. No sense in going after things when they're running away anyway. It wasn't like she was going to hunt down pokemon and beat them up for no reason. She turned back to her two allies, "So, now that that's over... should we find somewhere to make camp? Preferably somewhere not muddy? Camping in places with mud is a... bad experience. It's getting a bit dark, but we should be able to find somewhere not covered in mud."

Erica walks over and picks up her new capture from the muddy ground. She removes the case and places it on another blank one, as well as switches the Flash case back onto Gapic. Pluc might be done for the moment.
She gets up and looks around.
"Uhhh yeah. Not really a camper but the best non-wet place we can find, please."

With the battle dying down, Dean makes a beeline to Sentinel worried that the injuries his partner suffered would prove to be too much to handle. When he reached his partner he immediately grabbed some supplies from his backpack, taking out a bottle of enriched water as well as a Pecha Berry. "Here boy, eat this pecha Berry. It will take care of the poison for now. Also, drink some of this water, it'll make you feel better."Dean watched as Sentinel weakly started to eat from the berry, the obvious hue indicating poison slowly disappearing from his Iguard skin as the little lizard continued to chew. Dean knows it's an important moment to share with Sentinel, as a first real battle can make or break the bond between a trainer and his starter. "You did great out there buddy. I threw you in against a couple of Pokémon that were a rough matchup and you handled yourself amazingly. That tail of yours sure packs a punch." Sentinel seemed pleased with the praise from his trainer, pride shining through in his eyes. As the creature drank the water and finished the berry it immediately looked a lot better. He wasn't like new by any means, but at least they could keep going for now. Iguard tapped his shield with his fingers, unsure of what to do next. It kept looking at the pokéball on the ground, where their new teammate was being kept. Dean caught on to the intentions of his Iguard and slowly got up from his crouch. "Thanks a lot Sentinel, I couldn't have done this without you. What do you say we welcome our new teammate before we move on, okay?" Sentinel nods and together with his trainer makes his way to where the pokéball is laying still on the grass. Dean grabs his other bottle of enriched water and presses the center of the pokéball, revealing the Pokémon inside. Prikpin is curled up into a ball at first, but slowly shows herself to Dean and Sentinel. She looked a bit scared, unsure of what to think of the situation. She nervously looked around, probably looking for her friend before sitting down. Sentinel had put her through the ringer and it showed. Dean Cautiously offered her the water. "it's okay, drink it. It will make you feel a lot better. Now that you're part of the team, I have to think of a name for you. What about..... Hemlocke. Yeah, that sounds pretty sweet." The prikpin is too busy gulping down the water to give any sort of reply to Dean's nickname, but Sentinel looked happy. When Prikpin was done, Dean recalled both of his Pokémon into their balls for now. He then makes his way over to haruka and Erica. "Thanks for the help you guys. I don't know what it is, but I'm having a real hard time with this whole 'Starting from scratch' thing. I agree that it would be best to set up camp soon, we're losing daylight and it would be best to keep moving at least till the ground dries up a bit." He intentionally doesn't mention the meddling from Haruka. One things for sure though. He'll sleep with one eye open as long as that witch was around. Before moving on, Dean looks for the first pokéball he threw and picks it back up to see if it's still salvageable. Dean uses an enriched water on Sentinel Dean uses a Pecha berry on Sentinel Dean uses an enriched water on Hemlocke Hemlocke will get the egg move Counter to her enheritance list.

After recollecting his pokéball, Dean opens his backpack to get the guide book while scanning around to get his bearings. Something catches his attention not very far, though, and he closes the backpack again. Unless he was wrong, those trees in the distance were white oaks, and to have grown that big the ground should be quite firm. They were no more than 200 yards away, so that's the direction he leads the group towards. Kasai seems to keep a little distance away from Haruka as they walk, throwing side glances her way from time to time. Other than that, the journey is quick and uneventful, the ground becoming drier and more solid as they advance. Soon the trainers find themselves next to the large trees that form a small clearing. A perfect spot for camping. Except for the body. A small pokémon lays right in the middle of the clearing, and by its rigidity and deadpan eyes, it's not just unconscious. It doesn't seem hurt, though. Right next to it is an open pokéball that appears to be broken, small bits of it hanging from the outer layer. Medicine Education DC 10Strangely, the tongue hanging from the open mouth is moist and pink, which seems odd given the necessary time for this level of rigor mortis. Perception DC 12There's small movement on the trees above, a little too subtle to be natural. EricaThe pokéball is definitely broken, but it seems quite intact and you're pretty sure you can easily repair it.

Erica walks alongside the group, thinking about taking out her bug to name it, but decides to wait. That'll be later. Once they stop, she peeks around Dean and Haruka to see the sight of a dead pokemon. Well that's... morbid. She looks at it for a minute, before noting the broken pokeball.
"Maybe somebody thought it was alive still and threw it?"
Well, this does permit a chance for Pluc to get some work in, she was healed up and is still a little worn out, but this is a good time. She re-releases Pluc and leans down.
"Consider this lesson two. That broken pokeball, nab it for me ok? Don't touch the pokemon, you don't know where it's been."
Pluc hops close, and using her saliva string, tries to snag it and bring it back.

Pluc effortlessly hits the pokéball with its stick shot. After practicing on live targets, this was nothing. What she wasn't expecting, and neither were the others in the group, was what happens next. As soon as the dribbino starts retracting the pokéball closer, the "dead" pokémon leaps towards the same direction, and a number of similar pokémon drop from the treetops onto the trainers' heads. It lasts only a second, before they all leap to the floor and start running away in the same direction you came from. It seems, however, some of them are carrying some things. Things you recognize... ActionsI'm afraid you just got mugged by some unknown pokémon. Each of you must roll 1d6 to see what they stole from you: - An occupied pokéball! (Dean's Prikpin, Erica's Muddlebee or Haruka's Wata)
- An empty pokéball.
- Your pokedex.
- A class item (Dean's Guidebook, Erica's tech scrap (200) or Haruka's writing utensils)
- A Potion
- Nothing
They are running away but still quite close, so you can choose to attack them, run after them or simply let it all go. Just so you know, if one of you has a pokedex stolen, they have a tracking system the others can use to find it. EricaYou got a broken pokéball

As Pluc begins to work her magic, Erica is surprised the hell out of by something jumping on her and taking off. When she looks up, the 'dead' pokemon is gone, along with other ones. Pluc comes back with the broken one, out of surprise, but as she goes to put it away...
Her newest capture is gone.
"Hey wait what the-!"
THATS MY THING YOU JERKS!
She recalls Pluc and readies her little nuke Gapic (In the Flash case) and begins chase.

When Dean sees the 'dead' Pokémon lying on the floor, an immediate feeling of alarm creeps over him. He has no clue what it might be exactly, but something feels off about the whole situation. Going for his belt he releases his latest capture. The Prikpin tries to hide behind his legs, still a little skittish about being caught by a trainer. Before being able to say anything, Erica already had Pluc fly over and grab the broken ball with his sticky saliva. The next couple of seconds go by in a blur, with multiple Pokémon dropping down from the trees and grasping hands everywhere. He knew it, the Pokémon was playing possum and now they were running away with their stuff. Dean takes off after the thieving lot and beckons his Pokémon and the others to follow him. "We can't let them get away, they have our stuff! Whow knows what else they might have stolen from other travelers. After them prikpin, try to hit one with your poison sting"
Running after the group of thieves, prikpin sends a volley of thing needles after them. Dean runs after the pokemon Prikpin also moves with dean and uses a standard action to fire off a poison sting Sentinel moves as well after the pokemon and fires off a megadrain

Finished with their previous encounter, Haruka dusted herself off and attempted to clear the mud off of her shoes... without much success. She sighed and submitted to the inevitability of mud getting everywhere. Maybe Kasai's bath would have to wait until they got themselves out of this awful mud pit. She followed Dean's lead as they headed toward a stand of trees which seemed to have made the ground a bit more solid. She noticed Kasai was keeping a bit of distance from her, was he really taking the threat of a bath that seriously? Well... he was a fire type, she guessed. That might have something to do with it... Trying to bathe the family pet, a Vulpix, was always awful whenever her family attempted it. It took forever to get all the scorch marks out of the tile.
Though her musings were interrupted by the sight of something... unsightly. There was a dead... thing, lying in the middle of the stand of trees. Haruka immediately went on edge, glancing around warily. Dead things... were never a good sign. This was definitely an ill omen and whatever did it might still be around. Kasai made to go over to it, but Haruka put out a hand to stop him. She didn't want him getting cursed or anything by it. She took a step back from the unmoving form of the small pokemon, frowning. "Let's... leave it alone and leave this place. It is clearly ill omened and I don't want to camp here. I think we should- aah!" She was interrupted by a quick series of events, as Erica used her awful gross bird to grab the broken pokeball next to the dead thing, it suddenly leaped up causing Haruka to let out a high pitched shriek, "An Onryō! Begone foul demon!" She brought up the warding charm she had made earlier, but it didn't seem to have any affect as more dropped from the trees above onto her. They scrambled all over her, causing her to shriek even more, batting at them to make them get off of her. And then... as suddenly as they came, they weren't on her anymore. Haruka adjusted her askew glasses to return the world into focus and wondered what just happened. Though Erica and Dean's cries alerted her to the situation, as one of the creatures ran away with a familiar looking device.
"Wha- Hey! That thing's probably really expensive even if I don't know how to use it! Get back here! I'll make you pay for your misdeeds!" she yelled as she gave chase without needing any encouragement from Dean. "Kasai, after them!" she ordered the Crocoal, causing him to charge off after the thieving jerks. He was a predator after all, and these things seemed more centered around surprise than running, he should be able to catch up with them...

Dean notices the trap and releases Hemlocke right before Pluc springs it. The gang of pokémon attacks and makes a run for it, and the group immediately follows. Erica prepares her flash-cased ball, Haruka and Kasai give chase, but it's Dean who moves first since he was ready for it. A quick order and Hemlocke shoots some quills at the fleeing crowd. She hits one of the possum pokémon in the back, one who wasn't carrying anything, and two things immediately happen. The one that was hit falls to the ground completely immobile, apparently dead; and the remaining scramble and scatter aorund, running in different directions. ActionsYou need to roll Perception DC 7 to identify the one who has your stuff, and an Athletics or Survival DC 5 to keep the chase if you want. With a Pokémon Education DC 6, you can reason that this kind of social behaviour indicates they'd have a group hideout, so they'll likely regroup somewhere. If you use the pokédex to scan one of them, this is the page.

Haruka chased after the pokemon, letting out a cheer of victory as Dean's Prikpin manages to hit one of them. Though... it was short lived as the group of pokemon immediately scattered, running in all different directions. In the dim light of the evening, Haruka quickly lost track of the one that had grabbed her pokedex. Her chase slowed down to a walk... then a full stop as her stomach began to sink. This... she couldn't have lost her expensive technological device on day one of being a trainer! She was definitely going to get kicked out of the program... Though... her lamenting was interrupted by Kasai letting out a series of yips as he charged past her, seeming to focus on one of the pokemon in particular. Did he manage to track which one took her pokedex...? Well, there was no time to question it, the thing was getting away!
Fueled with indignant anger and renewed hope, Haruka charged after the one that Kasai had singled out. She wasn't particularly athletic, but her legs were also many times longer than the rodent, so she was able to keep up... That and she really wanted to beat it up for stealing her things. "If you can get close, use Coal Scatter in front of it! That should mess up its running!" she called out to Kasai as she ran after him.

Dean sees Prikpin hit the target spot on, and the Pokémon goes limp in the process. With their earlier experience with the Pokémon, Dean is not falling for this again. "Don't sweat it Hemlocke, he's fine. We need to keep chasing the others".
With the Pokémon scattering in all directions, Dean has a hard time figuring which one had claimed one of his empty pokéballs. Thinking the group of thieves might meat up again in some sort of hide-out, he decides to just chase after one of them, forgoing any attacks.
Losing a pokéball in the process wasn't that big of a deal to him, he'd lose plenty more along the way. He wasn't sure though what the creatures had nabbed from the others though. He already had a lot to thank these girls for and this was his chance to pay them back a bit. Even though Dean was pretty sure he was not going to try and capture one of the Pokémon, he'd like to learn a bit about them. While giving chase, he whips out his dex and tries to scan them, hoping to gather some more info on the 'possum' Pokémon. Who knows it might even provide some good information for the confrontation that was sure to follow
"Hold your attacks for now girl, I want them to lead us to their hideout."

Erica tries her best to keep up but she quickly loses sight of the one who stole her newest capture. She slows, heaving from the chase she's not used to, and visibly upset. She leans against the tree, giving it an angry whap with her fist as she gets her breath back. "Shit!"And in the confusion, she's lost both Dean and Haruka as well, chasing after their own respective targets. Her balled fist hits the tree a few more times in rage. She's used to at least some light, even artificial, in the cities. And this dimming forest is completely new to her. She even rarely went out at night, as working in the day kept her safer. ...But that's not an option here. What the heck was she going to do? She lost her two allies in different directions, and one of her newest captures was taken hostage. Just as she was thinking she was getting on with this trainer thing. I mean she wasn't keen on using the bug but hey maybe she could have used it down the line. And either way, it was a living creature! And she let it get nabbed. Hell, it could have been Pluc's ball she lost, which maybe then she would have run away, or Gapic's; meaning she would have lost a powerhouse literally gifted to her. She's about to just sit down and throw a pity party when she looks over and sees the one that Dean's pokemon got. ...If they can take a hostage... So. Can. I.She throws out both her remaining pokemon, Gapic and Pluc, next to her. "Cover me."She doesn't really care that they probably don't understand what that phrase means, but she knows they are at least somewhat invested in the girl who caught them. She approaches the one obviously playing dead this time, and drops a Lock Case'd ball on it. Lock Case Pokeball! AC 6 Status (Using Instintive aptitude, spending an ap for +2) LlRhf0lD1d20+2 1d100-13

Dean Dean starts following one of the faintrick, keeping his distance as the pokémon runs without any apparent purpose. Given the path it's taken, it seems it knows it's still being followed and it's trying to lose you. ActionsI need you to roll Stealth for Dean and Hemlocke if you plan on following it discreetly, or Survival if you'll just leave it gain a distance and follow the tracks. The first is probably gonna be faster if you succeed. Erica Even though Erica thinks they might now completely understand it, Gapic and Pluc stand a little straighter at her command. The form a semicircle around the "dead" faintrick, and Erica lets her cased ball fall into the pokémon's body with no difficulty. The faintrick is sucked into the device and, after a few seconds of shaking, the pokéball pings another successful capture. She collects the pokéball with her hostage, but looking up it's clear she can no longer see either of her two companions. The clearing where it all started, the one supposed to be their camping place, is right behind her, at least. EricaYou captured a Faintrick! Level: 5 Gender: Female Ability: Pickup Nature: Docile Egg Move: Scary Face You can distribute its stats as you wish. You can also pick one Egg Move to add to its Inheritance List, to be learned at a level corresponding to the September Playtest. Perception 7You can see in the distance the faint light of a screen. It's moving fastly in a different direction, but you think you can reach it. Haruka Haruka and Kasai rush after the faintrick, guided by the fire pokémon senses. After a few yards, the crocoal finally gets in range to attack, releasing a blast of fire at the fleeing possum. Just as before, as soon as the attack makes contact the faintrick falls to the ground, completely immobile. The device it was carrying falls at its side, Haruka's pokedéx apparently intact. However, in the fading light of the sun, Haruka cannot see either of her two companions now. Perception 7You can see in the distance the faint light of a screen. It's moving fastly in a different direction, but you think you can reach it.

As the ball locks in place, Erica smirks. She's not broken a single ball so far. Those lock cases really work. She leans down and picks it up, but keeps the lock case on for now. She'll need it to stress a point to this thing. She motions for Pluc and Gapic to be ready, and drops the ball back open, releasing her newest capture. Erica waits a moment for it to realize what's happening before leaning down to meet at it's level. She looks at her dex to note the capture's name and information.
"Ok let's put this in as simple a way as I can tell it. You and me got an issue."
She points to the now empty spot on her pokeball-belt.
"One of your buddies took something that was mine, and another pokemon was in it. I want it back. You are going to take me where your buddies go. If you do that, I'll letcha go. If not..."
She holds the Faintrick's ball close to her, but out enough so it can see it. With the lock case on, she presses a button and it locks tight, and Erica shows how it can't be opened now.
"...well then you'll be my little minion, and you'll only get to be out when I say so. Understand?"

Haruka breathed hard as she chased after the white and grey creature. She... wasn't used to running this much and she could feel herself flagging, but it was... almost in reach! Or rather, Kasai was almost in reach. Just a little bit... now! She made a gesture and Kasai responded by spewing flames at the creature, causing it to collapse immediately. Haruka's running slowed to a stop next to the creature as she eyed it suspiciously. There was no way one attack knocked it out so easily, especially since it didn't seem like it was a Grass or Bug type or anything else of that nature. She nudged the creature with a foot, still glaring down at it between pants before shrugging. Whatever, if it was going to play dead, then let it be. Kasai toasting its buns was enough of an incentive to make it not do that again. As Kasai approached to sniff at the unmoving creature, Haruka bent down and picked up her pokedex. Yes! Now she wouldn't get kicked out of the program for losing it! Haruka did a little hop in celebration before stuffing the device back in her pack. She patted Kasai briefly, not particularly discouraging his investigation of the creature. It needed to be freaked out a bit anyway and she was fairly sure he wouldn't eat it or anything.
Then Haruka looked around the area and found... no one. Uh... oops? She looked around more carefully and found that neither of her traveling companions were anywhere in sight. That... was bad. Day 1 and she'd already gotten lost? She didn't have a great sense of direction, but this was a record even for her. "Dean? Erica? Hellooo?" she called out as she looked every which way, but... with no response... She supposed they probably did the same thing as her, chase after the creature that had taken things from them which... probably lead them all in different directions, some distance from each other. Haruka's stomach sank as she let out a sigh. What were you supposed to do after you got lost somewhere? It was... stay put, right?
Feeling a little unsatisfied, Haruka prepared to take out the tent from her pack but... something caught her eye, something bright. It looked like... some sort of lit screen? Was that Dean or Erica? That could be another pokedex... She thought about it for a few moments, wondering if she could go after it or not before she shouldered her pack. It was better than sitting around, if it wasn't either of them, it was another stolen device that she could take back from the creatures. She clapped briefly to get Kasai's attention before gesturing for him to follow her. "Come on, we have another thing we need to go after!" she said before heading off after the light moving through the gloom of the evening.

After a short while of following the pokémon closesly, Dean starts to realise that it is leading him in circles, trying to lose them in the process. A different approach was needed in order to be succesfull. Recalling Prikpin, Dean slows his pace enough to let the thief get a little more distance. He figures if he keeps quiet enough Fainttrick might think that it lost him. While still following from a distance, Dean tries his best to dampen his movement.
In the meantime he thinks of the others, hoping they were still together somewhere. He reckoned he'd be able to track them later through the pokédex. At least, if it had the same functions his old model did. Pushing the thought aside for a moment he keeps his eyes peeled on the pokémon in front of him. His heart was racing with excitement. Things like this made him feel alive. The whole situation reminded him of a pretty similar experience he had during his first journey, where a bunch of zigzagoon were the culprits.

Dean Dean runs lightly, trying not to alert the escaping faintrick. It really only needs a minute, before the pokémon zigzagging pattern subtly changes into a full sprint towards west. Given the sudden speed, it's almost safe to assume it's finally going home, and Dean can see the direction points towards a great oak with an enormous crown about 300 yards from him. Just as he starts moving towards that direction, he almost bumps into Haruka, who seems to have been wandering alone in the sunset little light. Erica The faintrick appears in the usual burst of light, and immediately curls up and eyes around suspiciously. She pays attention to Erica's words and seems to shrink back at every accusation, a little bit of hurt in her eyes. She seems confused about the lock case threat, but the fear is there, likely more about the tone than the words themselves. She starts walking, cautiously looking back at first, until she seems to get more confident that Erica is following and pick up her pace. The direction is pretty straight, towards a large oak at the distance, and after a few minutes, Erica can see the shape of her two companions very close. Haruka Haruka notices the screen light and rushes towards it, hoping it's one of her companions. It only lasts a second, but she keeps the same direction in the dim light, guided by sounds only. A few minutes later on the chase, she sees the red light of a pokéball, but the footsteps' noise diminishes considerably. Haruka feels a bit lost for a minute before Dean rushes into her from her left, apparently running somewhere.

Erica follows the thing silently, not really caring what it thibks, considering its buddies stole shit from them. She notes the giant oak and the two figures. She can't quite make it out so decides to whisper to her new capture.
"Hold on, stop."
Erica steps up to it, and enters stealth mode and waits to see what the figures do.
