Maeve accepts the shards, knowing full well their worth. "I'll be sure to put them to good use, maybe in a bowtie; Fionn has been talking about one lately."

"That sounds nice. Just don't make it to appetizing; I'm sure Fluffy would like a rematch!" Jane snorts. Then she takes a quick peek at her dex and looks around. "Looks like they're running late. I'm sure they'll catch up though if they want! Let's go and find that ranch."

"So Lo - what sort of ranch were you thinking of?"

Lowell shrugged.
"Flatlands place, good for berry farming and setting up an apiculture. Maybe some hills, definitely some forest. If all goes well, I'll slap a gym there and maybe try to also set up a distillery for mead and berry-based liqueurs"
He shrugged.
"My family has a honey farm over in Johto, so I guess I'd just be continuing the family tradition. Honestly I just kind of want a place for my pokemon and for getting berries. Might as well go for it if I do that, though I don't have even near the funds for my grandiose plan at the moment"

"That doesn't sound too odd. Let's see if there's someone that has a ranch full of flowers and then we can see if a plot nearby is free. Bees need flowers right?!" Jane thinks for a moment. "Hmm. You know, maybe there's something nice around Lavender? There's plenty of hills there. And trees!"

"Right then!" Jane searches for the closest realtor and drags the gathering towards it. With a bit of luck they could give a tour of their properties. Or probably just pictures and an address - but it would be a start. "Let's see what we can find!"

Thankfully for Jane, finding a realtor isn't difficult in Saffron City. They are more than happy to show off possible locations for Trainer Ranches.

"So! Let's see what we have. We're looking for somewhere with a bit of forest and hills, somewhere where berries might like to grow. I'm thinking around Lavender maybe? Do you have anything in that area?" Jane inquires as she looks around at the displayed listings.

The realtor says that there is not a lot of usable land near Lavender, and what they do have is already owned by another. There is potential in the area closer to Fuschia, which has a similar environment to Lavender Town. They show the location in question, which is situated in the wilderness between Fuschia City and Vermillion City.

Lowell took a long glance before releasing Clair and motioning to the rest of the group.
"This looks rather promising. I'd like to take a walk around it, though. Look for landmarks, potentially a water source if we're lucky"

The agent happily shows Lowell around the grounds, or lets him walk them himself if he'd prefer. There is a small house (more like a shack) that the agent claims used to be held by an elderly Pokemon Ranger, but when he passed away recently, the government-held land became available after the Ranger Corps chose not to keep it.
The house serves as a landmark in and of itself, but beyond that the location is relatively unremarkable. There is a small pond on the grounds, just behind the shack. It's not more than a few meters deep, though, and kinda muddy. There is also a well for drinking water. The ranger who used to live here lived almost entirely off the land, so the grounds are pretty bare-bones.

"Sure looks cosy. I hope it has wi-fi!" Jane didn't actually believe - but hope was free. She resisted the urge to poke the house just to see if it would fall over or not. That pleasure would be Lowells! (After he paid for it...) "So what do you all think?"

"I'm not too sure, actually. Was hoping for a little more forested area or just general wilderness, and a strem might have also helped. But there's not a lot of things bad with essentially a blank slate" Lowell said.

The agent mentions that this area used to be part of the Lavender Swamp a long time ago, back before the onset of urbanization and the shrinking of places like the Swamp as a result. If a forest is what Lowell is looking for, they can look at other properties that are more like what he's seeking, but few of them will be in the Lavender Town area.

"Oh it was just me thinking Lavender. Let's see what's available with proper trees!"

"Going down towards Fuchsia may not be bad idea, yeah. This does look like prime bug estate which is nice for my Pokemon and all, but it's also certainly not the best biome to set up a honey farm and that'd be part of the end goal" Lowell said with a bit of a shrug.
"Gotta spread the family business and all that"

"Mm? Family business? I just like to spread my honey on toast!" Jane chuckled at herself and snorted. But it was kinda cool that his family made honey. *Ahem* That they kept bees that made honey (she assumed!)
"On the other hand, all that water might come in handy for irrigation. You'd just need some terraces. Oh! Maybe make a series of artificial islands? That'd be cool!"

Lowell shook his head slightly.
"Too much water can be a bad thing too, you know. And for honey farms you need flowers and flowering trees, not really as many high-water plants like rice. Plus this biome does kind of foster a lot of Combee's natural predators. Nah, I think it'd better to take a look somewhere a little less swampy"

The realtor reveals a few options for ranch/honey farm land in the north of Kanto, near Cerulean. It's far less swampy, and could possibly be what Lowell is looking for.

Seeing as attention was being shifted North, Maeve began remembering what she'd seen on her journey so far, seeing as the North was one of the few areas of Kanto she'd actually seen so far. "If your hopes are environments more comfortable for bug-types, wouldn't the area between Viridian and Pewter be a good choice? I nearly caught a Weedle around there, actually." Maeve's thoughts began to wander once again. I wonder how that little one is doing, now that I think about it...
