Trying to push a cart through a cave? Terrible idea, unless the cave floor was actually made of even asphalt - but, as Aidan would cheerful point out later to anyone asking, what was better than pushing tiny wheels through soft sand and tiny, annoying rocks for muscle training?
Still, that meant the male had lost a bit of ground on the excited girls - and it didn't help that he took his sweet time checking out the cave walls and floors for potentially edible mushrooms.
For a definition of 'potentially edible' that basically was 'apply enough heat and anything turns edible'

Riley is able to trade her freshly-caught Swalot for a Surskit. Level is the same as traded Pokemon. Surskit is Female, Quiet, with Danger Syrup and Swift Swim.

YES! Riley shouts, clutching the pokeball with her newly acquired surskit and totally geeking out about it. What a cool pokemon!! The dude who agreed to the trade just gives her a frightened grin and shuffles away. Maaybe she went overboard with the intimidation, but whatever! Riley's too excited to care. And, as soon as she calms herself, she decides to take a stroll down the street to the store. Time to sell a few of those items that Pilgrim found for me. Riley isn't exactly sure how Pilgrim does it, but he loves going out and finding presents for her while they travel. But she can't keep carrying everything in her bag (it's starting to get cluttered), and besides, If I'm gonna buy out my ranch, I'm gonna need some cash...so might as well sell the junk, keep the treasure!
After a bit of haggling with the clerk, Riley walks away with a slightly heavier wallet and heads right out of Saffron toward Celadon. She releases Surskit into the grass to run around for a bit while she walks. When Surskit returns, Riley discovers that the water-glider is holding some honey! Wow, where'd you get that? she says, collecting the golden syrup into a jar.
Riley looks up and sees buildings in the distance. Almost there! Jogging toward Celadon, Riley looks for somebody to battle before the gym challenge.

What a battle! Riley breathes deeply, attempting to combat the adrenaline. I beat an ace trainer! she giggles. But first things first. Riley releases the battered pumpkaboo and gingerly revives him, tending to his wounds for the next few minutes. Then, she does the same for octillery, who requires much less medical attention. During the process, Riley carefully dilutes her materials for more uses in the future. This is becoming quite the pharmacy, she thinks as she places everything back into her backpack.
About an hour later, Riley rises from the grass to finish her walk to Celadon. By this time, the sun is low in the western sky. Entering the city, Riley's eyes take in the large buildings and the pretty, cobbled streets. She walks warily into the bustling town, gazing into shop windows and observing the architecture. Then, she remembers something! Withdrawing her pokedex, Riley intently taps the screen for a few seconds, and then it dings triumphantly. The glowing screen reads: Thank you for purchasing the rights to your Pokémon Ranch. Proof of purchase will be sent to your mailbox.
ALRIGHT! Riley cheers, jumping up to punch the air. Passers-by look at her with concern and shuffle quickly away. Suddenly, her face becomes very solemn. Oh. I'm broke. Shrugging, she continues walking to the Celadon gym. She planned to challenge the gym before the day's end, and now here she is- standing at the steps leading up to the front entrance. Taking a moment to center herself, Riley nods decidedly, walks up the front steps, and throws open the doors.

Throwing open the doors reveals... a darkened room. There is just enough light from candles scattered about to see by without running into anything. You hear very faint giggling in the background. There is some varied furniture scattered about, but beyond that the room seems empty; though you can't see all the way in the back from the door.

Happy after her win Jane looks around to see if any of her companions are still there. And ... Hey now wasn't there something with an police officer? she faintly recalls seeing one in the backdrop of her fight - and piecing it together she realize the officer took Lavender! Oh no! What did she do?! Her urge to panic was suddenly rising quickly. She had just given the nice (but weird) girl a Gem - what if she was now an accessory? "I better get you healed up quickly and find out what's going on!" Jane told the Mawile in her arms with a worried tone.
At least Aidan was still around. Though he seemed to be deep in concentration (and that honey-apple smelled really nice she noted!) she still bothered him real quick by mentioning that she was heading to the pokécenter to heal her pokémon and look for Lavender. "Sorry I can't wait for you! she calls after him as she leaves the tunnel. And sorry I couldn't sneak that apple away from that Paras. *sigh*

This seems more like a ghost-themed gym...creepy... Hello? I'm here to challenge the gym! Riley calls, stepping cautiously forward and squinting to make out shapes in the darkness. It's times like these that make me wish I bought a flashlight. HELLOOO. The giggling Riley hears is certainly unsettling...

The giggling only continues, though you detect the faint scent of flowers, or perhaps scented candles in the air. You then hear a voice echo out from the darkness. Voice #1: "Aww, the cute lil' nerd girl looks so confused! It's adorable."
Voice #2: "Oooh, what do you think we should do about that?"
Voice #1: "Not sure yet. I'll think of something."
Voice #2: *giggles* "This might be the most fun we've had this week." |

Riley stands still as she listens to the voices. At least they sound human (snobby and mocking, but human). Her eyes narrow a bit- whatever game they're playing, she doesn't like it. Still, Riley isn't exactly sure what's going on, so she clears her throat, and tries again. I'm...here to challenge the gym leader. She starts walking forward through the candlelit room. If no one's going to escort her further into the gym, she'll let herself in.
She hears her pokedex ping her with an incoming message, but she ignores it for now.

As Riley takes a few cautious steps forward, the door she entered suddenly shuts on its own. Before she has time to process this, the floor disappears beneath her feet, sending her sliding down a hidden passage and causing her to pass out.
An unknown amount of time later (in truth only about 5-10 minutes), Riley wakes up in a strange, windowless and doorless room, wearing nothing but her undies and with none of her possessions on hand.

Riley lets loose a reflexive scream as she falls into the pit... ...and then she wakes up, groggy. It takes Riley several seconds to gather her wits ( ugh my head feels weird). Blinking, she sits up on the floor and realizes that she has no clothes. After a moment of disbelief, she flushes deeply, crossing all of her appendages in a desperate attempt to hide her nakedness. She realizes that she's alone in a windowless, doorless room, but that doesn't mean they aren't watching her with cameras or something. Sickos. As embarrassment gives way to anger, Riley cautiously pushes herself up off of the floor, studying her surroundings. Where was her bag!? Her pokemon?  They took everything! Riley's outburst neither provokes a reaction nor solves anything. However, there does appear to be a door hidden behind a section of wall. You can just barely make out the odd-looking wall segment. Opening it reveals a long hallway with what looks like a door at the far end.

Riley looks down the hall, a shiver of excitement creeping up her spine (or maybe it's just a draft). On the surface, she seems laser-focused on making an escape, ready for any surprises. But deep beneath the fear is a giddy fascination at the drama of being held captive. Riley feels like she's stepped into a spy movie.
With no apparent alternatives, Riley cautiously traverses the hallway to the door at the other side. If it opens, she will open the door just enough to sneakily peer through.

Strangely enough, trying to approach the door results in it not getting any closer. Turning around to look back where you came reveals that you have not moved at all.

Welp. This is some next-level mindfuckery. Riley knows when she's awake, so she doesn't think that she's dreaming. But this has to be some sort of illusion or something.
She exhales, frustrated, and walks back into the center of the strange room. She sits on the floor cross-legged and tries to relax, in an attempt at meditation. She has no idea what she's doing, but from ninja movies she's seen, this is her best guess at a solution.

After a few minutes' meditation, Riley confidently strides forward towards the other end of the hall...only to realize she still hasn't gone anywhere! Either she didn't break the illusion by disbelieving it, or it's not an illusion at all.

Well, Riley is stumped. She tried to walk away from the voices, and they opened up a trapdoor on her. She tries to escape down a hallway, and nothing happens...maybe it's a treadmill floor? Even if it were, what good would it do just to know?
Riley stifles a quick rush of panicked thoughts about whether the gym has been taken over by criminals, whether she is ever actually getting out of here, whether she'll starve or die of thirst. Those thoughts aren't constructive right now. But logically, even if they were true, they'd still support the plan that she has in mind, which is: sleep. Trying to escape over and over again only to fail (which seems like the point here, do break down her will) is what, the definition of insanity? At the very least, it burns energy, which will just make Riley hungry quicker. So, she lays down on the cold floor and tries to get comfortable, letting her whole body relax. After a little while, she manages to doze off.
