Lavender and Mr Kitty? Jane thought to herself while trying to keep Teus contained with only one hand. Someone got a descriptive naming scheme! And thinking back to how she usually had to spend hours digging trough old references to find good names that someone really did look quite clever. Why didn't I think of that earlier! She let out a small sigh and wrapped a bit of her hair around the fingers of her free hand and stared at her soon-to-be fried apple, consider her life choices.
This wasn't really the place for deep thought though, so she soon returned to the present. With a bit of help from Teus of course whom had now noticed there was a cat pokémon around and was thus doing his best to once again wiggle free. Cat pokémon where, of course, only there so you could poke/play with/chase them. Oh no you don't! Reaffirming a secure two hand hug Jane steps a bit to the side to let Riley pay. "So - everyone's here for the gym league? The rest of you also heading towards Celadon?" she asked with a small nod at Riley.

Mr. Kitty glares heartily at Teus. Fox like creature things were creatures to glare at intensely like that. Once sufficient glaring had been performed, small cat Pokémon alights to a nearby handrail and perches. Watching. Waiting. Doing the cat thing.
But Salena was having fun! "Celadon huh? Is that where the next Gym is? That means I'm going too! No doubt!" She smiles thoughtfully. Huh. Same place Riley was going. Oh! That must be other reason why. How nice of that!
She feels a small paw on her shoulder. Mr. Kitty once more, nodding his tiny head in a knowing manner. Salena jumps excitedly. "Wait! If you are going to Celadon, would you like to travel together? We can have ourselves a a little girl party!"

"Yeah." Jane answered though her information could be a bit out of date. With a small frown she continued (something seemed to make Teus even more wiggly then usual. What could it be?!). "I think so at least..."
Little girl party? Jane mulled over it in her head - she wasn't sure exactly what that would be. Or how little they'd actually had to be. But, given how violent matches could sometimes turn, travel companions did sound nice. Oh well, since she wasn't sure she just fuzzed a bit extra with her Flareon and gave the others time to voice their opinions.

Girl party? What are we, five? Riley looks at Lavender and Jane incredulously. Lavender is definitely intensely quirky, which could be troublesome, and Jane- no idea! We literally just met. I just met both of them, really. But then Riley considers that the road only gets harder and the pokemon only get stronger, so it's probably better not to go it alone. Not that Riley isn't confident in her abilities, of course. It's just safer in groups, especially for teenage girls. She concedes. "Um, alright. At least until Celadon, I think it's probably a good idea to travel together. I mean, we're all going that way, anyway." She glances down, a bit embarrassed. She notes that the smell of the fried apples is getting stronger, and her mouth waters. "I'm ready to leave as soon as possible, actually."

Aidan finished cooking the first batch - for the more observant in the group, without ever bothering with stuff like 'mitts' or 'holders', then started handing out paper cones filled with freshly-fried apple slices "And here you go!" He listened for a few moments to the chatting girls "Celadon? I'm headed there too." a brief pause and an embarrassed cough "Well, at least, after I'm done with this market." Not like he barely had the funds left to afford a bath or something. Nope. Not at all. And writing home for help was absolutely out of the question: even if he could get over his pride enough to do it, he could already imagine the 'Son, you're a man now. You're on your own' he'd get for an answer.
"Want company? I mean, I'm not a little - or a girl. But.. discount food?"
There's really no need to - we can count that in the budget for starting money. Unless you -really- want to overpay for candy bars you can get at-cost in a moment? xD

*More* cheap/free food? Jane suddenly looked quite happy. Might be the cone of delicious smelling apples she was just handed. A deep breath to inhale the flavours and then a quick bite. Bliss. I bet they would be really good even if I had eaten breakfast! That was probably a good enough reason as any - "Yeah sure!" she beamed at Aidan.

"But... You're not a girl! And I didn't mean to say that you have to be small. There isn't a lot of us and... Oh nevermind!" Salena says with a pout. Then she thought on a bit longer. "Well. I guess those apples do smell just beautiful and delicious. If you cook that well, you must have a strong feminine side hiding beneath all of those muscles!"
A small squeal escapes her lips. "As long as you're able to keep making us sweet, beautiful snacks there is no way I can say no!"

"Now that that is decided-" Jane announced and clapped her hands together. Her portion of fried apples was long gone, but Teus finally managed to escape. He fled about half an foot up to his own cone of snacks and happily started noming. Content that he wouldn't cause any trouble (before he finished at least!) Jane turned to her new companions and suggested. "-anyone up for a shorter trip first? I'm itching for a walk and my pokémons always need a bit more training. There's a cavern nearby full of wild Digletts!"
I've got plenty of good match-ups versus ground. she thought to herself. And I bet I could find plenty of shards! It really was a good spot for a bit of practice. And, trough the ancient ritual of pokébattle, get to know her companions a bit (without the probably headache of actually fighting them).

Riley nibbles on the apples and then looks at Jane. "Mm, no thanks. That's in the opposite direction. I'm fine heading to Celadon alone if you guys want to check out the cave and then catch up."

"Hey!" Aidan pointed the cooking pan at Lavender, still sizzling with boiling oil, still casually wielding it in a bare hand like it totally wasn't an overheated piece of metal. "I'll let you know that cooking is pretty manly! Didn't you ever had to climb a volcano to gather ingredients - or to wrestle a Torterra for fruit!?" To be fair very few normal people ever did that, but nobody ever had the heart to tell him. It explained the 'No Torterra was harmed during the preparation of these apples' sign that was currently laying flat on the cart and not displayed, though. Probably just an oversight, right?
At Jane's proposal and Riley's counter he put the pan back where it belonged and gave it a bit more serious thought. "To be honest, I'm a bit short on ingredients and other stuff I'd probably need before challenging a new gym - as much fun as just headbutting my way through it would be: it's why I'm here selling breakfasts instead of already on the way. Caves have mushrooms and stuff, right?" As good as he was at turning ingredients into food, this confirmed Aidan had only a passing awareness of where normal people actually got those ingredients from.
Finally, he shrugged "I'm fine either way. If anyone decides to go to the cave I'm up for it, but the journey to Celadon should provide enough chances by itself." After all, the trip so far definitely did.

"Oh it's just a small de-tour!" Jane lets out a small shrug. With a smirk and a quick laugh she adds - "And besides - don't you want to see if our chef will wrestle a Shroomish or not?" - and winks at Aidan. Still smiling she continues. "But yeah - I'm sure we could meet up later again!"

In response to Aiden's response, Salena shoots out a cherubic tongue and largely ignores his protests. Logic proves ineffective against Salena!
"I really struggled at this last Gym, so I guess it could be cool to get in a bit of training before Celadon" Salena says with a thoughtless shrug, forgetting that she looked like a mess and another cave dive was not going to help the situation.
"You know what, count me in! Cave diving sounds fun!" She exclaims, as her dress softly weeps.

"All right then!" Jane nodded, looking happy to have some meat shields valued teammates with her down into the cavern. Pulling out her notebook and pencil she looked quizzically at their most hurried little-girl-party. Is that really going to be our thing? Eh ... could be worse! Reaching out to offer both to Riley she said. "Wanna swap phone numbers? So we can meet up again!"
Then, with that done, she collects Teus before he starts gnawing on the paper he was already licking the last motes of fried apple from. "Onwards to adventure?"

"Oh, good idea!" Riley says, jotting down her number for Jane. "Here's my contact info for everyone else, too..." after that's figured out, she gives a quick grin to the group and sticks her thumbs in the straps on her backpack. "Alright. Hope you guys enjoy spelunking a bit; I'll meet you further up! See you later!"
As she marches out of Vermillion City, pumpkaboo in tow, Riley can't help smiling. It was really nice meeting those guys. I'm sure we'll keep in touch! On the road to Saffron, she keeps her eyes peeled for any nearby trainers to battle.

"Smell ya later then!" Jane waved her new friend goodbye. She was surprised how heartfelt the (probably brief) goodbye felt. But then again, Riley *had* bought her food. And that was a really solid thing to do!
All right! She sat Teus down on the ground again and looked around. Then, assuming none of her other new friends objected, she set out with the party towards the Diglett Tunnel. It wasn't that far, just a pleasant little walk. As they drew closer she stopped briefly to pull out a pair of fancy sticks from her backpack. Teus wandered off to nom on some flowers while waiting. "My dowsing rod!" Jane explained. "Since there are probably magical shards in there somewhere."
And then, with her Flareon in tow, Jane headed inside the tunnel. First she'd warm up and look for some pokémon.

In the Diglett Tunnel those whom had chosen to follow her could observe her first wandering around and waving her sticks, occasionally digging up colourful shards from the dirt. She cheers a bit everytime she finds one and Teus, whom were providing light, seems to try and gnaw on them.
After a while she suddenly races off into the distance - she seems to have spotted something. A brief scuffle follows, where she sends out an Serperior, but she quickly comes back closer again. With a smile she notes that she managed to catch a Dugtrio. "And now -" she beams and winks "I'm going to see if there are any other trainers looking for a battle! Who knows - maybe even a double or triple one?"

"Not bad. But I think I can do better!" Salena quips unhappily. Truth be told, she was fantastically impressed by Jane's ability to find those lovely colored shards and envied her energy. But she wasn't going to allow herself to outshone, oh no! She was going to find something impressive too by golly, and she was going to catch it!
Time to find a Pokémon!

Mere moments later, Salena returns with a particularly pouting face. "I couldn't do better. I found a Paras and scared it off by being a bit too forceful. But at least Mr. Fuji got some exercise!"
The impish Gastly smiles and laughs, staring at his trainer's newfound companions. Yes. They were all going to have a ghoulishly good time together...

"Oh that's rough..." Jane nods understandingly. Truth to be told, if she had thought of using Statuses first a bit earlier, she'd probably have more then just seven pokémon... Anyhow! It seemed as if her new companion could use some encouragement. (Also, good excuse to not look too long at that way-too-happy Ghastly) "Oh hang on a second! "
She put her backpack down and pulled out one violet shard - she had seen Salena look at them curiously earlier - and started to whittle it down with a small carving knife. "Got to remove the imperfections and the spots where the magic is leaking ..." she mumbled softly, mostly to herself. Once that was done she had a smooth and and at the end slightly pointy violet lump she put away her knife and instead used a small blanket to polish it. Once it was sufficiently bright she retrieved her knife and carefully - very carefully - craved minuscule symbols into the Gem. "Just so the magic comes out properly! There! It is done!" She announces.
After putting everything except the Gem back into her backpack she stands back up and hand the gem to Salena. "It's a Ghost Gem! For good luck." she starts then shrugs. "But I'm not sure if it will help with being less forceful ... Anyway! Maybe it'll work out anyhow!"
But it seems as if her carving attracted more attention! A wild Rancher appears to challenge her, claiming that Gems and stuff were just "humbug"! Jane puffs up in annoyance and sends out her Mawile Sam to face the Ranchers Tauros. The tiny pokémon looks vastly outmatched in size but quickly shows cunning tactics by first luring the bovine close with a pleasant scent and then flinging some dirt into its eyes! The tiny pokémon looks delighted that it seems to work and also puffs herself up to appear more intimidating.

Salena's eyes gleamed in the dark, staring at the new baubles that has recently been born into the world. Even Mr. Fuji seemed impressed! "Woah, really? Is this... Thank you! That's really, really nice of you!"
"Gasss!" Cries ghost friend, swirling in a tight circle around Salena. The young witch just sort of *pops* the gem into the ghost. "I'm sure we won't have any problems! Mr. Fuji can be gentle sometimes too. He's a ghost with craft, not just force!"
However, their conversation was interrupted by the rudest of Ranchers. Magic? Humbug! Wait, just where did Jane learn about all of this magic? She pauses to watch the nearby battle going on. It was remarkable and beautiful how well Jane and her Pokémon were working together; using tools and tricks to overwhelm the foe! Hah! This country bumpkin didn't stand a chance! "You've got this Jane! Beat that meanie down!"
But, unfortunately for Salena, she wouldn't get to see the end of the match. A trainer, perhaps drawn by the sounds of battle, approaches!
