"Let me grab the supplies, the we'll set off" said Gwyddel before leaving
{This is the time to do anything else you may want to do in town} |
Gwyddel, Rebellious Hunter __________________________________ |
~The Search For Gwenhael~ Gwyddel soon returned with a significant amount of hemp rope wrapped around his shoulder. With that, the group made for the woods outside of town.
The forests outside of Al's were fairly dense and relatively dark due to the extense deciduous canopy above them. The sounds of many forest creatures were heard against the backdrop of the squires's boots over the underbush and overgrown paths. Every once in a while, the group would catch sight of some Caterpie among the tree branches.
Gwyddel seemed fairly alert, and it wasn't long until he motioned to stop at what looked like a small opening in the woods. This, it seemed, was where he had last seen some of the bandits.

Morgan comes to an abrupt stop. Aha! This perhaps where the vagabonds lie. No matter! He would settle this matter with a quick care, and attention to detail. Or at least, Fleur would. With a soft flourish of his beads and a soft muttering, Fleur quietly took to the field. This was what they had both trained for. He motions for her to come closer, then whispers a command into her ear; search for any interlopers, then return quietly. With a nod, she slips off silently into the underbrush. Within a moment, she was gone and not even Morgan himself could spot her. Still! He had a job to do. His eyes scanned the clearing. Just where they... Morgan's Perception to see any trace of the bandits! - A sad 8!
Fleur's Stealth to carry out her task without fear of being spotted! - 15! Fleur's Perception to spot the enemy... 20!

Maela is less trained in this particular area than Morgan - she's not the world's best tracker, sadly, and not being a sharpshooter she doesn't have Morgan's eagle eyes. Still, she does her best to help look for any trace of the bandits. Clòimhe is still resting after the injury she suffered against the nest of Ekans, but her faithful Arwain is bundled up in her arms, shining her light into shadows and peering around with her own unusual eyes. Sadly, Chinchou are better adapted to look for prey in deep, dark waters than merely the shade of the forest, but between them perhaps they can find something to serve as the start of a trail. Maela's Perception to look for traces of the bandits - 10 Arwain's Perception for ditto - 11

O. was busy getting better at looking at the finer details of the area around him. He wanted to be a forward scout, but he got so caught up in running, that he forgot to look around himself for any danger, or signs that a scout would need to look for. Thankfully Bryn was always nearby, and he had the advantage of seeing things that were at least on the ground. So sending out Bryn, and giving him a hand signal to head underground to see if he could sense any enemies nearby would do them a world of good. Bryn had a Stealth of 10 to hide beneath the ground and a Perception of 9 to see if he could sense anyone

The bandits weren't there at the time, as far as the group could tell. They sure had been, though. There were marks of a buried fire, and Fleur eventually tugged at Morgan's clothes before showing him some footsteps near the southwest edge of the clearing.
It seemed to complete the task, the squires would have to go deeper into the forests.

Morgan rewards Fluer's efforts with a kind scratch upon the ears and then turns to his companions post-haste. "They are ahead. If you have any preparations, now might be a good time!"
Saying this, he absently snacks on Maela's spicy snack. Oh lord, that was a mistake! His next attack might do a little more damage, but at what cost?! His eyes well up with beautiful tears. What is the cost?! Why didn't he grab the sweet snack?! Whyyyyyy.
Rolled a 5 on Survival to follow the path correctly.

Of course it couldn't have been nice and easy for them to have the bandits being so close to the village, they would have to find them first. At least Morgan, with the help of Fleur had found the tracks, and O. at least was decent at following those. "Although who knows how far ahead." O. says as he bends down to get a better look at the tracks and where exactly they lead. At the same time he takes his spear and taps the butt of it into the ground three times, using the simple code he was working with Bryn on, to tell him to come back up to the surface and follow him as they move forward. O got a 19 to Survival these tracks

Morgan is not versed in recognizing tracks, but O. is and notices that the footprints are at least a day old and point to a group of at least five men.
They're rather clear, and he'll have little to no trouble following them.

Maela betrayed her anxiety by the fact that she was more hovering than being useful. Tracking wasn't exactly her forte; right now she wished she'd studied up more on the subject. Though O. seemed to have the situation well in hand without her dubious assistance, in any case.
She recognized Morgan's warning that now was a good time to prepare, but she honestly wasn't sure what preparations she had to make. "I'd like a chance to try and convince them to surrender before we just charge in. I doubt it will have much impact on the leader, but perhaps one or two of them might see reason... or just be intimidated by having the attention of the Knights. They won't have had to deal with anybody with battle-bred Pokémon before now, after all."

"I wouldn't count on that to much, we aren't Knights yet, and their leader apparently had no problem subduing a wild pokemon. Also, I highly doubt this is all of them, but I count at least five tracks heading out, and I should be able to follow them easily." O says standing up from where he was kneeling down. He pops some of the Sour Candy Lana had made into his mouth, and threw a Salty Surprise into Bryn's waiting mouth. The candy did make his face scrunch up a little, Lana sure knew how to make the things surprisingly sour. After swallowing the treat, he says "Although, I hope we can get through this without a fight; I have a feeling we won't be so lucky."
I have decided on my 3 treats, Sour, Salty, and Sweet. 1 of each

"Gaghk- I'm sure we'll be fine but..." Morgan coughed a little, before hitting his chest. Maela's desire for peace was a beautiful thing, but in this case he had some misgivings. "We should keep in mind, they do have hostages. Before we can even think about negotiations, we must make sure that we can find some way to ensure their safety. Otherwise, I am sure such ugly people might try to use them as a bargaining chip."

Elys nodded in agreement with Morgan. "Yes. Our first obligation must be to the prisoners. Better to strike first and offer mercy from a position of strength, than to try to parlay as equals." She had no particular wish for bloodshed, but nor did she feel any sympathy for men and women who'd chosen to prey on their fellows. They'd made their bed, now they would have to lie in it. If they had the sense to surrender, good. If not, she knew her duty.
She motioned Cie forward with one hand, pointing him towards O. and the tracks.

"Let's try and stay quiet then, hopefully they won't notice us approach and be prepared." O. says as he sees that everyone looks to be prepared, he turns and starts to follow the tracks, keeping an eye both on them and the area ahead for any surprises they might have left for them. "Let's head out, and here's to good luck."

"You're all right, of course. I'm just hoping we can end this without too much bloodshed." She sighed quietly, with Arwain still in her arms, and set out after O. She suspected trying so hard with what turned out to be the Ekans nest might have undermined her credibility in this regard a little... though the part where they were visibly still squires probably wouldn't help, either, no. And of course they did need to get the hostages free...
Sometimes she wished life actually worked like a story, without all the outside factors complicating things. It would make life a great deal simpler.

Gwyddel nodded and motioned for them to go ahead.
"I ain't got no Pokemon so I'll stay back and hold our retreat path. Doubt my arrows will help much anyways" |
Gwyddel, Rebellious Hunter __________________________________ |
The group advanced deeper into the forests, following the trail with ease. Gwyddel still followed, but remained out of sight in the rearguard. The darkness of the forest was heavier and heavier as time went on, and soon enough webbing and other very clear sight of bug infestation started showing among the trees. The sounds of the forest seemed to swallow the Squires, almost rattling with life. [Everyone make me a perception check. Since O is leading, I also want him to roll me a d100]

Morgan moves forward through the underbrush, ever forward. What do his eyes see?! His eyes, they see many things as they work in a way they haven't before! Morgan - 18 Fleur - 10

Elys takes the vanguard just behind O., ready to take defend him in case of ambush. Her Houndour roves ahead a little, sniffing at the trail periodically to confirm the tracker's findings. Elys gets a 4 and won't be seeing anything. Cie gets a 10.

O lead the way in front, trying to keep an eye out for anything hostile, but getting slightly distracted thinking on all the webs that had started cropping up. "Well this is getting a little eerie." O comments from his place up front. Perception of a 7 for O. and a D100 roll of a glorious 2

Maela is a bit jumpy as she follows the others through the woods, though she tries not to show it. She glances warily at the webs among the trees, trying to look in every direction at once and succeeding more in distracting herself than anything. Frankly, when she hears "giant spiders" her first thought is actually of the Drapion that infest the desert, of which she does not have good memories. Arwain's faintly glowing eyes dart around at a slightly more sedate pace in the shade of the forest. Maela's Perception is 3, Arwain's is 6.

Lana groans softly, nursing her headache. All of the talking and discussing of plans was necessary, of course, but never before had she wished so dearly that the others were telepathic with the ability to leave her poor ears out of the conversation.
She lags behind a bit, keeping her steps high as to not trip on something; surely that would only make the problem worse.
Is isn't until she sees some of the webbing that she begins to pay more attention on the forest rather than her own problems. Webbing meant... bugs, right? Or something like that? She wasn't too familiar with web-spinners up at home, and something told her she wouldn't be too fond of them shortly, so it was best not to get ambushed if at all possible...
( Lana's Per - 8. Kel's Per - 21..... )
