Morgan's hair bristled. Sugar? Why! That was no way to talk to a lady, let alone a servant of the crown! They may be but mere squires, but that did not give excuse!
"We, are here to solve the issue of banditry that you've been having these last few days." Morgan says haughtily, tracing his finger across table with mild disdain. "Being that you are men of the wood, were hoping that you might perhaps have an inkling as to the whereabouts of these vagabonds so that they may be brought to justice."

Maela sighed and stepped up behind Morgan. "Try not to get too defensive," she whispered. "She can handle it." It was awfully familiar of the hunter, but maybe he was just one of those people who talked to everyone like that. After all, everyone probably knew each other pretty well in a small village like this.

While Elys with Maela and Morgan talk to the hunters, O. heads over to the loggers. "Hello my good sirs, I was hoping to ask if any of you might know about where the bandits who plague you are hiding out. Eoghan sent us this way, saying you would have the best information of anyone in town."

Elys twitched. She wasn't sure exactly what the hunter was trying to say to her, but 'sugar' was clear enough. Condescending. Rude. "Any assistance you could offer," she said levelly, doing her best to sound polite and not as though she were restraining herself from issuing a challenge to a duel, "would be most welcome."

Lightly Tanned Hunter __________________________________ | The man's grin seemed to widen just a tad at Elys's slight reaction to his comment. "What's wrong, sweetheart, never heard them Crescent commonfolk talk before? Too busy up in court?" he joked, getting some chuckles from a slightly inebriated young hunter.
"S'good to have ye all here, though. Came with Eoghan, I s'pose. Them bandits are making me life ruddy difficult lately"
The tanned man ran a hand through his hair as if thinking, then motioned to one of the younger hunters.
"Y'all take Gwyddel there. He saw 'em last, when breaking the rules and goin' out to hunt alone. Needs some humbling, so hopefully traveling with the academy's chosen is goin' to teach him some" |

There was not so much of a hint of apology in the hunter's words. Elys kept her expression wooden. She didn't know how to address this sort of slight - the man was common-born and untrained, it would hardly be proper to issue a challenge even if the offense merited, which she was not at all sure of - and there was no time for her to work it out. She'd simply have to overlook it. At least the man seemed done joking at her expense; that last comment was almost conciliatory.
"Thank you," she said, nodding stiffly before turning to the young man. "Master Gwyddel. Unless you advise otherwise, we intend to start our search as soon as my other companions have finished their errands. Are you prepared to leave on short notice?"

"Thank you for your kind assistance." This looked like a good time to take over addressing the hunter. Elys seemed to be getting stiffer, which Maela suspected wasn't a good sign, and with her turning her attention to Gwyddel there was an opening to divert any more teasing.
"Is there anything else you all can tell us about the bandits? Their numbers, perhaps? Master Eoghan mentioned the leader and her spider - do you know if they have any other Pokémon with them?" After that mess with the Ekans Maela was wary of being outnumbered again without at least knowing about it beforehand.

Morgan grumbled unhappily, but otherwise added nothing. Maela was right; he was allowing himself to become lost in their... Common influence. Rather than worry about it too hard for now, he listened politely to the conversation with the apprentice huntsman. Gwyddel was it? Morgan trains his eyes and takes a good hard look at the boy.
They said he was in need of humbling; just why was that?

O turns to the hunter that seemed to be speaking for the whole group of hunters and loggers, "Has anyone else had family members taken aside from Eoghan's? It would be good to know how many hostages the bandits would have locked up.

The tanned man shook his head at O.
Lightly Tanned Hunter __________________________________ | "No, my nieces are the only ones that were taken, and it was because we didn't have the money to pay for two tithes. Eoghan had just left for supplies, so we only had what little we keep for ourselves" |
He then nodded at Elys, this time clearly more serious.
Vort, Eoghan's Brother __________________________________ | "Lamb guard you, squires. If their leader has truly tamed one of the spiders of the forest, then you'll need all the good fortune you can get. Don't let Gwyddel slow ya down too much. He's got quite the ego. " |
"That's only because I am the best hunter in this ruddy town, even if you refuse to admit it! And I've gone out to hunt solo plenty times without anything bad happening" Gwyddel said, clearly tired of all the jokes and comments being shot is way. He shot the tanned hunter a dirty look, before turning back to Maela. Gwyddel was fairly young, probably a year or so older than the group. He was fairly built thanks to farm life, and his coat had a fur collar he had probably taken as a trophy from a successful hunt.
"Look, I saw them from fairly far away and left quickly since it was way over my head. There's only so much a bowman like me, even the best one in town, can do against people with access to Battle-Bread Pokemon. Not sure what fancy names they had but I saw some dogs and one that looked vaguely human" |

Morgan nodded in appreciation. This Gwyddel seemed to be a rather more adjusted man. A smart fellow. He couldn't possibly see why the other hunters were being so rude to him; confidence was a good trait!
"We would be glad to have you along." Morgan said, adjusting his bow upon his shoulder. "Between the group of us, I dare say our vagabond foes stand not a single chance!"

"Hmm..." Maela unfortunately isn't a walking Pokémon encyclopedia, and Gwyddel's descriptions are vague enough that they could all refer to several varieties anyway. "Well, between all of us we should be able to make a much better showing. I wish we could convince them to surrender peacefully, but if they have that many Pokémon with them they'll probably be too confident to be intimidated into it. Perhaps taking down their leader and her spider will take some of the fight out of them..."
She looks from Gwyddel back to the tanned hunter. "I do have one more question. Is there somewhere in town the bandits could be held, if we manage capture any? I don't exactly fancy hauling them behind us all the way to Midvall." And of course simply slaying helpless or surrendering foes, even kidnapping scum like these, isn't to be thought of.

It takes Lana a while to finish up the treats and wait for them to bake; but once she has them packed up in neat little bundles and placed carefully into her pack, she makes her way back outside to find her companions. She tracks them down fairly quickly with a few general questions, just in time to hear the last of Maela's questions.
"Do we even have the supplies to be able to capture them? If you men have any spare manacles, well... they'd certainly come in handy. We have rope, but it's easily escaped with a little bit of survival knowledge. Our own Pokémon are a tad on the small size, at the moment, despite their skill in battle."

O. nods to Vort, at the answer to his question."Thank you for the information. I am sorry that they were taken, and I promise that they shall be returned to you. Gwyddel seemed to be a little arrogant, which is why Vort probably wants him to come along to suppress the bandits.
Turning to Lana as she enters and comments on capturing the bandits, "Even without manacles though, I should have enough rope to tie them all up, and if we take all their weapons they might not try to fight back, or escape; we would have already beaten them once at that point." If Al's Retreat had a place to hold them, then they would only need to get the bandits to the the town.

Vort, Eoghan's Brother __________________________________ | "Ah wouldn't care much if ya eliminated them for good. Not sure how you plan to capture an' entire pack of bandits, but if that's yer plan I'm sure we can put them in a barn somewhere" |
Vort didn't looked the most convinced by the idea, however. Truth to be told, neither did Gwyddel. "I can get us some hemp rope from my father's farm, I guess. Not sure if it'll be enough and it's gonna be pretty heavy to lug around, but it's the best bet for rope 'round these parts" |

'Eliminated them for good'... Lana swallowed, her eyes dropping to the ground. They were squires, bless, she shouldn't be so surprised that it would be expected of them eventually. She just didn't expect someone to suggest it so soon.
"We've got rope then; we'll play it by ear and hope they don't meet our challenge with do-or-die aggression. But I wish to believe that there is some good in them still. A chance for redemption."
But these men probably didn't want to hear that. She looked at her companions and nodded. Took a deep breath. "Let's do this."

Morgan nodded. It was... A sobering thought that they might have to, no, were expected to kill someone. His arrows were of coursed, sharpened for this reason. But, it really was a bit daunting to think about. "We can only hope, that they choose to surrender rather than face us at our full might. If not, then we shall do as much as we can to subdue them, one way, or another."
His head shakes. No. That was not like him. Seeing the relative unease in the room, he smiles a little smile. "Come, have cheer! Let us not forget their crimes, but remember that for their dark deeds, they will stand no chance against the burning light of shining justice! This shall be an easy task!"

Maela's polite smile faded a little. She could understand the villagers' point of view, of course, but she wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the idea of killing the bandits in cold blood. If they went down fighting, it was another question, of course - she suspected her fellow squires would be more bothered by that than she would - but if they'd surrendered or were helpless... That was never a position she'd been in before, and she didn't know how prepared she would be to deal with it.
"We'll see how things turn out, first of all. I just wanted to be certain of what our options are, should we take prisoners." Her smile returns. "We'd look pretty foolish if they did surrender and we were left standing around going, 'Now what do we do with them?'"
She gestures to her bag. "I have some rope with me, as well, so I doubt we'll find ourselves short on that front. But yes, the sooner we can take care of this problem, the better. There are girls who I am sure would like to see their family again. Shall we be on our way?"

O. nodded as Vort talked about eliminating the bandits. While it wasn't his first choice, he knew that eventually he and the other squires with him, would possibly be taking lives. At least if the bandits are their first kill, then hopefully they wouldn't hesitate when they do go to war.
"Yes let us go. The bandits will not wait for us. Gwyddel are you ready?" O. asks as he surveys his companions, and Gwyddel himself to make sure that they were mostly in an okay condition to fight, and hopefully prepared for what will come.
