~0~ The clamoring trumpets announced your arrival to Lobeminster Castle as your instructor hurried you past the heavily guarded main entrance.
"With haste, young ones" said Loyr Kellingham, your ever-serious and impassive swordsmanship instructor. "There is no time to waste in matters such as this one. With haste!"
Soon, you made your way into the majestic hall that held the Throne of Lions. King Urien was seated, a bored look on his face as he discussed matters of war with his many advisors. At your arrival he held up his hand and the hall quieted down.
"I welcome you to my castle, Squires. I take it your instructors have briefed you on why you have been summoned. Please, introduce yourselves" he said.

Lana hid her nervousness behind a smile all the way to the main hall. Before entering, she glanced sideways at her companions and whispered an excited "Chins up, yeah? This is it!" before straightening her posture and holding her family's shield proudly in front of her.
Being in the king's presence was intimidating, there was no doubt about that-- but Lana was more than eager to please the man who led the kingdom. It wasn't an opportunity many had in their lives, after all. She wondered what her brothers would think of this. Would they even believe her?
When King Urien addressed them, she wasted no time in kneeling, dipping her head with respect.
"Nolana Ó Dufaigh of Quaza's Nest, Your Majesty. It's a great honor."

Morgan clenched his fists beside him quietly. A petrified look of nervousness and awe was etched all over his face. "I'll try." He said quietly, shooting Lana a shaky grin.
They entered the throne room.
Oh no. Oh no. Today was not an ordinary day. On a normal day, it was simple. Wake up. Practice swordsmanship and archery. Admire his beautiful cohorts. Get bit by Fleur for not admiring her instead.
That all ended quite suddenly enough. One moment, he was attending a lesson, and the next... Well. None of that mattered now. How was he to go about this? Perhaps, a compliment on this supreme and beautiful throne room? Praise to the glory to the king, and the king's line?
No! Sir Kellingham's words returned to him. Haste! Haste was needed. As soon as Lana's words had passed, he followed suit with a bow. "Morgan Beauchamp, of Sylahan. Ah... Ditto. On ah... Being happy to... No! Honored... To meet you. Yes..."
Morgan ducked his head lower and stared at the tiles. Oh, this was embarrassing... How ugly of him!

This was a day Amy had been waiting for since she was young. The girl had always dreamed of having an audience with the King and serving her country, though she hoped it had been under more pleasant circumstances. Like the others, she was anxious, though her feelings of excitement and awe were just as strong, leading to a racing heart and mix of emotions. At Lana's encouragement, Amy grinned and nodded, making sure she was neat and tidy before they entered.
With Lana and Morgan introducing themselves with varying degrees of success, Amy KNEW she had to make a good impression! The squire knelt gracefully and bowed her head to the king.
"Amelia Rosenberg of Midvall, Your Majesty. It's an honor to serve."

Maela shot a smile back at Lana and Amy as they were led onward into the castle. She couldn't help but share the other girls' excitement. An audience with the king, and a special mission - this was obviously a sign that they were going places. Sure, she couldn't help but be a little nervous, if not as obviously as poor Morgan, but this was the first step on the road to great things!
She followed the others' lead in kneeling; the marble of the floor was smooth and cool beneath her. She held on to an even smile, doing her best not to let her excitement or her nerves get the better of her. She spoke up quickly after Amy, hoping that they could dispel the awkwardness of Morgan's introduction between them.
"Maela Tanarth, of Arinum." Well, near enough, anyway. Her name was proof enough that she was from the Cagailt Sgòthan Lighthouse. No need to belabor the point; she didn't need to coast on her family's reputation. "An honor to be of service, Your Majesty."

Even though he might not have usually, due to being about to meet the King, O was standing up straight and not trying to rush ahead. At Lana's comment though, a slight smirk comes across his face as he replies, "Yes, it's finally time."
As they enter the hall the smirk drops from his face and he kneels with the others now very serious. As he opens his mouth to introduce himself Lana starts speaking, and then everyone else swiftly introduces themselves, peeving O slightly since he wanted to go first.
"O. Meuric of Harnum, Your Majesty. It is a honor to be of service."

King Urien "Ironside" Ashworth De Leora IV | Urien nodded solemly.
"Well met, all of you. Now, although I am certain you know this already, it is nonetheless imperative for you five to understand the intricacies of your mission. Adalind, if you would be so kind?" |
A tall, young woman in a black robe took a step forward and opened a book. "Your mission is to head through the Midvall Crescent into the forests that lay at its other end. You must find clue of the whereabouts of one Gwenhael Abrgal, who was last seen heading into the forests two months ago and has not been heard of since. This is a matter of great importance since without Gwenhael's aid, and it is quite probable that the King's Armies will not be able to break through the enchantment currently isolating the rebellious duchy of Orias from the rest of the nation"
The woman paused for a second to brush a lock of straight hair behind her ear.
"Although not something often done, you will be trusted with a Scrystone with which to communicate information to us. It will allow you to give reports on your progress occasionally, however since it is depending on the power of ley lines it will not function constantly. We expect to hear every shred of information you find. If you locate Gwenhael, your mission then becomes escorting her to the front"
She turned the page then looked at the group of squires intently for a minute or so.
"For this task, you will also be given another partner Pokemon. It is trusted that you will use your current Pokemon to ensure a clean transition. The crown wishes all of you the best of luck in this endeavor" |

Maela took a deep breath and lets it out slowly, mostly because she was trying to keep herself from vibrating with excitement. Of course they'd been told what the mission was, but hearing it in the throne room brought it home that they were being entrusted with a serious mission.
"We're to travel through the Midvall Crescent to the Everlorn Forest in order to find the Silver Rider," she said, paraphrasing their orders to show she understood. "We'll report back all information we uncover by the Scrystone. If we can reach her, we're to escort her to the Orias front. In addition to the Scrystone, we'll each be entrusted with an additional Pokémon. Is that everything?"
She looked back at the dark-haired woman. "Is there anything we already know that you can tell us? We wouldn't want to waste time reporting something that had already been determined."

Morgan bobbed his head slowly. Everything that the lady in swimmingly gorgeous black robes and the king had said made perfect sense. Enter the Midvall Crescent. Find the Silver Rider, Gwenhael. Bring her to the front lines so that she may shatter the barrier around the treacherous duke's holdings. Simply! Only one thing bothered him.
Knack! Dare he say it? The woman with the lovely raven hair had asked him if he had questions. This could simply be another chance for him to make a dunce out of himself or... No! Be brave Morgan! Now was no time to unman himself by worrying about such petty things as pride.
"If I may ask a question of your esteemed majesty as well." he begins, taking his eyes off of the floor and his majesty's lovely assistant to meet the king's even gaze. "What was the reason for Gwenhael to enter the Midvall Forest? We were informed it was a personal quest of some sort, but nothing further."

Lana let the others speak first this time, nodding along with Maela's concise summary of their new quest. She had to fight the urge to bounce happily on the balls of her feet at the mention of a new partner-- that was so exciting! She and Kel had hit it off right away and found each other to be exceptional partners in training, and she could only hope the next pokemon available to her would connect in a similar way. It would certainly make the journey easier...
She caught herself daydreaming, and blinked back to attention as Morgan spoke up (thankfully a bit more confidently this time). A frown tugged at her lips at his question. It was something she'd been wondering herself, of course, but hadn't dared to ask. Hoping Morgan's inquiry wouldn't draw ire, Lana turned her gaze to the king as well, eager to hear a response.

O raises his head from where he had bowed it as the King and Lady Adalind, restate the mission he and his friends were about to head out on. Nodding along after each pause as well as after Maela reiterates the mission. O was quivering slightly where he sat, excited for another partner to race against, as well as hopefully one that was faster than him to make the challenge more fun.
After Morgan's confident question to the king, O turns back to Adalind, and speaks up "How exactly do we use the Scrystone? When we are on a ley line does it look different, so that we know when we can or can not report."

At the queries Adalind turned to look at Urien, as if asking how much she could say. The king made a circular motion with his hand and she nodded. "A Scrystone is a stone that has been modified to serve as a beacon for a permanent scrying spell. We do not have many, which is why you may not have heard of them before. You will know the link is open when it warms up... or when Amelia senses the line. Spellweavers can feel their locations instinctively"
Adalind looked pensive for a second, as if assessing what more she can tell you.
"Gwenhael left for the Crescent on a personal quest linked to the Lady in Green, of which we may not tell you the details. As for what to report? Assume we know nothing"
She adjusted her glasses and closed her book.
"If there are no more questions, we can now move to the selection ceremony and you may be on your way" |

Amelia had been attentive and listening carefully to the briefing, though she wasn't sure exactly Morgan was getting at with his question. Maela and O's questions were understandable and related to the mission, but asking about personal matters didn't really seem to add anything. Ah, well. She perked up upon hearing more about the Scrystones, and especially hearing how she would be needed to sense the ley lines! Even if her gift was the main factor in choosing her for the mission over someone else, it was still nice to be wanted.
The girl simply nodded and beamed once Adalind finished, eager to move on to choosing a new friend for Peaches! Well, technically another partner to battle with, but it would be nice for Peaches to have a friend, too! She was brimming with excitement, and really wanted to see what special pokemon had been chosen for this all-important mission. Amy considered summoning her Snubbull for her expert opinion while choosing, but that might be seen as rude.

Morgan pursed his lips quietly. The Lady in Green had always long been connected to House Arbgal, so Gwenhael embarking on a quest related to her should have come to no surprise. But, now? It must have been something important. If only they were allowed to know the details. It would make finding clues of her whereabouts so much easier!
Then again, where was the beauty in a quest that wasn't challenging?
For now, he would have to force himself to be content with the answer. He turned his focus back to the upcoming, but all-so exciting selection ceremony which was... Which was... It wasn't happening here, was it? In the throne room in front of all these people? He exchanged a quiet, worried glance with his comrades. Morgan had chosen Fleur partially because she was the most beautiful of his selections and mostly because she wrapped herself around his arm and refused to let go. But here, in front of all of these people, maybe he would want to change his criteria...

"Very well." Maela nodded, her expression still respectfully neutral. Fine, no leads, other than that their goal was last seen in the forest. Oh, well, if it was easy there wouldn't be so much ceremony about it. "No more questions from me."
And the selection ceremony. Now this was something - most of the squires her age who had bonded with even one Pokémon were in the throne room with her right now, and now they were choosing a second! She'd have to see what they were presented with... Arwain's glowing lures had reminded her of the lighthouse she left behind and the beacon she hoped to become. Her choice this time would probably be less symbolic, but she'd have to see which Pokémon stuck out to her. Maybe it would be a matter of practicality, maybe just a question of one that appealed to her.

"Thank you for the information, and I have no more questions that I can think of right now. O says respectfully before relaxing slightly as he waits for the briefing to end. It's not every day that the kingdom gives squires like him a pokemon; and O was hoping that whichever pokemon that he can choose would bond with him as well as Bryn did.

Adalind gave a curt nod.
"So be it. We shall proceed with the selection ceremony, then" she said. From within her coat she produced five sets of five beads each, which she let hang over the back of her left hand. A set of magical glyphs formed around her left hand and five arrays lit up in the middle of the hall. Some of the lesser-ranked guards who had accompanied you gasped, unaware that Lady Adalind was also a spellweaver in employ of the crown.
"We will start with Maela Tanarth. Please approach the selection glyphs and make your choice"

Adalind then approached her array to the first string of beads, activating the five. Each of the glyphs started shimmering as five Pokemon materialized inside them; A small red imp-like creature, a light brown spider with a drill for an abdomen, an acorn-like creature, a bluish bipedal amphibian and a small bat.

Maela stepped forward, observing the display with a due amount of appreciation. However much of a real display of spellweaving it was, it was visually impressive enough to people not schooled in it. She looked over the Pokémon being offered to her, trying to tally them with what she knew from her training. After a moment's thought she started to go from one glyph to the next just to interact with the Pokémon inside them, trying to get a read on their respective personalities. She'd murmur a few words of greeting, focusing more on the tone than the exact wording - calm and friendly was the key, wanting to see how they reacted to her and to being under inspection - and maybe extend a hand. That was important, after all. Not only did it affect their personal relationship, it was a big factor in how to train them, and of course in how they'd get along with Arwain, who could be a timid little thing. She tried not to take too long, of course - it would be rude to hold up the others - but a hastily-chosen Pokémon might clash with her enough that neither of them got all they could out of the relationship. Intuition (to try and discern the Pokémon's personalities): 11 Pokémon Education (to identify the Pokémon's species): 11

As Maela was called forward to choose her new partner first, Lana took the time to glance at her other companions to assess their states. Most were excited-looking, which she supposed was good. She was proud of each of them, just as she was of her brothers; the years since they'd started training together had been long and trying, and there was nobody she'd rather be standing here with today. Hopefully they'd all get pokemon that continued to serve their fighting styles well.
She turned back to watch Maela, seeing her stop before each glyph in turn. It was only then that Lana realized just how little she herself knew about most pokemon in general. How was she supposed to know which strengths would compliment hers, and Kel's by extension?
Suddenly more than a bit nervous, she drummed the pads of her fingers against the curve of her shield. She yearned to hum to calm her nerves, but dared not do so aloud.

Maela recognizes three of the Pokemon: Magby, Woobat and Seedot. The other two, she's not quite certain. The amphibian looks remarkably twitchy, though.
