Brenda does indeed speak to them as Clay does, but she seems unable to fully understand her other Pokemon in the same manner. If she has a similar gift to his, then perhaps hers is lesser? Blaziken knows not of any human tribes that boast such an ability. Not to say they don't exist at all, but as with most Wild Pokemon, their tribe keeps to itself and isn't aware of much that goes on beyond the mountain.

Clay shouldn't be surprised, but he's still a little disappointed that he isn't really any closer to solving the mystery. Maybe he should go back to the Blazing Tree Troop and see if any of the older Infernape remember anything about when he first came to them. Then again, pursuing this lead when they've got more important stuff to worry about feels kind of selfish.
Speaking of things he needs to be doing, he should really get going. He thanks the Blaziken healer again for its help, then goes to see if Brenda's awake so he can at least tell her he's leaving. And maybe give her some prize money, if she cares - he doesn't know if she ventures into human territory often enough to use it.

Brenda is, in fact, awake, and training with her Primeape already. Apparently her injuries barely even hurt after only an hour or two. She's not really interested in Clay's prize money; she doesn't enter human territory often enough for it to be of use. He can keep it and use it for...whatever the heck he might use it for.

Clay shakes his head. "Geez, you just don't quit. Well, I promised Kalani I'd be home tonight... I sent Peng to let her know I'd be late but I gotta get started down the mountain. See you later."
And he'll head off down the slope as well as he can manage, hoping to make it down without injuring himself or his team further.

At the mention of 'not quitting', Brenda remarks that she feels that might factor into Clay's constant losses against her (granted, they've only dueled twice, but still). If he spent more time training and less time doing...whatever the heck else he's doing, upsetting the "Pokemon gods" (or at least that death-bird thing she's heard about) then maybe he'd actually stand a chance!

"Yeah, well, when crazy lady's done trying to murder everybody with death bird powers I will," Clay huffs quietly. "Sorry if I'm busy trying to save the world here. How'd you hear about that, anyway?"
He'll have to at least hang around to hear the answer to that before he leaves. Maybe the troop sent somebody up here... that'd be nice, if they're getting the word out.

"Oh, your dressy friend and a bluenette showed up to ask for help dealing with death-bird's minions. You know me, I'm always up for a fight, even if it's against seemingly impossible odds; so I figured 'eh, why not?' and pledged our help when the fighting starts." She thinks a moment. "In fact, you only missed them by a few hours. They were probably going down when you were on your way up."
Clay probably has no idea what a 'bluenette' is, but hopefully 'dressy friend' is enough for him to decipher that Rei was here.

Clay blinks. "What even - okay, I guess Raido can probably climb pretty good, that'd get them up and down faster. I didn't expect them to come looking for you, but hey, help is great! The big deer said it was easier to protect people actually fighting the bird anyway. Don't ask me why, I dunno how god stuff works."
He hesitates for a moment, then his shoulders slump as his voice grows more solemn. "Hey, uh. You know this is some serious stuff, right? I mean, I'm not doubting how good you are - 'specially not after you kicked my tail like that - but... this is something there's a pretty good chance not everyone's gonna come back from. I - we got dreams about this stuff. Nightmares. I've seen a little bit of what might happen if we don't succeed. I don't really know about souls, but the people it kills... they're empty, afterwards. It's..." He shudders and shakes his head.
"I mean, we can definitely use all the help we can get. I just... We can't get out of this, and I wouldn't if I could, but I wanna make sure you know what you're signing up for."

"A 'god' is just a really strong Pokemon from what little I understand. Throw enough attacks their way and they'll go down same as anyone else." Brenda remarks. "As for your friend, looked to me like she just hiked all the way up here. If she had one of them mountain-climbing Pokemon with her, I didn't see it."

"Okay, never mind, it's just her having longer legs then." Clay huffs quietly. "I don't even know what she's planning anymore, honestly. This whole thing has been hard on her. All of us, honestly. Apparently the, y'know, horrible nightmares are just because that's the only way Darkrai can tell us stuff, but I'm pretty sure it's done some kinda permanent damage to Rei and Tiki. Not to mention that they don't trust these god Pokémon anymore. Darkrai's trying, and Xerneas seems like a good guy, but Darkrai's messenger was kind of a jerk and apparently the one Rei talked to wasn't good either. Not to mention that Rei's the only one D'mara's cronies have actually gone after..."
He sighs and runs a hand through his shaggy hair. "Y'know what, never mind. You don't need to listen to me complain about this stuff. Anyway, thanks for the help. And fight. I'm gonna get you one of these days." He flashes her a brief, strained smile. "I oughta get home, Kalani's probably worried even after I sent her a message."

The conversation at an end, Brenda nods curtly to Clay and resumes her sparring with Primeape.

And Clay limps back down the mountain and back into Cerulean. He's at least able to walk now but he's still clearly pretty banged-up. The first thing he says when he gets back to Kalani's house is "I'm sorry I'm so late. I didn't figure on how long it took to get up and down the mountain."

Kalani, in her usual style, glomps him the moment he walks through the door, citing that she's ever so glad to have him back again. She chastises him for getting all beat up again, but then just sighs resignedly and has him go get cleaned up for dinner.

Clay chuckles sheepishly and decides not to admit that he was in worse shape before the Blaziken helped him out. He just heads upstairs to get cleaned up. He'll have to duck out and run by the healers to help everybody get patched up after dinner - they're definitely going to need a break tomorrow either way, but the healers are definitely still necessary. The crushing defeat has been a little disheartening - but he saw how hard Brenda had to push herself to get those results, and knowing she's on their side helps, too.
If only he could keep his mind off of how adrift he feels, even with them having just met with Xerneas a couple of days ago. He needs to get back together with Rei and Holly so they can plan their next move. Ideally with Tiki, too - as much as he knows she wants to avoid dealing with Rei and Holly, they need to be together on this. "We can't keep splitting up like this," he says out loud to Fan. "If me and you guys can't go one-to-one with Brenda and her team, there's no way we're taking on Yveltal unless we all work together."

Clay leaves Tiki to rest and heads back into town, aiming for Master Nob's dojo. For a brief moment he worries that he may have forgotten the way to it, as it's been almost two months since he was last there. Wow. Not even two months into his tenure as an Adventurer's Guild member and he's already on a quest to save the world. Crazy. Thankfully, despite his distraction, Fan keeps him on the right path to their destination. No sooner has he opened the door than he suddenly needs to dodge as someone shouts "SHORYUKEN!" and attempts to uppercut him from out of nowhere. After leaping back to avoid the strike, he sees a person he doesn't recognize wearing the student uniform of Master Nob's dojo, laughing at his misfortune.

Oh, great, there's a new guy and he likes to punch people walking in the door. As short as Clay is, an uppercut for a normal person winds up targeted somewhere closer to his nose, but thankfully he doesn't have to worry about getting it broken. Clay lands nimbly on his feet and shoots the guy a glare. "Wow, is this how we're greeting guests now? I got few enough brains, I don't need them rattled even worse, thanks."
Fan's flame flares up a little brighter as she scampers up next to him, but he shakes his head. "Settle down, sis. No need to waste the energy unless this guy wants a proper fight." He bows to Punchy McAmbush. "Name's Clay, and this is Fan. We were students of Master Nob's for a little while, thought we'd come by and visit. Is he around, or is he busy somewhere?"

The young man doesn't even try to hide his grin, though it fades after a few moments as he calms down. "Ah, the illustrious Clay, eh? Master Nob has told us all about his 'little monkey'. Says you're one of his best students. Yeah, he's around someplace. Want me to find him for ya? Oh, my name is Ryu by the way."

Clay has the grace to look a little embarrassed at the secondhand praise. "Oh, wow, really? He's too nice sometimes. But yeah, if you could find him, that'd be great. Or send me to him, or something."
He grins at the guy. "Ryu, huh? Well, if you ever want a match that doesn't start with me on the other side of a closed door, let me know. Though I'm kinda busy today."

Ryu laughs and says he'll take you on anytime. A martial artist never backs down from a challenge. In the meantime though, he walks off further into the dojo to find Master Nob. The dojo itself is just how Clay remembers it from the last time he was here. It's definitely nice to see things that haven't changed on occasion. Especially with all the craziness that Clay's been dealing with of late. Master Nob and Ryu return after a few minutes.

Clay's face lights up when he sees Master Nob. It's amazing how comforting the dojo and Master Nob's familiar presence are - even more, somehow, than going back to the troop, even if he spent so much less time here. Maybe it just proves he really is a human after all.
He restrains himself from running to meet his old master, and manages to tamp it down to a bow. "It's good to see you again, Master. How are you?" He wonders distantly if Ryu is going to hang around until they chase him off. He seems like an okay guy, apart from the greeting punch thing, but it would really be difficult to talk to Master Nob about some of the stuff that's been going on with him hanging around.
