It's the first time since leaving Johto she had something like a clean win in her favor, as she's had really nothing but losses or very even matches. Close victories have their place but just so many of them have tired Lia out. But she doesn't exactly want to leave the guy upset, he didn't do anything to deserve that. She shakes his hand, and points out the oddball moves that his Girafarig had, complimenting them. With that she takes the money and leaves toward the center, and continues scouring the city for a 2nd opponent.

While looking, she thinks she sees something as she passes by the entrance back to route 4, and goes to investigate.

While in the Pokemon Center, you bump into a guy about your age who seems to have just finished healing his own Pokemon.
"Oh woops. Sorry about that. Didn't know you were right behind me."
He has a full team of six on his belt, and seems to be the sort of guy who spends a lot of time in the woods. Possibly a Bug Trainer, based on his attire and the collapsible butterfly net on his back. He also has an odd-looking necklace with a rainbow-colored gem in it hanging around his neck.

"Oh sorry, just a little sluggish today. My fault."
Lia catches sight of the stone.
"Oh what in the world is that? Feel like there's some cool ruin exploring story or something behind it."

He grins.
"Heh. It's the thing everyone is asking about. It's this amazing little artifact called a 'Key Stone'. When paired with a special type of stone called a 'Mega Stone' held by certain species of Pokemon, it allows for a powerful form of battle strategy called 'Mega Evolution'. It's said that only Trainers and Pokemon with a very special and very powerful bond can achieve this type of Evolution. 'Mega Pokemon' have strengths above and beyond those of most average Pokemon. This makes them a lot harder to control as well, which is why you and your Pokemon must have complete trust. My Pokemon and I have only recently mastered this form, but due to its power, we usually reserve it for special battles, like Gym Challenges and the like."

Lia's face reels in surprise as he describes what the stone does.
"I mean I'd 'heard' of that sort of thing but didn't know it was real. ...Honestly thought those punk dojo trainees were just making that up. I mean, they probably lied that they did it but... Still."
Lia smiles as an idea crosses her mind.
"Ok, you and I gotta duke it out. I wanna see if I can get that kinda 'special battle' out of ya, so I can see it myself! What say ya?"

"Well, my Pokemon and I never turn down a challenge, but I'll warn you: We've already got 3 badges. If you still want to go for it, then let's step outside and see how this goes. I'll even let you determine the rules. Though I'm afraid I'm not much of a fighter myself, so if you were hoping for Trainer Combat, I must disappoint you. I wouldn't be much of a challenge I imagine."

"I might have tried suggesting that if I wasn't so messed up from Mt Moon... so your safe from my wrath haha. But hells yeah I still want to try. If I lose, I lose. No biggy losing to someone who's proven to be further down the path. But if I can push someone like you... then I know I'm on the right track. I'm just going to swap a few pokemon around first, and then lets find a place. Full league standard, and it looks like you got six, lets just do a full on long brawl!"
Lia heads to the PC, swapping out Jazda and Los for Skala and Kwarc. She then heads to a nice open area for the battle.
"Alright, lets do this! Scier, you up first my lady!"
Scier floats in from behind Lia, and forms an adorable fighting stance.

"Ah, a Chimecho. In that case, we'll go with... Masquerain! Start us off with Agility! Also, if you don't mind my asking, what happened yesterday that prevents you being able to push for Trainer Combat?"
A pale blue/white Pokemon with large eyes? appears. No, those are antennae apparently. Really big ones that look like angry eyes. It buzzes in acknowledgement of Dan's command, and begins rapidly flitting about the battlefield, leaving behind illusory clones of itself.
Masquerain's Speed sharply rose! (+2 Speed CS)
Dan's Pokemon are Agile an Focused.
Evasions: 2/2/4

"Lets start with some prep ourselves, Scier. Reflect!"
Scier begins summoning the barriers and Lia continues: "Well every wild pokemon in that mountain wanted to step up to yours truly, and after kicking them all to the curb, this woman had a big ol Ariados web set up to trap people so she could extort them for money, or feed the poor sap to the spider. And my new friends and I beat her, but still got our collective asses handed to us. I basically passed out once we got to the center here last night, and Nurse said I gotta take it easy for a day before I go punching people again."Scier uses Reflect!

"Ouch. Sounds like a rough time. Glad you're alright though. Seems like a very cruel or desperate person that sets up a trap like that. Did you happen to get a good look at her though? Just so I know if I bump into her to let my bugs give her a good talking to about such things."
"Alright, Masquerain, use Gust."
The Masqerain begins beating its 4 wings rapidly, kicking up dust and debris as the powerful winds buffet poor Scier. Dan uses Focused Orders.

The weakened Masquerain finally falls. Dan recalls it.
"Wonderful job, Masquerain. Rest for now. Vivillon, you're up next! Struggle Bug!"
Dan Binds Iterative Evolution Strategem for 2 AP.
If a Bug-Type Move would deal Super-Effective damage, it gains +2 on accuracy rolls. This takes place after any other modifiers, such as Tinted Lens or Blindness.
A beautifully colored insect Pokemon emerges from its Poke Ball. It flaps its wings gently for a moment, then sends multi-colored beams of energy from them towards Scier.
