"Um, couldn't we just sneak in and grab an officer or something? Quiet and stealthy and not having to fight an entire camp's worth of men and mon?" Connor put forward tentatively, keeping his voice low. Fuerte, standing with his arms crossed at Connor's elbow, looks positively delighted by the potential challenge. The fully-healed Hawlucha was obviously ready and raring to go; and unfortunately for Connor, was his only mon that wouldn't give away their position in the dark.

"Both good points." He taps his foot for a moment, weighing their options. "Problem with that plan, Connor, is that if we make any noise while we nab the captain, we'll be in the thick of it and surrounded. If we ambush them we weaken them before shit hits the helioptile, so to speak." He turns to Erias and leans in, whispering aside as if for this moment the channeler is a secret confidant. "What do you think?" Rough Map - Details Missing

Erias was a bit surprised the Captain wanted his opinion. "... I admit the idea of slaughtering a bunch of soldiers in their sleep doesn't... quite sit will with me, sir. Not exactly the most heroic thing to do, you know? But..." The boy's expression turned steely in grim determination. "If I believed heroism was all our nation needed, I would've stuck with the knights."
His gaze took in the small gathering of flickering torches. To fall in battle was one thing, but if any of their foes died tonight it would not be in honorable combat. And this was a training camp... many of the soldiers sleeping soundly in their tents must be no older than the squires back at the academy. "Still, Connor's plan has merit. Getting in and out quickly might serve our purposes better than a drawn-out fight. If we try to take them all out, even if we thin half their number before they can get organized, it will not be a quick battle. Nor a clean one. The chances that something will go wrong are greater the longer we take. And we don't know how close by reinforcements may be... I wonder. Perhaps a combination of the two courses of action? Make them believe they're under a concentrated attack, by wild Pokemon, and then nab their leadership under cover of the confusion and panic?"

"I see your logic. This will be our plan, then. There are too many unknowns to just march in and lay them to waste. Dumani, I'd wager that tent at the far end, the larger of the two, would be the captain's tent. At this hour, he should be in there. You and I will sneak in and apprehend him as quietly as possible. Connor and Erias will stay here on overwatch. If the alarm is raised they'll cause a distraction and buy us some time to escape. Remember that lake we passed about ten minutes ago? We'll meet there. If you can't find it, just follow one of the game trails - most of them should lead there."
With a quick, curt nod and no other planning, Mutt unsheathes his weapon and begins to stalk along the perimeter of the camp.

"Um, what about if we circle around, see if there's any places we can get into the buildings without being in line of sight of their lookouts? We need to find where the captain is anyway, and if we ambush them while they're asleep... maybe we could just knock them out and leave them? I mean, what's worse. Dying by stealth attack, or getting knocked out and your things stolen, but you and your fellows weren't worth the time to actually kill? Wouldn't that be a pretty big morale breaker for them? The first one makes them all martyrs to the causes, stirs up the population. The second one... that's an embarrassment on a national level, that they may want to cover up more than anything." Connor is nodding to himself now. "Might even make them remove the training camp to an area deeper inside their borders." He looks up from his musings to see that the Captain has already left. "Ah crapbaskets..." Sighing, he'll edge to get a better vantage point on the camp, looking to Erias with an "oh well" shrug beforehand. Connor moves to 10H, Fuerte moves to 9H. Dumani simply nodded as he crouched down and began to follow Mutt. It didn't take long for him to catch up, but now the real challenge was about to begin. In the camp, he had no way of hiding himself if he got spotted, and he ha the Captain to look after. Already he was making plans in his head, the Stantler he caught early was likely gonna be seeing use if they had to fight. But that was if they got caught, and right now they were unseen. Dumani and Mutt slowly pick their way across the northern perimeter of the camp. Looks like the camp is quiet - one soldier and his pokemon scrounging for firewood, another tending the campfire at the center. Its clear that the largest building is what passes for something like a barracks. The tent beyond is the mess. There are no further noises, and it sounds like the infiltrating Rangers have not been detected.
Erias and Connor haven't been spotted yet, either. The trainee nearest the fire is stoking it with the help of a charmander, while a young woman with a pawniard is gathering deadfall from the woods a modest distance away.

Drawing his shortbow, Erias noticed with some disappointment that his hand was shaking. Clamping down on is nervous excitement, he shook his head to clear it from distraction and prepared to cover Dumani and the Captain. Through the link, Erias let Anima share his thoughts - if things went south, she would create as much chaos as possible with her telekinesis. The Ralts nodded, frowning in determination; Erias could sense her fear of failing him, and sent as much reassurance as he could muster back to her.

Connor tightens his grip on his "thunder-stick", if things went badly he'd use it on the girl, and have Fuerte put down the Pawniard with one swift Karate Chop. Hopefully it wouldn't kill the poor thing...

The sooner they were out of the camp, the better. Taking the lead, Dumani began to make his way more and more towards the location where the captain was resting. His body was fairly low to the ground, making sure to keep an eye on the two guards. As soon as he got a chance, he moved from spot to spot, waiting for his next chance to get closer to the captain.
