She hesitates before speaking, contemplating this thought that wasn't her thought. A foreign element? No. It was her thought now. The catharsis of knowing the time and date of passage from this life to the next was rare. Laudable even, to know that even were you to pass, you could spend those last moments doing something that mattered. Maybe then, though he couldn't perhaps see the future, he'd know the future existed through his actions. Maybe that would be enough.
Her hand eases back onto the table as the young trainer pushes through the uncomfortable silence.
"Xatu has been working with me to fight a trio of very, very strong Pokémon." She starts. As she speaks, her voice steadies as she levels her eyes with a pained seriousness that betrayed her usual quirks. "They are Pokémon that I have to convince to fight the rain monster, because the great bird of the depths won't be able to win this fight on their own."
She holds for just a moment, as she gives her avian companion a deferential side eye. "He first teleported me to a volcanic mountain. Then to a glacier. In each place I had to fight a Pokemon much stronger than me. But the toll on him is just as great, because it's not easy reaching out that far. Once he teleports me to the next bird or back, then he's gonna pass away for good having used up the last of his essence."
Her eyes draw downward. But they don't go, downward. They look up, a little bleary eyed as she stares straight across the table. "Today's his last day. If it wasn't this, then it was going to be something else, like a plane, or choking on a berry. That's how death works for Xatu, I think. But that's also why we gotta treat him good. Because it's last day, and he's chosen to spend it here with us. And that's important because he's a very good bird who deserves good things."

"Oh honey...". Miranda broached sympathetically, moving to dry Muku's eyes. "If he knows it is his time, he made peace with it a long time ago. Are you going to be okay? Saying goodbye to a friend today?"
Chuck considered the bird with renewed interest, his usual slack expression when he wasn't laughing or angry. "You did all that...?". Xatu looked Chuck in the eyes, and he inhaled sharply. "...Whatever condition he is in, you bring him home Muku. We'll make sure he rests undisturbed and is well celebrated even if I gave to house that weirdo Morty as my personal guest!" The heavy man scrubbed his eyes with a hairy forearm.

Muku pushes back, if only just a little, against Miranda's kind hand. "I'm gonna be alright." She replies with a bobbing nod. "Sorry, sorry. That was just all kinda hard to explain for a second. I'm not good at explaining, just at beeping, and I wasn't sure if all that was going to make sense, but it did make sense and because of that it makes me... Glad."
With a little groan, she taps the side of her face gently. This isn't about her. It's about him. No tears! There we no need of those.
Not yet anyways.

"I know you will.". Miranda answered genuinely. "Did you want me to show you how to put your hair up in a comb before you leave? So you can be a bird that scares other birds?"
Chuck gives a stretch, and claps Muku lightly on a shoulder. "Going to see how things are around town. Come home to roost when you are done beating down a storm, alright?"

"Ok. Alright. When you get back, I'll have my hair up. That will frighten you as well. Yeah? Yeaaaaaah."
Muku recovers with a smirk, playing off the dread with a devil may care attitude that could only just mask the very real concern for her situation that bubbled just below the surface of acknowledgement. "We'll do up Xatu as well. Or give him a wig. A strong, powerful wig."
Or perhaps she considers, strength bolstering her spirit. Perhaps an intimidating sunhat? The wide brim, the darkened shade of night during the day. Deepening shadows casting dreams across one's face, mysterious and wonderous. Yes. Xatu clearly needed a sunhat.

Miranda makes good on her promise. After a breakfast of eggs, she gathers up dyes and products, giving Muku's hair color and highlight, and holding it against even the fiercest wind and wettest rain. A crest that could not become fallen! Xatu received a sun hat that complements his feathers from Miranda's things. Preparations complete, Xatu looks up to Muku.
"If you are ready.". (You may restyle Muku's hair as you like. The new do gives you a skill stunt for intimidating birds.)

As at last Miranda’s hands withdrew from Muku’s scalp, the young girl beheld herself in the mirror. Atop her head sat a beautiful crown of black and red, highlights expertly done to give the impression of a mostly truly fearsome bird. Muku, clutching a small picture Pokepedia at her chest looks down, then up to make sure it matched the reference material. It did.
Her hair now jutted up in a point, stuck forever in time by gel and moxie to defy gravity. It slicked past her ears like a finely oiled machine, for it was oiled. More oiled than those terrible quacking creatures that Muku had never encountered and hopefully never will. Surely yes, this hair, it would resist the rain. This hair would never falter against the forces of nature.
Like the Ruins of Alph, it would stand against eternity.
“I like it.” Muku chirps.

"It suits you dear.". Miranda smiled and gave Muku a little kiss on the cheek. "When things become hard, keep your confidence, and know that Chuck and I are rooting for you. You are always welcome here, crest or no crest, win or lose."

“I know. But I’m not about to lose.” Muku replies confidently. With a sharp flourish, she tilts her hat onto her heard, obscuring, though somehow not crushing her new do’. Hair was temporary. Hat was eternal. The old captain’s hat confines, though does not crush her hair. It respects the creat too much. The ghost captain bows in respect, hiding the hair somewhere in the nether. An ancient being stares quietly in emptiness. The ancient being was always empty.
Muku however had nothing to do with such beings. She was very much alive, though whether she would continue to be so was yet to be seen.
She takes mental stock. Hair check. Hat check. She whirls the mariner’s coat about her. Coat? Check. “Xatu. I’m all ready here. Anything you want to do before we head out?”

"My affairs were well in order long before this day, but thank you for your concern.". Xatu replied, spreading his wings wide and carrying his charge onward towards the beak of death itself.
The third island was unlike the other two. Lush and forested, the air heavy with wet, in some distant place the storm of the century had not yet reached. A reminder of what was, morning sun beating down on a high canopy, the screech of pig monkeys in the distance. A large and incredibly angry looking bird with a massive curved bill in bright reds, oranges, and yellows watched Muku and Xatu with blue eyes from the shade some distance above.

“Why.” Muku mutters, staring up into the sun-burnt sky and surrounding greenery. This place bore a stunning vista with plants and wildlife the likes of which she had not yet seen in her life. So why? Why did it have to be so hot?
Well. She knew one person who would like it. In a flash, Mmip is there beside her. Only good sun for her best partner. She turns over to face Xatu. Huh. Maybe the sunhat was actually a really good choice? Probably. Ignoring her own little bit of future sight, she addresses Xatu and immediately gets down to business.
“Ok. So. Which way do I need to be walking?” Her eyes glance uo to the powerfully beaked bird high up in the tree. “Don’t suppose I need to ask them, do I?”

A distant peal of thunder against the blue sky sent the large toucannon flying deeper into the woods. Xatu shifted his posture tiredly, moving to a stump overgrown with mushrooms and ferns, before spreading his wings wide. "It's been an honor, Muku. To be your wings when you had none. To partake in the largest grub together. Goodbye."
Xatu folded his wings against his belly, and closed his eyes for the first time since Muku had met him, and a beak erupted from his chest, skewering the bird effortlessly and without resistance.
With a flick of its head, the spiky plumed avian in a shade of golden brown, feathers shining in what sun made it to the forest floor, clicked its beak and eyes the fresh kill with intent. It was unconcerned with Muku's presence.

There were no words for such a moment. There were really, no need for words. She was angry. Ferally angry. One can know a death is coming. But it does not mean it couldn't take her by surprise. In such moments, there could really only be one response. A violent, and swift response. Leaping swiftly and unwisely, she flies straight foward into a flying leap, flinging her head forward with great force as she tries to headbutt her new and most sudden foe. Mmip, perhaps sensing now was the time for anger, decides to take a different tact on the subject, hurling out a haze of blood red powder from a slight range. Thus in an instant, battle was joined. WE FIGHTIN'. Mmip acts on 30, Muku on 18. Mmip is using Rage Powder, a move which does not need an accuracy roll. It is Line 6, and I'm gonna have her use every bit of the range for reasons. Muku is gonna activate Burst of Speed, Acrobatics, then Headbutt on Init 9, because boi howdy is she pissed.
Rage Powder Text: 'All legal targets hit by Rage Powder are Enraged. While enraged, they must shift to target the user when using a Move or Attack if the user is within reach. If the user is Fainted or Switched out, all legal targets hit by Rage Powder are no longer Enraged.'
Mmip is also doin' a Flutter, if possible.

Muku ANGER.
Acrobatics! AC 2 - PlErZAKS1d20
Headbutt! Flinch on 15 AC 2 - 1d20
Damage Acro - 3d10+37
Damage Headbutt - 2d6+37
If either hit, a Swift Action will be sacrificed to lower Zapdos' Attack Stage by 1. Surprisingly, it's another whole ass turn, so if Muku hits twice, that is two stages.
-
Results?
2 and a 4. Lots of anger. Lots moxie. VERY little results.
Probability Reroll - 1d201d20
Acrobatics scored a 7 over 2 and Headbutt an 8 over 2. Maybe hits?
If so... 51 Flying Physical and 40 Normal Physical. Down 2 Atk Stages on the big ol' birb. 1d20·1d20·3d10+37·2d6+37·1d20·1d20

Muku's blows land true, but her attempts to demoralize Zapdos only seems to incite it further. Blowing past Muku, it performs a spiral lunge, beak first, that Mmip casually floats around. It immediately follows this with a blow from one of its wings, bouncing the plant hard off the ground, drawing deadly sharp claws along stone and igniting a foot behind it, and catching Mmip with a follow-up blazing roundhouse.

In a flash, Muku was by Mmip's side, curling her arms together in a desperate attempt to take the full brunt of the burning blow. Mmip turns to her trainer, rustling her swathes in what might have been thanks, perhaps. Wing blows she could take. Burn kicks? Not so much. Dusting herself off with the wind, she tries attempts to seed her foe. Suddenly, there is a vibrant pop as Muku feels a familiar pair of lavender sashes wrap reassuringly around her arms. Talon was here. While they were disappointed she would start this fight without them, they would nonetheless guard and keep her safe amongst the hurrying gale. And of course, they would also do great and mighty violence. Their twin blades shine a mighty silver and red, as they begin the process of pumping themselves up for the fight. Mmip flutters in place while attempting a Leech Seed.
Talon releases themselves onto the field at a mighty 2 initiative. On that count, they will be using Iron Defense. At the end of their turn, Muku will activate Stat Sync to bring their attack up a stage as well.
Muku spent her whole turn reacting in order to catch the attack on Mmip.

Leaping at Mmip, the bird lashes a leg out with such speed that a crash of thunder follows it, blowing a tree in half just behind where Mmip had just been. (Thunderous Kick Miss). The edge of a wing bruises into the puffballs soft front, and a headbutt follows. (65 Dark physical, Mmip can't use sonic moves or make noise. 58 Norm Physical resisted one step.)

Mmip struggles against the blows bashing up against her delightfully soft and squishy form. She had so many muscles, but a distinct lack of anything really resembling defensive capabilities. Deep, deep within the recesses of Muku's more tactical mind, she regrets perhaps not investing in that part of Mmip more. To help perish the thought, Muku chooses to but simply attempt to bash her skull into the opposing bird's head. On her back, Talon goes a bright crimson and begins to do a twirling twist as the pair of blade get ready to strike. All of this meant nothing to Mmip. The Jumpluff gives off a vague frown. She was going to go down. It was tragic. But the most tragic part? She never got enjoy the sun. That sweet, beautiful, good, good sun. Well. Her trainer wasn't giving her any meaningful orders. Muku was just kinda screaming a lot in a righteous rage. Perhaps she wouldn't mind if Mmip had just a lil sippy sip of the sun? Her fronds extend joyously. Suddenly, her fronds turn alight with a brilliant sheen as Mmips atrophied chlorophyll suddenly kick into overdrive. A veritable surge of energy rushes through her, empowering her. Strengthening her. Sun is power. Sun is life. All praise the sun! Mmip continues to Flutter and uses Synthesis. 2/3rd of HP recovered thanks to the Sun!
Muku uses Headbutt! Flinch on a 15+.
Talon Sword Dances. That's it. That's the move.

Zapdos screeches in Muku's face after receiving a brutal headbutt, but resumes its assault on Mmip, blinded as it is by rage. Another flaming, whirling kick, the bird rotating in midair to land the other claw before thudding solidly to it's feet. (72 Fire Physical, 55 Normal Physical resisted one step.)

Again, Muku takes the fiery blow with a hiss, sparing Mmip from the brunt of it. In return, Mmip makes one last ditch effort to slow down the attacking Zapdos; her patented sleepy powder. With a shake, she spreads it to the sky in order to perhaps slow down the attacking foe for just, one moment. But before those powders can reach their intended foe, it is Talon, sweeping foward with a darkened power, blade swooshing through the air with unbelievable force. Muku intercepts, tonking another hit with Mettle. Her health bar turns yellow at these continued ill-advised strikes. Talon Shadow Sneaks, acting before Mmip in spite of her powerful initiative. After Talon, Mmip uses Sleep Powder and flutters.

Zapdos lets out another screech as Talon cuts into it, throwing its wings high and wide in a hideous display before catching Mmip's pretty blue powder in the face. It falls into a fitful, angry sleep. Zapdos' beak clicks and it hisses periodically. (Two sleep checks failed.)
