"No. There wasn't much of anything any of the other birds did for me." Muku chirps. "I didn't have the same kind of relationships that other birds had with each other. So, in that respect, I'm actually pretty good to go."
Muku was of the flock, but none of the other birds really imprinted upon her like she had seen some of the Staravia do for the younger Starly. She had to work a little harder on self-preening, fly a little longer to keep up with the rest. The rest of the flock was there for her, but they also weren't there for her. A late realization, sad, but true.
"The flock was family. But being wild once- well. Honestly, after everything I've gone through, it's just enough to be here tonight, ok?"
"It's enough just to have someone look after me." She thinks to herself. That too was enough.

"Thank you for staying the few days and helping out Muku.". Miranda stood on tiptoe to give the girl a little peck on the forehead. "What do you want for breakfast tomorrow? I'll grab everything I need from the store early morning."
...
A distant peal of thunder jolted Muku awake amidst dreams of fierce eyes and unrelenting violence. Xatu, eyes mostly closed, perches on a chair in one corner of the room. Mmip stares out the window, usually carefree expression carrying disappointment. Mmip was hungry, not thirsty. Rain was bad flying weather too.

“Just eggs.” Muku replies sweetly, oblivious of the truth, hiding from the reality that she enjoyed eating someone else’s children. One day she would confront that reality. Not tonight.
—-
As the storm peals above, a bleary eyed Muku rises from her bed. This storm was loud enough to wake the dead. It was also stealing her pillow, Mmip. After such dreams, Muku needed all the comfort she could get.
She walks over the way and gently squeezes the ex-emergency ration from behind. “It’s quite scary, isn’t it? At least we don’t have to worry about being wet right now.”

Mmip climbs into Muku's arms, the cottony poof tickling under her chin and shedding some fluff onto the carpet. The Pokemon's expression cheered at being taken in and raised up from floor level. Tiny eyes blinked up at Muku, with a devil-may-care smile.
Xatu continued to rest quietly in the corner. Another distant peal of thunder, a beam of yellow light piercing the clouds in the distance. Muku recognized the noodle that had driven her to the ground before. Small black shapes swarmed it like flies, the hole in the clouds widening more and more as it launched attacks visible for dozens of miles.

Beam shots reflect in and out Muku’s lazy eyes, still bleary and exhausted from today’s generous excitement. Rain passing by the windowsill obscures the vision of black and white, of the shadows and dangers dancing in the night.
Certainly, she would be perhaps dreaming were it not for the all too sentient pillow she held tight in her grasp. This would be pretty late for a battle. Far too late for Starly. Maybe sky noodles worked on a different schedule?
She let out a low, sinking breath. Maybe she’d give it a second. That was the smart thing, right?
A moment of consideration occurs, and Muku hastily accepts the conclusion that she is not a smart person. She places three Pokeballs down aside Xatu; Rat, Hornise, and Whoopie Goldsire. Where she was going, she couldn’t afford them getting hurt.
Hastily, her hands quickly dress herself proper. Normal clothes. Her hands reach up to her dead comb of hair. No hat. Nor jacket. Those were in the place the humans called their ‘den’. She frowned momentarily, but this was no time to consider the silly way that they used words.
There is but one last single pause where Muku casts her eyes out the window once more. One last check, a final assurance there was still a fight to be flying off to.

The noodle has vanished beyond the clouds, as have the strange lights and small shapes in the sky. It would seem things are again at peace. Xatu stirs sleepily at the motion near it, but doesn't wake. Rat pops free of his ball and considers Muku, climbing up onto the bed. He grooms his whiskers, and his paunchy cheeks as a well fed businessman might stroke a beard.
"Rat?". He asks softly.

Muku thousand yard stares out the window. All quiet on the beeping front. Her head hangs. Great. Heart rate up and going; all adrenaline with no place to go. Not only that, she had also gone and woke up Rat. A grave crime indeed, for Rat liked sleep.
“Sorry Rat.” She apologizes quietly, scritching his ear attentively. “Just a little jittery because of the storm.”
Thunderous applause breaks out in the sky, signifying end of nothing. Rain would keep raining. Thunder keeps thundering. This would continue to happen whether she was awake or not.
Muku turns longingly back to her bed. She would be able to sleep after this excitement… Right?

Amidst flashes of thunder a small spot traverses the storm, nearing the northern beaches of Cianwood's island. It does not grow significantly in size as it approaches, but Muku distinctly sees it take a lightning strike, before a second bends violently away from it.
Rat yawns toothily, and Muku's bed is certainly there. It is still cold and wet outside.

A low, frustrated growl escapes Muku's throat. Things were still going on. Things she wasn't apart of. She rubs her eyes quickly, activating their hidden raptor powers. Squinting past the rain, her eyes attempted to draw a new kind of focus on just what the heck she was looking at. Birds? Bad birds? Good birds? She needed to know. Muku tries to look a little too hard and only rolls an 11

It is very red, and the wings look more like... large muscular arms? They also aren't flapping. They're more bulging. And against its sides. It continues towards the northern beach and out of sight.

A shiver runs down her spine. This wasn't something she was meant to see. This was a weird thing, an unnatural thing. She rapidly draws the blinds shut. This was one thing that didn't need more consideration. Not tonight. Hopefully not ever.
Muku quickly returns herself to her previous state. No more thoughts. No more dark hideous birds that shouldn't be. Only sleep.

Morning comes as gloomy as it has been for some weeks now. Rat sleeps heavily in a ball against Muku's middle, her dreams troubled by featherless birds that glide soundlessly without flapping their throbbing tumescent wings. Chuck and Miranda are in the kitchen, waking up with a bitter smelling drink that reminds Muku of Thel, and as requested, there are many eggs. With stuff added! Crunchy salty stuff, and potato-like stuff, and goopy stuff. Miranda calls it an omelet.

Egg. With other things inside of it? Her fork digs in through the yellow holding carapace, the sneaking goodies inside pouring out beneath the firm weight of her utensil. She does not particularly care of this surprise. Things should be the things they are; they should not be so secretive. What a silly human thing.
She is however enraptured by the presence of the bitter smelling liquid. "Hey. Hey. So, can I try that?" She askes, cocking her head to the side. "That seems good. I think. Maybe. What is it?"

Miranda and Chuck share a look and he shrugs. The woman smiles, and gets up to pour Muku a mug of the stuff. "It's called coffee, Muku. It contains things that help you wake up faster and give you energy, but if you make it a habit it will make your head hurt. Do you want it sweetened and watered down with some milk, or like that?"
Miranda places a half full mug of black liquid in front of the girl.

A tentative sip. Almost immediately, her tongue juts out from just how bitter this thing was. She was expecting it to taste a bit like Thel, but she wasn't expecting it to taste THAT much like Thel!
"Yeah, yeah. Nope. Maybe with the milk or the sugar or like the both of the two, but I don't know how you drink this otherwise."
Through narrowed eyes, she looks deep into the blackest pits of the cup once more. Well. It supposedly gave energy. Maybe that's why it had to taste so bad? Bad things often have to taste bad to hide the fact that they are good for you. In spite of her declaration, she forces herself to take another lil sip. If this was a powerful drink of warriors, then she would need to drink it, especially before this, the dawn of battle.

Miranda gently pulls the cup away from Muku, tops it up with milk and adds a not insignificant amount of sugar to it. So much so, that were one to give this to a friend or family member's children, it might spark a blood fued or violate some very serious laws regarding war crimes. When she returns it to the girl, it is much more mild, sweet with an undercurrent of bitter.

Muku drinks the cup. Ok. This was better. Not so much like Thel. Though Thel could be sweet too. Maybe? Her eyes scrunch from the consideration. How long had she actually known Thel? A week? No, longer. Much longer if she considered thei- Nope not thinking about that, just drinking the coffee. Existential dread and problems she didn't need to deal with right now could all be drowned away in a little ceramic mug in a little Chuck's house, in a little, small town which was being battered by the storm of the century.
Maybe of existence, depending on whether she beefed it or not with the thunder bird.
She drains the cup and resists the urge to slam it down. "Hoooo. Ok. I feel like I need to do one of those warm-up things you keep insisting on." Muku says mildly to Chuck. "This is- this is going to be a big day so- hey, actually. Have you seen Xatu? I'm not sure if I've seen him yet."

"If your mind was as sharp as your tongue we would have great reason to fear.". Xatu answered Muku as he walked into the room, rather then flew. Chuck turns his attention to literally anything else. Miranda gestures to the bird. "Seems he found you. Most polite wild houseguest we have ever had. Last one was a Kingler if I remember right... Made a nest under the porch."

Muku frowns more out of confusion than any true understanding of whatever the hell Xatu just said. Her tongue wasn't sharp. It was flat. And thick. And weird. She did not like her human tongue.
Side eying her bird friend, Muku turns to reply. "Yeah. He's a bit weird. I yelled at him once a lot because he was being rude. But Xatu is a good Pokémon who deserves good things. Today, he dies so I'm hoping that we can like... You know. Give him a good experience before all that."

"Muku... I get he's weird, and a little rude, but you aren't killing that bird are you?" Chuck asked with mild concern. Miranda seemed to have the same question on her mind but enough tact not to vocalize it. It was such a strange concept to know death was coming, and to accept it. Unheard of among the living. That little pang of a realization came to Muku from some place dark and distant that called to her. She reached for Talon's ball without meaning to and caught herself.
