No. Being infused with the DNA of a Ghost-type Pokemon, Mayu considers inexplicable spookiness to be normal. She makes her way to the Pokemon Center; presumably Faith doesn't need her help at this stage, but she may as well get Zeta healed while she's here. Besides...
"When you and your Pokemon have recuperated, I would like to battle."

Faith agrees. It's a minor request, and after Mayu helped her find her way out of the Forest Dungeon, how can she refuse? The both of you and your Pokemon are patched up in minutes, and head out to a battle arena out back.

Faith, being the amazingly patient person she is, does not blow up in Mayu's face. Instead, she calmly explains to her about the "unspoken" rules of engagement. While technically speaking, no standards for their fight were agreed upon formally, it is often expected that combatants will use the same number of Pokemon each. As an example: Faith has two Pokemon, Deino and Sigilyph. Mayu has shown to have at least three. By the "unspoken" rules, Mayu should have used no more than two, so as to keep the sides fair.
That being said, Faith is not that upset by it. Especially once she realizes that Mayu simply didn't understand. Clearly Mayu was instructed on the formal rules of engagement, but seems to lack in the social department. The very thing that is oft the most useful in determining 'unspoken' rules. To help Mayu, should she desire it, Faith offers her a short list of examples for "unspoken" rules; clarifying that some trainers may, in fact, mention them when determining how they will face a given opponent, but more often than not these are things that trainers simply "understand".
Examples include, but are not limited to: - Use no more Pokemon than your opponent has. The best way to do this is to send out one at a time to match theirs. - Limited or no use of items (e.g. potions, antidotes) in battle outside of Full-Contact matches. This is not just an unspoken rule, but a holdover from the 'original' League Rules. Back before trainer participation was even a thing.

"I am familiar with the latter custom." Since until recently, it wasn't a custom at all, but a rule she would have needed to know challenging the League. "The former is peculiar. Does that not incentivize devoting all of one's time and training to a single Pokemon? Normally that would be foolish, but if these 'unspoken rules' prohibit taking advantage of one's lack of numbers..."

"Of course that's not what it means. Even if you did that, there are some instances (like Gym Leader/League matches) where going in with only a single Pokemon will work against you." Faith does her best to explain.

"Then what is the point of the custom? Surely it would be better for practice matches to emulate the forms of a gym battle."

"Maybe, but it's just one of those 'fairness' things. Not everybody can afford to care for multiple Pokemon at once. For a prime example, look at those career Bug Catchers who are always hanging around Viridian Forest. Not all of them stick around just because they love Bug-Types. I bet that at least a few of them are washout trainers who can't afford anything else after losing big in the higher echelons." Faith continues. "It...it just boils down to 'playing fair'. In a casual battle, where the only thing at stake is a small amount of money, fairness is a big deal. Especially for younger or newbie trainers."

"I suppose. Thank you for informing me, in any case." Rules, according to Mayu's parents, are there to be broken, but only when you think you can get away with it; certainly not out of ignorance. It's sloppy. A vulnerability. She suspects it is not the only one her education has left her with. "Are there any other such conventions I should be aware of?"

Faith considers the question a minute, then shakes her head. "Nothing else comes to mind, no." She gets up from her seat, stretching out any stiffness before briefly turning back to Mayu and flashing a small smile at her. "It was nice meeting you, Mayu. Thank you again for escorting me out of the Forest. Hopefully I can avoid getting stuck in there again." With that, she begins to depart to continue her own journey.

"Indeed. Perhaps we will encounter one another again."
With that, Mayu heads north to the Viridian dungeon again.

... and returns not long after with some bruises and three unconscious Pokemon. Perhaps she ought to obtain some more before she ventures into the depths of the forest again; that was a narrow escape, and her previous encounter was little better. (True, she emerged victorious, but they were Wurmple.)
After visiting the Pokemon Center she heads south again, wandering off the path into the tall grass immediately. She'd like something more exotic than the usual Pidgeys and Rattatas that frequent the area. A Fire-type, perhaps. EQLOoQQR1d1001d100

Mission successful: Mayu returns to the Pokemon Center, and - as she waits for the newest addition to her team to be healed - inquires if there are any move tutors who offer services in Viridian.

There is...one person who can tutor moves currently in Viridian. However, this young woman is difficult to track down. Nurse Joy doesn't actually know where she stays while in town. The woman, "Mistress V" as most call her (due to having a difficult-to-pronounce name), very rarely offers her services. Money is not enough for her, or at least is not what she wants. Instead, she tends to ask those wishing to use her services as a move tutor to do special favors for her. Based on some of the stories told to Nurse Joy by those who sought her out, this 'Mistress V' has a tendency to deliberately try and frighten people.
Of course, if you would rather not try and seek her out (and nobody would blame you at all), there is a Gym-sanctioned tutor that is frequently available and doesn't ask for vague favors. However, they have a tendency to have a much more limited selection of moves they can teach.

"I see. Thank you for the information. Where can the Gym-sanctioned tutor be found?" Trading favors sounds tiresome and time-consuming.

Nurse Joy directs Mayu to try the Gym itself. As a member of the Pokemon Center staff, she is always kept up to date on when the Gym is open, and presently it is set to be open for the next several weeks. More than long enough for the fastest of this year's trainers to come through and make attempts to claim Leader Mei-Ling's badge. Regardless of that, when the Gym is open, the tutor is there. When it is closed, she is someplace else in the city. Thus, the tutor can be found in the Gym at present.

Mayu thanks the nurse perfunctorily, and leaves for the gym to inquire after tutoring services.
As it transpires, the tutor here can't help here, but he does recommend someone in Pewter who can. Mayu decides to go see him; there's no particular reason to favor Viridian over Pewter as her base of operations, she simply hasn't bothered to make the transition yet. Of course, the forest has proven... difficult... but maybe that silly UI she doesn't want to acknowledge will let her through more easily if she opts out of the dungeon (whatever that's supposed to mean).

In fact, the option does appear once again. This time, when electing not to enter the Forest Dungeon, the Viridian Forest before her doesn't change. It looks perfectly normal. Including the omnipresent Bug Catchers that area always about. There is also a distinct lack of the eerie silence that pervades the Dungeon. Normal background noises exist here as always.

Dark, quiet and eerie is about what she'd expect of a dungeon. Mayu strolls through the not-so-familiar forest, keeping an eye out for Grass-types or maybe a likely-looking trainer or two to crush along the way.

The rest of Viridian Forest is uneventful, and nobody really hangs out on Route 2, so there is only Pewter ahead now. Pewter, despite its name, has a helluva lot more color than most would expect. Black and purple banners are hung in various places around town, especially around the Gym. If asked, anyone will tell you that it is the colors of the Gym Leader's clan. Apparently they are originally from rural Johto and came here for...reasons. That vagueness would annoy Mayu, if she cared at all about the personal lives of gym leaders. Her first stop in town is the Pokecenter (as usual); her second stop is the Gym, where she inquires after the local tutor's services.

Mayu easily finds the tutor, who is more than happy to assist her.
