Miyako shrugs. "I dunno. You'd have to bring it up with them. All I know is: it's either this shitty arm..." she hefts it for emphasis "...or nothing."

Hmmm. This might put a damper on what she wants to ask, but we'll see later.
"So hows the work going? And what are you doing all day Aima? Hopefully not cooped up too much."

Aima spends plenty of time in the garden near the Bell Tower when she's not praying, meditating, or discussing philosophy with the monks. Miyako's community service is about what you'd expect: simple, tedious tasks to keep her busy.

Oh that's cool for Aima, and lame for Miyako.
"Neat! You'll have to show me the garden, if you can that is. Don't know if that's in the area I can't access, haha. But first, can Miyako and I have a moment to speak?"

Aima is certain the monks would allow her to see the outdoor garden if asked. When Victoria asks to speak with Miyako alone, the two exchange confused glances before Miyako shrugs and Aima politely excuses herself. Miyako looks at Victoria expectantly.

May and Kay also go off to the side to chat with Aima for a bit so the two can converse.
"Hey so I've been thinking about this for a while. I want to sponsor you and your work. I could set up a whole workshop on my ranch to get you away from the monks, and fund your work. What do you think?"

Miyako looks at Victoria strangely. "And what do you get out of this? You don't even know how much you'd be spending on my mechanical supplies."

She shrugs.
"I mean maybe if we did it and if you wanted to take clients in the future we could talk about doing that?"
She pauses.
"But really I've been thinking on it since last time, and I can really only think of one reason you would have agreed to go into Ilex in the first place..."
She glances over to Aima and then back.
"And I always feel like doing a lot of work deserves something at the end, and I know I felt that a bit when I beat that ghost in Ilex... So I can only imagine a person who spent so long guarding the area feels. So why don't I just 'be' your reward?"
The phrasing doesn't really register with Victoria at the moment.
"At the very least, I can see what cool shit you can do. You've led with a death laser, what else ya got?"

On 'potential future clients': "Ha! You say that as if you expect they'd let me do that! At best, I'd fully expect them to "hire" me to keep me all for themselves. It's how governments work. That much hasn't changed in the past century. They're just smarter about it these days."
Miyako merely quirks an eyebrow at Victoria's phrasing. She'll realize what she implied sooner or later. Probably.
On 'what other cool shit can you do?': "Honestly, that's probably the flashiest thing I can do. It's the culmination of half a century's worth of work with limited resources. Sure, if I had more reliable access to high-quality resources, I could probably build an arm-cannon that can withstand the forces exerted by that attack, but I'm not even sure these were meant to combine in this way." Miyako's words suggest that the "arm-cannon" is not the true source of that 'judgement cannon' blast she pulled before. Hmmm.

She makes a face at the first thing.
"Not sure if they can really just force you to do that..."
Victoria lights up when she mentions her lack of resources.
"Well see there you go! If I sponsored you, you'd have way better resources! You could do all sorts of stuff! And honestly, being a pokemon trainer means I shouldn't hold onto a lot of cash at once. Cause ya gotta bet portion of it. Sadly. So if I run around with a lot of money... I'm going to lose whole portions of it."
She giggles.
"It'll go better towards your goals, I think."

Miyako rolls her eyes. Again. Lot of that going around these days. "You sure they can't? Let me offer you a sample scenario: You have something really special. You are amazing at your work. The government catches wind of it and makes you a really generous-sounding offer. 'Come work for us,' they say. 'We can offer you practically anything you could ask for in relation to your work.' Sounds nice, doesn't it? So you decide 'what the hey, not likely to get a better offer from anyone else, and I certainly don't have the funds to go private.' You accept. You work on their dime, and even set your own hours because they really want you. After awhile, you have made enough money that you'd like to go private. Stop working for the government. Only, uh oh! Your contract stipulates that they own everything you've done. You can leave, sure, but if you do, you can't continue doing whatever it was they originally hired you for, because they own all the legalities. Yeah, sure, it was your idea, but ideas don't matter. They own everything relevant. You're stuck. Continue doing what you (used to) love, but under the government's thumb and never get more than passing credit for your ideas, or go it alone and struggle with resources and the logistics of it all." She stares Victoria down, as if daring her to find a flaw in her logic. All in all, it sounds like a really shitty way of doing stuff. Victoria thinks that, with the perhaps more lax/complex rules of owning/running a business in Kanto that they might get away with this, but surely not in Johto! Right?

Victoria rolls her eyes right back to add to it.
"Well yes. In that scenario you are correct, sure. But then your inviting the hungry Houndoom into your home, making a deal with it to stay, and then are surprised when it tries to eat you. Like of course less nice people are going to protect what they paid for. It's not right but that's what they'll do, sure."
She crosses her arms.
"But that's not this case... is it? Have they made that offer to you? No, but I have."
She beams once again.
"And I have zero interest in doing anything other than helping out a friend of mine."
Afterall, we are in 'my' world, and that world isn't so dark and cynical!
Vicky 'may' be buying more into the idea that she's the protag now.

Miyako harrumphs. "Sure. You say that now. What's to stop you from turning into the 'hungry Houndoom' as you so eloquently put it?"

"I mean we could write something down so I can't claim anything if you want. Doesn't matter to me!"
She beams.

Miyako's eyes narrow dangerously. "You really expect me to believe you're just a 'generous soul'? Humans aren't like that. It's in our nature to be selfish. So I'll ask again: What do you get out of this?"

Victoria's facial expression hardens a bit, as she looks back at Miyako.
"Yes. Yes I do expect you to believe that. I know what I am, Miyako. I may be one of the few outliers, sure. But I am here."
She sighs.
"Just... think about it. If you really want me to 'gain' something from the deal, then fine we'll figure something out. Otherwise I'm just a person that believes in people and want to help."
She shrugs.

Miyako clearly doesn't believe a word of it. She's waiting for the other shoe to drop, as it were. She scoffs and storms off. Though her face is hidden as always behind the sleeve of her kimono, Aima's brow furrows slightly. Her eyes briefly lock with Victoria's, silently questioning. It probably didn't help any that Miyako has never been one to lower her voice; if anything, she seems to believe she 'wins' or gets her point across better if she ensures that she is louder than the other person.

Victoria slumps her shoulders as Miyako huffs off.
Alright. I tried my best. All I can really do.
She walks back over to the group, with a funny look on her face.
"Anyway..."

Aima opts to say nothing; she knows Miyako is volatile, and was, after all, the only one close to shouting. Kay seems slightly dazed by the sheer amount of emotions radiating off of just their small group; or, well, specifically Miyako, Aima, and Victoria right now. May is just concerned.

She sighs.
"Don't worry about it guys. Just trying to be nice and Miyako doesn't believe me. I'll keep trying. Just won't be today."
She huffs and tries to refocus.
"Anyway! What are you all talking about?"
