The Carvanha thrashes a bit more wildly after being lifted from the water, but quickly realizes that it's not going anywhere while suspended in mid-air. It seems to have difficulty with breathing outside the water though...maybe put it back in?

It does try thrashing again, but Ruby's grip is strong enough that it can't turn around to bite her right now. All she needs to do is keep fingers away from snapping jaws and wait for it to tire itself out....oh look, it wore itself out. It sits there placidly, worn out from all its thrashing and the earlier fight.

Carvanha seems to "chew" on this thought for a time. At some point, it eventually comes to the conclusion that 'stronger = better', and 'Human = Stronger'. Guess that's the closest to acceptance Ruby is gonna get from the fish.
Carvanha is level 6, Female, Bashful, with Strong Jaw.

Now with a proper fishy on her side, it's time to return her attention to the mystery mon! Ruby sends the newly named Jaws to the depths to scout the area where the unknown Pokemon disappeared.

"Jaws" looks at Ruby funny for a moment, then gives the equivalent of a fishy-shrug and dips below the surface, swimming down and away. It's gone for several minutes...and then its unconscious and slightly twitching form floats to the surface. Apparently something attacked it...or it attacked something else and lost.

Ruby rushes over to both to take a better look and out of concern for it's wellbeing. After she realizes Jaws is only unconcious, her focus turns towards looking it over for clues.

Ruby gets the shiniest crown she has, ties it to a string, ties that string to a stick, and voila! A makeshift fishing pole! She then casts the line out to where the mon is hiding in the depths of the lake and proceeds to start lure fishing.

A random Ducklett from nearby flies over after seeing the splash and tries to nab Ruby's coin-on-a-string and fly away with it. Of course, it's not nearly strong enough to pull her, but it could still nab the coin if she's not careful!

Ducklett continues to flail around for awhile before realizing it can dip beneath the water to escape the spider web. Silly thing. It flies away quickly after that. Then, something tugs on the line! After yanking it back in, Ruby ends up with a startled Goldeen in her face. It smacks her with its tail fin then plops back into the water to swim away.

This is it. Ruby can just feel it. Nothing tugs on the line this time, but she can just make out the top of a head or something sticking up out of the water several meters away from where the line has settled. As soon as she looks, it drops under the water again. Doesn't seem like it went back to wherever it was hiding before, it's just shy. Oh hey, now it's off to the left!
