After that disastrous meeting with the-thing-of-pure-evil, Ruby gets splashed by a fun-loving otter-looking thing. It barks out a greeting and invites her to play by splashing some more before swimming rapidly a short distance. Seems the game is basically 'tag', but in water. You splash to 'tag', and then swim away.

Alright, shes not the best swimmer, but sure why not. Ruby splashes the Buizel and then swims as fast as she can.

Buizel, trying to accommodate Ruby's lack of swimming expertise (by comparison to a Water-Type Pokemon), swims just slow enough that Ruby has a good chance of escaping while not outpacing it entirely. It eventually jets past her, spraying her with water at the same time.

Buizel actually has to speed up quite a bit to try and keep ahead of the suddenly speedy Ruby. It inevitably fails, and the game continues on for some time.

Well, whatever was there for that briefest of instants was gone so quickly and quietly that had it not moved to disappear (likely beneath the surface), Ruby may not even have noticed its presence at all short of running into it. The only question is: what was it, and why did it leave before saying hello?

New Apricorn Balls acquired, Ruby dives back into the water. Her splashing around attracts attention (just as she wanted), but likely not the kind she was expecting.

Jetset is knocked back by the blow, but just barely manages to avoid becoming Carvanha chow. It responds with another of those sound blasts that the Carvanha seems to hate. Ruby follows her mother's advice: "If you try punching it, and it doesn't work, PUNCH IT TIL IT DOES!"
