A bit of irritation did show as Lowell stopped, turned with a frown and took a deep breath.
"Do you make it a habit of going through the forest with a fire-type out in the middle of vegetation, irritating Pokemon then following people? At least introduce yourself, It's not very polite otherwise"
Jamke seemed to be a little agitated and took a step forward, but stood down at Lowell's sign.
The bug-trainer ran a hand through his hair, dropping his hood in the process. The sunlight hurt his eyes a fair bit, but he'd rather not be talking about politeness without really showing his face.
"...and that wasn't really polite either. In my defense, I am very annoyed right about now. I'm Lowell, and I may answer the rest after I get a name"

Maeve smiles back at the now introduced Lowell. "You're absolutely right; how rude of me. Please allow me to start again." Maeve keeps her gaze directed at Lowell to show her sincerity. The last thing she needed was for him to think she was being facetious. "My name is Maeve, and I apologize once more for the circumstance that lead to this."
Keeping her gaze upon Lowell allows her to notice him wince in the sunlight. "If you want, we can move back into the shade before continuing. I'd rather not make you even more uncomfortable."

Satisfied, Lowell just pulled his hood back up a bit so that the sunlight wouldn't hit his eyes as much.
"Might as well just walk, honestly. 'sides, time's a-wastin' and I have probably other messes to get into. What was it that you wanted to know again?"

"Depends on where you're walking," Maeve replies, still smiling politely. "If it's back to Saffron City, I'd prefer if we just talked here. Like I said before, I'm out here looking for some berry trees a Weepinbell told me about, and you're more than welcome to join me. I owe you, and I repay my debts. But I also promised that Weepinbell that I'd bring him back a berry or two as thanks. So if you are planning to go back to town, I'd prefer if we could take a second to talk here instead, or meet up again later." Maeve pauses for a moment to allow Lowell to respond.

"Might be going to Saffron, might be just looking for more Pokemon. I still haven't decided, I just like moving. Dynamism affects the mindset, and it's always good to keep the blood flowing, y'know?"
Lowell gave a very sloppy shrug before aboutfacing and starting his walk back towards the vegetation.
"Berries sound like a fair plan, honestly. Though what is it with all the psychics in this town, I swear"

"So I'm guessing you're not one then," Maeve replies. "Then again, neither am I. So I was wondering how come you were trying to negotiate with that Drapion, and whether or not you could understand him."

"Love, I don't care what fancy names you call it. Talking to Pokemon to the point of a hanging drooling carnivorous flower asking you for a berry is Psychic powers. The fact that you can only use them to talk to Pokemon and not to fling the landscape around does not change that"
Jamke still looked at Maeve with an amount of skepticism. Let it be known that the fossil Pokemon did not like psychics one bit.
"And no, I'm certainly not a psychic. I didn't understand words, or anything similar. I'm just very good at reading Pokemon behaviour and tuning my own as needed"

"Actually, he didn't ask me for anything. I just promised after he told me there were some out this way. And as for how it works..." Maeve turns to look at the Armaldo. "It's nice to meet you, Armaldo. May I ask your name, and is there anything you ever wanted to tell Lowell?"

Jamke clicked in irritation at the foreign action. Lowell was very pissed now, to the point of his normal reluctance to just get into a fight being way overcome. He triggered his pokeball and recalled Jamke before stepping into Maeve's space and striking out a backhand. Despite the surprise nature of Lowell's attack, Maeve responds just in time, sidestepping out of the way. Her polite grin fades for a moment as her clan's training nearly kicks in; instead of responding in kind, however, she takes an additional step back. "Oh dear," she says, her polite smile returning to her lips. "I'm sorry. I should have thought that through more and explained first."Maeve Disengages and attempts to restart discussion, but is ready to use an AoO if Lowell tries to slap/punch/kick her again.

Lowell did not press on, but had a hard frown on his face and crossed his arms.
"I don't care about what you do, or how you do it, or what your intentions would have been. You decided to randomly do some hocus-pocus at my very irritated pokemon because of some strange reason that I cannot even begin to fathom, without asking if it was okay. Just like 'oh, watch this'. Are you mad? Do you have no sense of personal space and respect for other trainers? Is that it?"

Maeve takes a deep breath; if she were to get riled up, communications would break down completely, and the last thing she needed was to start a fight. "You're absolutely right; I need to slow down and speak before acting. To think I'm acting so childish. I'm sorry." Maeve gives a polite bow to Lowell. As she rights herself, Maeve keeps her hands at her sides.
"So to explain," Maeve begins, "I don't fully understand how it works either; go back a month or two and I was just like everyone else, hearing the pokémon speak around me and having to use contextual clues and my experience with them to figure out what they were trying to tell me. Then, one morning, I suddenly realized that I could understand what my Flygon was saying after waking up. At first, it was just my Flygon, but slowly I found myself understanding pretty much any pokémon around me if I focused on it.
"I still hear the same thing everyone else does, the same cries, shrieks, and clicks. It's just that now, if I'm paying attention, I seemingly translate it in my head. Heh, when I put it like that, I guess it does sound like I'm some sort of psychic, doesn't it?" Maeve looks Lowell right in the eyes. "I'm really sorry for acting without asking first. I'd love it if I could also apologize to your Armaldo some time, if that's okay with you. If not, then please let him know for me."
With her long-winded explanation finished, Maeve regains her sense of direction. "Now then, from what I was told, the berry trees should be nearby in that direction. Would you like to come with me? If not, I understand," she says in an assuring tone.

"Pokemon do not talk using what we understand as language. It is more body language and key sounds. Heck, a significant amount of bug types communicate through pheromones, not even sounds. Therefore whatever you're doing must be plucking thoughts and converting them into words and, therefore, you are psychic" Lowell said with absolute certainty.
There was a chance that the girl was some unique case and went beyond Pokemon biology somehow, but he doubted it.
"Regardless of how you do it and it just equating to chatter, you've got to stop just using it like that. You're cutting off trainers to have secret conversations with their Pokemon through what has got to be some kind of mind link. As far as I understand, secret conversations in someone else's presence are very impolite. Oh, and I can understand my Pokemon just fine without psychic chatter, thank you"
Lowell wasn't outright hostile, but still very wary.
"I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but at the rate you were going I'm honestly a little concerned you're also going to poach an Occa berry from my pile of berries and give me a Rawst without asking if I wanted the trade"

"Hmm...you have a good point. Perhaps there's more to it than I've figured out. Not sure about the psychic connections, but definitely a possibility to look into."Maeve's smile widens a bit upon hearing Lowell choose to join her. "I promise not to touch any of your berries without your expressed permission or instruction." With all of this sorted out, Maeve begins walking, keeping an eye out for anything interesting as she searches for the berry trees. "My earlier question still stands, by the way. Why were you negotiating with that Drapion?"Perception: |Y_WtJrc6d6 Survival: 2d6 6d6·2d6

Once he was back in Saffron, Lowell made his way to one of the normal trainer stomping grounds to look for some matches and burn off steam.

Lowell finds a shady-looking individual hanging out near the back of one of the public battle arenas in Saffron. (Camouflage will be Normal Type)
Startled by your approach for some reason, they attempt to deflect any suspicion with a 2v2 battle challenge.
They open with a Growlithe.
