"I'm fine. Sorry, I am just not used to being in places like this. I've spent my whole life eating simply prepared foods, and this is a bit of a new experience."
That was a lie. He had never been out to dinner, it was true, but that wasn't why he was nervous. The specific area was that he had never been out to dinner with a person like her before. He wasn't sure if he had romantic feelings or protective feelings of another sort, but whatever this was, he was not sure how to react to being to a restaurant like this with her.

"Well, alright," she says, not looking entirely convinced, "If you insist. I just want to make sure that you're okay..." Then she smiles. "To be perfectly frank, I haven't done that much eating out myself. It's mostly been homecooked meals, or enjoying nature's bounty."

Braxton smiled, "Definitely alright.
As I said, I have done my fair share of hunting for nature's bounty, and when I was back home, it was mostly working in order to feed my family, but what can you do?
So, what is the plan from here? Do we stay in Godspring or search elsewhere for your family?"

"Uh..." she stutters, "If it's all right with you, I'd... I'd kind of like to stay here for a bit. I...I don't have any idea where to start looking now, either. Supposedly he's here, but I...just don't know. But..uh, besides the whole 'fighting' thing... I've enjoyed the past few days. I'd like to try...try and enjoy at least a few more." By the end of this conversation, she's rather red, contrasting with her blue eyes and hair.

Braxton leaned back in his chair and inhaled the fragrances of the surrounding plant life in a deep sigh, "Now it looks like you are the one I should be checking is alright. If I didn't know better, I would say I have begun to read auras too now."
He offered a smile, "There is no rush. I am always going to keep an eye out for traces of my father, and I guess they're as likely to pop up here as elsewhere. If you want to stay for a bit, I am not going to stop you. Besides, I've enjoyed the past few days too."

"Well..." she says, chuckling, "I don't know if you'd need to have the Sight to see that. It's just that I'm worried for my brother. I know that he can take care of himself, arguably much better than I can... It's just...natural to worry about family, I guess."

Braxton nodded. Honestly, he felt a bit guilty about leaving his mother. He knew she could take care of herself, and he had left a lot of people behind to watch from the sidelines in case she ever needed help, but he did essentially abandon her for his "quest."
"I know you feel that way. We will find him alright? I have complete faith in you. Pretty sure you know deep down that it will turn out alright. You are the most optimistic person I think I've ever met.
Let's change the subject eh? Lighten the mood. What was it like growing up? What were your parents like?"

"Growing up?" She asks, thinking, "Well, I can say that it was...eventful. Runecircle is an...odd town. You never know what's going to happen, who you're going to meet. Especially since there's a lot of temporary people, looking for answers, power, or just...a bit crazy sometimes. Most people there are nice if you get to know them. But it meant I really never had any real friends for the longest time. Most of the people I go to know, and who taught me the ways of the world...I never saw again. As for my parents? Well... my mom's a nice lady, even if she was never really around. She spent more time out and about, rather than spending time with us, so I never really got to know her well. I don't know where she is, or what she's doing now, but I hope she's doing alright for herself." She takes a deep breath, and seems to ave a hard time getting the next words out. "My father... well, he died before I was born. Apparently he was a...a right piece of work, though. Almost...almost killed my mother one time. So, I don't feel too bad not knowing him." After finishing, she just stares at the table, silent.

Braxton paused. He sat in silence with her for a time. When he finally spoke, he tried to choose his words carefully. "It mustn't have been easy for you. At leas, though, you had somebody to support you through all of that, and in the end a pretty incredible person seems to have come out of it. You are such a sympathetic and caring person, and I am sure each of those people feels equally touched, just for having met you. As to your parents... well you never get to choose family I suppose. Regardless of anything, they have a son and daughter they should be proud of.
Perhaps it wasn't the best choice of conversation though." Braxton smiled to her, "I really am very new at this. Most of my relationships with people have been mostly out of necessity, and small talk never really entered into it. I'm afraid I don't really know what I am doing."

"Thank you," she says at last, giving him a small smile, "That means a lot." "And does anyone really know what they're doing? Really?" As she finishes, the server appears, returning with not just drinks, but the meals too. "Er, I hope I'm not interrupting anyhting. Anyways, here's your food, when you're done you can just come up to the front counter and pay there. Enjoy."

Braxton sat back, "I guess not." Braxton sat back when the food came.
Raising a glass, he offered it out, "Let's make a toast then. To not knowing what we're doing, but enjoying it anyway?"

"I guess that works," she says, cracking a small smile, and raising her glass "To not knowing what the Void we're doing... And to us. Whatever that may be..." The glasses make a lovely chime as they clink together.

Braxton didn't quite catch the last part, but clinked glasses anyway and took a sip of his water. Looking down at his food, he saw three skewers lined up on a bed of some sort of puréed root vegetable. The meat was heavily seasoned, and appeared a deep red colour. The plate was garnished with a few sprigs of aromatic herbs and a tart Apicot Berry coulis. As he cut into the meat, the juices flowed into the plate and were absorbed by the purée. He carefully poured a small amount of the Jus from its vessel onto the plate and dipped the meat in. He dabbed it into the coulis before popping it in his mouth.
The flavours were incredible. There was a definite heat to it. It tasted slightly of Liechi or Spelon, but that was balanced wonderfully by the Apicot, which left Braxton's mouth feeling warm, but not unbearably hot. He smiled, it was probably one of the tastiest bites he had ever had in terms of flavour complexity.
"This is wonderful. How is yours?"

"Excellent, thank you." she says, nodding, while taking small bites. "I particularly enjoy the Yache juice. The colder it's stored, the warmer it feels once it reaches your stomach. It truly is a miraculous plant."

Braxton nodded slowly as he continued to eat. "That seems very peculiar. I can't say I've ever tried it. Oran has always been one of my favourites, but I typically ate them, instead of drinking them." He laughed, "It was actually over an Oran berry that Ruairidh and I became friends."

"Oh?" she asks, "That must be an interesting story, bonding over a berry."

Braxton spent the next few minutes telling the story of how he met Ruairidh and Blaire, being careful to hide giving too much about the extent of his impoverished upbringing.
"I guess it's funny how the most commonplace thing could lead to a friendship like this. I mean, without your necklace going missing you would never have met Cyrus, and I bet you he will become a huge part of your life now, as Blaire and Ruairidh have become for me."

"Yeah, I guess you're right," she says, nodding. "Every cloud will, somewhere, somehow, have a silver lining. And it's good to see that you found your cloud to be mostly silver."

Braxton laughed, "I definitely wouldn't say mostly silver, I've just found some friends along the way.
Right want to play a game?"
