Braxton nodded, "I suppose that you could be right. Have you always been able to see auras, or did it develop?
I am sorry if my aura has upset you. I am mostly disappointed in my fruitless search for my father. I thought I could find something up here but apparently not.
I am not upset with you. Worry not. And I am glad that you can trust me.
You do not need to fight, merely to take care of yourself. You do not need to be so much like me. I can be perhaps overzealous at times, but I fight for a good cause. You work towards just ends in your own way I would imagine, but if somebody who is vile attempts to hurt you, even a basic grasp of self defence can allow you to continue doing your work in the world, for it would surely be darker without you in it."
He stopped in his tracks. "I have no idea what to do from here on out. My only guess was that I might find something about him here. Now that I can't, I wonder if I will ever find more information. Until I find a lead though, I do no see much point in returning home now that I have travelled all this way. If you would not mind a companion, I could help you find your brother, though you'll have to put up with this ugly mug for a while longer if you agree." He smiled.

"Well, I could for as long as I can remember. So, presumably I always have."
"No, no, it hasn't upset me. I know that what it is now is not what it usually is." She puts a hand on his shoulder, and gives him a smile. "It is usually a strong, clear, aura. You have good intentions, Braxton, I can see that."
"I understand. Finding nothing but dead ends, it is disappointing. But sometimes, you just manage to stumble upon the thread that takes you to your destiny. Just think, I found you that way." She laughs. "And your face isn't that bad. You're just self-critical. I'd love to have you along."

Braxton smiled again. "Just make sure you give me a heads up if you notice any dodgy activity. Need to be alert for this. Anyway, I am sorry for dragging you out here, but I had a thought. The food back at the centre isn't exactly the best, and I thought we could celebrate a bit. I noticed a place that imports fresh veg from the farms of Windplains, From what I've heard, the food there is phenomenal, though hard to come by local. Something about wind and soil not being great together. Anyway, it looks like it might be pretty good for some variety, and if I remember you had an old storyteller friend from there, so you might be able to recommend a local dish. Thought it might be up your alley? My treat, as a celebration for finding the pendant."

"Yeah, that sounds good," she says. "But, are you sure? I wouldn't want you to pay out of pocket for me. The Center food isn't all that terrible."

Braxton gave her a wary look, "It has been so long since I've even considered eating dessert. I am really craving some tonight, please don't make me face another one of those... things." He laughed. "Anyway, I'm happy to do it. Shall we?"

She gives a little chuckle at the mention of the...well, you could charitably call it 'food'. "I guess you've got a point," she says, trying to repress a snicker at the memory.
The restaurant itself is a fairly small, pleasant - if empty - open air place, with many plants that are clearly not native to the area. Although, on closer inspection, the plants don't seem to be doing as well as they did on first glance. Probably a combination of the hot weather and the increasing scarcity of water. Lillian lightens at the sight of it, and breathes in the smell of the 'foreign' plants. "Ahhhhhh... It's perfect. That smells just like Windplains." The host seems relieved to just have someone in the restaurant.
At the table, she asks, "What do you think? The Ocean Salted Salad? Authentic Soup a la Breezeway? Something else?"

Braxton studied the menu, trying to decide what he would like. He saw a few exotic looking dishes.... "Well.. I'm not completely sure what to expect. I've never had Windplains cuisine before. There is a spicy grilled Unfezant skewer appetiser that is served with fresh vegetables and a red whine jus... I'll be honest, I might not be sure what half of it is, but I think I might try that.
As to mains, there is a Bouffalant stew that looks nice... I don't know, you know the food better than I do likely, anything you suggest?"
Braxton let his eyes dart around. Though it was true that the foliage did not have the same lustre that it likely did in its natural habitat, there was no doubting that it was beautiful. There were many shades of reds, greens, and yellows darting around, tracing up the leaves, with hues of blue and purple on petals of fresh flowers that sat at every table. The sun was just setting now, and Braxton couldn't help but admire even the fading beauty of this scene, especially in the soft glow of the dying sun.

"Heh, I read auras, not stomachs," she says, smiling. "Just go with what your gut tells you. Uh, unless you're allergic to something. Then you might want to ask me what to avoid. And the chef..."

Braxton laughed,"Fair enough." He awaited a server to come to the table to take their orders.
"So, quite the day today? I am proud of you for sticking around, so you know."

"Wait..." she says, with a puzzled look on her face, "You're proud of...me? Why's that? I didn't do anything... I was almost worse than useless."

Braxton shrugged. "Many people in your position would have turned and run from day one. You were willing to stick around and put in the hard work. Your bravery is commendable. Not many people could even look at Kelly and her pokemon attacking somebody and not flee. You may not have fought her yourself, but you did very well today, believe you, me."

"I'm not...I'm not brave..." she says, quieter, almost whispering. "I've run before. I'm not proud of it, but... I have. And I swore, I wouldn't abandon people I care about again..." The last bit is almost imperceptible.

Braxton's smile fell slightly. He reached over and placed one hand over hers as they lay folded in front of her.
"There is no shame in running. I... you shouldn't feel bad about fleeing. Nobody benefits if you get hurt. I couldn't live with myself if you had gotten hurt. I have a tendency to try and protect those that I care for, so you better watch out alright?" He offered her a weak smile as his hand clasped around hers.

"I should watch out?" she asks, with a hint of teasing and lighter mood, "You think I'm going to hurt someone you care about?"

Braxton laughed, "Well rate you're going, you seem bound to hurt yourself... so I guess yes?
Anyway, what were you looking at getting?"

"I...ah, think just the salad." she says, a bit flushed, and glad at the change of topic. "If the berries here are as good as they are there, then I think it'll be a good choice. Er, ah, what about you?"

Braxton nodded, trying desperately to will the blood that had found itself rushed to his cheeks away. "You seem to quite enjoy salad it would seem. I think I will start with the skewer."
Braxton sat back in his chair and waited for his server.

"Ah, excellent, sir, madam," the server sais, coming over almost as soon as Braxton began waiting. He'd probably been keeping an eye on them seeing as how empty the place was. "It appears as if you are ready to order. What can I get for you today?"
"Uh...ah... I'll just have the berry salad please, with a glass of...uh, Yache juice, please."

Braxton smiled at the gentleman, "I would like to try the skewers please. Oh, and just a water, if that's alright.
When the server left, Braxton turned back to the blue-haired woman in front of him. His heart kept beating hard. He didn't know why, but he felt nervous.
"You seem to enjoy salads," he repeated again unwittingly, Did you pick that up from anywhere you were travelling, or has it just been your whole life?"

"Ah, very good, I shall return with your beverages shortly," he says.
"Salads?" she asks, a little puzzled, "I don't know if I picked it up from anywhere in particular. I just like the taste of fresh greens... and blues, oranges, yellows... Are you feeling all right?" she asks, a little concerned.
