Mysteriously, the small group seems to freeze in time for almost a whole five minutes. When they come to, they all briefly return to their dorms to collect their belongings for a trip up to Cerulean...only to realize that mission details are sparse. Seeing as it is an A-ranked mission, talking to one of the Branch Leaders is probably a good idea. Genevieve happily provides the group of teens with all the information they have available.
- Attacks seem to happen right around dusk, when human vision is lacking. Due to this, nobody has gotten a clear look at their assailants, only that there are often multiple. - There have been no human casualties from these attacks, but they are steadily growing in frequency and viciousness. - Description of the injuries: long, jagged slashes in non-vital areas, usually around waist-height on an average human. - The attackers strike swiftly from the tall grass, then seem to vanish with no trace of their presence beyond the wounds they inflict.
The group has two options: Head to Cerulean now, at midday, and reach it in just a couple of hours, or delay the journey slightly so they can be on the road around dusk, and possibly trigger an attack in place of a civilian. As members of the Adventurer's Guild, and having several Pokemon between them, they should be more than able to handle any ambush by wild Pokemon, no matter how cunning or ferocious.

"Somethin's weird about this," Brooke pronounces upon hearing the details. "The attacks seem like pretty typical pack hunter behavior, except they're not following up - they oughta be shadowing injured prey, waiting for them to bleed out or at least weaken before moving in again. There's no point in injuring something and then just running away... unless they were hoping to kill something in the initial attack and gave up when that didn't work, but I don't buy that they keep messing up the same way. They're too good at the hit-and-run part to slip up like that more than once." She frowns. "Unless they do succeed sometimes, but we don't hear about it 'cos nobody lived to tell the story. Have you heard anything about disappearances in Cerulean, miz Genevieve?"

Genevieve can offer no further official information, but she speculates that something may be driving these Pokemon to lash out, thus the ever-increasing frequency of attacks. As far as Genevieve (and the Guild) are aware, they are no reported disappearances from the affected area, which, as the mission request stated, seems limited specifically to Route 2.

"In that case, I say we take a couple of hours to stock up on supplies, then head out and play bait for whatever this is. How about it?" Brooke looks to Leon and Yue.

"That sounds like the best plan we have, better they run into people who are used to a fight then people just trying to travel to Cerulean" Leon said figuring it would be better to play the bait then wait for somebody less prepared get attacked.

"Good. In that case, we'll meet up back here in two hours; everyone be ready to go then. I'm gonna go stock up on supplies, maybe get a bit of practice in if there's time."

Leon nodded "Sounds good to me," he said heading out into the city to collect supplies and do a bit of training with his pokemon to get them ready for the trip.

A few hours later, everyone returns to the meeting point, stocked up and ready to go. If the group has any last-minute preparations, now's the time.

Yue is practically bouncing up and down. "Yay! Adventure~ Adventure~ We're goin' on and adventure~" She sings, clearly excited to be going out exploring.

With any and all last-minute preparations finished, the group moves out. Within a couple of hours, they find themselves on Route 2, nearing Cerulean. There is roughly an hour's travel time remaining before they reach the village in question. Just as they begin to think that nothing is happening tonight, there is very faint rustling from the tall grass.

"Ooooh! What's that?" Yue asks, running over to it while Bubbles facepalms behind her.

"Yue, don't - " Brooke begins, nocking an arrow, and then gives up. "Snug, keep close to her," she orders her Lickitung.

Leon threw out Rex "Hey boy can you smell anything out there?" the young man asked pointing toward the rustling grass watching it intently, ready to transform if the group needed Leanne's full power.

With the last of the Zangoose finally down, a battered and weary Brooke gets out her first aid kit and sets about the business of getting Yue and Leanna back on their feet. "C'mon, up and at 'em, missy. I reckon we got the pack leader over there, but I don't fancy spending the night out here with our Pokemon in this state. Let's get to Cerulean, then we can have a good night's sleep."

Leanne was stirred awake by Brooke's treatment as she sat up looking around "Jeezey petes there were a lot of these guys, why were they so mad? For a pack this large to just start attacking people, something must have set them off," she said taking a look over the many unconscious Zangoose trying to find some sign of what caused them to suddenly jump the group and in the numbers they did.

"Hell if I know. Might be they just moved in and they're territorial? It's a big pack, they might think they can get away with that. Or maybe somebody did something to piss 'em off." Brooke thinks for a moment. "We could haul one of them into town with us, have one of our Psychic-types talk to it when it wakes up?"

Leanne nodded "That could work or we could try waking one up and have Clefairy talk to them, she might be able to figure out what set them off," she suggested figuring that Clefairy could act as a translator, but also wasn't too sure of that plan, worried about what the Zangoose would do when it got back up.

Yue looks around to the scattered Zangoose bodies. "You know...In hidsight, maybe we should have thought to bring something to transport these guys with..."

"We don't need to take 'em all. Just bring one with us." Brooke considers. "Or we could wake one up here with a potion right here and now, I guess. Might be less spooked that way, and I don't think they'd make trouble if it's just the one."
