It was a relatively quick and painless procedure to get Stag registered to carry Pokemon, though she lacked the patience to get through the paperwork once slowly. After headbutting a console in frustration and nearly cracking the screen, the paper pusher behind the desk settled for asking her questions and using the touch screen for her.
With six empty Pokeballs, and her shiny new laminated license stuffed in a pocket, she squinted up at the evening sun. It had been a few hours since the bone-in meat, but everything was ready.
"Well... Daylights wasting."

There was relief in knowing that there were people to help them get Stag registered as a trainer, she didn't think she could have handled trying to do that herself. Staying out of the way she would be chewing on a new toothpick from the restaurant. Since they really didn't want her to take their bones, for whatever reason.
A look up towards the sky, she would then turn her attention back to the taller. "So, do you have any idea what kind of pokemon you would want as your first team member?" Terra asks curiously. That would give them a better idea of where to go. "Doesn't have to be a specific pokemon. A type would be enough. Unless you just want to see what's out there."

Stag scratched her head and thought on it. "I'd like something really sturdy, strong too! Not squishy like the fish you find around here, or crunchy and frail like birds. It definitely has to work well with a team. None of that's very specific though.". She shrugged and laughed.
"I'm good to just follow you and see what happens."
(Nearby, Terra has; The Abandoned Daycare Center [Normal], Radio Tower [Steel], and The Hive [Bug], as well as the National Park, the route North, the route south, the ocean west, and the forest south. These will be night encounters after the first.)

Terra gave a few nods while she listened. It really wasn't that specific indeed, hard to try and pin something out of that. However she couldn't blame her, wanting a solid pokemon was definitely understandable.
That addition had her pull out her pokedex to not only show Stag some of the pokemon she had encountered but to give her a little time to think, on which direction to go. Ocean was right out, she didn't trust it currently.
Short stop at the shop to buy pokeballs and she was prepared, backpack settled over her shoulder. "I think... I'd like going to The Hive." She states with a nod to her companion with a decisiveness in her tone.

"Guess that saves me a trip. Home it is.". Stag rolled out her shoulders and set a liesurely pace north.
"So I guess the biggest difference between us and everyone else is being task oriented?". Stag explained as they moved off the trail and into the wilds, past signs that warned of the dangers of going too far afield. "There are gatherers to bring food back, builders to make places to rest, wardens to look after grubs and pods. The older pods become sentries and keep a look out for enemies of the hive, and alert the wardens and soldiers. Above all of us is Mom. She just sort of organizes everything and has kids. She shapes the way the hive grows."
Through the woods as they went, Terra spied a strange looking tawny mammal with horseshoe shaped antlers, and the odd looking sapling. Her practiced eye identifying it as rock instead of wood.

With Stag leading the way towards her home, Terra would listen to her describe what it was like at The Hive. "Very different from what I ended up used to for sure," she replies contemplating it. "It was pretty much just me. Though having to worry about intruders wasn't as bad once I made it clear it was my territory," she explained.
The first pokemon was a neat sight, then when she saw it, making a note for later to look for. The rock imitating plant life confused her for sure, the expression showing she wasn't too sure on how to feel about it. "You've got some interesting pokemon around here," she comments. "Do you want to hunt for a pokemon first or visit your home?"

"....Ehhhhh.". Stag considers the tree cover a moment. Picking a tree, she gives it a couple raps of her knuckles. Squaring off, she headbutts the tree fiercely, shaking it from roots to boughs.
Several birds clear the foliage and take to the sky. The girl wrinkles her nose. "Nah, you want to poke around here?". One of the stone trees wiggled questionably at the edge of Terra's vision.

The response gets an understanding nod. After all the statement about not wanting birds earlier was still fresh.
"Fair enough, might take a little peek around, just in case something that's not bird is around," Terra replies. Before noticing the wriggling once again. A hard look shot towards it, as she looks at the creature. "What is with this? They keep wiggling, its distracting," she comments pointing directly at the fake tree and walking towards it. Not a convincing fake to her! A hand withdrawing her pokedex and aiming it at the 'tree'. It was Weird.

"Sudowoodo, the Imitation Pokemon. If a branch moves and there is no wind, it's not a tree, it's a Sudowoodo. It disappears when it rains." The Pokedex announces firmly, listing the creature as a rock-type. As if knowing it's been ousted, the Pokemon slowly opens an eye and scans the immediate area. It straightens and goes back to pretending when it sees Terra watching it.
"Oh, those things. These woods aren't really rife with them, but they're common enough to be annoying when one of the foragers comes back shivering and on about 'trees that throw rocks and have no leaves to eat'. It's usually the young ones, but they get it after it's explained."

"Definitely kinda weird," Terra comments under her breath at the pokedex's information. Then seeing that the pokemon knew that it had been seen and was trying to pretend without doing anything else, she shakes her head at it. That didn't seem like a smart choice to her.
"I guess it would be pretty startling for a young one," she muses with a tilt of her head, turning her back on the Sudowoodo. Refocus on what they were here for. The hunt for some pokemon that could be good additions to their teams. She would begin to take a serious search around to find something that could match the vague description of what they were wanting. No birds, and no Sudowoodo.

Singing catches the duo as they wander, intermittently punctuated by a soft snoring. Rounding one of the larger trees, they find a brightly colored bird with a musical note for a head, settled on a branch above where a heavily muscled dog with massively oversized fangs. The entire creature is a pale shade of purplish gray, and does not seem to at all mind the fourth chorus of "Hello My Baby".
Behind the bird, creeping through the branches towards it, is a sly looking purple feline with a feel of menace and foul play about it, stalking the little Tweety bird predatorally.

Singing? Out here? Definitely brought Terra's attention to the source. Was that a pokemon, using actual words?! She hadn't seen that before. After a bit of staring she would shift her attention to the rest of the area. To the canine pokemon she noticed that it was still sleeping. Impressive she had to admit. It takes a moment of Terra watching the singing bird with a curious tilt of her head. But she does catch sight of the stalking cat. There's a short internal debate of what to do, before she decides to intervene. The girl releases her hammer, leaving it by Stag's side, before suddenly dashing in. Body crashing through branches and slamming into the feline. Tumbling she goes to give it a good pin to the ground. Grapple: 19 vs 4AC Combat check: 24

The cat lets out a surprised scream as Terra's weight bears down on it, flailing and thrashing about. The multi-colored bird throws out a mix of encouragement and disparaging remarks seemingly at random. The hound wakes, gets up on two legs and stalks towards the grapple pile that is Terra and the cat, shoulders square, pace deliberate. It settles for barking and circling the two, throwing the feline into panicked fits.
(A pin keeps Terra safe from cat claws.)

After all the practice in the short past, Terra has a much better handle at controlling a tussle with a pokemon without attacking. Her goal wasn't to really hurt the feline. Just keep it pinned for a little bit of time. The cat should have been better hidden, a small lesson.
At first she eyes the purple-y, pink-ish pokemon when it starts circling. A frustrated sound being made when it chooses to bark and cause the pinned mon to panic. "Hey! That isn't helping." She tells the dog in a stern voice. Not appreciating the 'help' that it was providing. A shift in her position to make sure that she stayed safe from the claws.

When Terra raises her voice over the barking, the hound takes a step back and licks his chops, folding arms across his chest and looking mix of offended and satisfied.
"Gettem! Get dat bad ol puddy!". The Chatot whistles from above, instructing Terra.

At least the dog stopped, which made it easier for her to reposition herself and the cat. A turn to face the cat the opposite direction. "You need to work on your stealth," she tells it before adding "Try again later." Her hands moving to give a firm push on the cat away from her, forward to leave the area.

One more firm BOOF to send the cat scurrying, and the dog gave a satisfied snort to "Who's a good boy! A good boy!". From the bird. He gives a stretch and reclines back where he'd been where all this business started, giving Terra a relaxed, indifferent stare.

Once she watches the cat disappear back into the branches. The sound of the bird praise the other has her turn her attention back to the two. "He didn't do that much," Terra points out to the bird matter-of-fact statement.
Before looking to the dog that had gotten pretty comfy once more. "I wouldn't put much weight in that praise. They weren't even paying attention," she tells him with a point over her shoulder towards the bird.

"Ain't much, but it's all we got." The bird replied in a gravelly masculine tenor with hints of a faint buzzing whine of an old electronic speaker. The hound nods his agreement and folds his arms across his chest obstinately.

"And what if the day comes where it ain't enough? Like say your friend isn't here?" Terra questions honestly motioning to the stubborn looking canine with one hand. "Doesn't really seem like the best way to be prepared," she mentions sounding a bit unconvinced about their confidence in their methods.
