Sentinel once again tries to strike at the stickibat that's dealing most of the damage on his team but, as before, one of its companions jumps ahead to prevent it. This time, the jeguiron shifts suddenly, turning its back to Kasai to shove Volt away from the green energy. Kasai tries to do a quick swipe as the steel pokémon's focus changes, but Asino sees it coming and leaps in time, perfectly intercepting the attack. The green energy is dismissed as it touches the metallic skin, barely causing damage. Meanwhile, Volt takes the chance to charge another electric blast, this time aimed at the fire hyena since he was distracted with the jeguiron. Kasai is hit straight by the bolt, but Haruka's charm is still there protecting it. The barrier finally collapses with a soft shattering sound, but it's enough to keep Kasai on the field. "Are you f***ing kidding me??" Mark suddenly yells, turning to Selena with angry eyes. "How is that f***ing fair?"Selena has a calm demeanor as she answers, her brother holding a weird smirk on his face. "It isn't fair, but it's not breaking any of the rules you so valiantly accepted," she says simply with a smile. "so suck it up!" She turns back to watch the field. "Oh, and before I forget," she adds with a frightening cold voice. "Don't ever use that language with me again. Got it?" she throws a sideglance at Nicholas and the boy quickly looks down. Mark quickly speaks to soften the mood. "Don't worry, we still can do it. Pudgy, try to end the crocoal and go assist Volt," he says in his deep voice, and the oinklet obeys. She first readies another glob of mud and throws it at Kasai, before finally leaving her puddle to lay next to the stickibat as requested. The attack seemed to be going straight into Kasai's face, but just when it's about to hit another invisible layer shatters, changing its directions a fraction and hitting his leg instead. The protection proves once again effective as Kasai keeps standing, although it's clear he's on his last breath. Nicholas screams, a growl of pure hatred, and Mark looks saddened. Actions- Sentinel uses Rough Strike on Volt, but Asino Intercepts!
It's Not Very Effective!
- Volt uses Thunder Shock on Kasai for 34 Electric Special damage.
Kasai uses a Light Screen and loses 10 Hit Points.
- Pudy uses Mud-Slap on Kasai and Crits for 30 Ground Special damage.
It's Super-Effective! Kasai uses a Lucky Chant and loses 10 Hit Points.
Perception DC 9Adrian does a subtle sign to Dylan, although the meaning is not obvious.

Haruka breathed heavily from the quick burst of exertion, but managed to center herself at sight of Nicholas' reaction to Kasai still being upright, if just barely. She straightened her glasses as her lips took on a thin line, "It's about as fair as making your 'friends' take all the hits for you, despite what they want, so I think we're about even," she said acidly, "Finish them off, Coal Scatter!" And spotting Adrian's motion, she whips around to point accusingly at him, light glinting off her glasses. "And no outside interference! I saw that, you butt out! Whatever it is, if you pull any funny business, that's grounds for disqualification!" she lets out in a loud tirade, arms crossed as Kasai's fur flares with flames as he makes his attack. Fueled by her surge of anger, she centers herself once again, focusing on her inner strength. She sent her defensive charm to Sentinel this time, since Kasai seemed unlikely to take another blow. Kasai moves to D9 and uses Coal Scatter on all those jerks, Haruka uses Sage base feat on Sentinel

Adrian's smirk doesn't falter at Haruka's accusation, shrugging his shoulders. "Don't worry. You're the only psychic around," Selena is the one who answers "There's nothing he can do to influence it other than cheer. Or, as is the case, watch sadly as his lackeys lose," she says with a certain joy. "I'm not as sad as you think," he says enigmatically, just as Kasai advances to attack the whole group in a single blast of fire. Pudgy shakes her head just as it starts, a shower of mud raising to hold some of the hot coals, but the damage is done. Volt finally faints at the attack, falling to the ground with his tongue sticking out. Pudgy and Asino still stand, but both are clearly hanging by threads, full of burn marks. Mark once again screams in anger, and just as he's about to say something to the other pokémon, Dylan recalls his jeguiron, quickly followed by Mark recalling the oinklet. "What the f*** you think you're doing?" Nicholas yells at Dylan, spit flying out of his mouth. "We're gonna win this," he yells, turning to Mark, "NOW!" None of the two boys move, though. "The challengers concede." she says, a mix of confusion and happiness in her voice. "Glad to see you're not gonna push them further, boys.""Me, too," Adrian adds just as Nicholas is about to say something else, and the boy immediately shuts, although his eyes burn with anger as he faces the trio. Dylan and Mark simply smile at Selena. "In that case, I declare the challenged victorious!" she says with a wide smile. "Justly so."OOCYou have won the battle! Woohoo! For winning your first battle against Adrian's Crew, each of you gets one milestone! This means you reach level 5 and get some nice Feature(s). This is not gonna happen every battle, of course, but the first time is quite important, and you'll have the thing with the Professor later, so I just wrapped all XP in this package for easiness.
As for your pokémon, each of you gets 40 XP to distribute among your pokémon.

Erica smirks as the battle presumes to be over.
"Pluc, get back here."
The Dribbino gives a weak chirp before hopping back over and climbs up on Erica's shoulder again. She ruffles Pluc's feathers on the top of her head.
"Ya did good, kid. Ya did good."
Erica looks around at the now-calm battlefield. She'd won her first pokemon battle on day two of having a pokemon IN GENERAL. She wasn't alone, but it wasn't an un-even fight and she was sure that Pulap and Pluc had done their own share at least. She doesn't want to get overconfident, but she is wondering why she even struggled this much in Unova if this is all she needed to do to get on her own... Because she's GOOD at this. She nearly has a full team, the first evolution of their group, and Pluc survived to the end. All great things. Although it feels like she's forgetting something... Oh right. Isn't there some sort of reward for winning? Although with that raging psychopath about two steps from frothing at the mouth, she's not going to bring it up herself. Selena seems like she doesn't care about angering him, so maybe she'll bring it up. Or Haruka, she seems like she might too after that outburst. As long as the anger isn't directed at Erica herself.

Haruka watches with grim satisfaction as Kasai's attack nearly takes down all three of the enemy pokemon in one swoop, feeling particularly smug about the rude one finally being out of pokemon. She mentally prepared herself for them to target Kasai at any moment, steeling herself for the sight of him going down, but... the other two trainers... gave up? Haruka watched in a mixture of bemusement and elation as the other two returned their pokemon and the rude boy predictably blew up at the sight of it. She... didn't really want to get involved.
She watched them warily until movement from Kasai caught her attention; the Crocoal, battered to near unconsciousness, collapsed. Haruka gasped and rushed over, worried... he didn't look good. She smiled weakly as she stroked his fur, careful to avoid any wounds. Though beaten to a pulp and seemingly barely able to move, Kasai seemed... happy? Haruka supposed he must be just that focused on victory. "Good job, Kasai, very good job. You did really great, I couldn't be more proud! Please don't exert yourself anymore, take a rest," she said, bringing out a pokeball to return him. After the flash of red light, Haruka stood up, brushing off the knees of her jeans.
She looked around, pointedly avoiding looking at Nicholas or Adrian, and focused on Mark and Dylan. Well... Selena said they didn't deserve the same treatment as the other two, so... Haruka figured she should say something at the very least. "Well... I won't say the battle was fun... because it wasn't considering one of the participants, but it was a good experience for my first battle! I hope it was for you two, as well. I don't know how I'd feel about someone else ordering my pokemon around, especially just to take hits for theirs without asking... You two have a lot more patience than me," she said, shaking her head.
With that, she turned her gaze onto Selena. She bowed slightly before speaking, "It was very nice to meet you, again, but I believe we, or at least I, must be going. We have an important prior engagement and I need some time to get ready," she said. She thought for a few moments before speaking again, "I also... don't really want Kasai to hurt any longer than he should, so I'm going to rush off to take care of that. Hopefully we'll see each other sometime soon! And I'd appreciate it if you left some of your... 'friends' at home. Since they've proven themselves to be throughly without manners or any other worth, I'd rather not deal with them ever again." Haruka filled her last statement with a decent amount of scorn, hopefully they'd get the message. She would really, really like it if she never, ever saw those two again. Haruka gave a brief wave to Selena, having finished her farewell, and made to leave the square.

With the battle over, Dean lets out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
"Great job Sentinel, you can come back now buddy"
Sentinel trudges back to his trainer, a satisfied grin on his face. When he reaches his trainer he gently nudges Dean's leg, obviously looking for some praise. Dean is happy to oblige as he gently strokes his starters head.
"That was a hell of a fight buddy and you once again came through for me."
With that he taps the center of Iguard's pokéball and the Pokémon is swallowed in a bright, red light. With the battle done, he watches first to see the reactions Erica and Haruka give before chiming in himself.
He steps up to the group and first shakes Selena's hand.
"Thanks a lot for acting as referee, great job on being so impartial."
He then addresses their opponents offering both Mark and Dylan a handshake as well.
"Nice battle guys, thanks for the experience"
When he switches his attention to Nicholas, his voice suddenly takes on a more venomous tone.
"You on the other hand, are a disgrace. How dare you call yourself a trainer or a friend for that matter. What gives you the right to order your friends Pokémon around to take blows for yours. My advice, keep going like this and you'll be out of friends and out of luck before you know it. Now if you'll excuse me, I will be joining the ladies to our other engagement, the less time I spend around someone like you, the better."
When Dean turns around to leave, he looks back a final time.
"Seriously guys, ditch the psycho before he drags you all down with him"
With that, he follows after Haruka, not sparing the group another glance.

Nicholas doesn't say anything as Haruka and Dean badmouth him, his eyes cold as iron facing the trio. It's quite obvious he isn't answering because of Adrian, who's still smirking and keeping his eyes on Nicholas, even as Dylan and Mark awkwardly shake Dean's hand. Selena stands there with a weird smile, and waves back at Haruka as the girl gets ready to go. But Dean's last insult seems to push the boy a little too far and Nicholas throws back his arm and gets ready to punch Dean just as he turns to accompany Haruka. The sound makes the trio turn their look back, just in time to see Selena gracefully take a step forward in the path of the punch, her shoulder under Adrian's arm and, in a swift, precise motion, turn the boy around to fall on his butt instead. She pulls her purplish hair back as she stares at him on the ground, the other boys taking a step back from the scene, their eyes on the girl.
"Now you're just being pathetic, Nicholas," she says in her sweet voice, not a single sign of tiredness after the sudden movement. "That was a stupid decision. Please prove me you're not that dumb and stay down. You earned it." She then turns back to the trio of foreigners with her kind smile. "Sorry about that. Why don't we start moving to the PokéCenter to have your pokémon healed while the boys stay back and think about their loss?" she asks charmingly with a quick look at her brother.
"I think that's a fabulous idea," Adrian agrees with a fake smile. "We'll sure talk about it for quite some time." While his voice is cordial, his eyes show he is not in the best of moods, a coldness hiding behind the green iris.
"Fantastic!" Selena answers, her cheerfulness much more natural, already moving and ushering Dean, Erica, and Haruka to follow. She doesn't look back as the group moves to the Center, not waiting to be out of sight to loudly comment: "I'm so glad you won that easily. Really, it's a shame you didn't agree to a reward for the winner. I'd love seeing Nicholas pay!"

Erica recalls Pluc and makes like she's following the others, but stays in the back. Well damn, guess we aren't getting anything. Dissapointing. I guess nothing was on the line... either. Well, damn. One way or another I'm getting paid. Adrian and Nicholas aren't going to go for it but Mark and Dylan seem like they'd still go for it. Lets see if we can't get their attention...She walks with the group until the boys are out of sight seemingly, and then veers off hopefully before the three notice she's gone. She's really not wanting a higher-than-thou speech from the shrine maiden right now, so some distance will help that. Stealth roll: 16 total
Stealth capability - User does not make any noise unless they wish too. Erica hides behind a bush or tree or something, and begins making her way back to the boys. If they are still sitting there, she tries to get close enough while hidden to listen in if possible. She takes out two sheets of paper and writes her first name and number down with the following note: If you are tired of your 'leader' holding you back behind him or your hot-headed friend using you as a shield, call me. I got some pokeball cases with your name on it for the edge you need to get ahead. She folds both notes up tight so she can just drop them in a pocket once given the chance, and waits for them to start moving.

Haruka made to leave the square, but turned around at the sound of a sudden commotion. Glancing back, she caught the sight of Selena dumping the rude one onto his butt, seemingly after he made an attempt to strike Dean. She was a bit shocked at Selena's sudden display of martial fitness, eyes wide as she stared at the scene. She quietly filed away that fact for later as she took in th rest of the scene. Honestly... Dean had said what she thought about the boy anyway, but it was a bit provoking. Still, attacking someone with their back turned was still particularly rude... if not attacking someone in general. Her vast dislike for the boy grew a little more as she glared at him, lip curling slightly. She would've said something, but Selena seemed to have already put him in his place, so Haruka continued to leave.
She smiled softly at Selena's words as they moved onward, waiting until they were out of earshot of the group of rude and perhaps not so rude boys before replying, "Well... maybe not so easily. I don't think I've exerted myself like that in a long time..." Haruka said, smiling weakly, "And I was a bit... nervous to be honest. That was my first trainer battle, as I said. I felt like we barely scraped by! Though... I guess I did still have a pokemon left..." Haruka thought for a moment before continuing to speak, turning to Dean, "Um... did I do okay, actually? Kasai got really hurt and both you and Erica were down to one pokemon which were pretty hurt in turn... Is the whole taking blows for each other thing a usual part of battling? Your reaction kind of suggested that it wasn't but I um... I'm just asking since I just... you know... haven't really experienced this much. And I was just wondering if I... um... did alright?"
Feeling a bit flustered, she turned back to Selena. She struggled to come up with another topic for a few moments, but eventually came across something that was on her mind. She was a bit curious about Selena's own experience especially after her display with Nicholas earlier, "So, ah, are you a trainer as well? You did say that your brother had a bit of a lead on you, but does that mean you're a trainer? If so, how long have you been one? I'm also a little bit curious of... well... you know..." Haruka flushed slightly as she continued, "I was wondering where you learned how to do that? I can do protective wards from the training I did with the more experienced shrine tenders in my village, but... I'm not very good at actually defending myself... physically."

Dean quickly turned around when he heard a loud thump and saw Nicholas on the ground. When he realized the boy had tried to strike him, he was not surprised in the least. He seemed to have a very short temper and Dean thought it would be fun to see how far he could be pushed. Apparently, not much.
When Haruka asked him the question on how she did, Dean beamed with pride.
"Honestly Haruka, you did great. Sure, Kasai was exhausted by the end, but you at least had another Pokémon ready if need be. Erica did really well also, though pluc was also close to fainting if you ask me."
The next thing he wanted to address was a bit more dangerous, and he hoped saying it would not invoke Haruka's anger.
"One thing though. I honestly don't think that in a normal league or gym battle, they will allow you to use your protective wards. You might want to experience battling without using them sometime. I might be wrong though, so that would be something we could address when we meet with the professor. Though I honestly have to say, they've come in pretty handy a couple of times already"
He waits for Haruka to finish her discussion with Selena before moving back to the Pokémon center. Shuriken needed healing and Sentinel could benefit from a bit of rest as well. Meanwhile, he's making a mental list of all the questions he has for the professor.

Erica Erica hangs back a bit before stealthily ditching her companions to return to the square. Adrian and the other boys are still there, sitting in the middle of it, by the fountain, just as they were when they first saw the group. Adrian and Nicholas seem to be having a heated argument, while Mark mostly listens, intervening from time to time with a much calmer look. Dylan is at the larger boy's side, but his attention is on a small notebook where he is writing something very quickly. Being in such an open space, Erica can't find a way to approach undetected now that she's a known face, but she stays close to a busy store's entrance to watch them from afar. A few minutes later, something happens that makes Nicholas lose his temper and knock the book out of Dylan's hands in a clear demand of attention. Dylan ducks to grab his belongings, a face of embarrassment as he quickly scans around to see if anyone's seen the scene and his eyes lock with Erica's. She can see his eyes widen for a second, before he quickly look to see if any of the others has noticed the girl, which they haven't, apparently. He then collects his things swiftly and say something to Nicholas while nodding, and as soon as the argument resumes, he surreptitiously looks back at Erica, a silent question in his face. Dean and Haruka "Oh, I have to agree with your friend, Miss Omiya," Selena says after Dean gives Haruka his opinion on the battle. "You performed very well for your first battle! I dare say you are a natural trainer," she says with a smile as the group moves to the PokeCenter. "But he's right about your... thing," she says carefully, clearly unsure of what the wards are. "I think you won't be able to use it in regular battles. Had I known what you could do, as a judge it would be my obligation to call the rules you chose unfair and request a change. Lucky you I hadn't," she winks at Haruka. When Haruka asks Erica about her own skills, the girl's smile widens. "Yes, I'm a trainer, but not for battle. I'm a coordinator," she explains. "I train my Pokémon for contests of grace, cleverness and the like. No violence involved. But I have only started a little over a month ago, in the last Journey Start," she says, but looking at Haruka and Dean's face, she continues. "It's when we're given our starter and it happens every 6 months. We all went to the last one, except Adrian who went on the previous, so he has a little more experience. He's not as good as he thinks he is," she says with a malicious voice and then giggles. "And the fighting is part of my routine," she says as the group arrives at the center. "It started as dance and choreography, but some contests measure physical prowess, and to properly train my Pokémon I had to train myself. And I actually quite liked it. Made me feel... powerful. Not like you, sure, that's real power. But you should have been there when Adrian found out what I could do," she says with a grin. "He and his lackeys learned a lesson that day. And THAT made me never stop."

"that's what I thought myself, but don't worry Haruka, your abilities are more then helpful for us on the road. Oh and you asked if it was normal what Nicholas did in our battle. It depends really. If you fight as a team and you know each others strengths, it might be a good tactic for one Pokémon to focus on keeping your attackers safe. IN this case though, it didn't seem like the others were in on his plan. It's not normal for a trainer to take control of someone else's Pokémon during a battle."
Dean listens to Selena's story and he perks up as she mentions she's a coordinator.
"I thought as much when you first mentioned you weren't into battling as much. Great to hear though, I was already wondering if there'd be a big coordinator scene here in Lima. Where I'm from it's almost as big as battling is nowadays. You know, most coordinators make great battlers as well. I met Wallace once while on my journey through Hoenn and he is a sight to behold. Such style, such grace. But don't think for a second he's a slouch in battles, he's been our region's champion for quite a while now".
As they walk closer to the Pokémon center Dean wants to ask some more questions to the girl.
"What kind of Pokémon do you use in your routines Selena, would you mind showing us? We're pretty new to the region as you know and any info we can acquire would be helpful for our studies. Oh yeah, one more thing. The horse Pokémon Dylan used, did he catch it in the wild or did he get it from the ranch in town?"

Haruka smiled as the Dean and Selena assuaged her doubts about her performance in battle. "Ah, well... Thank you! It's good to know I didn't do too bad at the very least." Though as they talked about her abilities, she nodded solemnly. She had guessed that that sort of power wouldn't exactly have been... permitted during official battles. "I suppose it was too much to expect it would be allowed... Though maybe using divine gifts given to your family line in battles such as that aren't exactly fair," she thought about it for a few moments before speaking again, "I don't think that Victini or the Swords of Justice would have objected to the way that battle went, however. Victini doesn't care much about how a battle goes as long as it's exciting and that boy's conduct was deserving of punishment so... I at least think it was fair, given that he used his allies as shields. Even if he had prior permission, it was still callous to do it without asking first." She nodded to herself, satisfied.
Haruka listened with interest to Selena's story and cocked her head, thinking for a few moments, "That sounds interesting! I'll admit that contests aren't very popular in Kanto and Johto. Both are pretty traditional in their preferences toward that sort of thing. Though, I think I'll stick to learning how to battle pokemon first before I'd do something like that. I probably still have a lot to learn before I'm good at dealing with pokemon in general... I'll have to learn something I can do to support us during battles like that since it seems my main way of helping out won't be allowed..." Hmm... what to do? She seemed to be good at teaching pokemon things so... maybe she could follow up with that? She had run into a decent number of trainers that had specialized in mentoring pokemon in ways to change their battle style or learn moves that species wouldn't normally learn... Maybe she could look into that? She'd also heard that cooking with berries and other such things could do wonders in battle... Perhaps she should study up on that as well...
Lost in thought, Haruka only noticed them arriving at the pokemon center when the door hummed as it slid open automatically. She gave a start before walking in and placing Kasai's ball on the counter. "Um... hello, again. I don't suppose you could help my Crocoal out, could you? He got fairly beat up in a battle I just had."

Erica turns to comment about how contests seem like a self-righteous way to have pokemon battles without battling. Or she would if she were anywhere near that conversation, but she's still spying on the boys. When she's caught by Dylan, she thinks of flying around the corner hoping he would maybe think he just was imagining it was her but... she sees an opportunity. After all, they seem to be taking forever, and she can't wait ALL day. And he is one of the ones she wanted to talk to. She stays looking at him, before taking out the two sheets, writing his name on one and Mark's on the other, placing them down and putting a rock on top so they don't blow away. She looks back up to him, winks and tips her cap a bit and walks around the building out of sight.
Hopefully he gets the picture. And gets Mark his. Without the other two nimrods learning.
Erica makes a wide berth around the store and makes her way to the center to meet back with the others. Hopefully maybe Haruka forgot about her argument and they can just get to the meeting with the Professor so she can ask her questions already.

Dean and Haruka "Well, contests aren't that big here right now, at least since the League rules were implemented," Selena explains the duo as they enter the center. "Let's hope this all change soon, right? And my team is a mix of different specialties for contests. My starter was an iguard, which I'm training to be cool," she says, taking her pokedex to show images as she enumerates them, "a hardy dustley, a smart waxolt and a noomaglo I hope will become a beautiful ilunamoth. No pattern there, just like Dylan, to be honest," she answers Dean. "Nicholas wants attackers, Mark goes for endurance and Adrian has crafty ones. But Dylan... I think he wants versatility, but I'm not really sure," she says with a shrug of shoulders. "I do know his jeguiron comes from Mr. Hermann, just like my waxolt. He has a ranch a bit to the north and he usually gifts young Pokémon to new trainers. You should totally go there and say I sent you. He's a really nice old man," she says as Rose, the nurse, appears again. "Back so soon?" she asks with a smile before recognising Selena. "Oh, Selena! How are you, dear? Ah, I see..." her smiles becomes a bit mischievous. "Should I be expecting your bother and his friends as well?""You bet. When are those four not involved in trouble in this town?" Selena answers, hugging Rose. "They should be on their way, which means I should try and intercept them before they arrive," she says before lowering her voice. "They lost this time." she whispers to Rose with a grin and winks. Rose giggles and Selena turns back to the duo as they give their Pokémon to the helpful Agnus. "Here, take my number," she gives Haruka a light-pink business card. "Let's keep in touch. I'm sure we'll see each other again, so better to be ready for that, right? And go see Mr. Hermann, he'd like to meet you," she says, already making her way to the door. "Bye-bye!"Erica Erica leaves the pieces of paper, watching Dylan's eyes follow her actions to make sure he understands. He was perhaps a bit too focused since Nicholas suddenly asks him something aggressively before turning to follow his stare. By that time, though, Erica was already another person in the crowd, getting away from the group and back to the others. Just as she arrives at the Center, the door bursts open and she collides with Selena, who seems to be rushing off. "Sorry!" she says, before recognising the other girl. "Are they on the way already? Damn!" she curses, and before Erica answer she's running towards the park again. Erica enters the Center and sees her friends depositing their Pokémon, adding her own to the tray to be taken care of. "Thank you, trainers," Rose says as the dualail takes the pokeballs inside. "This should take just a few minutes," she says with a smile, leaving the trio alone again.

Haruka thanked Rose as she took Kasai's pokeball, readying him for healing. Turning back to Selena, she was surprised as a she was presented with a... business card? That seemed... very professional. Did trainers typically have this sort of thing? What kind of layout were you supposed to use for them? Looking a bit bemused, Haruka pocketed the business card, making a note to ask someone later about how to store it in her pokedex. "Okay! I'd be happy to keep in touch. And seeing the man that owns the ranch seems like a good idea, though we might have to wait until after we meet with the professor or until tomorrow," she replied, glancing at a clock in the pokemon center. "Until next time!" she said, clasping her hands together and bowing a little more deeply than usual.
Looking around, Haruka noticed something a little... odd. Where was Erica? She was sure that she was following behind... As Haruka looked around, there was a commotion at the door to the pokemon center and she looked over to spot Erica. She gave her a wave as she approached. "Oh, hello! I hope we didn't leave you behind. I'm sorry if we did, I was just... in a little bit of a hurry to get away from those... people," she said, narrowing her eyes as she infused the last word with scorn. She struggled to calm herself after remembering all the rude things those... beasts did before she remembered she had some things to discuss with Dean and Erica.
She frowned as she thought of the best way to phrase her worries, waiting for the nurse to leave so their conversation was a little bit more private. "I um... actually have some things I'd like to talk about after that. Just... a few things I want to mention about how that went," she said, nervously brushing a lock of hair out of her face. She didn't want to just... blow up on them. It would be best if they discussed it in a reasonable fashion, yelling at people usually didn't solve things, it just made things get worse.
She turned to face Dean first, it seemed like he'd be the easier of the two to talk to about things. "So... Dean. I know those people were being rude and goading you into battling them but... you kind of just agreed to battle them without asking me or Erica about it. I can't say how Erica felt about it, but I felt like my opinion on the matter wasn't really... regarded by how quickly you set the terms without any input from us." Haruka fidgeted as she thought about how to convey what she felt. "I know that I don't seem that experienced with pokemon battling, but I would have liked to have been asked at the very least. Otherwise it doesn't really feel like my opinion is... important, you know? And... I don't want things to be like that," she finished, glancing away.
"And... Erica," she said after a few moments of silence, "Even if the thought of possibly enabling people like that to abuse their pokemon isn't important to you... even though it should be..." Haruka muttered under her breath, "Can you at least not try to sell things that could give people we're about to battle an advantage? That seems a little... self-defeating, doesn't it? Especially in a battle where we... at least I, feel like I have a personal stake in? I don't know how I would've handled it if they had won over us and... well... giving people like that advantages doesn't seem like a good idea..." she finished, trailing off.
She crossed her arms, frowning, "Those are just... my thoughts on the matter. I didn't want this sort of thing to just linger, so... I felt like I should talk about it at the very least. You don't need to say anything now, but just... think about it, okay? I can understand if you... need a bit of time to think about it."

Erica just shrugs off the comment about being 'left behind'. Hey it's not the best excuse for hanging back, but they hardly seemed to know she was gone. Either it means they don't care [or were too wrapped up in their own conversations] or she's just really good.
"It's fine."
She rolls her eyes at the comment toward Dean about starting the battle. Not like she cared, she probably was going to start it herself honestly if Dean didn't. Now she's just blameless in all that. She wanted to beat them to prove a point to her potential targets to get the point across and split the group up for her own benefit. Pissing off Adrian and Nicholas was just a bonus. But the rest of Haruka's little speech just angers her, and the annoyance is visible on her face. She sighs before looking to Haruka.
"Ok look here Haruka. Imma need you to get off your high-ponyta and get on my level for a second. First: I know these types of people. Not even talking Dylan and Mark cause they didn't seem to be the jerks of the group; but Adrian and Nicholas. You know what they are? Little punks. They wouldn't dare do something like abuse their pokemon with a Lock case because they have to interact with the league at some point and some trainer will call on them and then the league officials will swarm all over them in a heartbeat and then they gotta go crying to mom that they lost their 'hobby'. Not to mention, pretty damn sure Selena is the true leader of that group. No doubt in my mind. She's got em wrapped around her finger."
Erica takes a breath.
"Second: The battle was agreed on to have no trainer interacting with opponent pokemon and no items. None of my cases would have been useable in that way. Hell, you were the only one in that fight with a clear advantage. I mean, did you see me use a single one? No. So it wouldn't have changed our outcome of winning."
She takes a step forward in Haruka's face. At this point, Erica has at least a couple inches on Haruka, and hopes that'll make this point stick even a little better.
"Third: If you got a problem with the way I do thinks, say it. Don't hide behind excuses like 'giving potential opponents an advantage' when you said you didn't even want to fight."
Erica stays standing there until Haruka responds or backs down. She knows that selling her cases may seem slimy to others, but despite her main 'job' as a trainer for the professor, that's not enough. She's been in squaller for too long to only have 'just what she needs' for cash.

Haruka watched Erica as she replied to her words with a long tirade of her own. Then furrowed her brow as Erica stepped toward her to state her last point. What was that for? Was that supposed to intimidate her in some way? Haruka... wasn't sure how to feel about that. There were a lot scarier things in the world than a human being. She had seen them, and even if most didn't believe in them, they were still there in the shadows. Haruka let out a deep breath as she collected her thoughts. She had legitimately made a mistake in regards to what the cases did, so...
"... Well... I'm sorry about thinking that you were possibly giving help to people we were about to fight. I didn't know what exactly your cases did, so... I apologize for assuming," Haruka said delicately before speaking with a bit more strength, "But if you want me to say what I think... then fine." She was a little unsure of bringing up the point immediately since they were supposed to travel together but... Haruka made up her mind. She didn't really want to travel with someone who acted in this sort of way anyway. And if this caused her to leave, then... fine. Haruka wouldn't want to deal with a person like that anyhow.
Haruka's eyes flashed behind her glasses as she began to speak, "I don't think you care about the wellbeing of pokemon at all. Or even if you do, you place the value of money above it, which is almost worse. You say that you 'know' that they won't abuse the pokemon but can you be absolutely sure? It's not at all possible that they might snap in a moment of anger, even though that rude one almost tried to hit Dean when he lost his temper? And even if the league does catch them and take away their pokemon, their pokemon still suffered at some point. Suffering still would have happened and the fact that you are completely brushing the possibility away bothers me."
Haruka leaned back, causing her glasses to shine in the fluorescent lights of the pokemon center. She spoke with a grim tone as she continued, "The person who provides the temptation and method is just as guilty as the person who carries out the deed, I've seen it happen many times. They say they didn't do it and you might think out of sight, out of mind, but... when the tortured souls of those you allowed to come to harm come back to haunt you, don't expect me to jump at the chance to ward them away."
With that, she closed her eyes... That was... strangely tiring. A few moments after going over her words, she sighed internally. Now she'd done it. This sadly wouldn't be the fastest she'd driven someone off, but it would be pretty notable that she had broken up a group that was meant to be long term so quickly. But... as she had thought before, maybe she didn't want to be in a group with someone that behaved like that.

"Don't pretend like you understand me to the point you can think I actually de-value lives that much."
Erica's face is pretty grim at this point.
"You are just like a lot of people. Blaming the item when it's the person behind it that's the problem. Trust me, if they 'really' wanted to abuse their pokemon, they don't need my cases to do it. So when you get back on your pedestal, just think about that."
Erica turns and walks out to wait out the healing time of her two pokemon outside.
"Whatever, I'm out. I'll make my own way to the meeting."

When Haruka starts her tirade, Dean is at first not entirely sure how to respond. He had genuinely thought it wasa good idea to accept a battle they were challenged to bya bunch of Obvious bullies. The way Haruka talked to him didn't sit well with him at all and what she said about Erica was equally insulting. Apart from that, Dean had been nothing but friendly and accepting and he was not about to take this shit from anyone, let alone someone he had made an effort to be nice to. The Hoenn native was just about to give miss little witch academia a piece of his mind when Erica spoke up. Dean had already guessed that Erica was someone to take this kind of abuse, but her response was maybe a bit harsher then he would have given.
One thing was for sure, he was not going to interfere in the girls' petty bickering. He'd chosen a side in the conflict for sure, but he was not about to let either of the girls know his standpoint. Here he was, new in a strange region which he was tasked to explore and evaluate with two people who obviously couldn't stand eachother that well. Dean took some distance from the squabbling girls when Erica suddenly stormed out.
He stepped up to Haruka with his arms crossed and an angry scowl on his face.
"Great going Haruka. Piece of advise though. If you plan on us to keep working as a team, I'd cut down on the preaching. If you didn't want to take part in the battle you just should have said so when we were out there. You obviously have a mouth so I'd say it would be best to use it when the situation calls for it. If you would have just told me you didn't want to battle, I'd have changed the terms, wouldn't be an issue whatsoever. How am I to know what you think if you keep quiet and then try and school me afterwards."
Dean began storming after Erica, but turned back once more, not entirely done with his tirade.
"Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't act like you're better then us. You were about to tear that boy's head clean off. And honestly, Erica didn't do anything to interfere with the battle directly, but you did. So I really don't get why you were so on her case for it. You don't know her, nor do I for that matter. It's not your place to assume that she values money more then pokémon's wellbeing. I'll meet you later at the lab, but I'm out. I don't need this shit!"
With that, Dean storms out the door and tries to catch up with Erica. Once outside though, the gravity of the situation kicked in and he understood that he might have been a bit harsh on Haruka in there. He hoped he could smooth things out later, but that'd have to wait. He imagined Erica might be upset despite her cold demeanor so he first wanted to make sure she was ok.
