The Mantine seizes up some, and can barely hold its position in the air. It tries a different tactic, directing its Remoraid to try and take out Rose, but that doesn't work. So, in exasperation, it does the job itself, focusing a psychic blast on taking out the little bud, who collapses to the ground. Mantine is Paralyzed. Mantine misses with Struggle. Rose takes 28 damage, an injury, and Faints from Psybeam.

As Rose goes down, Donovan quickly recalls him "You did your best and that's all I could ask of you. Dandelion, take advantage of what Rose set up for you and hit the one who took him down!" The little bee appears a few meters away from the Mantine and immediately upon entering the battle unleashes the same psychic blast that the foe was using back against them. Dandelion goes out and uses Psybeam against the Mantine.

The little bee blasts the much larger Pokémon, causing it to falter... but it still holds fast, even though it seems to be fairly tired. It's not finished yet. Bronzong, on the other hand... simply seems to refuse to wake up. Even with the Remoraid going back to tap at it. The Mantine turns its attention to the Frillish, but isn't able to even hit the giggling jellyfish. It wheels around, and instead begins to hover near the Bronzong. Dandelion hits with Psybeam. Bronzong fails to wake up. Mantine misses with Psybeam.

With Mica's spirited encouragement, Taffy scootches along the ground surprisingly quickly, trailing along after the Meantime, before launching a rippling wave of darkness and fear after it.

Donovan starts to feel bad for a second for Enya and her team, before remembering how the last battle had went " It seems that sometimes throwing something other than brute force seems to work too. But, Dandelion, show them your force again!" The Combee flies forward before releasing another Psybeam at the Mantine, hoping that if things kept up they might be able to take it down before it has a chance to do much more Donovan uses Focused Training

Dandelion's Psybeam strikes the Mantine head on, but this time it braces itself, pushing through the pain. From Taffy's shadow comes a ghostly simulacrum that moves towards the "flap flap"... but it seems to be ignored entirely, the foe not even appearing to notice it. The Bronzong finally stirs, waking up from its nap. It seems to still have to get its bearings, though. Mantine's Remoraid still isn't able to get things together and misses Dandelion entirely. The bubbles launched by the creature are another story entirely, though, battering Dandelion, and even knocking Taffy around a little bit. Dandelion hits with Psybeam. Enya triggers Pain Resistance. Frillish hits with Night Shade. Mantine loses no HP. Bronzong wakes up. Dandelion takes 26 damage and 2 injuries from Bubble. Taffy takes 6 damage from Bubble.

"Guess that didn't work... Let's try an Absorb instead?". Mica called to Taffy, who considered for a moment before attempting to leech health from the flap flap.

" Dandelion, I believe in you, keep it up! Finish the big one with another Psybeam!" Donovan calls out, his hands balled into fists as he watches his Combee take yet another big hit. Dandelion, still reeling from the bubbles, lets loose another psychic assault on the Mantine. Focused Training

Dandelion's blast finally knocks the Mantine out of the sky, and Enya recalls it with a sad smile. "Well, this is probably a foregone conclusion," she says, "But, being a Gym Leader means never giving up. So, swat that bug, Laurie." The Bronzing turns towards Dandelion, and begins spinning through the air, crashing its arms into Dandelion, and knocking the Combee out cold. Mantine faints from Psybeam. Taffy hits Bronzong with Absorb. It's not very effective. Dandelion takes 22 damage and 2 injuries from Rollout.

Donovan recalled Dandelion before holding his last ball in front of him " Well, I guess it's down to Aster on my end." The Deerling came out of his ball with a wild flurry of kicks, not really looking where he was even striking. Focused once more

"Don't be sad Enya! You said it best, if we don't give up here then you and I will have a really amazing battle someday, when we can give it our all! Taffy, let's bubble the bell!"
The jellyfish again scoots after the bell, careful not to catch Aster in the cascade of exploding spheres it releases with a flap of it's tentacles.

"Oh, I know, Mica," Enya says, giving a laugh, "Doesn't make it any easier to see an old friend fall. But you didn't come here for me being a sentimental sap." She winces a little bit as the Bronzong takes some hits from both sides. But it stays standing. "You came for the battle. So, that's what you'll get." The Bronzing spins once more, careening into Aster. Aster hits once with Double Kick. Taffy hits with Bubble. Aster takes 27 damage from Rollout. A critical hit!

"Well, as always, this is a bittersweet moment," Enya says, recalling the Bronzong once Aster had kicked it to the ground. "On the one hand, as with whenever I lose, I feel as if I could have done better... but, on the other hand," she beams, "You both too the lessons of this Gym to heart. Congratulations on beating your first gym, and triumphing through adversity."She walks across the battlefield, taking a pair of objects out of a pouch, before handing them over. They look like little stylized embers of flame, except they shimmer blue. "This here is the Chillfire badge. It represents the heat of your passion tempered with the cool of your skills." She pauses, before giving a bit of a half-smile. "Also, I just thought it was a cool design, and had to justify it. Anyways, when active, this badge will help to protect your Pokémon from the heat of battle. Use it wisely, and don't burn yourself up, okay?"Each of you gain 1 Milestone, 150 EXP to split between your Pokémon however, and the Chillfire Badge. When equipped, this gives the chosen Pokémon the Heatproof Ability. Off to the side, the Bulbasaur and Ivysaur glance up at the proceedings, watching with interest - the Bulbasaur with rapt interest, the Ivysaur trying to (poorly) disguise it some.

"See Spot? Even with lil noodley arms you can do great things! Boop." Mica held the shiny badge a little too close to the ladybug's face, causing it to go cross-eyed, before gently affixing it to one side of the Pokemon's pretty red shell. Looking at him closely, she realized at that moment that while he was still very tiny, he was growing surprisingly quickly.
"Thinking something is great is a wonderful reason to do it, Enya." Mica cheered. "I feel like we've gotten a lot stronger too... I guess taking some time to reflect and adventure is super helpful!" She paused, fidgeting a little. "If... you were going to the center, after this, do you think I could play with Leila for a little while?"

Donovan seemed to cool down as soon as the battle was over, resting his hand on Asters head as he spoke "I really should have listened to you before. You were right that sometimes you can't just rely on little tricks to win a fight, and you really do just need to hit them harder than they can hit you." He smiled and held out a hand to the Gym Leader "I'll make sure to remember everything you taught us from here on out"
He recalled Aster before turning to Mica "Well Mica, now that we've finished the gym here, where should we go next. Other than the Center that is"

"Well, if I wasn't going to the Center, I'd be a pretty poor excuse for a Pokémon Trainer, now, wouldn't I?" Enya says, with a bit of a smile. "It'll probably take a few hours, but I'm sure Leila would be happy to fool around with you for a bit if you wanted. Outside of battle, she's really playful."
"Just remember, too," she says, turning to Donovan, "While I have taught you one thing, it is not the only way to fight. If you try and do the same thing in the other Gyms, you won't be successful. A good trainer is able to adapt to the situations given to them."

"I can wait a little bit! Before I went fishing I never knew what water pokemon felt like! They're all so squishy and it's really wonderful." Mica held herself excitedly before turning her attention to Donovan.
"Well... we can head north to Ponoca, or to another temple, but it's a bit out of the way. It might also be a little early for us to do that." Mica emphasized in her first attempt at tact in... well, ever probably.
From there she wandered over to the two pink Pokemon on the side of the field. "I hope you're both feeling a little bit... better about what's happened between us? Like I promised before, if you still want to go, I'll say goodbye and wish you well."

Donovan nods along when Enya spoke "Of course. I don't think we would have won if we hadn't used a few tricks. Every fight and every trainer is gonna be different. The biggest thing you taught me was to pay closer attention to my opponent and not just keep trying the same thing in panic"
He looks surprised when Mica manages to be tactful and keeps himself from saying too much "Maybe it's a conversation for later, but I would like to go see the temple as soon as possible Mica. For the Professor and all. But again, we can talk about this later. We should go get our friends healed up"

"Oh, are you helping out with some research for the lab?" Enya asks, "I don't expect they're paying you for that." She chuckles, "Ah, wherever you go in the world, you can always find a professor roping people into free labour. Hopefully it's at least fun stuff."
Over at Mica, the smaller of the two Pokémon glances up at her, before glancing back at its brethren, and then finally moving to rub its head against the side of her leg. The Ivysaur hangs back, seeming to have an attitude of resignation, rather than pure loathing now.
