Third time was, in fact, *not* the charm. Tauros runs Alice over.

Tauros merely takes the hit on its horns, deflecting it to the side. It then jabs one of those same horns at Alice!

Meowth yawns sleepily and spares Jane only a passing glance before beginning to clean itself.

Hmm. The cat didn't seem very interested in a battle with Alice. Now she could probably just have the Diggersby smack it around a bit to start trouble, but that felt too easy. No there had to be another way. A better way...
Suddenly struck by inspiration Jane sat down and quickly undid her shoelaces and pulled then loose. Then she took then and wrapped them around one of her empty pokeballs. Hopefully it'd look like an enticing ball of twine. And no cat could surely resist that! When her handiwork was complete she took a moment to marvel at the string-ball and wonder if this really would work. Only one way to find out! she thought to herself and casually rolled the ball towards the Meowth.

The Meowth does watch the movement, but that's about it. It doesn't seem supremely interested in shoelaces wrapped around an obvious poke ball.

Oh... Well that wasn't nearly as exciting as she had hoped. Feeling just a little bit silly she collected her contraption and sat down on the bench next to the Meowth. Ah well, every idea can't be a bright one she thought at started re-stringing her shoes.
All right she needed a new plan. While considering her options she idly reached out to pet the cat. Hmm. It didn't seem too interested in much of anything except lazying about. To test this perceived flaw in the Pokemons defence Jane simply picked up her pokeball again and dropped it on top of the Meowth.

Meowth is more clever than it first appeared! It swats away the ball. It mrows at Jane, as if mocking her foolish attempts to outsmart it.

Hmph. Jane considered a new approach. She hadn't tried bribery yet! Luckily she still had plenty of the Bluk berries that she had used to motivate her Hoothoot. Owls and cats were quite similar after all! And hopefully the Meowth would be incited to join her - after all he'd be doing pretty much the same as he was now only sometimes getting fed.

Meowth takes a sniff at the berries, then turns its nose up at them. Apparently it doesn't like that flavor!

Well that was a picky pokémon. But now that she thought about it Melinchamp was a picky eater too. Damn. Ah well. She started petting the Meowth again as she considered her next move, and how much she *really* would like to care for this cat.

Meowth accepts the petting and attention. Cats be fickle creatures, after all. Perhaps if you just sit with it awhile and let it get used to you, it will follow on its own? Who knows? It might even work.

Well she wasn't in a hurry anyhow. Might as well give it a shot. Jane continued to pet the Meowth for a while. As she did she flipped open her dex to idly go over the state of things.

Meowth seems to just lay back and enjoy the attention some more. After awhile it even decides to curl up in your lap. Seems like a nice place for a nap.

Well now I can't really move can I? Jane thought to herself and resigned herself to her fate as a cat-bed for the afternoon. All in all, it was quite relaxing. Hopefully it didn't have fleas. Though Joltiks are quite cute... Buut those probably didn't infest wild cats. Maybe Jolteons though? Not sure if they counted ...
Well eventually the afternoon started to shift into evening and Jane started to get restless. She was pretty sure her legs were asleep. So she carefully rummaged trough her backpack until she could find her old hat. And then she gently lifted the Meowth and put it in the hat, so she could carry it. Hopefully that'd work...

Of course, while this strategy works, now Jane is itchy. Great. It had fleas. Best go to a Poke Center to get her new Meowth companion (and herself) checked out. It didn't seem skittish around humans, so maybe it's a runaway/released mon? They'll be able to tell.
