Layl accepted Yoko's help when she had offered it, whispering a quiet "Thanks" to her when she did. That girl was so helpful.
When Iris addressed Layl, She blinked, mostly in confusion. Why was Iris even asking? "Yes, please start your explanation. I 'am' interested to know more about 'Pokemon'. I wouldn't be here otherwise."She put a bit of stress on some words to get her point across. She was being little vindictive, maybe too much so. Layl realized that she must have sounded very, very curt with that statement. Oh well, she was a bit annoyed at falling over. It shouldn't be that surprising that she was so annoyed, besides, she could apologize later, they had an explanation to hear right now.

Iris bit her tongue, the motion hidden by her closed lips, to stop another apology from slipping out, <I had just apologized, so let's not do that again.>
In that case, let's start at the beginning," Iris began her explanation, "Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My world and probably this one are inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for fights. Myself… I've always been able to understand Pokemon, so I don't see them as very different from people like you and me." She was already feeling a little more relaxed now that no one was asking about her Zorua, and it could be seen in the smile she gave. Moving on to the next topic, Iris demonstrated, "Now, when it comes to Pokemon battling, there are four main things to think about for Pokemon, specifically: orders, moves, type matchups, and switching out," by raising a finger for each "thing" she mentioned, "Of those four, we'll talk about only three for now," and she appropriately folded a finger back then so that only three remained, "because switching Pokemon in and out of a fight requires one trainer to have multiple Pokemon."
As she finished her preliminary explanation, Iris envisioned a set of three training dummies popping into existence onto the battlefield behind her, each spaced out with a lot of room between. Trusting her thought to change the room as she needed it to, Iris continued, "We'll begin with moves. Moves refer to what a Pokemon can do in battle, each given a name so that trainers may communicate their intentions with their Pokemon. Different Pokemon have different moves, determined by species, teachers, interactions with certain items, and simply what the Pokemon and/or their trainer decide to keep as there is a limit to the number of moves even the smartest Pokemon can know. As for determining moves... Well, in my world we usually used a handheld device known as a Pokedex. We don't have that, though, and if I were to channel and explain for each Pokemon, it'll take a lot of time. I'm not sure if it will work, but maybe if we think about our Pokemon's moves like we did with classes, then it'll work out? Anyways, if it does, then feel free to just start trying each move out, ideally away from each other."

After Iris' explanation, Shossk turns his attention to the dartrix for a moment, who looks back at him, before turning his attention towards no particular point in the sky.
"Wwhat moves does this creature know?" Shossk asks upward, taking the most direct course of action.

As Iris began her explanation, Yoko suddenly felt as though the girl was borrowing somebody else's words. She quickly shook it off, though, and listened attentively to what Iris had to say. When Iris suggested that they look up what moves their Pokémon know, Yoko replied, "I tried that earlier, and it worked for me." Since she didn't need to look up her Remoraid's moves like the others have to do with their Pokémon, Yoko instead decides to try and look up her own classes, so she concentrates on the word "Classes".

Shossk As Shossk asks the question of the air he hears a list of words sail through his skull. “Tackle.” Shossk inherently understands that this is a Normal type move that deals damage physically. Next the word “Leafage” pops into his head along with the understanding that it is a Grass type Physical move. The word “Air Cutter” Pops into his head, A Flying type Physical move. Then “Peck” a Flying Physical Move. Then “Astonish” a Ghost Physical move. Finally the move, “Razor Leaf” a Grass Physical Move, pops into his head. After each the idea of how strong or weak each move is flows past, the concepts and numbers flowing with them.
Yoko The sheet pops into Yoko’s head once again; it shifts to one side showing the word “Cosplayer” below which there are several sub classes “Backpacker” and “Fashionista”. The sub classes in turn show individual abilities that they give.

Shossk freezes in place as the information flows through his mind. He comes to a moment later, giving his head a quick shake. Thankfully the information came intuitively rather than through a text dump, though he did not understand exactly what was meant by Normal, Grass, Ghost, or Flying. Perhaps they were elemental in nature, like Acid or Radiant damage? He looks between the newly-summoned training dummies and the dartrix, who looks to his trainer expectantly. "Sshow me your Moves," Shossk says simply. The dartrix blinks and tilts his head. Shossk blinks. "...Sshow me your Razor Leaf."Immediately the dartrix launches itself off the bench towards the training dummy. It swoops almost within melee range and then launches what looks like a brace of knives towards the enemy. Razor Leaf AC 4: rolled 3
Unfortunately the dartrix misses everything, the 'knives' revealing themselves to be sharpened leaves as they spray the area around the dummy, cutting small patches of grass and embedding themselves in the ground. The dartrix's head spins around to look sheepishly at Shossk for a second. He quickly regains composure and sprays more razor-sharp leaves into the grass, then turning around triumphantly and giving Shossk a feathery thumbs-up. He totally meant to do that, honest! Shossk blinks again, then looks at Iris. "Thesse are similar to spells. Is therre a limit to their use? Do they require resst to replenish?"

Layl looks over at Nacht, so he had powers like that too? Might as well ask him to show off his stuff. "Show me what you got, Nacht!" She would trust Iris that he wasn't too young to fight. Nacht turned towards Iris himself, giving her smirk towards her before he turned straight to Layl, getting in a battle stance and running at Layl. Layl tensed up, readying herself for the assault coming her way, it could be very powerful. Nacht skid to a halt right in front of her, before staring up at her with sad eyes as tears started spraying pout of his face and he let out a mournful cry. Fake Tears AC 2: rolled 9
Layl was shocked and appalled, She didn't mean to hurt his feelings. "I-I I'm sorry Nacht, I didn't mean to push you like that, Don't worry. Everything's going to be all right!" She ran forward to hug the poor guy as he cried in her arms, This was awful! She couldn't believe that she had pushed him so hard. She began to pet him on his head trying to soothe the little guy.

"Um...," Iris hesitated on how to reply to Yoko, but the other girl seemed to lose herself in thought almost immediately, <Should I? Should I not?>.
In the meantime, the other two were making good progress.
Iris noticed that Shossk was getting in good progress. He even asked her a question, to which Iris answered, "Spells? Yeah, I guess that's another way to look at it. Some moves can be used anytime you want them to, but others, especially stronger moves can only be used so many times in a certain span of time. The most infrequent, in my experience, are moves that can only be used once a day. If you have access to that information, I suggest paying attention to it. If not, then it's a matter of trial-and-error, I guess."
Having answered Shossk, Iris looked back over to Yoko. Whether she was still searching through her classes or not, Iris would call out, "Um... Yoko, since we're out(?) in(?) here, why don't you set Bang down and get a feel for his moves? Oh, and the fish in your world couldn't move on land, right? Now's a good time to get a feel for how Bang would move when there isn't any water for him to swim in."
Then there was Nacht and Layl. Iris had looked at Nacht just in time to catch his smirk, but she was too busy surveying the other two as well to really respond to the expression that no doubt spelled trouble. Sure enough, as Iris answered Shossk, she heard a plaintive cry from Nacht followed immediately by Layl sounding very guilty over something. Iris let Layl remain fooled while she tried to get Yoko back on track, but she didn't abandon her entirely. Once she got to Nacht and Layl, Iris did a quick search of her new Pokemon knowledge to give a helpful and accurate hint, "Zorua, the Tricky Fox Pokemon. Layl, make sure to look up Nacht's moves." Despite having never trained a Zorua, she'd come to associate the beasties innocent Pokemon that she really needed to stop feeling prejudice against with psychologically taxing deceptions and diversions thanks to one very nasty specimen of their evolved form. It was strange, she got mixed feelings from seeing that just previously smiling Zorua crying, and no doubt tricking, Layl. On one hand, Zorua. On the other hand, Amy used to do something similar when she was younger, even if it was with significantly less convincing and successful.

Shossk nods at Iris, then turns to ask the empty air another question. "Howw often can this creature's Movess be used?" Presumably information will flow into Shossk's head once more to let him know that the owl can use all of its Moves 'at-will', there is no limitation. If it wanted, the dartrix could keep throwing razor sharp leaves all day.
Shossk looks down at his dartrix again. With his trainer looking again, he throws another brace of leaves to cut up some more grass, just to make sure. "I wish to ssee your other Moves," Shossk interrupts the owl's show. "Sshow me your Tackle next."
The pair take a minute or two to go down the dartrix's list of Moves, from the mundane Tackle and Peck that function exactly as their names imply, to the more interesting. Of note there was 'Astonish', a Ghost-type Move that caused the dartrix's wing to turn partly ethereal as it quickly struck the training dummy. 'Air Cutter' led to the dartrix summoning a small gale, and the dummy seeming to receive small cuts from the wind itself.
The demonstrations of the dartrix's Moves over, Shossk nods at the owl and turns to Iris again. "You knnow of these creatures. Do you know tthe particulars of this one?" Shossk asks, gesturing to the owl.

Yoko tilts her head quizzically at the first of her "classes": "Backpacker". Judging it based on name, Yoko got a feeling that the "class" had something to do with travelling or storage, and upon investigating the class further, discovered that it actually provided a myriad of boosting effects. Increased chance of success, being adept with weapons when otherwise shouldn't be, gaining damage reduction against "Critical Hits", and a few others that Yoko couldn't understand, but could guess that they were boosting effects. Putting that confusing class aside for the moment, Yoko looked up her second "class", "Fashionista", and discovered that this one was exactly as it implied. She could create clothes and accessories, and style herself or any of her companions to look better. Speaking of the latter, it turns out that she actually has that one active right now, with it treating her as having "Elegant Fashion" equipped, whatever that means. Separated from the classes Yoko saw that she also had a "Smith Rank 1", and looking into that she discovered she could create weapons, shields, and armor.
Before Yoko could delve further into her classes, she was snapped out of her deep thinking by Iris, who was calling out to her. "Huh? Wha? Oh, uh, right!" she fumbled over her words, but did as she was told and set Bang down on the ground. "Um, one of your moves was 'Lock-On', right? Try using that on that dummy over there," Yoko directed her Remoraid, pointing over to the training dummy closest to them. Bang turned his eyes away from his trainer to look over at the training dummy his trainer was pointing at, and his eyes narrowed as he locked on to the target, though from an outsider's perspective it just looked like he was staring really hard at the dummy. Not sure if it worked or not, Yoko looked over at Iris and asked, "did it work?"

Iris turned to Shossk and then to Yoko as both asked her questions. Shossk asked about a Pokemon she knew even less of than Zorua. She had never seen a Dartrix before. Actually, she wasn't even sure if she heard of Dartrix before, but her mind told her that the Pokemon was, indeed, native to her world. Yoko, meanwhile, asked a question she wasn't quite sure how to answer. Her first reaction was to shrug in a, "I dunno. What do you think?" manner but she held the urge back in favor of being more reasonable.
She began with the easier question. After some concentration, information on Dartrix's category floated into her head. "Dartrix is categorized as the Blade Quill Pokemon," Iris let Shossk know, "Ah, and they generally dislikes getting dirty."
"As for You-ko," Iris punned, a hand scratching her head as she tried to figure out how to handle Yoko's question. It was easy enough to solve if she simply channeled the Remoraid. The whole shrugging thing would have mostly just been a joke... of some sort. That, and... Iris wanted to tone down on the channeling for now. From what she knew of the move Lock-On, though, it certainly looked like the Remoraid was doing it right, so her answer was, "Well, Lock-On is a move that guarantees the next hit. Your Remoraid looks focused. If Bang has any low accuracy moves, you should ask him to use it next. If not, then try struggling. Struggle is generally not as accurate as most moves. At least, I know I avoided using it whenever I could. Oh, by the way. Struggle is how a Pokemon attacks when it isn't using any moves."
While Yoko figured things out, Iris glanced over to make sure Layl and Nacht were doing okay. Watching everyone with their Pokemon definitely made Iris miss her own team. It sort of tempted her to bring her own Zorua out... but only sort of. She would sort out her problems with her Zorua when they were alone and probably in the kitchen so the Pokemon could eat something. Right now, she felt busy enough just answering everyone's questions, let alone settling her own.

Yoko once again repressed the urge to groan at Iris for her terrible pun. Looking over the information for each move in her head, Yoko couldn't tell if any of Bang's moves had low accuracy or not, though one of them conveniently told her that it couldn't miss (that one was labelled "Swift"). Figuring that it couldn't hurt to try, Yoko looked back at the dummy, then to Bang. "Okay, um, try using Water Gun on that dummy," she then instructed, once again pointing at the same training dummy. Bang's eyes narrowed and he fired what appeared to be a very powerful blast of water at the training dummy. Bang used Water Gun on Training Dummy. Cannot miss as per Lock-On. Checking for Critical Hit, rolled a 6 (No Critical Hit). Rolling 2d6+38, got a 4 and 2. Water Gun is therefore doing 44 Water-Typed Special Damage. Here's a link to the roll itself.

"Hmm," Shossk acknowledges, glancing at the dartrix. The owl just looks at him expectantly.
"Wwhat of orders and Type mmatchups?"

Iris would have smiled at Yoko's groan if it hadn't been repressed. That was the charm of puns, after all. While Iris appreciated the strength of Bang's water gun, Shossk called out to her with a request to move onwards. He and his Dartrix seemed to have finished everything involving moves, and it appeared that Yoko and her Bang were starting to get the hang of moves themselves even if they weren't that far away. On the other hand, Layl appeared to have been delayed a little. Iris cast a worried glance at the other Zorua trainer, wondering if maybe she shouldn't have clued Layl into the Zorua's real intent so soon. <Maybe I should have let her figure it out herself, like I had originally intended,> she worried, but it was useless. What was done was done. Besides, two was the perfect number for the next demonstration.
"Alright, Yoko! You're doing well with moves. Come over here for a bit and I can explain about the next step," Iris called over the other girl to join her as she met up with Shossk. Once everyone had gathered, there was a short pause. A moment of silence for Iris to finish gathering her thoughts. Doing and teaching, after all, were different from each other. After deciding how she would approach this lesson, Iris looked up at both Yoko and Shossk and started the explanation, "Okay, so we're going to talk about Orders now. In a sense, what you were doing right now was giving orders, as you were ordering your Pokemon to use certain moves. However, there's a little more to Orders than just that. When a trainer properly Orders their Pokemon, their Pokemon fight slightly better than they would have without that Order. It's a mix of trust in their trainer and having a second mind figure out what to do so the Pokemon can focus on the doing. Of course, a proper Order takes a little more time, be it thinking or speaking, than just blurting out a move name, so it means that you won't have much time to do your own thing in a fight. I recall that the people I used to travel with didn't use Orders most of the time because they were busy Head Smashing or Fairy Punching, but it's a good lesson to learn for when you don't have anything else to do." To differentiate, Iris put more emphasis on the word "Order" than the word "order" to demonstrate that while the two shared the same word, she meant slightly different things for each.
For the moment, Iris stopped there. She sounded like she was done, but the little frown she had on her face and the way one hand was crossed over her chest while she gnawed on the index finger of another showed all the telltale signs of someone thinking. Much more difficult than explaining what orders are was explaining how to form a basic order, something that was never taught because everyone eventually shaped their own style as they got older, usually by the time they were done with elementary school. It was that simple, but she still felt like she needed to explain it. Of course, because it was so simple and something she naturally came to learn, the words to explain were hard to find.

Shossk's head rises marginally. "I amm familiar with thiss strategy. The lleader of my party directs us inn combat. He focuses our sstrikes and combines our efforts to bee more efficient." And while Torvin didn't do the most damage himself, he enabled the main damage-dealers, usually Veska and Shossk, to strike more accurately and more often. It was an indirect form of offense that proved more effective than Torvin simply being a more skilled combatant himself. Wasting no time, Shossk turns to his dartrix. Rather, he would like not to waste time, but Shossk had never given combat orders before. He certainly wasn't a skilled commander like Torvin. Instead of giving orders, Shossk opens his mouth, blinks, then closes his mouth again. Instead Shossk faces the training dummy, leaving the dartrix tilting his head. The immediate question that came to mind was 'what would Torvin do in this situation?' Though that question was irrelevant. Shossk was not Torvin and lacked his skill. The question then becomes 'what would Shossk do in this situation?' He would fire his bow at the enemy himself. However, that defeats the purpose of this training. That must be the wrong question, then. What would be the right one? What order would Shossk give to another to make them more effective? Shossk suddenly turns back to the dartrix. The question wasn't 'what would Shossk do', it was instead 'how does Shossk fight?' "You mmust strike where the enemy iss most vulnerable. Aimm your Razor Leaf for the head and neck."The dartrix blasts off from the ground to swoop in towards the dummy again. This time, though, the razor sharp leaves he fires from his wings all hit their mark. A half-dozen leaves embed themselves in the dummy's blank face and another half-dozen cleave straight through the neck, leaving the dummy's head tilting precariously with what little material connects it to the body. The dartrix falters and drops to the ground, head spinning to Shossk with wide eyes in amazement. Shossk blinks, too, not responding right away. The creature had followed his directions, and the results were immediate and impressive. A subtle... warmth? A pleasant and uplifting feeling crept into Shossk's inner being. It was similar to satisfaction and also similar to the contentment one feels when receiving praise. He nodded at the dartrix. "You have done wwell," he compliments the dartrix flatly. The dartrix turns a little away and waves Shossk away with a wing, happily. Psh, it was nothing, really. Shossk blinks, not really understanding the dartrix's beheavior. He then turns to Iris. "Iss that what you intended?"

Layl continued to pet the poor thing but acquiesced to Iris suggestion. She thought about what Zorua should know and let her mind find the answer.
Nacht, on the other hand stopped his crying altogether, and began to nuzzle Layl affectionately. It's about time he got the love he deserved. Even though he was being rude he was just wanting his masters affection. After all, if he really wanted to mess with her he'd make some illusions to horrify her.

Iris was actually clapping after that show by Shossk and his Dartrix, clapping and smiling while her eyes remained wide with surprise. When Shossk had started giving orders, she had put aside thinking so that she could watch what Shossk was doing. She was not disappointed. "I'm impressed, Iris admitted in congratulations, "An attack like that, we would call it a critical hit where I come from. Well, more like crit, which is a shorter way of saying it. They're hard to pull off, and you need to be lucky, but it looks like your Order style focuses on hitting that sweet spot." That wasn't the only reason why she was impressed. Shossk had managed to figure out his style of Orders and how to give them without Iris having to figure out how to explain it. She was grateful that was the case.

An image pops into Layls head showing Nacht's statistics. It zooms in to focus on the moves that he knows along with their types and some information on the strength and accuracy of each.

"Fake Tears? Really? That's a move?" Layl was far more confused than angry, in fact she was just annoyed that Nacht had tricked her, but she had asked for it. "Why are Fake Tears a move? Just...why?" She muttered to herself. Layl understood that it's effect had a point, but why was crying an effective way to weaken your opponent? Especially if you're enemies, It would stop herself in a fight, but why would it effect someone evil at heart? Layl tried to process this information but she just couldn't figure it out.
She put him down and gave him a pat on the head,She had asked for it, after all, so she had no right to complain. Most of his moves seemed pretty normal, Scratch and Fury Swipes being just claw attacks and Pursuit having an interesting extra effect. The Dark typing concerned her, but she was far more concerned with her own Shade Caller than his affinity. You can't help if you're naturally good at it, after all. "If what the statistics say in my head are right, your moves are stronger than mine, so I guess we can fight together, What do you say?"The little guy responded with a loud Yip and wagging his tail. She took that as a yes.

Yoko listened attentively to what Iris had to say about Orders, and then silently watched Shossk put that learning into practice with great success. After witnessing that display, Yoko tried to put some serious thought into what she could say to encourage Bang, but she wasn't sure what to say. She wasn't used to giving out orders to others, and was far more comfortable with following the orders she was given. Especially if they were from Shisho. He would know exactly what to say in this scenario, and Yoko always trusted Shisho's judgement. Then Yoko stopped. Wait, that's it! I'll say something that Shisho would say! Now that she had an idea of what to say, Yoko turned back to Bang with a determined look.
"Okay, Bang, I'm going to tell you something I was once told, so listen up," she started, kneeling down so she was closer to Bang. "When you're on the stage, you're bound to see distractions. Distractions can lead to mistakes, and we want to avoid making mistakes. But that doesn't you should be scared about making mistakes. If you do end up making a mistake, then pretend as if that's what you intended to do. It's not a mistake then. Keep this in mind, and you will succeed," Yoko instructed her Remoraid, feeling a little nostalgic as she said these words. Shisho had told her those words when she first started out in the Drama Club, and she had kept them close to her heart ever since. Bang, meanwhile, was unsure of what Yoko was trying to convey. Was she trying to be inspirational, or telling him to be more focused? Which was it?
