Miguel kept his face deliberately impassive other than shooting Kuchi a flatter look upon hearing Mother's deduction from what Kuchi said. Really Kuchi, really? Granted, Mother was sharp and it wasn't just the spikes in her outfit or the heels she was somehow wearing without problem on a mountain path.
"Miguel-sama, you haven't told her yet and she guessed?" Kuchi snickered. "You haven't been keeping secrets well. Still, this tough lady might know the boss-man. Who are you again?"
"Kuchi, that was all you." Miguel deadpanned back. "I'm not the one openly speaking about things, but apparently you're my mouthpiece now. Supposedly."
"No need to worry boys. I've worked with Yakuza before. Well, not exclusively. Freelance underground medical work. Patched up my fair share of hooligans to pay for college. Kuchi, I think I pulled 3 bullets out of you actually."
Mother smiles to Kuchi, and then gives a stern stare at Miguel
"Now, I don't really mind Yakuza, or anyone like that, but it would be naive of me to just trust that you're one of the ones with a sense of morality. I'll ask you once, and if you tell the truth, I promise not to hold it against you, or do anything to put you at risk. Are you someone I can really trust?"
Kuchi brightened up. "Oh hey, it's you! Thanks for that, by the way!" He would have begun small talk to catch up to the doctor that saved his life, but then he became quiet when she asked his charge that of all questions. He looked at Miguel questioningly, wondering how he was going to respond since he knew the kid enough to know that he wasn't the honorable sort like the Japanese.
Miguel on his end looked at her for a long moment, the deadpan look becoming a cool neutral one. There were many avenues of lying, but the best in his former line of work knew that the most effective people knew when to use a lie and not do it all the time.
This time... was the time to test the waters, not lie. She already knew his association with the Yakuza anyway, though not his real allegiance.
"You can trust me as long as our goals align." It was the best he could honestly offer her and it was the best he could give. He may not be the honorable sort, but he still had a thieves' code of honor, for all that was worth. "...and you? Are you someone we can really trust?"
Mother stares you down, examining you to your core. The silence is loud. The rustling of creatures, the wind disrupting the trees, it's all very tense. Then suddenly, she smiles.
"It's good that you don't trust me. You should never just trust somebody in your line of work really. Lucky for you I gave up on those pursuits long after college. It's funny really. For 8 years I stitched together killer and gangsters, then suddenly I turn into a guardian of a number of wayward kids, teaching them to be something better than I was. I guess that's the best that I can offer you in terms of trust. You don't need to worry about me, because my goals are all about keeping them safe. Easter, Sparrow, the others, they're what matter to me more than anything, and despite the implications, I've never known Yakuza to mess with kids. As long as that remains consistent, I'll have no need to ever cross you."
Mother offers her hand warmly. Her smile remains, genuine and kind.
As Suzume and Sparrow exit the break room, they open the door to find the guard just about to enter. Both parties look perplexed, as they try and process the situation. Sparrow's the first to comprehend, but only by mere fractions of a second. He tries to run off the other direction, but the guard manages to catch him by the collar. Sparrow squirms for release, but to no avail.
"GRr! Let me go!"
"Uh uh! No way! Brandishing a weapon?! How'd you even get that in here? Hand it over! Now!"
"I don't have a weapon! Let me go!"
"Oh sure, you don't have one. We can do this the easy way or the hard way kid"
"Let me go!!"
"Fine, hard way"
The guard starts searching Sparrow's jacket and pants pockets for the knife, but somehow doesn't find anything more than a phone, velcro wallet, and a few small anime keychains. He looks confused and irritated, then looks to Suzume
Suzume frowns as the guard hoists Sparrow, but is surprised when he really doesn't find the kids knife. Shit, did he hide it on me at some point? "He hasn't given me anything, see?" She inverts her pockets as she says this, showing her phone and wallet.
The guard is baffled as there is in fact no weapon on either of the minors. He get into Sparrow's face as thinks aren't going his way
"WHERE IS IT?!"
I don't have anything!"
"THEN WHY WERE YOU RUNNING!"
"Because I don't trust an armed individual that couldn't pass the mental evaluation required to be an actual cop!"
The guard is livid after the well versed burn, and throws Sparrow to the ground. Sparrow hits the ground hard, getting a decently sized gash on his forehead.
"This area is off limits. Get out of here now!"
Sparrow picks himself up and walks out. As the two of make your way down the forest path, Sparrow will stop abruptly, look around, and head to some bushes, where he grabs a ziploc bag full of knives. He puts them back on his person, and heads back to the group with Suzume
Suzume glares at the guard as they leave. How dare he. Way to prove him right about failing psych eval! She mentally rants.
When Sparrow retrieves the knives she lets out an exasperated sigh "For a second there I thought you really might have stashed it on me somewhere." She shakes her head "That guards an ass but you still probably shouldn't wave those around in public places."
She walks a few more paces down the path away before laughing and saying back to Sparrow "That was a pretty nice burn you served."
Sparrow tries to look at his own gash, almost like he forgot about it completely
"Oh, ya this is fine, I've got way worse."
Sparrow lifts his shirt just above his abdomen to reveal a collection of deep purple bruises, scars that look like they've come from large knives, and a few bandaged areas. He seems to be . . . experienced.
Miguel stared at her back unflinchingly as her eyes seemed to pierce straight through his core despite a part of him wanting to back off. They remained in their stare-down, neither backing down until a smile from her made him blink.
Her words caught him off-guard for a moment before he remembered Sparrow's moniker for her - mother. A pediatrician caring for both her patients and the waywards in her supervision. Was it any wonder that she got her moniker? Still, he wasn't about to call her that out loud - that'd be weird and a little wrong on his end.
At her last statement though, he was silent for a long moment before his eyes softened and he took her hand and gave it a firm shake. "The same to you, Dr. Tavarez. It would be nice to remain friends with someone like you."
Off to the side, Kuchi was wiping away a manly tear at the display of beautiful friendship. His charge was growing less evil and more like a human being by the day. Wonderful.

Hi there! I'm Seya, a 24 y.o. editor in Atlantic Canada. I enjoy writing, reading, webcomics, art, worldbuilding, and video games (I can talk for ages about SotC and Monster Hunter...). Although I'm relatively new to playing Pokémon Tabletop via forum, I've been putting together sites like this for a long time, and I'm really excited to work with you all to create an awesome environment for Pokémon roleplay. While my job here is primarily to keep the site running smoothly, I'm always happy to chat, offer advice, and deal with any problems you run across. Let me know if I can be of any help. Inbox is always open! Cheers! xx :)
Hello! I'm Sly, the East Coast mod representative! I'm a 22 year old tax accountant who is exactly as exciting as that sounds, I'm sure. PTU is my major hobby, I run several games (of which the Geode games are my pet project), and I read a disgusting amount of fanfiction. I've been a member of the community for about a year, consider myself more GM material than player material, and am dedicated to helping make your time here enjoyable! If there's ever anything you need, don't be afraid to send me an owl! (Or a PM, I guess, if that works better for you.)
Hey there! I’m DataNinja, the West Coast representative. I'm the most active Staff member on here, so if you need something, try giving me a poke first, and I'll see if I can help sort out your problem. Always happy to help!
(1 May 2015): "For our first pack, we’re focusing on utility character options. Hopefully, this will give you both interesting insights into our dev process as we make changes over time and another focused avenue to give us feedback on what you’d like to see out of PTU."
People are out there, yes, but if you're looking for a game, sorry to say that things seem to be winding down overall. There's basically been... 3 games in the last 2 years, none of which got off the ground.

It's very slow, yes. You'll probably finish working on your game before one pops up here, and if you create a recruitment for it you can expect to be swarmed with applicants.

New games seem to open up slowly here, but if new people are still welcome, I don't mind waiting around (or working on my own). It looks like there's some useful stuff to browse in the meantime.

Keep an eye on the recruitment area of this website. They're rare nowadays, but any new games that crop up will show up there. If it's a live game you want though, you're outta luck.

but how else do i find games then?

Sounds to me like they weren't a group you'd want to be part of anyway.

Basically, GMs post recruitments in the appropriate section, and then players apply to the open games. Unfortunately, there has been a rather... small amount of games posted lately, but there's one currently recruiting right now.
