"Brandon, you say?" Hala says, cocking an eyebrow curiously. "He's been known to attack people with supernatural powers without provocation, and he has a small army of Magnemite and Magneton to back him up. You got lucky in your encounter with him if he didn't hurt you." He directs this last remark to Kane.

"Everybody here sure is lively." Elise tried to change the subject to a more positive note.
"Ryuki at least seemed alright." She added.

"Well, "alright" is a bit relative, but he wasn't dangerous to anything except our eardrums." Ira chips in. "Though I get the feeling there's more to it that there seems. Call it a hunch."

"The guy literally tried to win our sister in a pokemon battle. He's clearly insane in the membrain. And don't worry grandpa! Brandon's supervillain name is just BRANDON. There's no way something lame like that could ever really hurt me."

Hala nods, but doesn't press the issue. He takes another bite, swallows, and says "Kukui tells me you plan to take the Island Challenge. Is this true?"

"That's right, Professor Kukui already gave us our trainer passports." Elise said before diving back into her food.

Ira nods. "We figured it couldn't hurt - gives us something to do, we can see the islands, see what we can find."
Especially that last one. He thinks to himself.

Hala nods and says "I see. Well, if you wish to move on to the other islands, you'll have to do this one first. In order to pass the Melemele Island trial, you'll have defeat my Pokemon in an official battle." He looks at all of you once before continuing: "But before you can face my Pokemon, you'll have to complete a challenge that I lay down. Only when it has been completed to my satisfaction will you earn the right to face my Pokemon. But not right now," he says, waving his hand as he sees you mentally begin to prepare yourselves for tomorrow. "You've had a long trip and a busy first day. Get some rest, and explore the island. The challenge won't be going anywhere, and neither will I."

"That's sounds like a good idea!" Elise said as energetic as always.
"What's the challenge?" Elise asked curiously.

Hala sits back, suppresses a belch, and says "If you explore this island enough, you'll notice that the behavior of the local Rattata and Raticate population is getting a little out of hand. While it would be easy for me to charge in with my Pokemon, or for islanders to unleash Yungoos and Gumshoos into their dens, there's likely an underlying cause. I'd like you to find that cause, and put a stop to it. Bring back conclusive proof that the problem is solved, and you'll earn the right to challenge me." Say, weren't Brandon and company testing a machine to control Pokemon minds?

Kane had just finished inhaling what would normally be an absurd amount of food for a boy his size.
"That sounds like a LOOOOOOT of work for 3 kids just to earn the right to even challenge you, . . . BUT I'M IN!! But maybe I'll be more in tomorrow. I'm tired for today. Where do we sleep?"

As you finish your meals, Machamp gathers up the dishes as Hala stands. "Kane will be sleeping with Hau. Ira gets one guest room, and Elise can sleep in the other one." Hau looks at Kane excitedly. "We get to be together? You know what this means, right?"

"Oh boy..." Elise said as she could guess what her brother would say. Hopefully the walls are soundproof. Then again, she could make just as much noise with her guitar if necessary. At the very least Elise was glad to have a room alone, which she most certainly wouldn't have had at uncle Sam.

Kane squees with anticipation, grabs Hau by the wrists, and starts dragging Hau to what he assumes is hau's room

Ira shrugs. "Suits me fine. Though I'd invest in some earplugs if I were you, Uncle Hala - I'm used to Kane's midnight binges, but it can get a little noisy. Still, appreciate the room."
'Specially since I don't know how much sleep I'll be getting. He thinks, itching to get a closer look at that book.

After clearing away the dishes, you retire to your rooms. The guest rooms aren't much to look at- basic decoration, bed, nightstand, and wardrobe- but at least it's private. Hau's room has a hammock instead of a bed, and a sleeping bag on the floor for Kane. It has a TV and the walls are covered in Nio posters. As Kane and Hau get ready, Hau pulls three Pokeballs out of his pockets and releases the Pokemon inside them, saying "Come on out, guys! Nio marathon!" His first Pokemon looks like a hooded archer mixed with some kind of bird. His second is a big-eared Pokemon, asleep and clutching a small log. The final one looks like a Raichu, but it stands upon its tail and floats in midair, looking almost like a surfer. Hau's Pokemon

Elise's room overlooks the long beach, the moon glistening upon the ocean beautifully. The stars here seem so clear- much unlike Uncle Stan's cabin in the woods, or even back home. And beyond- Hau'oli City, glittering with a million points of light. There is so much inspiration for a song here... *** Ira's room looks inland, over the darkened island, and even features a desk that he can sit at. The darkness beyond the house allows for all kinds of stirrings of the imagination. Who knows what dangers lurks in the jungles of this tropical heart of darkness? If Nihilego, Brandon, and the psychic twins are any indication, quite a bit of danger. Now, to get your answers...

Ira nods approvingly at the set-up. He gets the distinct impression that Hala set the room up specifically to cater to his... wary tendencies, but he's not about to complain. After all, that's only a bad thing if those tendencies are wrong and that seems unlikely.
Well, even more unlikely than usual.
Before he sits down, he looks over to the door. He'd rather people didn't burst in and surprise him, but he can't exactly lock the door and, even if he could, that'd be suspicious.
So, after a moment's consideration, he takes his shoes of and puts one of them in front of the door. It won't stop anyone opening it - that'd be dangerous - but it'll mean they'll have to take a moment to push it open. A moment he can use to hide the book.
After that and one more sweep around the room for bugs, mundane or mystical, he sits down at the desk and cracks open the book.

After she finished packing out her last things she let out Daisy and Blossom from their pokéball.
"A lot happened today, didn't it?" She said while walking towards the guitar case at the wall. While passing through window she could only think about how the city reflect the shiny stars above, almost the same like the ocean when it was calm.
She picked up her guitar after she was done and played a few chords after sitting down on the bed.

As Elise plays her guitar, she notices that chords and songs she had trouble with seemed to flow more easily now; Blossom and Daisy sit, enraptured by her sudden skill. As Elise finishes, she notices a creature, seeming to grow out of her shadow, mimicking her movements. As it realizes Elise notices it, the creature stops mimicking her and cowers, as though expecting to be hit.
