As they had walked, Mikel had mostly followed behind the old man and the maiden on the Ponyta. When the man stopped, Mikel stepped a few steps after as he glanced around wondering why the delay. When the man suddenly fired an attack at nothing, Mikel's right hand reached under his cloak and put his hand on the sword hidden on his left hip and moved so he was beside the Ponyta. When the multitude of glyphs started appearing, his eyes quickly scanned the battlefield. The closest ones were just ahead and to his right. He shifted slightly so that he would be between them and the maiden while drawing the blade from under his cloak. After all, what type of hero wouldn't try to shield a maiden from harm? He probably would not have been one to attack right off the bat, but with other attacks hurled, the group of them surrounded, and the old man requesting aid, now was not the time to ask questions. "Lia, can you get that one back there? I'll handle the closer one." Mikel said as the Kirlia glanced between Mikel and the Ponyta, noting the extra steps her trainer had taken. However, she shrugged and waved a hand at the strange glyph Mikel had noted. The odd looking Kirlia glew black and a strange wave of dark energy flew at the gyph. Mikel, meanwhile, quickly swung his sword in a precise strike at the creature next to him. He didn't know what it was, but at the very least he didn't want to step too far from the maiden. Mikel plans to attack K6 with Feint Attack (Rogue version). He auto-hits, but not a crit. Damage=28 dark physical Lia plans to attack N6. She uses dark type confusion and rolls 16+1 to hit, and 37 dark special damage
Conditionals: If an attack is tossed at 'the fair maiden' Mikel will intercept cause he is an idiot and doesn't know he is squishy. Stupid hero complex... Difficulty depends on where she is at time. Due to crap rolls he can't intercept unless she is within two meters. Thanks dice. Any other conditionals need to see where people move to see if he shifts before attacking <.< Cause yes he plans to white knight and goal is stay close as possible while also attacking these things.
Edit: With the seeing where people shift, Mikel shifts to J5 before attacking

static.zerochan.net/Esmeralda.(Notre.Dame).full.973982.jpg With a defiant look in his eyes and puffs of smoke trailing from his muzzle, Apollo whinnied loudly at the sudden appearance of the floating glyphs that surrounded them. Elizabeth, herself, was at a lost as she turned her head to meet their one-eyed gaze, her brow furrowing in mystified confusion. Never had she seen such creatures in her life before. Questions mounting, she turned her gaze to Matthaeus with her lips parting half-way to ask if he knew what they were but his further comments only silenced her quickly. Something was not right. Matching Apollo's defiance, she glared at the assembled ambush in front of them. "Let's go, Apollo!" She shouted as she quickly flicked the reins in her hands. The Ponyta neighed loudly at her command before sprinting off in a dash of flames that covered him and his owner towards the levitating glyph in the centre of the road. Apollo's Shift Action: Move towards H4 (3 spaces) Apollo's Standard Action: Flame Wheel on H4. AC2(17), for 29 damage. Does not cause burn.
Elizabeth's Standard Action: Use Defying Gravity to give +2 CS to Speed and increase Evasion for both Apollo and Elizabeth to 4 due to the effects of Ride as One Feature.

The first to strike is Apollo, his flaming hooves crashing into one of the glyphs, the glyph's strange shape morphing into another, equally strange, as he hit it.
Caervin's mote of light strikes true on the shape, and it begins twisting and turning in midair, before finally settling on a single shape when Kindy hits it. The Growlithe's bite almost seems to be absorbed by the glyph, though, and not deal as much damage as expected.
Prophet launches a brilliant green ball of energy at one shape, and it seems to deal a fair amount of damage to one glyph, as does Lia's malign attack. Both glyphs writhe, almost as if in pain, as they are hit.
Mikel's sword seems to be fairly effective at dealing with the rune, and it too twists when he hits it. None of your Occult Training recognizes any of the shapes that they're forming, though.
The eyes of the glyphs suddenly begin glowing, and they move towards you - save for the one Caervin targeted, who seems disoriented - and they begin unleashing rings of energy from their bodies. Matthaeus and Prophet seem to be the worst off, but Mikel jumps in front of Apollo, causing the Ponyta to do the safe thing and swerve - which also saves him and his rider from the force of the energy ring, though Mikel does get hit with the burning energy. Lia similarly dodges the ring of energy from her opponent.
Matthaeus gets hit by two rings, but so does the glyph in front of him, its shape changing to match the one that hit it. Ominous. The same thing happens with the glyphs near Caervin. The confused one seems worse for wear after the fact, though Caervin and Kindy do take some hits from the energy, their minds hurting, rather than their bodies. Matthaeus simply pulls out a little spray bottle from his robes, and applies it to Prophet.
The Unown resists Caervin's Flirt. Kirlia causes two injuries to her Unown. In total: Mikel takes 32 damage. And no injuries, by the skin of his teeth. The Confused unown takes an injury from its partner. Caervin and Kindy each take 10 damage.

static.zerochan.net/Esmeralda.(Notre.Dame).full.973982.jpg As the lights of the mysterious runes circled in front of her, Elizabeth braced herself for the oncoming wave by nestling herself into the neck of Apollo, screwing her eyes shut in preparation. Someone else, however, had other plans. Apollo whinnied greatly as he was suddenly made to swerve out of the way of the incoming human who took the brunt of the hit. Elizabeth hearing of Apollo's distress opened her eyes to find themselves out of harm's way and Mikel in, what she could only assume as, pain. "What the-?" She shouted. "Mikel, what do you think you're doing?!"With a click of her heels on Apollo's sides, they dashed forth to the injured man as one of her hands delved deep into her medical bag, frantically searching for a Super Potion to use. As Elizabeth grasped the medicinal bottle in her hand, she popped open the cap before stretching her arm out with it to Mikel's side as they approached him. "Don't try and be a hero, idiot." She said as they quickly circled around him, applying the ointment to his wounds. Once that was finished she took Apollo's reins into both of her hands once more, galloping to the rune Mikel had saved them from. Elizabeth's Shift Action: Using Apollo's Movement Capabilities, Shift to I5. Elizabeth's Standard Action: Apply Super Potion to Mikel. Heal 35 Hit Points, you idiot.
Apollo's Shift Action: Shift towards I4. Apollo's Standard Action: Use Stomp on H4. AC 2 (4). If it hits 36 + 10, if the Unowns are Small.

As the bursts of energy hit Mikel, he grunts. It hurt, but at the same time he could take it. He'd taken plenty of hits before, especially during his time growing up. He kept the sword up and glanced over his shoulder to make sure the maiden was alright. When she moved over and offered the healing thing, he started to resist and assure her he was fine, but it was clear she wasn't going to buy that lie. Instead he nodded, "Thanks, Eliza." He said with a nod, "Sorry to inconvience you." He said as she moved to attack the rune. He was about to lift the sword when he felt the rage starting to build inside of him. He quickly took a deep breath to try and push it down. Sure, he had been hurt, but his injuries had been treated and they could do this just fine without him being hurt. Taking the moment to catch his breath from the rush of moving quickly to intercept the attack, Mikel instead kept an eye on Eliza. Not being a hero was simply against his nature, though at the same time he wasn't quite sure how to continue doing so without risking offending her. He had seen her bracing herself and closing her eyes though. She certainly had been less use to pain then he was. Pain only pushed him to fight harder. Meanwhile, Lia glared daggers at the woman on the Ponyta. It was HER job to heal Mikel! It was HER that he should have been taking hits for! Annoyance filled the Kirlia as she teleported in between the two strange pokemon near her. She had wanted to take out the cluster, but that would have let the other two go after her master and while the idiot probably deserved a bit of extra pain for not paying attention to her she didn't want to have him jumping around trying to look good again. Plus, she didn't really care about the old guy at all. Once she had teleported between them, Lia let out a cry as waves of pink heart shaped energy bursted out around her hitting everything around her. Lia teleports to K7 and auto-hits everything in a burst around her (Unown at K6 and K8) One Unown takes 36 special fairy damage, other takes 28 special fairy damage

"No good. Kindy, focus!" Caervin said, flinching back. He didn't want this. He didn't sign up to be attacked by mysterious enemies and watch as his odd companions moved about in combat like it was the most natural thing in the world. "Do you even know how to be friendly?" he asked the pokemon up in his face tauntingly, frustration mounting. No. This was too much. Kindy lunged forward and slammed her head against the monster that had come up into Caervin's face. Caervin Standard: Focused Orders. Swift: Taunt on k12 Unown. It's now Enraged. Shift: Disengage to j11.
Kindy Standard: Iron Head AC3 (m20) on k12 Unown. It is flinched and takes 35 physical Steel damage. Shift: Disengage to k10.

Now that everyone has their momentum going, the glyphs begin falling like wheat before the scythe. First, Apollo jumps and stomps on one, while Lia takes out another two with her kindled fury. Two near Prophet fall surprisingly easy to his Air Cutter, and the remnants of Caervin's disorienting attack, combined with friendly fire, takes out another glyph. As they fall down, the symbols dissolve before they hit the ground. The remaining symbols hit Mattaeus again, before he jumps backwards, stumbling a little, as well as Caervin, who feels the energy ring slamming into his body this time, rather than his mind. A lot of Unown Faint. Caervin takes 13 damage from Hidden Power. Map relink.

Kirlia smirked as the two fell before her. Those who had attacked them would soon be fallen. A shame since she had yet to find the optimal chance to show off her master's dark rage. However, there was always next time. She teleported to the side to try and get a clear shot at the last creature before releasing another burst of dark energy. Meanwhile, Mikel moved toward the other Unown and swung his sword in a quick precise thrust hoping to finish this creature off before it could hurl attacks at any of his allies. Mikel shifts to F10. (To explain how that's 6m diagonal say movement is 1-2-1-2. He goes to H6 then H7 for 3, H8 for 1, then straight down 2) and once again uses Feint Attack.
Feint Attack, auto-hits, 29 dark physical damage.
Kirlia teleports to M10 (or anywhere where bodies aren't in the way) to get a clear line of sight and fires a dark confusion Critical hit, (so 20 vs 2+evasion), 54 dark special damage

Once the glyph was crushed beneath Apollo's hooves, its tiny little eye dissolving into nothing, Elizabeth steered themselves around before racing forth to the remaining glyphs that still survived. With Elizabeth's encouraging yell and a flick of the reins, Apollo galloped quickly forth, jumping over Mikel and then Mattaeus to land squarely in front of the Seer. "Are you alright, Mattaeus?" She first asked to the man behind her with a slight worry in her voice as her eyes stared intently on the rune to the left of them whilst Apollo did the same. Their was a fire burning within her, a directed anger towards the mysterious glyphs that had hurt her current compatriots. With a burst, the directed rage bloomed in the middle of her right palm, flickering intensely. As she raised it, ready to hail it towards the rune, Apollo began to spew his own flames from his muzzle before they both launched them. Apollo's Shift Action: Jump over Mikel and then Mattaeus to land on I9.
Apollo's Standard Action: Use Ember on G10. AC 2(5), for 20 damage.
Elizabeth's Standard Action: Use Flame Burst on G10. AC 2(19), for 25 damage.

Caervin stumbled backwards, clutching at his abdomen in pain. Kindy leaps in front of him and snarls viciously at the Unown, just before Kirlia's weird dark blast hits it. "Th-thank you," he mumbles, and swallows hard. "I think I'm gonna be sick. What were those?..."Caervin disengage to I12, Kindy to J11. Kindy uses Roar. Hopefully that won't mess up Kirlia's position too much.

"Whoa, girl, what are you doing?" Mattaeus cries, ducking only seconds before Apollo leaps off the ground. The combined fury of the pair of combatants is...well, probably enough to roast a couple of marshmallows, at least. The second attack doesn't seem to be quite as effective as the first, though. Prophet finishes that glyph off with another dark orb, while Lia takes out the last one on the other side. Yay! Experience Get! Gain 40xp, at least half must go to Pokémon that battled. "Well, thanks guys. We should probably head on to my place, now that we've finished off those distractions. And hope that there aren't many more out there. And...as to what those are? Trouble. I don't know where they come from but they just started appearing soon after the gods fell silent. And...they're like a virus. Leave them alone, and they multiply. Normally, they just float around, invisible, watching... But my gut tells me there's something... not right about them. And that intuition has never been wrong yet. But, no. I can't tell you what they are. They are unknown to me."

"Unknown," Caervin muses, "That seems about right." He calls Kindy back to his side, still trembling a bit from the fight. He wasn't used to getting hit. Or attacked at all, for that matter. Frowning, he looks over at the others to see how they're faring. He'd been too distracted to pay attention to their side of the battle.
After a little while, calming down and brushing himself off a bit--those injuries would heal--he turned back to Matthaeus, a bit more serious this time around. "You sure wherever we're going is safe, sir?"[/color]

With the fight over, Mikel resheathes his sword and moves the cloak back over to cover it. "Strange, I've traveled around and never seen them before. Or heard of them from any studies." Mikel comments, "Is everyone alright?" He asked as Lia walked up to him and lightly kicked him in the back of the boot.

As the adrenaline of battle wound itself out of her, Elizabeth sighed with a sense of relief. She hadn't wrangled any sort of Pokémon since she had left the ranch and, despite not having gained any injuries, her bum slightly ached with the strain of having sat on Apollo for all of it. "They're not your garden variety Ekans that's for sure." She added as she jumped down from her perch before taking Apollo's muzzle into her palms and examining him for any minute injuries. The Ponyta whinnied softly at her care, licking her palms whenever he got the chance. After a careful look through, she nodded, satisfied.
"We're fine over here." She called out to Mikel before turning her gaze to everyone else. It would seem that, aside from her and Apollo, everyone had taken some form of injury or another. A slight frown came upon her lips. Turning her head to Caervin at his comment, she slightly agreed. "I'd like to know that as well. Whilst I'm sure we could handle ourselves, I'd rather avoid another battle if at all possible. And if they are beginning to attack and multiply, wherever it is we go, we should do so quickly."

"I can assure you, son, that there are very few places in Eidola that would be as safe as my house. Well, at least from them." He gives a small chuckle. "Anything else... maybe not. I don't even have a lock on the door. Why bother, it's always open to travelers who come this way. But I can see them. And I know I don't have any in my place." He begins walking back down the path again.
"And, I'm fine..." Matthaeus replies to Mikel, "Just winded. But, I must say, lass..." He turns to Elizabeth, "You gave me a little fright when I saw what you were going to do... Fufufufu. Ah...youth. I remember back in my day, I was always eager to run around, and jump headlong into danger. Why..." Accompanied by Matthaeus' reminiscences, you all walk for about another ten minutes, uneventfully, before coming to a building. "Ah, welcome to my humble abode."
Eh... maybe not so humble. Yes, it may only look like it's made of a few rooms, but it looks more like a small shrine than a house, made of blocks of the same white stone as the rest of the mountain. Ornate reliefs of the deities care carved into some of the blocks. Well, most of them deities. One at the head of the temple, Mew by the looks of it, looks like it's still being worked on, by the looks of all of the tools and scaffolding around it. The windows are all filled with meticulously cleaned stained glass scenes, and the very faint smell of incense floats on the breeze, even from here. THe ornate building is in stark contrast to the solar panels on the roof, and the medium-tall wind turbine behind it.

static.zerochan.net/Esmeralda.(Notre.Dame).full.973982.jpg Elizabeth quickly tuned out Mattaeus dronings as they walked. The glory years of a wizened old man didn't really interest her. With a slight furrow of her brow, deeply did she think back on their encounter just moments ago, of the mysterious runes Caervin aptly named "Unknown." As their name states, they were an unknown to her, an unpredictable variable in her otherwise perfected roadmap to her dreams. Mattaeus had said that there were more of them, much more than the sparse few they had fought. Their numbers were, in his words, multiplying, spreading all over the area like a forest fire, wild and untameable. The stakes of her gamble had just been raised. As they reached the old man's abode, his voice echoing into her ears and detracting her from any further dark train of thought, she could only gape widely at what he considered to be humble. At the sight of the reliefs, of the various gods that were depicted upon the carved stone, her eyes focused on, taking a particular few more seconds to gaze upon the face of the patron of her profession, of Meloetta. "It's... a wonderful home," She first stated slowly as she took a few steps forward, not entirely sure how to word her surprise. Whilst she had expected a shrine of sorts, she had been expecting more one built out of humble wood instead of stone and solar panels. "Do you live here alone, Mattaeus?"

"It is indeed," Mikel said looking over it. "I can't say I've ever been to a shrine of Mew before." He commented. The truth was, he had never felt comfortable in shrines and even when he wanted to learn about the Musketeers hanging outside had always felt more comfortable.

His worry about the Unknown pokemon turned into interest when he laid eyes on Matthaeus' abode. It wasn't quite an ancient ruin, but it had the same feel of mysticism and forbidden treasures. Caervin's fingers itched to run over the carvings on the walls; had he not known that some nice--if not weird--old man was currently residing here, he'd have asked around how much such carvings would sell for.
"Fancy," he admitted under his breath. He wasn't in the habit of relinquishing temples and shrines of their holy treasures, and he could appreciate the decor of this place... but it made him want to get back on the road, and soon. He wasn't the type to settle.
Nevertheless, he'd wait to hear what the old man had to say.

"Well, thanks, lass." he says, with a smile, "It's been a good home to me, and I've spent the last...oh, sixty-odd years prettying it up. I'm almost done the last one, and then my contribution will be complete. My predecessor was the one that added all of the power stuff. I think she was tired of having to keep using candles at night, and that's fair enough. And, yeah, I do live here alone. Never had the time or desire to find a partner. Besides, I get enough visitors to keep me company, but not too many that I can't finish my carving.""Well, it's not so much a shrine, as a place of respect to the gods. For...well, a while, don't really know how long, there's always been at least one Seer drawn to this place. We don't know why, but we always just tidy up the place. And it's not just for Mew. She just gets a more detailed carving as a head of the Pantheon. You can't see it from this angle, but on the other side, there's one to Mewtwo I finished...recently, at least. Not sure how long ago...memory fades fast at this age." "Anyways, you should come inside," he says. "I want to try and get a feel for why you were brought together. Plus, there are those letters addressed to you. Prophet, would you mind getting those? I forget where I put them." The Xatu nods, and flaps towards the house, as you all continue towards the door. The front door is a large slab of wood, looking exactly as one would expect from a building like this... but inside was a different story. It looks like it could have come out of any random house in the city. Except there is a lot more seats than any normal house would have. Presumably Mattaheus has a lot of guests. Or is secretly an interior designer.

Caervin quietly takes a seat in the closest available chair once it's established that they're going to be staying for more than a minute or two. Was this how the settling half lived? Only on rare occasions had he stepped into the homes of city-folk; like Mephisto, he much preferred camping outside under the serene sounds of the night. He felt distinctly uncomfortable.
Sixty years. He could barely comprehend staying in one place for so long-- what happened to a house when you traveled? Would people restrict themselves to a boring life in one place if they owned a house to store all their valuables in? Caervin himself didn't have too many valuables. Money had trumped anything he'd come across in his hunts so far. And that was the way it would probably be for a while yet, he decided.
He looked around, glancing about eagerly for the return of the big Xatu. Who would address a letter to him at this point in his life? It could be good... or really, really bad.
