Julie looks out on the field and hmms a little bit to herself, looking over the five that she could see. Both of the ones playing in the water interested her a bit, and she always loved a chance to practice lobbing pokeballs. She couldn't quite see those last two pokemon that Steven mentioned though. She turns to look at Matt as he speaks up and... blinks quite a few times at him as he takes off his flannel shirt, staring a bit harder than perhaps she should. As he pulls off his beanie and tosses his hair around, her eyes widen a bit and she quickly looks away, blushing a slight bit as she realizes that she's been staring. "I- um... er... Maybe we should uh... sneak up on them first. Gives us more options whether or not we end up deciding to fight or be friendly?" Stupid Orange Islands always being so damn hot, sometimes it got to her head and made it hard to think... yeah that was it, it was the heat. Right. Totally. She fidgets a bit, then awkwardly rolls up the longer sleeves on her shirt, attempting to solve the... heat issue.

Steven nods absently as Julie and Matt talk, eyes focused on the figures sneaking up on the Blitzle. Looks like some trouble is brewing up over there. "Yeah, yeah, you go do whatever," he says absent-mindedly, before briefly turning his head so he's looking at the others, "Listen, I'm gonna check up on that Blitzle over there, make sure whatever is sneaking up on them doesn't hurt it, see if I can catch it or something. I'll catch up to you later or something."With that, he carefully walks off towards the Blitzle, moving slowly and inconspicuously so as to not attract any undue attention. Stealth: 9

As Steven stalks off towards the Blitzle, Matt scratches the back of his head and looks at Val and Julie "Well, looks like its just the three of us."
The young Steel Trainer looks down at his trusty partner, and a slight grimace comes across his face "So, if we wanna try being sneaky, it might be smart for me and Bul to hang back. We sorta draw attention, what with me being loud and him being walking Armor and all"

"I'll stay with Matt," Val says. "The last time I tried wading through grass, I stepped on a Pokémon. So I might as well stay with Jangles here," she gestures to Bulwark, "and make sure that doesn't happen again." Not to mention, with that weight, I doubt he's going to wan to go near the water.

Julie looks back and forth between Steven and Matt/Val. She didn't really want Steven to go off on his own, and he looked like he was at least trying to be a bit stealthy... "I think I'll follow off after Steven then, you guys can do what you want. I call catching at least one of the two playing in the water though!" With that, she skulks off after Steven, trying to catch up with him. Stealth: YcG95VqK2d6 2d6

Julie is able to catch up with Steven as the two make their way stealthily toward the Blitzle, and the shadows only Steven can see. You come to the edge of the grass, just a few feet from the river's edge, and as far as you can tell, you two have gone undetected. Or, at least, none of the pokemon have reacted to you, and you are well clear of them. The Blitzle appears to be resting comfortably by the riverside. It is clearly awake...just inattentive, for the moment. From your current vantage point you cannot see the earlier shadowy shapes. In order to press forward, you will be out in the open, making you easier to detect, but it looks like you can ford the stream here.
Val and Matt, you are able to see them successfully sneak toward the Blitzle without alerting any of the other pokemon. The Sandshrew, Patrat, Hippopotas and Phanpy are all going about their business. What now?

Steven motions for Julie to stay put for the moment, and, while keeping an eye out for the shadowy figures he'd seen earlier, calmly, carefully, walks out of the tall grass and up to the river, Leila's ball in hand in case those figures he'd spotted earlier decided to come out and make trouble. When he reaches the stream, he quickly looks to see how deep it is, before shrugging and wading through. It's warm enough, it'll dry. Once on the other side, he smiles warmly at the Blitzle, intent on making ... it? feel at ease. "Hi there, little fellow. How ya doing?"Perception: 16 Charm: 7

Julie nods at Steven and stays behind in the grass, letting him do his thing. While he does so, she attempts to keep an eye out for those shadows he mentioned earlier, slowly slinking through the grass in a circle around the Blitzle as she does so. Stealth: 10 Perception: 8

As the other two slinked off, Matt looked over at Val before snapping and pointing his finger up "Oh! Maybe instead of just waiting around up here, if we go down there, the Mon would be a bit more distracted by us and they can sneak a bit better" He grinned and nodded "Sounds like a great plan, right? Come on Bul!"
Without waiting for Val to confirm if his plan was indeed great, Matt began to head down towards the river and Pokemon below

"Hey, uh, wait for me..." She says, reluctantly following his lead, though hanging back a little bit, keeping Ajax out by her side. "Lets not go too near the river, though..."

Matt & Val
As you two plod along toward the pokemon, two of them immediately take notice. The Patrat swings around, eyes fixed on you, and squeaks out a warning. The Sandshrew immediately bolts upright, looking in your direction. Neither move, but both are tensely waiting, watching for any sudden moves. The two pokemon in the river seem otherwise occupied.
Julie
You are able to stay undetected in the grass, watching as Steven crosses the river. At first you think you see some movement on the other side of the river, in the edge of the grass, but you are able to dismiss it as being just the wind. Steven looks like he's doing okay for now, though...
Steven
You crossed the river easily enough. Your socks are wet, and the bottoms of your shoes are muddy...but you're in a Safari Zone. These things are to be expected. Getting closer, you are now quite certain that this Blitzle foal is a male. The Blitzle lazily looks over at you, its eyes slowly opening, and it snorts loudly before slowly standing up. It doesn't seem to be particularly bothered by your presence, but your efforts at befriending it do not seem to have been particularly effective.
You are certain, however, that there are two pokemon slinking about in the grass behind this Blitzle. You keep catching glimpses of gleaming eyes, shifting black bodies, and whisking tails. At a guess, these pokemon may be stalking this Blitzle...or stalking you. Seeing this kind of behavior in the grass makes something trigger in the more primal parts of your otherwise educated brain. You begin to feel tense, your perception heightened, and you can feel each individual bead of sweat rolling down your skin. Behind you, what you would've otherwise not noticed over the splashing and gurgling of the creek, you can hear Matt and Val conversing. Your every sense is on edge. Is this what prey feels like?

Steven tenses up as he gets the feeling he's being stalked, and frowns slightly. He releases Leila next to him. "Leila, I'd like some back up please." Somewhat emboldened by the (admittedly overly cheerful) back up, he keeps smiling at the Blitzle. "Okay, bud, I don't wanna startle you, but there's some mon approaching us from the grass over there, so you might wanna get ready to defend yourself or something, 'kay?" As he's talking, his eyes keep slipping back to the grass, trying again to identify the mon sneaking up on him. Charm: 14 Edu: Pokémon: 9

Matt stops when he sees the Mon tense up, before raising his hands up " Don't worry, we're not here to hurt you or anything" Unfortunately, quiet isn't Matt's strong suit, and his voice carried a bit more than he intended in this case A massive 4 on my Charm check

Val lets Matt do his thing... even if it's not exactly what she would've done. Probably best to not get the attention of everything around. Oh, well. Nothing to do but roll with it, now. Instead, she continuously looks from one of the two closest Pokémon to the other, matching their gazes. If one of them is going to make a move, then she wants to be able to react at once, and let Ajax loose.

Not seeing anything in the grass, Julie sighs and slowly stands, wading across the river towards Steven and his maybe new friend. She hears Matt and Val talking nearby, but she assumes they'll be fine on their own. She flashes a quick smile towards the blitzle, watching its reaction to her in case she makes it more uncomfortable, and stopping if she does. While she was doing this, she'd address Steven. "Are you sure something is in the grass? I'm not seeing anything..." Charm on Blitzle: 16

Everything happened quite suddenly.
Almost the same instant Julie questioned what Steven had seen, Steven identified one of the Pokémon hiding in the grass. It was a Litleo, and had come closer after Steven released Leila, who was rocking on her heels obliviously. Now Steven could tell that it was eyeing his little shrub hungrily. It was in position, ready to pounce...and then the other shadow streaked onto the shore.
It was a blur of black, blue and yellow, and slammed into the Oddish, surprising Leila, Julie, and the Blitzle which reared up in surprise. The Litleo'starter eyes flashed and it, too, rushed out of the grass, bashing Leila hard, and pushing it out of the Shinx's reach. The two feline pokemon immediately locked eyes, snarling at one another as each clearly felt that the other had interfered in their hunt.
Leila was pushed quite far back and fell into the river with a splash. The splashing noise immediately drew the attention of the Pokémon in the area, and seeing the scene, they began to appear agitated. The phanpy gave a loud trumpet of its trunk, stamping its feet, and the Hippopotas snapped its jaws at the commotion. Both the Sandshrew and Patrat snapped around, took in the scene, the then turned back to Matt and Val. With a curt, dismissive cry, the Sandshrew began to accelerate his digging efforts significantly, and the Patrat's eyes were fixed on Matt and Bul...

Matt smirks and raises an eyebrow while looking at the Sandshrew "Oh come on now, don't just ignore me like that" His hand moves to his side, resting on Brig's Pokeball "If you don't quit trying to run, I'm gonna have to stop you myself. Neither one of us want that."
He turned to look at Bulwark "Alright Bul, I'm gonna need you to stand back if this gets dirty. I'm not gonna throw you against a Ground type for no reason" He also glanced at Val and smiled "So, maybe this isn't going as well as I had first thought. But hey, nothing more fun than a battle"
Looking back at the Sandshrew, he smiles again "Now then, are we gonna do this the easy way? or the hard way?"

Val sighs at Matt's antics. "Look, if you're trying to stop it from getting away, Ajax can do that. Go get it, Ajax. Don't let that mouse get away." Ajax slithers up to the mouse, and attempts to wrap around it, and stop it in its tracks. Ajax moves to I9. Ajax attempts to Grapple Sandshrew, spending an AP. 5 vs AC 4. In the unlikely event that that hits, 13 Athletics on the grapple check, spending an AP.

Steven starts slightly as suddenly two blurs come out of the grass and head straight for Leila, pushing the poor (if still oblivious) Oddish into the water and injuring her pretty badly. He curses softly, though he's relieved the two felines appear to be more interested in eachother than their potential prey right now. "Leila, stay on your guard, and let's try and relax these two a bit, shall we? Sweet Scent."Steven uses Inspired Training on Leila, +1 Evasion, +2 to save checks till the end of the next turn

Julie blinks in surprise as the two pokemon leap out of the grass, and then begin to compete with... each other. First of all, it was a bit of a shock that they were actually there, she didn't need glasses, did she? She hoped not, she wouldn't look good with glasses. Well, maybe contacts, but those were a hassle. Oh right, battle! Julie quickly reaches to her side and releases her Petilil. "Give me a sec, I may have a command for you, just wanna try something first!" With that, she quickly flicks an empty safari ball out of her bag and into her hand and chucks it hard at the Litleo, the gray sheen of the lock case reflecting the light as it travels through the air before... totally missing. Julie blinks a moment, before giving a muttered "Oops."
