Rei smiles as Tiki seems to have calmed down.
"...No I did not."
She sighs.
"Tiki, I think we are in over our heads with this. We've hit some sort of wall and I don't think we are strong enough, or skilled enough to continue. We did good with the guardian, so we've done some good. We've learned information about why the Zangoose are attacking, and we've learned about the poachers, generally where they are located, and some information about them from Kopi. I suggest that we head back to the guild. We present our findings to Lady Geneneive, and see if anyone else wants to take up the quest. We can have them put a note to talk to us for anyone interested in it, and then we'll have help, or maybe they'll be strong enough to do it themselves. I just want the situation to be resolved, not neccesarily the one who gets credit for it..."

Tiki looks at Rei during her suggestion, and then looks down. "We.....We are gonna give up? Does clay know about this? Sano also went to get help...I don't know...."

Clay finally wanders into the infirmary, but before he gets around to actually seeing the healer he spots Rei and a bandaged-up Tiki and hurries over. "What happened?" he asks, clearly referring to Tiki's state.

"Tiki got into a fight with a trainer that didn't end well for her. She'll be alright, though."
Rei turns to Tiki.
"I'd rather not do it either, and if we can get help I'll gladly come back but..."
Rei trails off and looks to Clay.
"I was suggesting to Tiki that we head back with all the information we've gathered. Maybe someone back at the guild can take over, or come back with us... I don't know. I just feel like we are outnumbered and outclassed, and we'll only keep getting hurt if we continue. I was going to suggest going to find Sano and yourself and then taking off back to Saffron and the Guild tonight."

Clay suddenly turns and slams a fist into the wall. "Why can't we get anywhere? Every time we try to do something people fall all over themselves to get in our way! We try to rescue the girl with the sword and the crazy lady kidnaps her, the thief disappears the minute our back is turned after we spent like an hour just trying to find her... we don't even really have any information on the poachers! We know they walk through that one place sometimes, and that they guard their camp. Kopi's the only one we've seen that knows anything the slightest bit useful, because apparently no one in this stupid human hole has ever even heard of them! And we can't even get proper directions out of him! And I just got my tail kicked by a Pidgey and a bunny rabbit!"
He turns on his heel abruptly, clearly planning to storm out the door and probably do something rash like stand in the middle of town and call out the poachers on the off chance one of them is listening. Or maybe he just wants to get out before the healers can tell him off for disturbing the other patients?

Rei looks taken aback by Clay's sudden outburst and his leaving of the tent before she could respond. She takes a moment, exhales, and stands.
"I'll be right back Tiki. Wait here."
Rei steps outside the tent, and before he has a chance to run, Rei grabs him by the arm.
"Clay! Turn around and look at me."
Once he does, he sees kind of a scary expression on Rei's face. She looks stern beyond belief.
"You will do no such thing. Because you are wrong. We know that the one I fought had specialiced in poisonous pokemon. It stands to reason an organization would have similar abilities. We know their general location. We know they'll be acting soon. Kopi gave us their structure. He also overheard something from one of them when I met him the first time. A clue to find their base. And... we know they are strong. We know they are organized. They outnumber us. They are dangerous. And finally... I know we don't have the skills or power to stop them. That's clear now. We are going back to reorganize, heal, and get help. If that help takes over the quest then so be it! But this mission was my idea, none of us would be here if it wasn't for me. I'm not going to see you do something reckless because of a decision I have made. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you..."

Tiki watches from the entrance. She sighs. Maybe they had indeed reached their limit. She walks out to her two friends. "I think Rei might be right...We are starting to get stretched on resources, and Sano isn't here. We should probably go back home."

Though Clay is fit, and good at physically fighting, he isn't actually that unusually strong - he relies on either his staff's leverage or superior technique in a fight. Plus, he's tiny. So Rei grabbing him brings him up short very effectively, even if the look on her face wasn't enough to stop him dead.
"Wha - Rei! I was - I wasn't gonna -" He gives up on the excuse, because even if he was in a good mental place to do so it's really pretty obvious that he was about to do something dumb. "Sheesh... okay, okay. It's just... frustrating. I've had this really annoying losing streak all week, and it keeps feeling like every time we turn around we run into a wall, and I just kinda feel like dead weight. You're the one who found Kopi, Tiki's the one who got us out of the thief's trap... I just wanna feel like I'm actually accomplishing something."
He cracks a weak smile. "And don't give yourself too much credit. I promised the Zangoose I was gonna help, too. I don't think they're, uh..." He trails off, trying to think of the right words. "I'm not sure if they'll understand 'we got info and got somebody else to help' as us helping. But... I mean, you're right, I just don't really wanna admit it."

"Clay, I understand that's frustrating that's you've been losing a lot. I got hospitalized the first day in the guild and was sent to the infirmary after seconds in the match with someone in the steel branch. I'very hardly won any of my battles either. It's why I've had trouble getting enough crowns for healing like you. But if we are both in a situation where we lose all the time, then what does that say?"
Rei puts her hands on the boys shoulders.
"Clay, we've done good. The Guardian is calmed, we've made a friend in the mayor, and we have done the ground work for when we or others come back. And you helped! Don't say you didn't do anything. You are the only one in the guild, possibly in the nation, that can talk to pokemon. We wouldn't have been able to progress with the Zangoose or understand Kopi without you. Now, we need strength, but not this way. Now let's let Tiki rest up, and we will head back,
Ok?"

"Okay..." He frowns. Now that Rei comes to mention it, he's not actually sure why nobody else can talk to Pokémon. Sure, he was raised by them, and nobody else in the group knowing isn't that unlikely, but he's kind of surprised that Rei doesn't seem to have ever heard of anyone else who can. (Clay is mostly under the impression that Rei knows everything.)
He sighs heavily. "Well, I guess we oughta get Sano and get going, if we wanna get back to Saffron before dark. And I... should probably see the healers before we go." Sure, the Guild healers are cheaper, but he doesn't think his Pokémon will appreciate being incapacitated for that long.

"Nah, I'm fine. I just gotta look after my team, is all." His voice still sounds a little raspy; he's probably not actually fine. But it's not what he meant to go to the healers for anyway.
He ducks back into the tent to talk to the healers about his Pokémon.

After getting all healed up, Tiki collects her things, and waits near the entrance to town. Star sits upon her shoulder, and paws at her hair. "I know, Star. They're almost here. We're heading home."

Rei searches the city for Sano, finally finding someone who spotted him going back south for help. Rei sighs in relief, and goes to find Tiki.
"Sano went back south already to get help, we should make our way down there before they do something unnessecary like send a search party."
Rei merely stands next to Tiki to keep her company, but seems to be spaced and deep in her own thoughts.

Clay reappears with Baloo held in his arms rather like a teddy bear with an attitude. The little Pancham regards the world at large with a cynical gaze as Clay hurries over to the others where they're waiting, just in time to overhear Rei mentioning where Sano went. "He went on ahead, huh? Okay, let's go, I guess."
He's uncharacteristically quiet as they head southward; even after the chewing-out Rei gave him, he's not wild about turning around and going back to the guild, if only because admitting he's not strong enough isn't really something he likes to do. After a little while, he asks, "Hey, Rei? What you said before about me being able to talk to Pokémon... you've really never heard of anybody that can do that? I know I was raised up to it but you'd think somebody would be able to learn..."

Rei walks silently along Raido as Tiki rides atop her Skiddo. When Clay addresses her, she turns and shakes her head.
"No, no one. I suppose I wouldn't be the best person to ask, I've lived a pretty insulated life with my family, but I've never heard of anyone short of Mind-readers that could understand pokemon outside of basic ideas. I can 'understand' Shinpuru, for example, but only to a point, and only cause I've traveled with him for a good portion of my life. You can understand him directly, which to my knowledge, is a one of a kind skill."

Tiki lays upon Rei's Skiddo, and runs her fingers through its grassy fur. Star lays curled up on her back. She looks over at the others. "Yeah you can make all those weird noises, and pokemon can understand you. That's pretty cool. I know what Star is thinking most of the time, but I don't understand unlike talking to people."

"What, really? Pokémon understand each other just fine." Clay looks very confused by the idea that it would take a long time to learn different types of Pokémon speech. Then again, linguistics isn't exactly his strong point.
He's probably going to stay confused all the way back to the Guild.
