It takes several hours of walking to reach Saffron again, but nothing out of the ordinary happens along the way (unless you count Tiki being quiet; that's pretty unusual). Knowing that Sano is a pretty level-headed guy, combined with the fact that there is no search party rushing up the road to go find you, you suspect that Sano may have down-played your party's hysteria over these supposed poachers.

As they pull up in front of the guild, Tiki hops of Raido, gives him pets and kisses for letting her ride him, and looks at the others. "We're home. We have the guardian, and dirt, quests to turn in to the Ground branch, and I guess we talk to Miss G about the Zangoose."

The Ground Branch Leader happily pays the crowns as stated before, though admittedly he feared you may have forgotten about such a minor request given how long you were gone. His dirt collection in hand, he glides across the sandstone tiles back to (what you assume is) his office.
Genevieve appears to be quite busy today, as she's giving a tour of the Guild to a group of children who were looking to become Junior Members (basically they get to hang out and play with/learn about Pokemon all day, with the occasional field trip for educational purposes).

Clay will wait with the others for a little while, but his quietness fades quickly and he starts fidgeting, moving from one spot to another restlessly. "How long are we gonna wait? If she's taking care of the kids all day we'll be here a while. Should we try and do something 'til she's done?"
In fact, a few moments later, he sighs. "Actually, y'know what? I gotta have a talk with that fish. Figure out whether he's gonna stop being a jerk or whether he wants to get traded or what. I'm gonna go find a pond or something he can sit in; come and get me if I'm not back when she's free, I guess?"

Tiki decided that it would be best to wait until Miss G was ready to talk. She looked to the others before separating. "I'm gonna wait till Miss G isn't busy. I'ma head around town, and look for more pokemon. I'll see you all later."

Rei goes off to sell her PP Up and gets some shopping done. Then she heads out to explore the city once again, hoping to eat up some time.
(Using final encounter on wild pokemon)

Rei finds a familiar sight. It's that Vulpix she found way back when (or at least she thinks it is?)! However, it seems to have a new friend with it. A small mouse-like Pokemon that looks similar to what Clay described encountering in the woods closer to Celadon. This thing is much smaller, though. With little pink circles on its cheeks.

Clay trots over to catch up with them, with a battered but grinning Pancham on his shoulder. "Sorry I'm late, had a battle. Baloo did great, he took out this other Fighting-type that was waving a whole log around - oh, uh, hi."
He pulls up short with a sheepish grin. "Sorry, interrupting. Um, I'm Clay. Fire Branch." He doesn't remember whether he's ever introduced himself properly to Miss Genevieve before.

"Greetings Lady Genevieve. Yes we did have some beach time early on, but we went to Cerulean to deal with the mission we asked you about days ago..."
Rei goes on to explain first their dealings with the Zangoose, how we were able to find out that they were attacking humans because poachers were encroaching on their territory so they felt like they had to reach out to survive and get back at the humans. After talking to them, the group had convinced them we'd try helping by finding the poachers up north in Cerulean, to the west of Mt Moon. Although finding some clues, (Rei gives her the sheet with the mask, lets her know about Kopi's notes on them, the quote Kopi had given, and the fact that they use poison types) they couldn't find more, and decided it was smartest to come back. Rei does leave out her combat with one directly, not really ready to talk about it.
"...But yes. We seemed to have hit a wall and could not progress further. We've come back with all the information we've gathered, for someone more qualified to take than us, but we are willing to go with them to provide all of our information and help out where possible."

Genevieve listens very carefully to your story, taking the notes. "If this group of poachers is as organized as you say, it was very reckless of you to go seeking them out on your own. While I appreciate the effort you put into this, I would have preferred you simply returned after the Zangoose encounter. From here on though, I don't want you kids anywhere near this mission. Do you understand?"
She suddenly stops, as if something occured to her.
"For that matter, how did you learn about these poachers in the first place? You said the Zangoose told you? How?"

Tiki has her head down, and kicks the ground as they get scolded. She doesn't have anything to say, but her eyes do shift to Clay when she talks of how we learned about the poachers.

Clay's immediate response to being told to stay away from the mission is outrage. "Hey, come on! I made a promise to help them, I'm not just gonna back out of that! I mean, yeah, they're kinda jerks, but they were upset, and anyway that doesn't mean I'm just going to -"
This is probably going on underneath the rest of what Genevieve says, until he realizes that she's asked about what the Zangoose says and Tiki is looking at him. "Oh. Uh. Right. That would be me. I grew up with an Infernape troop and I can speak Pokémon language." He's starting to get the feeling this deserves more weight than he's just given it, but mostly he's just confused about it at this point. "I kinda figured it was a thing anybody could learn to do, but Rei says she's never heard of anybody else who has."

Genevieve frowns at Clay's outburst, giving him a look that means she's quite serious about this.
"Promise or not, I can't have you kids running off like that. It's far too dangerous. What if you had gotten hurt? I'm responsible for you, like it or not. As for able to speak Pokemon language.. that's not something one just learns, regardless of being raised by Pokemon. It seems you were born with an exceedingly rare gift, Clay, whether you realize it or not."
She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Please, just promise me that you won't do anything reckless, okay? I don't want to hear you've gotten kidnapped, or worse, killed! What would I say to your parents if that happened?"

Rei looks guilty as she's chastised.
"I'm sorry Lady Genevieve. I take full responsibility for this. I felt I should see the task through, thinking the poachers were a small group and not as organized or as large as Kopi had told me. We will not do something like that in the future."
Rei bows and turns to leave.
