Tiki spots it alright. A great big... pidgey. It tweets in fright when Tiki suddenly yells and flutters off quickly. The feeling of being watched hasn't gone away, but now she swears that it's mocking her. "AHA!" echoes through the silent woods. For Sano's eyes only: You hear Rei's voice say "What are we even doing here? We should just head home." It sounds like she's right next to you. |

Clay frowns, then realizes that the Pidgey is probably what he needs. "Hey, wait!" He runs off after the fleeing bird. "Don't run away, I want to ask you something! We don't want to hurt you, she just got excited."

Clay manages to chase down the Pidgey and explain about Tiki's over-excitedness. It calms down enough to possibly hold a conversation (if you can call it that). As with the Pikachu, no guarantees it knows anything, but can't hurt to ask.

"Have you seen a bunch of humans around here? Or a place they hang out?" Clay pauses for a moment to try and work out how to describe a campsite to a Pokémon that's probably unfamiliar with the concept and would mostly have seen it from the air. "It's probably in a clearing, or they would've made a new one, and there'd be a bunch of funny-looking things they use for nests. I think they might have some Murkrow with them?"
Assuming this Pidgey isn't actually what was watching them, but Rei had mentioned a Murkrow so that seemed more likely.

Surprisingly enough, it says that it once saw many such clearings with humans in them. It couldn't tell you how to find them on the ground, however, only that if you're looking for those you're quite a ways away.

"Which direction were they? Towards the mountain? Further away?" Clay isn't entirely sure how to reconcile this with the Pikachu's report that the poachers pass through this area, unless they've managed to wander onto some sort of direct route between the camp and wherever they spend the rest of their time. But if all they can do is wander around blind, they're never going to find the place, much less in time to stop the poachers going after the Zangoose.

It occurs to Clay that one or both of the Pokemon he spoke to may be relaying outdated information. Even as he contemplates this, the Pidgey says when it last saw the clearings he asked about, they were scattered all over the place, with one near the mountain, another futher away, and one further still.4d6

Clay bites his lip as he considers the problem of relying on information from Pokémon that really aren't all that interested in keeping up to date on poacher movements if they don't bother them. "Okay, thanks, you've been a lot of help. Sorry we scared you."
He returns the short distance to the group looking thoughtful. "Okay, the Pidgey says it saw camps - at least, I think what it saw were probably camps - scattered all over, but they were aways off from here. I dunno if it's out of date or the mouse is. I think we're gonna have to scout on our own; the poachers don't seem to mess with the Pokémon I've talked to much so they don't pay a whole lot of attention. I guess they don't want to rile up everything around where they camp."

Clay leans against a nearby tree, drumming his knuckles on it thoughtfully. "They could fly up there and I could ask what they saw, after. I'd send Flower only she can't go very high, and she's easy to see coming." One of the disadvantages of being continuously on fire. "I guess there isn't that far they could go, but do you think it's worth a try?"

Jufeng gets briefly distracted by something, but Hari keeps it on track as they work together to try and locate any of these supposed 'clearings'. Several minutes pass by, and the two birds finally return... with Clay's assistance, they are able to communicate that they found some 'open spaces' in the trees, but there was nothing in them suggesting a human presence. Not even an old one. This leaves you with two possible explanations: 1) The poachers are *really* good at not being found, or 2) the lead Tiki got was someone sending them on a wild goose chase. Possibly even someone affiliated with the poachers sending you far away from their actual campsite(s), though that seems unlikely (unless Tiki is really bad at reading people).

"I guess we can go to the clearings and look around on the ground? If they're hidden they might be easier to see from up close."

Leaving one of us out in the open puts us in a disadvantageous position, and if they are only seen when they want to be seen, I doubt an ambush like that would go without being noticed. Plus, no disrespect to Tiki's information, but it seems more likely that a group of poachers would make themselves a permanent, if not conspicuous base of operations somewhere."
