I'm looking to start a PTU game. I have a few settings/games to use, so I thought I'd leave it open to the players to decide (more on that later). Firstly a few fetails for whatever game is run:
Game Style: More Anime than Gritty, much more story focused than 'battle focused'. The game will definitely be much closer to the TV show than the grittier side of the RP (E.g. Injuries will not necessarily be as focused on). Role-play is definitely preferred over roll-play.
Post Rate: Ideally we'd be looking for two to three posts a week. More frequently would be great, but as a minimum we will move on at least once every 3 days. Also, whilst it would be nice to wait for players- it would be better to post and move on if someone vanishes. Including contingencies in posts (e.g. If they use X I would use Y)- if you don't post it, I can't necessarily know about it- so it's important to includie in combat posts (in particular) things like passive abilities that might be relevant.
Player Numbers: Four is a great number, sadly 50% often seems to be an attrition rate for PbP so we might aim for 6-8 as a contingency sadly.
Role20: I'll use it for maps when necessary, though might move away from that moreso than remaining with it. I'll do my rolling on tehre simply because it will allow me to write and respond more logically. As players, we might use the dice roller on here- I'm not certain, will need to test it out first.
The Potential Locales:
Ifirio: A warm and sunny land, famed for its mineral wealth as well as its often-drought ridden climate and ancient, traditional cultures. For a long time it was under the control of people's from other regions, especially Kalos. Now it is free and thriving, though not without its problems, it has great mineral wealth, though this is somewhat mitigated by the fact that food can sometimes be scarce and water a rare commodity in some areas. It has a long and mystical tradition.
Neo Island: An unspoiled wilderness, found only recently. Showing the full variety of landscapes, this island has just one, tiny settlement and a call out to trainers to come and explore it as well as establish small settlements and amenities that others might one day come to visit. Full of dangers and unknowns.
Possible Games
With Ifirio there are two possible games- a more traditional gym-quest (hopefully with players filling different roles [somewhat like in the anime]) OR the Ifirian Academy- an elite trainer school that teaches trainers to be the best so that they can enter the league straight away.
With Neo Island the game will be focused much more around exploration and discovery, though of course, there are no crafters, traders, gym-leaders etc. anywhere but the docks- something that the PCs may well end up being.

As we have somewhat of consesnsus:
PLOT: All across the world television channels click onto the same broadcast, an expensive proposition, telling everyone that this must be something amazing. Adverts have reminded trainers across the world of what is coming and millions tune-in: in Pokémon Centres and homes; in gyms and labs; everywhere there are eager eyes looking to see what this announcement can be. The title sequence is simple, the Pokémon League symbol, with the simple title “An Announcement” underneath it. A moment later and this fades to reveal a blue background with six figures before it, each of them instantly recognisable to at least some of the assembled trainers, some recognisable to all.
In the centre, the white-haired elderly Professor who almost all can recognise- the esteemed expert of Pokémon, Professor Oak, specialist in Pokémon-Human relations; to either side of him, younger gentlemen of complete contrast, one thin and bookish, the other burly and vital: Elm and Birch experts on breeding, evolution and habitats; to their sides an elderly, hispid man in a long coat and a younger woman with a clear energy: Rowan and Juniper experts on evolution and origins; the last, a man seeming completely out of place as a professor, young with an air of danger: Sycamore, an expert on alternatives to evolution. For all six of these esteemed persons to be gathered together, they must be giving a grand announcement.
Professor Oak clears his throat, waits a moment and then speaks in his enthusiastic voice, betraying his love and enthusiasm for Pokémon that even now seems to keep him youthful, “Welcome trainers, I am so glad that you could tune in to hear our announcement of a new discovery. We here from the Pokémon League have an exciting proposition for the best amongst you. It is not very often that these opportunities come along, and this is your chance to become involved. We, the gathered Professors, represent the major regions of Pokémon training in the world, and have met many of you in your travels. So many of you have begun your journeys with us, and we invite you all to consider beginning a new journey with us today.
“I suppose, that I have built the suspense enough here, but this discovery has been so long in the making, that it would be remiss of me not to ensure that you feel the excitement that I do.” He continued, as an image appeared behind him, eventually moving to fill the entire screen as he continued to speak. “This is Neo Island. Newly discovered in an undisclosed location just a few years ago, the professors and I have been working with our teams to investigate this untouched paradise. Now that the initial ground work has been done, we believe, with the Pokémon League’s backing, that it is right to invite a select group of experienced trainers to travel here and begin a journey anew- one of construction and exploration. There will be many dangers, and little support beyond your own wits, but we know that some of you will rise to this challenge. I hand you over now to Professor Birch, our environment specialist to give you a little taste of Neo Island.” He pauses as the image moves across the island, showing high, snow-capped mountains, lush rainforest, a desert plain, lakes and rivers, grasslands and finally, even, a roiling volcano near the centre of the island.
“Thank you, Professor Oak. As my esteemed colleague says, this island is a brand new discovery, full of habitats seen together nowhere else. No trainer will experience a sense of complacency here, this new island has everything to explore and experience, challenges in abundance, challenges that we have only just begun to consider. The challenges presented here are far too many for even our teams to begin to catalogue, but already we have seen mixes of species not seen in any other region. We estimate that this region contains at least 85% of all known species worldwide, as well as many unique variations that have only ever been theorised about. From the beaches and grasslands of the coasts, through to the deep jungle interior and high mountain peaks, very trainer will find challenges suitable to them as well as species which they may only have dreamed about acquiring in their home regions.”
Professor Juniper picks up almost from where Birch leaves off, her voice thrilled and excited, as images of many of the exotic species found here are shown, “Not only this, but we believe this region may well hold mysteries to the origins of Pokémon may be held here. Early research evidence suggests that this may well be the birthplace of Mew and genetic testing seems to support at least part of this hypothesis. Our explorations have uncovered ruins thousands of years older than anything that we have explored before, though we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of the culture or civilisation that may once have called Neo Island home. These are the reasons why we are offering free travel and lodgings to Neo Island, all we ask is that every trainer wears our new, specialised Pokédex-Nav system, with in-built GPS tracking, data recording and communications software. This will allow us to catalogue and explore the island faster than we could alone as well as begin to prepare this island to receive its first influx of new trainers. We will be allowing just 1,000 lucky trainers the chance to establish themselves on this island, to take up the challenges it offers and carve, for themselves, new lives and opportunities. Whether that is a researcher, archaeologist, gym-leader, co-ordinator or ace trainer; whether as a vendor or healer, mystic or league organiser. The lucky few will be those who set the tone for this new region as well as expanding our knowledge about this new world.”
Professor Oak and the others fade back into view as images of Neo Island flick behind them, “This is not a challenge for the faint of heart, or those who are inexperienced. We will only be taking the best, most capable trainers for this experience. Those who can truly prepare this new world. Fear not, there will be more chances to travel to Neo Island once we are ready and certain of its security, but for now, we will take only 1,000 great trainers. Please, follow the link below to submit your application and be ready for your interview, battle-test and the adventure that awaits!” Oak finishes on a high as the address flicks up.
The website slows to a crawl as millions immediately access it, aside from a link to the presentation and further details, the page also lists criteria for consideration, trainers will need to take an aptitude test. All trainers must bring at least two Pokémon to ensure their safety on the island, though of course there are many species to explore and capture
