Martel couldn't keep up a glum look for long, and so soon after they had set out, she found her gloominess replaced by a pronounced boredom. If they had been walking, there would have been at least footing and terrain to consider, but her mount was obviously pretty accustomed to wandering the desert. Since the Camerupt made this stretch so easy, there wasn't anything to do but watch the desert go by. Which only aggravated the issue! Then again, this pace was so placid, it wouldn't be a bad idea to tinker with that box, would it? At any rate, it would help pass the time... Deciding to play with it and see what sort of contraptions she could fashion, the results didn't end up too bad! It would be nice to test them before declaring the results a success, but she thought the Pokeballs she'd made ought to serve just as well as any. Crafted... 2 Great Balls.

Gennidran rode the numel as he hummed an old song to himself, enjoying the night air. He watched his allies go to their handiwork with great fascination, having no such talent himself.

A'Lincoln move along quietly sitting on the numel's back. Not saying anything or doing anything, just keeping a careful eye trained on the group.

Celina leads the way to Shadrum on a Camerupt, looking around for anything of interest.

Along the way everyone make a perception check. It's 4 hours and riding on these guys would be considered an extended rest.

Having finished playing with the toolbox for now... Mostly because she had run out of material, Martel takes some time to watch the scenery go by. At the slow trod of a caravan of Numel. Perception, go! NDbYC_Ps3d6 3d6

Geier was on edge once he no longer had something to keep his hands and focus occupied. The lack of cover, the open terrain, the wide endless sky above - he didn't trust any of it, and didn't like it either. His gaze kept darting to and fro, each time he thought he saw movement out of the corner of his eye turning out to be something innocuous or a trick of the desert haze. The punishing heat, far removed from the damp, cool tunnels of Shadrum, showed no sign of letting up even as dusk approached. The vulture-man's discomfort and paranoia drove him to distraction. The desert appears quiet, unnaturally quiet as the night begins to slowly descend upon all of you.

Celina motions for the Camerupt and Numel to stop as she notices some sand shifting. It seemed like something was there, and while it could be an ambush it could be somebody who needs help and so Celina was willing to take the risk. She dismounts the Camerupt and lets Amingo out of his ball and points at the shifting sands, as the pair slowly approaches. "Hello? Is somebody or something there?"

As Martel was about to lose interest (yet again) in the dreary scenery, she noticed a patch that looked amiss. In fact, unlike the deathly stillness of the desert at large, that area looked, well... not a dead zone.
When she concluded that it was strange, and probably not something she wanted to be surprised by, she urged her mount forward to quietly warn the group's guides. Although it seemed she wasn't the only one to notice the anomaly.
Although it might have confused her nice mount, she then told it to stop instead, and dismounted it altogether to investigate the sand with Celina.

When Martel and Celina went on alert, Geier refocused himself instantly. He remained mounted, drawing his crossbow and ready to unleash one of his Pokemon at first sign of a threat. Though he couldn't see where they'd spotted anything dangerous - or even worth stopping for - and he didn't trust their judgment yet, he assumed they were at least not incompetent. And if they'd spotted something his own keen eyes had missed...

A'Lincoln didn't say anything, mearly pulling his weapons out and eyeing the sand, waiting to see what would appear.

Gennidran likewise pulls out his Greatclub and staggers off the Numel, approaching the group that's dismounted and appears to be investigating something.

Out of the sand burst what appeared to be multiple small pokemon with wild starving looks on their faces, making small clicking sounds. They were just shy of melee range of the group and had stinger-like arms with a clawed tail.

Geier remained mounted; there were probably few places safer than on the Camerupt's back at the moment. He doubted any of the scorpions would go after such a large, intimidating target first when there where plenty of less hardy Numel to prey on. Not to mention half a dozen squishy humans. While Geier presumed his Herald would wear their attacks readily enough, it seemed likely the Venipede's own poison would be just as ineffective. He called out Harvest, commanding the Tropius to take to the air so it wouldn't get surrounded and assail the nearest Skorupi with a blast of wind. He remained out of combat himself for the time being to keep from drawing attention to himself, but was ready to defend himself if the tide of battle turned against them. Geier releases Harvest and used Brutal Training. On Harvest's Initiative (11), vs the Skorupi with 9 Initiative... Given that these Pokemon looked much hungrier and more carnivorous than the cacti they'd faced prior, Martel was considerably more worried about fighting them. That said, she was keen on figuring out just what sort of opponents Celina would be able to talk down, and riling them up with an attack wasn't quite fair, was it? At the same time, she wasn't about to stay here, unprotected. Sending out her Sandshrew just ahead of her, she instructed him to " Wait here." as she backed up a few paces. If Celina couldn't get the bugs to stand down, she would just see if something more direct got the message across... Deploying Kava the Sandshrew between Martel and the Skorupi (adjacent to Martel). Kava Initiative: 5 Martel delays initiative to 8.
If the Pokemon are still hostile at this point, Martel will use Shock Wave on the nearest Skorupi. No AC, DB6 - 44ZsoyFi2d6+16 Special Electric damage
Kava will use Sand Attack on the nearest Skorupi on his turn. AC2 - 1d20, Target is blinded until the end of their next turn. 2d6+16·1d20

Celina looked worried as she slowly walked backwards, away from the Pokemon, leaving some food on the ground as she focused on channeling the one closest to her. She had Amingo ready to fight if this didn't work. "There there little guys, nobody has to get hurt. Just calm down and eat. There's plenty to go around."Channeling a hostile Pokemon.
