In the twilight, the ruins look quite beautiful. Constructed as they are out of a white, marble-like stone that resists tarnishing, the ruins take on an almost dream-like quality, bathed in the orange-red glow of the setting sun. The ruins are surrounded by a crumbling wall that looks to be about three feet tall at its highest. Nearby is a lake, with a small copse of trees growing around it- and possibly berry bushes, though you can't tell from this distance. About a hundred yards away is the research settlement- not quite a town, but not far off from it, either. It consists of a large building recognizable as a Pokemon Center, a larger building helpfully labeled "Laboratory," and four smaller buildings- presumably houses, barracks, or shops. All are constructed of logs, either flown in from elsewhere or harvested from the nearby copse.

For a place that is clearly meant to be both a rest stop on the way to Augur Town and a launching-off point for explorations into the ruins, it's eerily quiet. There are no people in the streets of the settlement, and the curtains and blinds are drawn tight in the windows of the buildings. Nearby lies the probable reason- a large helicopter, guarded by about a dozen large, uncompromising-looking men in heavy suits that resemble hazmat suits. The entrance into the ruins are guarded by two more men, similarly dressed, and someone smaller and slimmer, who doesn't seem to be wearing one of the bulky suits. On the side of the helicopter is emblazoned a stylized Gothic "T", with a lightning bolt serving for the vertical line. Jamie OOC You recognize the symbol on the helicopter- it's the insignia of Team Tempest!

Shako looks at what is going on at the settlement, and turns to the others. What do you think is going on guys? Should we hide or something?

Jamie had been admiring the ruins. They looked quite beautifully made and preserved. The research settlement had its own charm too. Jamie looks at the sign emblazoned on the helicopter with a mixture of feelings. There was some nervousness and uncertainty but also anger. "These must be Tempest goons," he said, frowning. He crossed his arms. "There is a saying; when in Unova, do as the Unovans do. That would suggest that we avoid contact like everyone else seems to be doing; we probably don't want to stand out just yet. I don't think we can take on that many people by ourselves right now." Jamie paused, then continued, "However, I don't think we need to hide from them. They don't look aggressive, although they probably won't let anyone into the ruins right now. I think it's best we gather some information. We can ask if the people at the Pokemon Center know what's going on." Jamie's frown deepened just a little. "I bet someone has probably tried to get into the ruins and been rebuffed already, we just need to find that person and see what they know. In the worst case scenario and we find no one, we can do it ourselves. I doubt they're going to attack just anyone, especially not a group." Intuition Check to see how aggressive the Tempest goons seem. Also to possibly discern a hierarchy within the group, checking if anyone 'seems important': 6cv5ghxB3d6 3d6

Helen is at first exited about the helecopter, and oblivious to the mass of people standing around in ominous uniforms. Perhaps she and the boys could bum a ride to Augur Town after checking out the ruins! It is only when Jamie speaks up that the youngest trainer in the group puts two and two together. Fear crosses Helen's face briefly, and she fishes Thumper and Absol's Pokeballs from her bag.
With her two best Pokemon in hand and ready to go at a moment's notice, Helen is able to calm down and take stock of the situation, and her face rapidly shifts from fear to confidence. "I think most of those guys are guarding the chopper. At the ruins entrance there are only three of them... and if Team Tempest is as wedded to the electric type as people say they are, we should be able to win an even fight so long as we protect Cascade and Clubba."
"If we go in the Pokemon Center the grownups might not let us go back out until they are gone," Helen smirks, "so I just say we blast our way into the ruins!"

Jamie has to smile at Helen's courage. "Well, if that's what you want to do, I'll support you. You can count on my team and I."

As you approach, you notice that the grunts by the helicopter actually have some Pokemon out to help them guard it. True to form, it's mostly electric types- largely from the Shinx and Magnemite families. The non-electric types are from the Patrat and Poochyena families- evolutionary lines renowned for their vigilance. The three by the ruins' entrance don't seem to have any Pokemon out. Jamie OOC The Tempest grunts don't seem to have a clear hierarchy among them- perhaps they're guarding the area at the behest of a higher-up who entered the ruins. What is clear is that they are bored, bored, bored. Their posture is slouched, they seem listless, and even their guard Pokemon appear disinterested. The three by the ruins are prime examples. The slim one (who looks to be a woman) looks to be dozing on what appears to be a pink pillow. One of the larger grunts is leaning against a walls, and the other seems to have fallen asleep standing up.

"Guys," Jamie whispers, "The guards at the ruins all seem to be asleep. If we're quiet we might make it past them without causing a commotion."

Shako takes a look at the guards, and comes to the same conclusion as Jamie. Ya, looks like, don't it? You lead on Jamie, I'll follow. But I'm going to get clubba's ball ready just in case okay. Shako then grabs the pokeball off of his necklace, and readies it. Preparing for Jamie to lead them into the ruins.

"Doesn't hurt to be ready," Jamie agrees, grabbing Cascade's Pokeball from his belt. He stops for a moment, "Oh, I forgot to tell you, but I'm not the best at being stealthy." He shrugs, "Well, I probably don't need to be particularly stealthy for this." He makes his way over to the ruins and tries to get past the guards, trying to make a little less noise than usual. Helen burries her face in her hands, doing her best not to giggle, as Jamie bumbles loudly towards the guards. She then reaches up and taps the bird on her head. "Fly ahead and use sing on those guards, why don't you. I have a feeling they need to be sleeping pretty deep if we are slipping Jamie past them." Helen sends Swablu ahead to use sing, before following Jamie and doing her best not to let her laughter ruin her own attempt at being sneaky. z1aosI|51-20 Sing AC 2d6 Helen Stealth Check

Shako watches Jamie bumble about. I hope I won't be as loud, I'm not the sneakiest either. Then he sees Helen's Swablu fly ahead and begin to sing. Phew, Hopefully they will be completely knocked out for this. He then begins to "sneak" behind Jamie, hoping he doesn't get too loud.

Jamie and Shako's bumbling awaken the larger guards, who blearily turn towards you. "Hey, whaddya think-" one begins to say, before Swablu flits up and sings a gentle song. The two large guards collapse, and inside of their suits, you can hear them snoring- which is fortunate, because this close, you notice that their left arms are mounted with what are doubtlessly lightning-shooting weapons. The woman looks in your direction. "Hey, can you please keep it down? I'm trying to...." her voice trails off as she sees her unconscious comrades. She shakes her head once to clear it, and then removes her helmet, revealing a young woman about your age, with short, startlingly blonde hair and bright blue eyes. You also realize that she has cotton crammed inside of her ears (meaning she never heard Swablu's singing), which she removes carefully. "Oi! Didn't Darius teach you lot a lesson already?" She says angrily. "You want me to call- wait a minute." She tilts her head to one side, scrutinizing you. "You're not the ones Darius took out yesterday. Who are you?" Behind her, the pink pillow she was sleeping on wheezily gets up and trundles over to join her. It's not a pillow at all- it's a Pokemon, one with a pinkish-purple mist leaking out of a hole in the top of its head.

Jamie suppresses the feeling of panic as the guards wake up but feels relieved when Helen's Swablu's singing puts them to sleep once again. Of course that feeling leaves when the surprisingly young woman is unaffected by the singing and asks the group who they are. Jamie doesn't respond for a moment, simply analyzing the situation. The Pokemon looks familiar, if Jamie knew what it could do, maybe he'd feel safer about doing something like simply making a break for it and running into the ruins. Pokemon Ed Check: eAkAe0zl4d6 Jamie glances quickly at the others, as if wanting them to speak up, but when nothing is forthcoming at the moment he steels himself. "My name is Jerry, and these are my friends. We'd like to see the ruins please!" Guile so the lying isn't detected: 3d6+1 (Spending 1 AP)

"The ruins are closed off until further notice," she replies, arms akimbo, looking between Jamie and Shako. "We got guys inside looking around, and what they're doing is super top secret. And besides, Darius said not to let anyone in, and I'm more scared of Darius than I am of you, Jerry." Her serious words and posture are spoiled by the large, cuddly, wheezing Pokemon floating next to her. She squints a moment at Jamie and Shako. "Wait a minute. 'Friends'? There's only you and..." She counts a moment, and then looks past the boys as she catches sight of Helen. "I see you, girl!" she calls out, pointing at Helen. "Stop hiding back there and come on out where I can see you clearly!" Jamie OOC You recognize the Pokemon as a Musharna- a squishy Pokemon that can eat dreams and produce a substance called "dream mist" which acts as a narcoleptic (it can put people to sleep.)

Helen can't help but flash a cheeky grin as she looks over the woman and her Pokemon, trying like Jamie to figure out exactly what the 'pillow' was.

The woman realizes that you're eyeing her Pokemon, and instantly guesses that you're gauging your chances against her. She pulls her helmet back on and pulls two Pokeballs off of her belt. "You really don't wanna try to fight me," she says. "If you do win, what'll that get you? I'll just call Darius, and he'll come back and sweep the floor with you. Just like he did with those others." She sounds nervous- though she believes this "Darius" can easily win against you, she doesn't fancy her chances in a three-on-one fight. Helen OOC You recognize the Musharna for what it is. You don't recall the Dream Mist, but you do know it doesn't mega evolve.

Helen grins, a wicked gleam briefly passing across her face. She was used to being picked on and beat up by larger groups of people and Pokemon. That shoe would surely feel good on the other foot. "Whatever makes you think we will leave you in any condition to call your friend? Swablu, set up a safeguard please."
Swablu uses Safeguard. The blessing may be activated 3 times to protect a party member from a status condition.
She then turns to the boys. "Focus on the trainer, I think I have the answer to her Pokemon."

She takes a step back, realizing that a fight is unavoidable now. She presses a button on the side of her head. "Darius, it's Sasha. We have a problem! I need help, now!" she shouts, opening her Pokeballs, and releasing an Emolga and a Pachirisu. She clenches her fists and gives a peculiar flick of her wrist. She doesn't have the lightning weapons that her larger counterparts have. However, the knuckles on her gloves glow a gentle white, giving a soft but insistent hum. "You wanna fight?" Sasha says savagely, raising her fists into a fighting stance. "Fine! Let's fight! But I'm not gonna cower behind my Pokemon like you!" You realize that, in a full-contact fight, while you have the advantage of numbers, you've no idea what kind of protection her armor gives her.

Helen considers the woman's actions. The call for help was a pain in the ass; The ruins might now be off limits even if they could beat this trainer. The fact she could command three Pokemon was also a bit unnerving... perhaps the technology she was using helped with that.
Still, Helen concluded that Sasha's actions would only draw the battle out, not change the end result. Assuming Shako was smart enough to use his Cubone, the electric Pokemon would be of little use, and Helen intended to deal with the other one quickly.
Looking nowhere near as cool as her foe, Helen fumbles with her own Pokeballs and swaps out her Swablu with an almost gleeful snarl. "Absol, come out! We got a bully on our hands! Boys, lets show these tempest crackpots what we are made of!"
