Julie nods, and quickly follows right behind Matt. "I want to get there fast, we already wasted enough time... I just hope Randy's alright. Cutting through the grass should be faster... if we don't get distracted by too many battles, alright?" Julie stealth: 8 Julie Perception: 9 Tear Perception: 11

"Uh... guys?" Val asks, a little nervous. Some of that grass seemed taller than she was... "Can't we go arou..." But, the others had already headed in, so she tried to not put too much more thought into it, before venturing in, Dinah transparently floating above her. Val Perception: 3 Val Stealth: 9

Steven
"Lu!," Sirius says enthusiastically, and the two of you plunge into the tall grass. The grass seems to be a fair bit taller than it appeared at first, as the ground unexpectedly dips down, and after a minute or so of walking you have completely lost sight of the others...and Sirius, for that matter. Just as you begin to get nervous, the Riolu pops his head out of the nearby grass right in front of your face. "Lu! Riolu," he says, beckoning you to follow.
Following the little Riolu, you come to a small patch of dirt. There is a slightly different type of grass growing here, with a few short leaves growing up out of the ground. As you get closer, Sirius crouched down. "Lu-lu," he says in a hushed tone. The leaves begin to shake, and suddenly a blue bulb begins to push its way to the surface. Two eyes open in the bulb, looking at you with innocent curiousity.
Matt
Bulwark eagerly plods into the forest, not to be outdone by Sirius. Following behind Steven, it doesn't take long for you to lose him, as the ground unexpectedly dips away. The grass is much taller than it appeared at first. Fortunately, wherever Bulwark treads he flattens the grass, leaving you a clear path back to follow. As you flatten another patch of grass, you reveal a small, purple, spiky little creature, chewing away on a wild carrot. It sees the two of you and blinks before making a dismissive sound before returning to its carrot, seemingly unbothered by your presence.
Julie
Like the others, you quickly find the ground dipping down, and the grass much taller, and lose sight of your companions. Clutching Tear, you are able to make your way easily enough through the tall grass. The calls of nearby pokemon, however, spooks your Sewaddle, and it returns itself to its pokeball.
After a few more minutes of walking, you come across a small break in the grass. In this clearing you find a small, green pokemon with leaves atop its head. It almost looks like it's dancing...
Valerie
Following the others, you quickly find out that the grass is much taller than it originally appeared, as the ground dips away and you lose sight of the others. After getting turned around a few times, you are thoroughly lost, although Dinah seems perfectly calm. As you continue to walk, you see a small purple rodent chomping on a berry through the grass...but it's what you don't see that is more important. You step on something squishy and you hear a surprised "Kaaaaaaa~!" from beneath you as whatever you stepped on starts to wriggle. The purple rat looks up, directly at you, and bolts.
Beneath your feet is a purple snake, wriggling out from underneath your shoe. It looks longingly at the fleeing rat before turning its angry, irritated glare on you, baring it's fangs.

Steven raises an eyebrow as Sirius pops up and beckons for him to follow, but shrugs and does so. "Found something, did ya? Good job." He kneels down next to Sirius, curious what he was looking at. His queries are soon answered, as a small blue round body emerges from underneath a odd shaped bit of grass. He quickly recognizes the mon as an Oddish, and smiles cheerfully at the small Grass type. "Hiya litle fellow. How're you doing?" he asks, voice friendly. Charm Check: 14

Steven
The little bulbous shrub hopped out of the ground, shaking off some loose dirt. "Oddish, odd," it said happily, nodding and smiling at Steven. It walked up to you, curiously looking you over, and then walked over to Sirius, inspecting him as well. It started to walk in a wide circle around the two of you, trying to get a look at you from every angle.

Steven laughs as the Oddish starts circling around him and Sirius. "You're a curious fella, ain'tcha? Wanna explore whatever you come across? I feel ya, little dude, I really do. I'm the same way, really. Is why I'm travelling, really. Going out to see the world. Pretty neat, don't ya think?"Charm: 15

Huh? 'Squish?' thinks Val, stopping. What does that in the midd- Agh! She finally notices what she stepped on, and immediately jumps back, having realized she stepped on an Ekans. Upon seeing the snake glare at her, Val's immediate reaction, having dealt with (admittedly less likely to try eating her) wilds back home in a similar way, is to stand her ground, glare back, and snaps, "Now you cut that out! I couldn't see anything in here, and you were just lying there, so don't go blaming me for stepping on you when you're good at hiding!"Pokémon Edu: 5 Intimidate to try and cow the snake: 16
If the snake does stand down, Dinah uses Reflect, else she uses Secret Power (6 vs AC 2, for 31 Special Normal Damage).

A huge grin spread across Matt's face, this was a Male Nidoran! He's seen people use these on the Ship before, and the little guys have a ferocity in battle that would compliment Bulwark well....Except this one looks a little lazy
Watching it eat for a moment, Matt looked over to Bulwark "What do you think Bul, wanna try and battle it when it finishes it's food?" He glances over, having said it loud enough to gauge the Nidorans reaction

"Odd-ish," it said, giving an exaggerated pair of nods. Or were they bows? It was hard to tell.
"Odd, oddish," it said, walking right up to your feet. It was staring straight up at your eyes...what did it want?
Valerie
The snake recoiled at your shouts and coiled up. It didn't strike, but it did leer at you from a defensive posture. It seemed to not notice Dinah at all...and the snake seemed ready to strike at a moment's notice.
Matt
Bulwark looked at the Nidoran, then at Matt and shrugged. The Nidoran, however, heard what Matt had said and sighed. It got up, walking to the edge of the little clearing, and put its carrot down. Stepping back into the central area, it adopted a serious battling posture, eyes fixed on Bulwark, who was slow to catch on.
The Nidoran's eyes suddenly glowed a luminous blue, as well as its outline. Just next to Bulwark, mere inches away, the dirt exploded, sending up a small cloud of dust. The Nidoran made an irritated sound. "Tch...Nid," it said, eyes fixed on Bulwark.

Steven smiles at the Oddish, an eyebrow raised as the turnip looks up to him, as if asking for something. "What's up little dude?" He tilts his head sideways a bit, trying to guess what it wanted. Intuition to guess what the Oddish wants: 14

Shaking his head a bit as the Nidoran glowed a slight blue, Matt didn't falter "I guess it wants to battle after all. Alright Bul, rush up and get this party started with a Mud Slap!"
Bul moved as far as his little legs would take him before kicking up a clod of dirt towards the Nidoran

It seems clear to you that the Pokemon wants to come with you. The idea of going out to find new things, instead of waiting for new things to find it, excites it! And you seem nice enough.
Matt
The mud clods seem to take a toll on the little Nidoran, and it mutters in frustration "Nidoran..." It back away from Bulwark, creating more distance with the Aron, and glows blue again, launching another psychic onslaught at the Aron.

Steven's face lights up as he understands that the Oddish wanted to travel with him. "You wanna join me then, do ya? That's alright. That's cool. Well then," he gets out a pokéball and holds it up near the Oddish. "Just tap the button and you can come with me, 'kay?"

Julie blinks as she looks down at the little dancing pokemon. Part of her wanted to just continue onwards, but... look at it, it was so cute! She quietly sits down on the ground and watches it perform for a little while before eventually letting out a soft giggle. "You're pretty good there, little one." She pauses a moment in thought, then looks down to Tear. "Tear, I don't suppose you could sing a little song for it to dance to, could you?"

"Look," Val continues, staring down the snake - even though the leering back made her uneasy - "The way I see it, there are three options. One, you go off on your own merry way, go chase that food. Two, you come with me quietly, and we go from there." She actually surprised herself at saying that, but she recognized a bit of herself in the snake - namely, trying to stare stuff down. "Or three, we fight. I'll give you one warning, though. The last Pokémon that decided to cross my path earlier, well, it's busy knocked out on the forest floor. So you'd better decide. Do you want the easy way, or the hard way? Join with the predator, or end up as prey?" She stares right at it, Dinah's Reflect helping her confidence somewhat if the snake decided to strike. If the Ekans submits, then, well, I'll base my next post on that.
If it attacks, Dinah Secret Powers... and, misses. Terribly. Yay.

The Ekans seemed to not be taking Valerie's chiding well. It was the predator here, these were its hunting grounds, and it would not be bullied! It had noticed Dinah, and now the snake sprang forward at Dinah in her hiding place, fangs wide and dripping with venom.
Steven
"Oddish!," the pokemon says eagerly. It jumps up, tapping on the button and being suddenly sucked into the pokeball. The ball shudders only once and then chimes. Oddish was caught.
Julie
The pokemon starts at your giggle, spinning around d to face you, and blushes nervously at the praising comment.
Tear looks unsure, but willing to give it a try. "Tympole!"

Julie smiles warmly at the little pokemon, noticing its apparent shyness. She gives it a reassuring smile. "You were really good! Once you and Tear start, I'm going to try and join you in dancing, too, if that's alright?" Julie then sets Tear on the ground and stands up, waiting for her to begin singing so that she can join in with the little... what was it? Looked sorta like a Budew? That sounded about right. Thankfully, Dinah's psychic barrier seemed to help absorb a bit of the impact, but Val still worries a little about the celluloid Pokémon. But only a little. They had a fight on their hands. "Dinah, Secret Power. Show that snake that we aren't to be trifled with!"She did admire the fact that the snake wouldn't back down, though. There was something to be said about tenacity like that. It spoke to her. Well, time to see if I can make my first capture... she thinks, waiting until Dinah strikes before hurling a Pokéball at the Ekans. Dinah activates Reflect.
Secret Power on Ekans (15 vs AC 2) for 26 Special Normal Damage, and Ekans falls Asleep.
Move identification: 8
Val holds until Dinah attacks, and then throws a Pokéball at the Ekans. (15 vs Ac6, 25 for capture.)

The Ekans darted back, launching a volley of poisonous darts at Dinah which struck her hard...but not hard enough. Dinah struck back with a blast of energy that left the snake dozing...and then came the pokeball.
The ball shook three times before chiming. The Ekans was caught.
Dinah, however, didn't look so good. The little cellular pokemon was having difficulty staying afloat...it looked like that last attack had poisoned her!
Julie
The "Budew" nods nervously. Tear starts to sing, and it's surprisingly good. After a little while, the "Budew" finds the rhythm and starts dancing, and then you join in. Although "Budew" is still keeping it's distance, it does seem to be warming up to you as the three of you dance.

There was a thrill that went through Val at realizing that she'd actually caught a Pokémon... but that quickly dissipated when she notices Dinah struggling. Rummaging through her pack, she pulls out her first aid kit, before setting to work on trying to heal the Solosis. Luckily, Dinah was a quick healer, so it went swiftly. After that's all done, she collects the Pokéball next to her, to look at her newest acquisition. Drain 1 AP to use First Aid Kit to heal 13 HP, and Quick Healing to heal 1 injury and another 8 HP.
