The Ekans sleepily raises its head (the Flabebe on it making a squeak of protest as it gets jostled) to watch Melanie's movements, until it seems to reassure itself that she's not coming near it and relaxes again. "Bleh! You're right. Not good to eat." Inside the chest, the Gastly spits out the bandage and floats back up to perch on the rim of the chest, looking between Melanie and Kyria. "They tried. Then we came here. They haven't found us. But now you're here you can protect us!" The ghost gives its biggest grin (which, since it's a Gastly, is a pretty big grin) to the three of you near the chest. |

Lewis looked back at the crew of baby ferals, and smiled. Even if shed a less heroic light on his actions and those of his friends, it was nice to see that the dungeon protected such innocence. He took one last portrait of the feral kids playing together, then packed up.
"Hey guys, do you think we should head back? Pansage is waiting for us, after all"

Oh. Oh, dear, this is going to be a problem. They can't just leave four children down here... but they still have Pansage to rescue (and maybe the flower basket), and they can't send the young Pokémon out, either - none of them have Explorer Gadgets, of course. Besides, leaving them on their own outside the dungeon would probably cause trouble.
"Of course we will." Melanie smiles back at the Gastly (though Cubone smiles are a lot smaller than big ghostly grins) and glances around at the others. "Mawile? Boys? Can we talk privately for a moment?" She can see Eevee's all ready to go, but she doesn't think he's aware of the new wrinkle to their operations.

Virgil had been eying the Gastly warily as it had bounced about. It was probably harmless but still. Plus the treasure wasn't nearly as valuable as he thought. How's a potion get down here anyway? He too hops over to Cubone as well. "What could be wrong? These ferals seem pretty calm," he says but a bit of uncertainty slips into his voice again. Why else would she call them all over.

Kyria motions that she needs a moment and climbs out of the chest, going over to the other three, concern on her face. "This could be alot better but things are about to get complicated." She looks over to the peaceful ferals, waiting for Melanie to tell them.

Melanie nods. Naturally, Mawile understands. She keeps her voice low to try and keep the Gastly from overhearing. "I think I was right - these four aren't ferals, or not in the same way most of the Pokémon in Mystery Dungeons are. The Gastly says the others attack them, so they hide in here. Expects us to protect them now."
She looks around at the other three seriously. "I'm not going to leave four kids down here alone in hostile territory. But there's Pansage to rescue, too. How are we going to do this?" Melanie, at least, doesn't consider rescuing the kids to be negotiable.

Well this was certainly an unpleasant development. "Not ferals...?" So they really weren't ferals. It would complicate things for sure. "We can't take them down with us, er, can we?" Virgil thinks on it for a moment more, "Plus it'll be hard to keep track of them...won't it?" He isn't against taking the 'ferals' but he's still not sure what they can do to help them.

Lewis blinked. He was not expecting this of all things. If nothing else the problem had an easy solution. The eevee tore off five pieces of parchment and scribbled something to the effect of "Friendly, don't harm, look after until we get back
"So here's my proposal for plan A, we lead them to the staircase, one of us takes them back to the entrance, and then rejoins us by staying on the same frequency. I know that means trying to corral these kids to the staircase without them getting hurt by other ferals, but even in our weakened states I think we can handle it"
Then Lewis has another idea, and his face immediately contorts with shame. "Alternatively, and bear in mind I really do not advise this course of action, and am only adding it for theoretical discussion, we could knock them out, and hope that they go through the same process that Deerling went through. I know, that it runs an infinite number of risks given the unexplained nature of Mystery Dungeons, and is unthinkable given that we're dealing with children and such cruelty would be abhorrent...why the hell did I even mention this , screw that plan let's stick with the notes"

"Err maybe someone should stay with them..." Virgil puts forth quietly. "They could still wander off. And the townspeople might mistake them for actual ferals." Virgil pauses, "U-unless they do change like Deerling. But even then..."

Melanie was giving Eevee a disbelieving look, right up until he gave up on that second idea. "Spoink is right. Someone ought to stay with them. Unless they change the way Deerling did, they don't speak the language, and they are children."
She turns toward Mawile. "Would you? You can talk to all of them. I can only talk to Gastly, and I'm not sure about getting through to the other three through her." Most Gastly she's met have a tendency to play jokes, after all. That, and Mawile's the most injured, but the way she's acted so far, Melanie's not sure if she'll take offense to having it pointed out.

Kyria sighs and nods, she knows the situation and she wouldn't really let the others leave with the ferals anyways. "I was about to suggest the same thing. We just have to get them to the stairs safely." Kyria then turns to the ferals, taking a step forward. "We cannot stay, but what we can do is help you escape this place, and take you to a safer location." Kyria tries to say this as calmly as she can, to keep the gentle vibe. |

Virgil frowns. He isn't particularly fond of this plan. It was a good one but he really doesn't want traverse the dungeon without her. But he still couldn't argue against it. Rescuing the ferals would get her out of harms way. "I, I guess that would be for the best," he adds quietly, watching as Kyria goes back to talking to the ferals.

The ferals - including the Ekans, who obviously wasn't quite as sleepy as he was pretending to be - perk up pretty noticeably as Kyria talks to them. After a moment in which the four of them look between each other, the Gastly chitters back at Kyria. "Safe is good, but...escape? Escape where?" |

Kyria looks back at the rest of the party, she didn't want to make promises she couldn't keep. Melanie has absolutely no idea what Mawile is saying, but she sees that nervous look. She steps forward and puts a hand on Mawile's shoulder. "We'll back you up on this when we get back to town, I promise," she says quietly.
She lifts her head and addresses Gastly directly. "If anyone gives you any trouble, let me know. I'll... talk to them." Her tone darkens on 'talk', and a ghostly light flickers in her eyes. It's just possible that she's remembering the reaction the town meeting had to Deerling and preemptively getting protective.

While he isn't sure exactly what the feral Ghost had said, he does have to chime in with Cubone. "Yea! You don't need to worry about us. We've got you, errr assuming this is about these guys and not something else..." Best to cover all his bases he reasons.
Virgil does have one concern, "We're still gonna head towards the center of the dungeon right? The little ones are gonna stay in the middle right?" Having the babies in the middle would keep them safer than anything else...but it might cause some problems if they panicked.

The ferals flinch slightly at something Kyria says, but they seem to calm down again pretty quickly, and after a few moments form a tight-knit group in front of Kyria (the Flabebe still perched on top of the Ekans' head.) "Okay!" chitters the Gastly. "...how do we get there?" |

Kyria is actually unsure, her memory of her leaving is hazy at best. She replies to them, clearly ready to take them out. "We head for the stairs, the pathway down and hopefully we can leave from there. That is a quick way we can escape." During the second sentence she tries to motion to the rest of the party.
Her response will change alot based on if she actually knows how she escaped the dungeon herself in the past. It was never discussed.
