Vincent eyes the playing Pokemon with disinterest clear in his eyes and expression. He doesn't even attempt to hide his feelings this time and as a result, some resignation shows on his face when JoJo decides to sit down and watch the Pokemon play.
He suppresses a sigh and forces a small smile. "Not that this isn't heartwarming and all, but we don't have much time before nightfall. I'd like to catch a Scyther before then if possible. Let's move on, please." Sitting down here in the forest really isn't a good idea and who knows what could be watching them. Maybe that Oddish and Wurmple aren't as alone as they seem.

"I shall catch up," says Jax, excitement in his voice. "I do not have Pokédex entries for these two. Remember that your Pokédexes function as phones. Call me if you need any help."

While Jax hangs back to get information on Wurmple and Oddish, JoJo and Vincent move on. Not 5 minutes later, they begin seeing signs of a large Bug nest nearby. There are a few sleeping Kakuna on trees, which means the main hive is probably nearby. Approaching the hive would likely be very risky, but there is nothing actually preventing the group from attempting it (or running for the hills before they decide to swarm).

"Hmm, it's probably best to avoid the nest of Bugs," Vincent whispers to JoJo. He can't help but appreciate the sheer intimidation factor that even weak Pokemon can amass just by appearing in large numbers.
Vincent begins to walk around and away from the hive and motions for JoJo to do the same.

Make a stealth check to sneak away if that's what you plan to do.

Vincent tries to be quiet and to avoid notice by the bugs. He hopes JoJo can do the same. If not they're going to have to run if the main hive - which is likely to be nearby - comes along.

In lieu of delaying further for madviser to post, I'll go ahead and perform her roll for her. JoJo's attempt at stealth _rN9ZVKl1d6 vs Kakuna's Perception 2d6-2 (penalty to perception for being asleep) JoJo proves to be rather inept at being sneaky, and quickly trods on a dry twig on the ground. It snaps loudly in the oppressive silence of the forest at dusk. It's difficult to tell, since they can't move, but it seems quite plausible that several of the nearby Kakuna heard this and woke up. Several tense seconds pass as both trainers freeze in their tracks, praying they didn't just alert the whole hive to their presence. A minute later, when nothing happens, it seems that they just dodged a bullet. Probably best to leave quickly though. Just in case. 1d6·2d6-2

Vincent sighed in relief when nothing flew out of the bush at them. For the first time since they'd gone back into the woods, Vincent had considered that perhaps a Pokemon hunt close to night time wasn't the best idea. Still, now that he was here, he'd get what he wanted. It shouldn't be too difficult with JoJo backing him up and Machivelli healed up, as well as Hortensia's help... Oh no. Vincent had forgotten to heal up Hortensia. In fact, she hadn't been let out at all since the Bug-Catching Contest. If Vincent kept the Pokemon on his team in case he acquired a Scyther, he would have to make it up to her.

Jax rejoins the two. "It is done," he says. "The two Pokémon have been captured. Your 'dexes should have their entries unlocked now as well. This is going well, yes?"

JoJo opened her mouth to speak, and then remembered the swarm of Kakuna's far too close to them for comfort, so she quickly raised a finger to her lips, then gave a nod.

After a bit more walking, the group is ambushed by a small, monkey-like pokemon. The 'Dex calls it a Mankey. It seems like it wants someone to battle.

Vincent looks at the Pokemon with a deadpan expression. "I'm not particularly enthusiastic about fighting a Fighting-type with a Dark-type," he says. Machiavelli who had been walking alongside Vincent however looks ready to tear into something. Vincent notices his partner's expression and frowns a little.
Should I let Vel take a stab at combat with a Fighting-type? It just seems like a really bad idea. Well... I could catch it. I'm not particularly interested in a Mankey, but it could be useful at some point. It's not like I'm obliged to use it and I can always release it if it does turn out that I never use it. So what I'll do is let Vel get an attack in, and if it hits, I'll recall him to prevent damage and then throw a Pokeball at the Mankey. If he misses or gets dodged... hell, I'll punch the Mankey myself. That should draw attention away from Vel.
"Alright Vel, if this guy is looking for a fight, let's give him one. Use Fire Fang!"
Vincent readies himself. In his hands are two Pokeballs, one being Machiavelli's and the other being empty. If Machiavelli hits with his Fire Fang, Vincent will recall Machiavelli and try to catch the Mankey. If he misses, Vincent will drop both Pokeballs to attack the Mankey himself.

The nimble Mankey dodges both the Fire Fang and the thrown Pokeball with ease. It weathers the Faint Attack quite well, and retaliates. 1d206kBk48WB

The Mankey's eyes glint with excitement when Vincent's attack barely phases it. It draws its arm back and unleashes a rock-shattering punch against Vincent.

Studying his Pokédex all this time, Jax decides that his involvement is now necessary.
"Another Pokémon has appeared. And that Mankey knows a Move that it does not learn naturally. Something strange is afloat. Abra, come out. We need your help."
Jax tosses Abra's ball into the air to a spot within about 7 meters of either Pokémon. It opens in the air, ejecting Abra and sending the empty ball back to Jax's hand like usual.
"You know they're there, Abra. Lift them up, and then bring the two close together."
Abra acts immediately, attempting to lift the Mankey and the other Pokémon into the air and bring them into melee distance of each other. DC 10 Focus check yQI05GxL3d6+23d6+2

The cheering Pokemon seems to sense what is going on and flees as soon as Abra appears. The Mankey is lifted up, however. It thrashes about in a rage. Normally the pokedex would be able to tell if a Pokemon was owned. It has not flagged this one as such.

Vincent dodges the telegraphed blow with only a little difficulty and calls out for Machiavelli to try again. "Fire Fang, one more time!" he shouts as the adrenaline now coursing through his system begins to get to him.
Then Jax interferes and Vincent stops in his tracks, surprised. "Don't worry about me, Jax, we can take this Mankey down," he says levelly, the barest hint of a smile ghosting over his cheeks. Vincent's plan hadn't changed from the last time, even though the first attempt had failed.
Meanwhile, Machiavelli didn't care about his opponent being made immobile and rushed the Mankey down with another Fire Fang. Seeing his Pokemon act, Vincent once again pulled out a Pokeball, although this time he wouldn't drop it, he would just attack with his other hand if Machiavelli missed his attack once again.

Immobile it may be, but its defenses are still just a bit too tough for Machiavelli to breach; and while the Pokeball hits, it fails to capture it. Mankey bursts from the ball and lands lightly on its feet, the Pokeball having disrupted Abra's hold on it.
Mankey attempts that rock-shattering punch again. It's fist glows slightly as it takes a swing at Vincent. Vincent is ready for it, however, and gives it a quick jab to the face before it can hit back. It seems more injured now, but still has fight left in it.
