After that, she heads out into the main gym and starts asking around for the person moving forward to fundraising for the individual gym. She has a couple ideas who it might be but still wants to make sure.

Turns out that Missy, Nathan's little sister, is the one currently running the show, using the inherent cuteness of small children to charm people into donating small amounts to help the Gym. She also seems to simultaneously be running a bake sale for the same reasons.

"You aren't fully wrong, honestly. If 'pushing myself too hard to beat up a woman who has been a thorn in your side at the top of a gym mountain' counts. But... anyway."
She leads Missy over to the side, and makes sure nobody tattles to the boss.
"Missy, how far are we realistically from what we would need?"

"Realistically? Pretty dang far. We've gotten a fair amount of donations, and everyone who works here chipped in what they could, but Gyms are expensive to run, and if you go independent, guess who is footing the entire bill? From what I understand, 'official' gyms have most of the regular expenses covered by the League. Independent Gyms don't get that luxury. So if I had to put a number on it? I'd say we've maybe a grand total of 5% of the cost we need to go indie."

Lia looks back and forth for a moment.
"Ok the boss would kill me if she knew I was donating this much, but here."
Lia writes Missy a check for 25,000 and hands it to her.
"I love this place and Aleisandra is one of the 'cool' leaders. I hate to think of the replacement considering the amount of crazies in Kanto. So take that with my blessing."
Lia gives a wink.
"'Anonymous' blessing, of course, right?"

Kaeda departs to Celadon, assembles her team, and heads towards the gym for a rematch. Hopefully it wouldn't snowball out of control this time.

With that, Lia goes off for her work for the day. She had hoped that what she donated would help, and that something good would come out of this. In the meantime she had her job to do.
Hopefully everyone else was doing better.

No sooner has Kaeda entered the darkened Gym than she finds herself suddenly falling. Oh great, Lia warned her about this part. And here Kaeda was hoping she'd get to skip the hazing. When she finally stops falling, she finds herself somehow in nothing but her undies with none of her possessions on hand. But nobody touched her, she knows that, so how did she lose her stuff? She was conscious the whole time! Whether or not she comes up with an answer to that question, she finds herself in a small, windowless room with only a mat beneath her and a single door leading elsewhere.

Kaeda gives a shriek as she covers up, and looks around frantically. It takes a moment, but fear is soon replaced with anger. So, this is what Lia went through when she went through. She was not a fan herself. Especially when she already challenged, and didn't have to waste her time with this crap! She sighs, gets up, and picks up the mat beneath her to look under it.

Nope. Definitely not the way out. Closer inspection after futilely pulling on it for a bit reveals that it's not even a real trapdoor, but just some painted-on lines with a real handle on it to fool people. Arguably one could try going back up the chute they fell in through but..waitaminute, where'd it go? Surely Kaeda fell down some sort of shaft, and the only thing she remembers hitting on the way down is the landing. Drat, must be something that closes up to hide itself/block the "easy" path after the challenger has passed through. In the meantime though, only that obvious door seems to be the way out.

The door is opened after discovering a moderately well-hidden button that unlocks it. It opens into a long, narrow hallway that is approximately 3 meters across. At the far end appears to be another door.

Dumb tricks indeed. She walks for awhile, but makes no progress towards the door. Neither walking faster nor slower seems to affect this. A quick glance over her shoulder reveals that she has definitely made zero progress, as she's right next to the door she entered from.
