By the time midnight rolled around, the forest had become unnaturally still. Professor Hemlock had strained his ears in the minutes since he had started chanting and had not heard so much as the snapping of a twig or the whisper of the wind between the branches. Some might be comforted in thinking there was nothing around to make noise, but the professor was an intelligent and wary man. He knew that if anything, the silence around him only meant that nothing wanted to be heard by him.
But as much as his instincts told him to prepare for attack, he could not spare one bit of attention at the moment. He supposed that if anyone had stumbled upon him, a highly educated and moderately respected man, on his knees in the leaves and dirt and waving his arms around a circle of symbols he had drawn in black tar over the course of the last hour, they would find it an amusing sight. No doubt they would think him mad, or at least a very poor prankster.
It didn't matter. Let them think what they wanted. There had been too many strange occurences over the last few months for him to ignore. Unseasonal weather, objects disappearing or apparently moving under their own power, and creatures appearing that were... wrong, somehow. And now with over a dozen disappearances in the last two weeks, junkies and drifters though they may be, Hemlock could not let a little thing like his public image prevent him from doing what must be done.
Finally, the ritual was finished. There was no flash of light, no bang, nothing dramatic to indicate anything out of the ordinary had happened except for a deepening of the mist in front of him. But as Hemlock pushed his hand forward, it began to fade in front of him, looking more and more like the mist the farther he went. And despite everything this meant, all the danger and horror that could be unleashed upon their unsuspecting world, he could not help but smile in satisfaction.
He was right.

So with all that fluff out of the way, what is the deal here? Well, I'm looking at running an Urban Fantasy PTU campaign, ripping off with inspiration drawn from the Persona series of video games with a splash of the Arkham Horror board game (I will readily admit that as cool as the Cthulu Mythos is, that's my only real exposure to it). We're looking at a fairly mature supernatural mystery with just a sprinkling of horror, is what I'm saying if neither of those names mean anything to you. The game will take place mostly in Adamsgrove, a modern city on the North American west coast where portals to "Somewhere Else" have begun to open. You, o interested player, will be taking on the role of some poor, ordinary soul that has been drawn into the mystery of what, exactly, is going on.
As for the nitty gritty:
3-4 Players
Trainer level 1, no Pokémon Education to begin with (either by background or edges)
4000 Pyen (in universe, we'll be using dollars)
As Pokémon are not native to the setting, items under Trainer Essentials (pokeballs and the pokedex) are off limits during character creation, as are TMs and HMs. Crude weapons are unrestricted, but you will have to justify any simple or fine weapons in your character concept (a police officer having a baton and/or gun works, a random kid having a sword isn't as easily explained)
The mention of weapons should have tipped you off, but as there's nothing approximating a League in this setting trainer battling will feature more often than in a standard "to be a master" campaign.
Stuff from DPDoM from Blessed and the Damned is off limits (for now at least...), but everything from the Game of Throhs is fair game. Though bear in mind that right up until the beginning of the campaign, your character will probably have been living at least a somewhat normal life, meaning most supernatural features you take will represent hidden abilities and such that are awakened upon being exposed to another world
1 level 5 starter Pokémon which knows one of its egg moves (this must abide by the inheritance rules given in the September 2015 playtest packet), which you won't technically start with but will be received during the course of the first adventure. No legendaries or pseudo-legendaries. Please try and relate this Pokémon to some central part of your character's personality, identity, or life up to this point; consider it a mirror of at least part of your character's soul (anyone who is familiar with the above mentioned Persona series may have an inkling as to why)
And that's more or less it. If there's anything that's unclear here just ask!
