"Eep!" Orianne clearly looked flustered as she fumbled with the device. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as Jasmine came to the rescue. "Thanks for that. Why in the world would such a thing be on here?"
She seemed even less inclined to try again as Jean-Marie attempted to use hers, almost wincing and expecting the same outburst of loud music. When Vess came over and corrected them, she gave an embarrassed smile. "Thanks so much. Vess, could you show me how to take pictures with it maybe?"
Meanwhile, her Meowth had grown bored with posing for a picture and began stalking around the desk, investigating the professor.

Elder stares at Robin for a tense few moment, quietly thinking as he mulls over his words. After what feels like ages, he nods curtly. "Very well. I must admit, I'm curious as to the particularities of your meeting, but Isaac always liked his privacy and secrecy, so I won't push you for answers." The unsaid 'yet' hangs in the air. "As for any aid I can give you... for now it will be limited to advice. Grow stronger, make contacts on your travels, develop a name, an identity for yourself, become someone people look up to, someone they might want to follow or listen to. This will by no means be an easy undertaking, but... I believe Breomé may be ready for it again."
Meanwhile, Jasmine gives Benji a quick rundown on how to use the Pokédex, showing him where the manual is, how to access the contacts, and how to work the scanning functionality. Afterwards, she hands him back his Dex. "Uhm... might I ask... why did you draw a containment sigil on your dex? It's all tech, there aren't any enchantments on it..."
Sapphire stalks around to the back of the professor's desk, making use of her trainer's distraction to explore, and is just about to pounce on the man's shoes when a high pitched chittering noise can be heard in the office, and a barely perceptible wave and sound travels toward Sapphire, the feline barely managing to cover her ears to block out the effects.
"What in the..." the professor says as he rises from his chair, turning to glare at a small bat creature that had been hiding on one of the highest bookshelves behind him, which had apparently sent of the attack. "Bram! Get down here this instance. What are you do..." he trails off as he follows the trajectory of the attack down, spotting the recoiling Meowth. "Why hello there, little one." The now identified Bram, a tiny wyvern of a Noibat, meanwhile, flies off the bookshelf, landing on the back of the professor's chair, attention still focused on Sapphire.

Benji listens to Jasmine's explanation with unwavering attention, a gleeful fascination in his eyes. Once the girl finishes, he takes the pokédex with almost reverence.
"Thank you, Miss Wispwood, that was very clarifying," he says honestly, bowing to the assistant. He then stutters a bit to explain the next part. "It was-- uh-- that pokémon," he says, subtly gesturing up to the sigilyph, "It used some sort of psychic ability, right? Except this time I couldn't see any trace of it, which worried me. So I traced the sigil to try and prevent any residual energy to affect me." The last part he says almost to himself, his voice low and eyes to the ground, a little embarrassed to have revealed his fear.
His attention is then drawn to the sharp noise released by the noibat and the resulting interactions. Seeing it does not affect him, he turns back to Jasmine with a smile. "I should have known you would recognize it, being the professor's assistant," he says much more confidently now, resolved to change subjects. "You guys might actually be able to help me then."

Robin nods with a smile, reasonably confident she's got the professor on side. "Thanks, Prof. I'll keep in touch about it. By the way, on another topic, when you said you'd appreciate it if we lent you some of the Pokemon we catch, I'm guessing you'd like it even more if we just gave some to you if we don't need 'em?" she asks, seeing a mutually beneficial way she might be able to curry favor if she needed it.

The meowth let out a hiss as it arched it's back. Its attention was focused completely on the noibat, ignoring the professor's attempt at a greeting. Ice began to form around the front claws and it looked ready to pounce until Orianne looked up from the screen. "No." The stern command was followed by a hand reaching down smoothly to activate the ball on her waist, recalling the cat in a flash of light.
"Sorry, she is lacking in social training." Orianne seemed accustomed to giving that explanation, as if it had happened enough times that she wasn't even embarrassed about it any longer.

Vess was about to figure out and then help Orianne with the pokedex and picture functions, but then the pokemon mishap happened. She suddenly blinked and looked down at her side, to make sure Citadel wasn't getting himself into any trouble... Seeing that he was sitting as grumpily as ever by her side, she decided to test out the pokedex's scan function, see what information it would give her on Ferroseeds.

Elder smiles reassuringly at Orianne. "That's quite alright, miss Demaret. Tundra Meowth are known to be a lot harder to tame than the more urban varieties. No harm was done." He shoots a stern look at the Noibat, who who chitters somewhat remorsefully, before taking off from his perch and doing a lap around the office, taking in each person there before returning to his roost on the bookshelf. "And Bram can get a bit... protective."
With that small tussle taken care of, the professor returns his focus to Robin, considering his offer. "Perhaps, though I will admit that we have limited room and time for care for too many more permanent fixtures, and besides, there is definite merit to studying the effect of bonding and proper training on a various abilities and behaviours. So do not feel pressured to catch something merely because you think it might interest me."
Jasmine blinks a few times at Benji's explanation, clearly surprised. "That's... not how psionic residue works, rest assured. Residue itself is barely able to interact with ... anything, really, and is usually only left behind when a particular effort is exerted in terms of psychic abilities. The Pokédexes are quite light, so Argus' telekinetic abilities wouldn't leave any traces, and even if it did, it wouldn't be able to ... do anything to you... Besides, barring a few specific wards, most mystical wards and sigil don't do too much against psychic abilities." He face turns thoughtful, and her tone more absent, "Though, considering the nature of Sigilyph's origin it might be possible that its abilities might be easier to contain or control using magical means, making use of the Ste-" she catches herself, cutting off, and blushing slightly, somewhat embarrassed, "Sorry, got carried away there. Note for future research though. As for your problem, I do hope we'll be able to help you, as long as it's nothing... bad or anything..."
As Vess points her Dex at Citadel and scans him, the screen shows a variety of details on Ferroseed, both the general species and Citadel specifically, including moves, abiliies, typing, weight (apparently Citadel is of slightly above average weight for the species), height, and a small blurb.
Ferroseed, the Thorn Seed Pokémon. It uses its barbs to absorb nutrients and minerals from rock walls. The composition of its shell differs depending on the location it grew up in, and might change over the course of its life.

Robin nods. "Gotcha - I'll try to keep offers of permanent subjects to the weirder 'mon we find. 'Preciate the help, Prof." And with a nod, he leaves him to return to the others.
"So, we're gonna be travelling together, huh? Probably an idea if tell each other what we can do, what we're after and where we're looking to go, but probably best to wait for Benji to get done before we do." He says, consciously not looking back at his private conversation. Not that he doesn't have every intention of finding out what he's keeping secret, but best not to let on to that intention immediately - Benji's secrecy is something Robin will have to work on gradually.
Not that that's the only thing I need to work on, she thinks as she looks at Vess and considers her obvious social withdrawal. That, at least, she has an inroad with.
"So, Vess," he says, pulling up his Pokédex and opening it up, "seems like you've already got a handle on how this thing works, maybe you could show me the basics." He gives a gentle smile. "I promise to keep quiet while you do."

Benji blinks in surprise when Jasmine apologizes for her long explanation. "What? You don't have to apologize," he says honesty. "That was fascinating! I had no idea psychic abilities were a different category apart from magic!" he explains excitedly. "I never had the chance to interact much with psychic phenomena before, so thanks for explaining it to me. And my thing is..." he stops for a second, thinking how to categorize it.
"It's really bad, but not immediately," he confesses. "I want to prevent it from happening, though. I really hope I do," he tells Jasmine with a forlorn face, before he forces a smile. "Well, when the professor is available I can explain it. I just..." he quickly glances at the others before lowering his voice. "I'd prefer to keep it private."

Vess looks to Robin with slightly narrowed eyes. She hasn't had good vibes from them since the moment they started talking, and they didn't seem to have been having trouble with the dex like the other two... But fine. Vess gives a super basic rundown of how to press button and get the result that the button tells you to do. Vess Pokedex usage 101 where the teacher is figuring it out herself as she's teaching. It's... passable?

Jasmine nods at Benji's words. "The professor will probably have some time to speak to you after we're done here. For now we're mostly waiting on-" She gets cut off by the sound of the front door slamming, an alarmed squeak, and agitated barking, followed by a curt, muffled, "No time, Theodore!", and a set of running footsteps, which shortly herald the newest arrival, as a young boy, probably in his early teens, enters the room, carrying a messenger bag, a Rockruff at his heels. He's breathing heavy, and his hair is a wind-tossed mess. Somewhat indignant, a Cherubi, Rowan, follows behind the two, looking apologetically at Robin. "Sorry for the wait, professor," he says, panting as he does so, "Storm's gotten worse, almost got blown off a couple of times." He holds up the bag, proudly. "Got the stuff though!"r He waves at the group, smiling brightly. "Hi! I already met most of you, but I'm Aiden! I help the prof out with his research!""Good to see you made it here in one piece, Aiden," the professor says, motioning with a hand to the table, "If you would please put the items down on the table."
Aiden obliges, and places 5 packages on the table, before stepping to the back of the room, grabbing a stool from behind the chalkboard and sitting down, Rockruff settling down next to him. "These are some basic supplies to get you all started. Some Basic Balls and some medicine, plus enough rations to last you a week or so. I give these to you, with no strings attached, to make sure you can get started properly, without needing to worry about being able to catch Pokémon or heal them."
You receive the items mentioned in the app post, as well as 7 days worth of rations each.
Elder waits a few moments for everyone to take a package, before continuing. "And this leaves me with my final point. My request. This request is independent of my earlier offer, and you're free to follow up on it or not. I require some particular materials, materials that can only be found in the Grim Woods. Normally, I'd go myself, or have my assistant get them, but I'm currently somewhat confined to my tower, and I require miss Wispwood's aid in several time sensitive experiments I'm running in the near future. I'd like to ask you if you would be so kind as to head to Aconite Village and speak with Mistress Hecabe Wispwood there. If you give her this letter" - he takes a sealed envelope out of a desk drawer and holds it up - "detailing the materials I need, she'll be able to help you gather them... assuming she's willing, at least." He sighs, looking somewhat pained. "She can be a bit... difficult," - At this, Aiden, having recovered some of his breath, snickers softly - "so she might require some persuading, but... hopefully, not too much. Once you have acquired the needed materials, you can bring them over to me in person or get them delivered by some manner. You will, of course, be fairly rewarded, if you choose to aid me in this manner." He looks at the five of you expectantly, clearly expecting questions.

Benji watches as the boy makes a grand entrance and turns to Jasmine. "Him?" he says, completing the girl's sentence with a smile. He watches as the boy introduces himself and is surprised by how young he looks to be another assistant. He eyes the package with glee, taking his as soon as offered. He can see the pokéballs inside and he knows it's a fine gift indeed.
He then listens to the professor's request with interest. He knows the Grim Woods are in the northern side of Breomé, but he doesn't know how far. Still, the prospect of knowing another place is very welcome, especially if it will help the professor. If the man can really help, he might as well give whatever he can in return. He doesn't fail to notice the person they're supposed to find shares Jasmine's surname but refrains from commenting about it.
"Of course, Professor!" he says, stuffing his package into his satchel. "I've never been there, but it shouldn't be too hard getting to the city, right? I just really want to ask you a few questions about.. something else and I'm free to go."

"Yeah, sounds good," Robin says as he too picks up the package, looking through it eagerly but carefully before taking the letter, "we'll getcha the stuff, don't you worry."
Even if he hadn't mentioned a reward, Robin sees this as a good chance to get on the Professor's good side. Besides, someone being "difficult" just sounds like a challenge to him.

Orianne picked up the pack. She had the pokeballs she needed now, and an extra reason to venture to some of the wild places in her search. She even knew the basics of using that crazy pokedex, thanks to the combined efforts of Vess and Jasmine. Things were looking up. "You can count me in."
She took a few moments to go through the pack, arranging it to her tastes and clipping the empty balls on her belt for quick access.

Jean-Marie picks up the package, taking a quick inventory. "Thank you! These will prove very useful, I am sure." She discreetly disposes of the broken bits of the knock-off Pokeballs in a garbage can by the door before clipping the real ones onto her belt.

Vess quietly takes the supplies offered Aiden. That was... a lot of energy for a small package. It was nice, having pokeballs... that she didn't have to steal. Perhaps she would catch more, although she was still getting used to Citadel...
She listened to the professor's request with a moderate amount of disinterest. Go to forest, talk to some, get thing, got it. She nods in response, having no reason to refuse, but beginning to zone out a little.

Seemingly somewhat surprised by the lack of suspicion from the group, Elder nevertheless smiles as everyone agrees, handing the letter over to Robin. "Wonderful! Mistress Wispwood shouldn't be too difficult to find when you get to Aconite, you should be able to get some clearer directions at the Pokécenter there. And Aconite isn't too far away. It should be about a week's worth of travel from Seraphinite, and the path from Pyrite to there will take the better part of two days. And I believe I have now covered everything I wanted to, so unless any of you have any more questions for me, I'd say good luck on your journey. However..." he falls silent for a moment, the wind howling around the tower now more obvious, "I fear this storm is going to get worse before it gets any better. It will probably have cleared up by tomorrow, but it might be wisest to stay in Pyrite for the evening."
With that, you five are dismissed, Jasmine leading you out of the office, informing you that if you have any private manners to discuss with the professor, you're free to stick around and meet with him one on one, and if all of you want to stick together while people are having discussions, you're free to wait in the entrance area for the time being.

Benji
Having asked for a talk with the professor regarding their... family issues, Jasmine leads Benji to the professor's office, leaving the two alone afterwards.
The professor, still sitting behind his desk, motions towards the chairs in front of his desk. "Well then, mister Samsara, I believe you mentioned some family issues you wanted to discuss?"
Benji seems a little embarrassed to be alone with the professor. "Uh- yeah. Do you... do you know much about the Samsara?"
The professor folds his hands, elbows leaning on the desk, frowning thoughtfully. "I've had some interactions with them quite some time ago, long before you were born. I'd say I know more than most, but less than some."
Benji is a little relieved the professor at least know a bit. "And have you ever met the Samsara's oracle? In those interactions, I mean..."
The professor nods. "I have, yes. The oracle was the main reason of me visiting your clan, actually. Comparative research, so to say."
Benji looks confused. Comparing what? "Uhh... I don't know what that means. But... do you remember their name? They... were my family. And, uh- not like all Samsara. My ancestors, I mean."
"I was researching the precognitive talents of Xatu and Absol, comparing it to various other methods of telling the future." He makes a dismissive waving motion with his hand. "As for the oracle's name..." He falls quiet for a moment, focussing. "I believe her name was... Upkaar, if I'm not mistaken. I can't say I know too much about your family in particular."
Benji nods. "My great-grandmother," he says, a bit surprised the professor is old enough to have met her. "You must know that all Samsara are treated like family, but she's like real family. Like by blood. I come from the Oracle's line," he says, waiting to see if the professor understands what that means.
The professor nods, looking thoughtfully at Benji. "I take it from your words that the gift of sight is hereditary, then? I'll admit I didn't spent too much time researching the origin of oracle's gift."
"It's not a gift," Benji says a little too fast, too aggressive. "Uh- sorry. It's just... you don't know what happens to them, do you?" His voice is sad and disappointed.
The professor looks a bit taken aback by Benji's sudden reaction, but doesn't seem to mind too much. He shakes his head, curiosity apparent. "I can't say I do, no."
Benji sighs. "They go crazy," he says simply. "The spirits make them crazy. It happened to Upkaar, to her children, to my mother… It will happen to my sister. And it will happen to me," he finishes, serious. "I just... I just thought you might know something," he says quickly, trying to sound less saddened. "You investigate occult things, right? That's what someone told me back home. So I just thought... maybe you'd know."
The professor stays quiet for some time, looking at Benji thoughtfully. After some time, he speaks. "I'm sorry to hear that. From my short interactions with the Oracle, she was a good woman. As, I'm sure, is your mother."
"Luckily, just because I don't know much about the specifics of your family's ... abilities, doesn't mean I might not be of help. As you say, I investigate occult things" - at this, he smiles a bit wryly - "so i might at the very least be able to point you in the right direction."
Benji's face light up when the professor says that. "Really? I mean... Thank you, Professor!" he says, bowing low. "I would appreciate anything, really. I honestly have no idea where to begin. Do you... do you need to know anything? I will answer anything you want and I can do whatever you need. Really!"
Elder chuckles a bit at Benji's enthusiasm. "Well, first of, do you know the origins of your family's abilities? From what source do they gain their visions?"
Benji seems a little confused. "Uh... the spirits?" he says, not sure what else the professor might mean. "The Samsara follow spirits of nature, like most of the Bres Folk. In our case, spirits of wind and weather. And, as far as I know, my family's... ability is being able to see and hear them clearly, and they show the future. And I think eventually we just stop seeing the normal world or something."
The professor nods, looking contemplative. "Hmm... interesting. I'm afraid to say shamanism isn't really my strongest point, but..." He thinks for a few moments, before getting up and scanning through his bookcases.
Benji waits patiently, considering the professor's words. He's not sure what exactly is shamanism, but the man clearly knows more than him.
After a few minutes of searching, he takes out a somewhat old looking book. Returning to his desk, he puts the book down. It reads 'Shamanistic Practices Around The World'. "Not the most comprehensive book in the world, but we'll make do. I remember reading something that might be relevant..."
He takes a few moments to find what he's looking for. "Ah, indeed. Not exactly the same, but..." he begins reading out of the book. " 'Johtoan practices hold great value in the nature of spirits, and is adamant that the nature of a spirit influences the manner that it is interacted with and the actions it can be tasked with. Not only are specific spirits better suited for a given task, it is often the case that certain tasks gives a spirit too tight a hold of the person communicating with them, making it harder for them to be released into their home realm'. I think this might be a decent starting point in your search. Admittedly, the practices of Johtoan shamans is more animalistic in nature, but there are definitely touching points."
Benji listens to it with interest. "Ooh, that does sound relevant! So, maybe the task of telling the future is too powerful, or the spirits aren't made for that. Hmm..." he considers it for a bit, for the first time in a long time seeing a chance. "Johtoan... That's far. Where could I find more information like that, professor?"
The professor smiles slightly. "Luckily, a decent number of Johtoan practitioners settled in these very Highlands during the colonisation efforts, and some traditions have been kept alive in several communities. When you meet her, you might want to ask mistress Wispwood for advice on this matter. She is far more experienced in shamanistic practices than I am, although she can be ... difficult to get information from."
Benji smiles widely. "Oh, really?" So the mission Elder gave them is already related to his own quest. What could be more perfect? "I'm sure we'll be able to reach an agreement. Thank you so much for the information, professor," Benji says, bowing again. "It has been truly helpful."
"No problem at all, mister Samsara. I wish you the best of luck in your quest."
"I'll be in touch!" he says, preparing to leave. "Uhh, for the things you asked, I mean."
The professor chuckles. "Of course. Have a good day, mister Samsara."
"You, too, professor! Thanks again!"
Having made your goodbyes, you return to the entrance hall and take a seat as Jasmine proceeds to take Vess to see the professor. VessHaving asked Jasmine for a private word with the professor, she leads Vess back into the professor's office.
The professor nods in greeting and gestures to one of the chairs in front of his desk. "What is it you wanted to ask of me, miss Li?"
Vess doesn’t sit down in the chair, standing there with her arms crossed. "It should be a quick question. You mentioned you keep track of people that travel through the area. In the past month or two, was there a boy, about... 15 or 16, same features as me, but taller?"
The professor blinks a moment, before looking thoughtful, remaining quiet for some time. "I'm... afraid I can't say. I don't immediately recall any such person traveling through town, but my methods are far from perfect."
Vess curses quietly under her breath, then gives the professor a brief nod. "Thank you, that was all."
"Very well..." the professor says, looking at Vess intently. "This boy... he's a relative, I take it? If you don't mind me prying."
"Brother. He disappeared a few months ago."
Vess nods. "That was the primary reason."
Elder looks thoughtful for a moment. "Understandable. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help... although, if he did come through here, and didn't stick around for long enough for me to notice, he might have taken a ship out... which I'm afraid doesn't narrow down your options much."
"I may... have to ask around then."
Elder nods. "Best of luck on your search. Was there anything else you wanted to ask of me..?"
Vess pauses, thinking, but decides in the end to trust Elder. "I... think he may have gotten himself involved in some trouble. He was hanging out with the wrong crowd, and now suddenly... he's travelling across the region, and he seems to have gotten a large amount of money somehow, and seems to be involved in... strange things. Have you heard anything at all going on like that? Recruiting impoverished people, giving them money, sending them to do strange tasks? He has a horrible sense of direction, it is not like him to just head off into the wilderness alone or without reason."
The professor remains mostly impassive, though Vess thinks she might have caught a quick flash of concern. "Well... I'll be honest, there is usually things like that going on, especially in the more desperate regions like Celestite. Desperate people make for easy recruits, and all that. From what some of my contacts have told me, it might be possible that the occurrences of such recruitment efforts have been going up in the past few years but... it's hard to tell if that's actually the case or not..."
"Well. Keep me informed then. It is relevant."
The professor nods. "Of course, I'll keep an eye and ear out for any more information on the matter."
Vess gives a stiff nod, then turns to leave.
“Good day, miss Li.”
Without another word, you exit the professor's office, making your way back to the group sitting in the entrance hall. After Vess returns, Jasmine faces the group. "So, uhm... unless anyone else has anything to ask the professor, or myself, I think it's best you guys head out now. I do recommend following the professor's advice and staying in town for the night, either at the inn where you'd been staying, or at the Pokécentre. Have a safe trip."

Benji sits down after talking to the professor, his spirits somewhat lifted. He immediately takes his new pokédex out and starts reading thee manual like Jasmine showed him. It seemed the device is much more useful than he first thought, and in no time he's looking for the library function and the extensive amount of information available to him. He never had access to so much, so he takes the little time it takes for Vess to come out perusing the book the professor had shown him.
When Vess leaves and Jasmine addresses the group, Benji grins. "Oooh, a Pokécentre! I have never been to one," he says, turning to the others. "I think I'd like to go there. Uuhh-" he starts turning back to Jasmine. "Can I add you to the contacts first, Miss Wispwood?" he asks, showing the pokédex. "I know how to do it now!" he tells her with pride.

Robin shrugs. "Well, I mean, if we've got free room and board... well, room, anyway, it'd just be plain rude not to use it, eh?"
She turns to the door, once again becoming acutely aware of the ferocity of the rain outside. "Better get that done quick, Benji Boy - wanna get to town before Arceus start pissing us a downpour." She thinks for a moment. Guess the what we can do and what we're after talk can wait til we're safe there, eh?
