Orianne followed the assistant with a slight nod and an enthusiasm that was lacking on her climb up the hill. She leaned in toward Jean-Marie and spoke under her breath as they walked through the hall. "You're not off the hook. I want to know all about this sister and her scarves."
When the Professor offered up the cards, Orianne's demeanor rapidly shifted. Her gaze narrowed and she folded her arms. "If my father ever taught me anything, it was to read the fine print before entering into a contract. The offer is quite high, which means the ask is probably even higher..."
"We've only heard the offer, there's still two items that you haven't shared with us."

Robin swallows hard, doing her best to keep her head - this was pretty much the best possible reason they could have been invited, given her long term goals. However, she's far too experienced to forget the old adage - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Still, there's no reason to let on to the Professor about her skepticism, which makes it fortunate that Orianne asks the obvious question, as it means she doesn't have to. Of course, there's another question that pops into her mind.
She sits down on one of the chairs and, in the absence of a table or desk to put her feet on, she drapes a leg over the arm of the chair. "Plus, it kinda raises the question, doesn't it - why us? Must be thousands of people looking to be trainers you could make this offer to. What makes each of us special?

Vess blinks a few times at the offer. Become an official trainer? She wasn't sure she was in a place to decline, all things considered. She was out of money, had no leads, no place to call home. Free lodging at pokecenters while she figured out her life and hunted down Sevv sounded like an offer she couldn't refuse...
Which made her trust it less. Whatever this catch was, she had a feeling she wasn't going to like it. However, the others in the room had already asked all the questions she wanted to, so she remained quiet, taking everything in.
Besides, there was something else bothering her. The guy, Samsara? If she was interpreting that little conversation right, then he could see that some sort of psychics had been in the minds of the professor and his assistant? What the hell was that all about?

Jean-Marie's enthusiasm caught in her throat before she could thank the professor. Ori and Robin were right; this whole situation did seem a little bit too good to be true. The prospect of obtaining an official trainer's license was one nearly too good to refuse, but she had hardly the clothes on her back to offer. Trying not to get her hopes up, she stayed quiet, waiting for the answers to the others' questions.

Elder seems to consider elaborating his point to Benji for a moment, before thinking better of it and leaving it be for the moment, showing some amusement at the boy's correction. He sits quietly through Orianne's and Robin's questions, seemingly not fazed by their suspicion.
After waiting a few moments for the rest to add on their own questions, and getting none, he smiles benignly. "What I ask in return for those licenses is fairly similar to what most Pokémon Professor's ask when in similar situations: Assistance in my research. A dedicated trainer will in the course of their journey stumble upon rare and fantastic Pokémon, many of which will possess qualities that I am particularly interested in. All I ask of you is that you sent me what information you can gather whenever you encounter such creatures, and that you at least consider the possibility of temporarily lending me any Pokémon of particular interest that you catch, for research purposes. I hope that is agreeable with all of you?" He goes over the five of you, taking a brief moment to look each of you in the eye before moving on to the next person.
"As to why you five in particular? Well... you are here, mostly." He smiles wryly, before elaborating. "Pyrite is a small town, and it's easy enough to keep track of who's staying in town for some time, especially this early in the year. There aren't nearly as many people as you'd think that really want to become a Trainer, and in my time I've become rather adept at identifying the people that have it in them to travel across the lands, as it were. I got news that a number of young adults with potential had arrived in town, and it piqued my interest. Orianne has visited me a few days ago, and I feel I got a decent measure of her, and I had my assistants track down the rest of you and invite you over, getting a feel of the four of you in the progress. What makes each of you so 'special', as you put it, miss Romano, is that potential I saw in you, and, ultimately, simple chance of you all being here at the same time." He once more looks each of you over, smiling slightly. "Know that I'm not obliging you to anything. If you're not interested in taking up my offer, you are free to say no. If you want time to think it over, by all means do. If you have any more questions to ask of me, please do."

Benji is a little confused when the others seem reluctant. The professor is offering them something that, as far as he understands, is a pretty good thing, and yet they sound so skeptical. Wasn't being a trainer an advantageous position in society? That's what he always got from the few trainers who crossed through the Samsara's camp. Still, the professor looks unconcerned about their doubts and explains it quite well.
He listens to the man's arguments with interest. It all sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Being a trainer sounds like it brings quite a few perks and his request is quite mild. Helping his investigation? Well, that sounds even more like another perk! If Benji can develop a relationship with the professor, he would likely be closer to finding a solution to his problem. It's a win-win situation, honestly. He should really be grateful for his luck in being in the right place at the right time. "Who shouldn't leave the camp now, Chatura, you old fool?" he thinks to himself, a smirk on his face.
"I think it's more than fair, professor," he says, trying to sound casual as he looks over his new identification. "I... don't know exactly how being a trainer works, but count me in."

Vess doesn't take very long to reply. She needed this, whether she wanted to admit this or not. "I'm in." She pauses, then shifts awkwardly for a moment. "Also... sorry about your couch. My ferroseed sat on it spikes out, left a few holes."

Robin hums for a moment. It still seems a little too simple and he's sure that there's more to this that the Professor is keeping from him. However, it occurs to him that that's actually a reason to take him up on the offer - if Robin's not part of this venture, he can't figure it out and turn the tables if and when it does turn out to be a trick. Plus, he need the Professor on his side for his long term project.
Speaking of which...
Robin nods and steps forward, not letting his suspicion show on his face. "Alright, seems fair enough, guess I'm in too. Although," he hesitates for a second, putting on a show of being afraid to impose, "it's not a condition or anything, I'm in either way, but I did have something I was hoping to get your help with. Like I said, if you don't want to, that's fine, but I figure you'd know how to help a guy out," he finishes, letting the goal hang unstated for a moment, allowing the Professor to ask it himself.

Orianne was silent for a moment, taking in what the professor had said. There were some definite benefits to agreeing to his terms. Especially considering her end goal. "Yes, that's fine. I'll accept."
She didn't particularly like the borrow he had mentioned. Somehow the consideration felt like it could quickly boil down to a choice of giving up the pokemon or having the license revoked.
"My dad also says Nothing ventured, nothing earned." Taking the ID, she placed it into her satchel and looked at the others. "Now what?"

Jean-Marie practically snatches the ID off of his desk, more than satisfied with the explanation and failing to muffle her glee. "Absolutely. That is very manageable, we will not let you down." She squeaks, rubbing the ID as if to convince herself of its authenticity. After a moment she settles and turns back to the others.
"I have not had a chance to visit the shrine in the Verdant Rest Forest. At some point I would like to explore it. If we head in that direction, I'd like to stop there for a while." She pauses, realizing her assumption.
"Oh, are we traveling together? I do not mean to assume. I would not mind having company for at least the beginning of our adventure."

Elder's smile brightens as everyone takes up his offer. "Wonderful! To that end, Argus, if you would be so kind?" He says the last to the air above you, and as you follow his gaze, a Pokémon suddenly appears into view, a Sigilyph, who, with a soft intonation of "Lyyyy", telekinetically takes 5 devices out of the box the professor had been holding, handing you each one. "Pokédexes, to help you out in categorising and identifying any Pokémon you will find on your way. I have taken the liberty of adding both myself and miss Wispwood as contacts, so you can easily sent us any information you may find. I have some other basic gear for you all to help you get started, but it seems mister Hayes has been delayed in getting them." He sighs, and shares a look with Jasmine, before continuing. "Nothing to do for that than wait, and get on with my other points, which miss Dubois' words wonderfully lead into. The reason I asked you all to be here at the same time, rather than making my offer to each of you individually, is ... Breomé isn't always the safest region to travel, and as some of you might have experienced, travelling alone can be a treacherous experience. As such, the recommendation I make you, as I indeed make many of the youngsters that come here, is that you travel together, as a group, because in Breomé there will always be safety in numbers. Once again, I'm merely recommending you this, and you may do with this as you will, but I ask that you simply consider my words."
His spiel done, he turns to Vess, smiling benignly. "Don't worry about that couch too much. It's not the first time it has been damaged, nor will it be the last. We can fix it up easy enough, and no harm has been done."
He focuses his attention on Robin. "As for you, ask away. I make no promises, but I am willing to listen to your problem at the very least."

Robin smiles as she takes the dex. "Well, I appreciate it, but it's not a problem, not at all. No, it's more of an opportunity. See, what I'm looking to do is a big thing, but if it works, it'll be a hell of a boost to the region, both the morale and the economy. I'm looking to bring the gym circuit back, with any luck as one of the leaders. Now," she says quickly, before anyone can even think of pointing out the many problems with that, "I know what you're thinking - that's a hell of a lofty goal for someone like me and there's no way I could do that on my own. Well, for one thing, I'm not looking to do it on my own, that's why I'm here, and for another, well," she flicks a hand up, a pristine badge from the old Elstar gym held in her fingers, "let's just say I've got a hell of a reference."
She puts the badge away again, adding a touch of affected worry to her expression. "Don't get me wrong, I know it's not gonna be easy, but I reckon if I have your help, Professor, it may be possible and," she turns to the others, "even in the short time I've known all of you, I think I've seen that you're all pretty strong. The Professor's right - as good as we all are on our own, together we can be unstoppable. We put our minds to it, we can accomplish anything, even on a region level. Whaddaya think?" She finishes with a confident smirk, looking at both the Professor and the others.

Vess takes the trainer ID and pokedex quietly. She spends a long time staring at them, tuning out the chatterbox that is Robin. To think that she is suddenly holding things of such value. It is strange how life shifted so suddenly.

Benji listens with relief when the others agree to the request. It isn't really that he worried, but the professor had tracked them for this and the offer was good, so it would be a shame if anyone refused. He is taken aback when Jean-Marie suggests they travel together, though. Not that he wouldn't like that, but he really didn't expect anyone would offer.
Before he can agree - or say anything, really - a pokémon appears out of thin air above his head, and he instantly goes very still. He could see the trail of psychic power oozing from the flying... thing when it levitates electronic devices to the teenagers. He accepts with care the pokédex as it's deposited in his hand, and immediately traces a simple seal of protection around the object, hoping whatever psionic influence the pokémon has on it becomes contained.
He then half-listens to the professor's agreement on traveling together, then Robin's strange supportive speech after he deliberately tried tricking Benji before, but his eyes never leave the Sigilyph. The pokémon keeps floating above them, and not the excitement of an adventure nor the absolutely amazing piece of technology in his hands could distract him from the creature. His mind snaps back after a while, however, when he notices this might be the moment to present his own case.
"I--- uh--- agree with everything," he says, trying really hard to move his focus from the pokémon to professor Elder. "But I would like to talk to you professor. I came here to find you for a... family problem." he explains, finally meeting the older man's eyes. "Personal problems," he finally admits, hoping the others don't take it as an offense. He just hopes for some privacy; after all, he literally just met them.

Orianne took the pad that floated her way. She touched a few of the buttons to pull up contacts, as the professor said he had added himself and his assistant. "We need to add each other too, just in case we separate."
She moved toward Jean-Marie first to share her information. "Oh and how do these things capture information?" Determined to figure it out on her own, Orianne stepped back and hit the button on her single pokeball, calling out the feline. It arched it's back and flexed it's claws into the air as it stretched. "Sapphire, hold still so I can use this." She worked on capturing an image of the meowth.

Jean-Marie also examines the Pokedex quizzically. Her forest upbringing didn't lend itself to deep technological understanding, so anything beyond Pokeball mechanics is a little out of her depth. "Uh, yes, it would be useful to add each other's contact info to help stay in touch." She fiddles with the buttons, finally landing on a manual page. Eventually, she lands on the Contacts page and stamps her foot triumphantly before presenting it to Ori to look at.

Elder listens intently to Robin's spiel, quirking an eyebrow as she shows him the badge, but otherwise remains mostly impassive, staring at Robin as she finishes talking. "I must commend you for your ambition, for it is surely a lofty goal that you have set yourself," he says slowly, picking every word with care, "and I would be more than happy to provide you with advice, and, in due time, potentially contacts that I have amassed in my time." He lets those words rest for a few moments, just enough for Robin to start getting her hopes up, before suddenly continuing. "However, I find myself curious as to how exactly you acquired that Sleuth Badge you showed us, in magnificent condition might I add, when Isaac Knight, the only person who would hold any such objects of such quality, went missing during the Fall of Dusk, and indeed, has been missing for well over twenty years since?" His tone is stern as he stares at Robin with piercing eyes.
As the professor is grilling Robin, Orianne somehow manages to crank up the volume to max, open up a pre-installed game on the Dex, which is currently playing merrily, filling the room with vaguely cheery, somewhat obnoxious music, before Jasmine moves in to help her out, gently taking the Dex out of the younger girl's hand, lowering the volume and closing the app, before handing back the device and showing Orianne how the manual can be found, stepping aside when Jean-Marie approaches, seemingly content that together they can figure it out sufficiently. Spotting something out of the corner of her eye, she approaches Benji. "Uhm... I think the professor will probably be... busy for a bit longer. He'll probably be happy to help though. You okay with the dex?" she asks, gesturing to the device. "I can show you how to get to the manual real quick, if you'd like? I'd... I'd rather not have to deal with more of that music..." She trails of a bit as she extends a hand to accept the dex from Benji.

Here we go! Robin smiles as he takes a breath before starting. "Missing he is, and from what little I could tell, that's cause he was and is looking to keep it that way. No idea why, but I'm sure he's got his reasons. See, I ran into a friend of his - apprentice or intern or something - cause of a... bit of a misunderstanding about a case they were on," he says, looking uncomfortable - which he is, but is also allowing himself to show it to deflect any doubt about his story towards his excuse, "and, well, he was impressed enough when I got suspicious enough to look into him that I got a little audience. Course, neither of 'em was tripping over 'emselves to come out of hiding and I got no way of contacting 'em again, but I got a few badges as a token of support." He shrugs. "If I had to guess, they figure "either this guy's gonna succeed and help things out or she'll fail and we'll have lost nothing but a few bits of metal."

Vess watches the two girls stumble to use their pokedexes and rolls her eyes, walking over to them and opening hers up to the contact info. "See, you open it up like this. And then we can add each other. It's simple." After adding them both as contacts, she continues to hang around the two tech-illiterate girls, helping them out when and if they need it.

Benji is interested in Robin and the professor's chatting, even though he doesn't fully comprehend what's so important about the badge, but he is distracted by the loud music coming from Orianne's dex. He watches as Jasmine moves closer to help the other girl out and explain something. But before he has to ask for it, the professor's assistant scoots closer and offers him aid.
"Oh, yes! Please, Ms. Wispwood," he says, gladly giving her the pokédex. "I've seen one of this once, but to be honest, I have no idea how they work," he explains in a low voice, a little embarrassed by the fact. He absent-mindedly touches a blue bead on his hair, as it represents Jig, the boy who stole and showed him a dex for the first time. "The manual is exactly what I need."
