"Oh, okay!" Faith seems somewhat surprised. Perhaps Mayu comes across as very serious to others? Hm. "What did you wish to talk about then?"

This question is met with a lengthy pause. Greetings and pleasantries have been exchanged; Mayu hadn't given any thought to what comes next. Why is she bothering with this, anyway? What does she want here? Faith was helpful before, but she doesn't have any questions she needs answered right now. Still, that's the only idea she has, so she casts about for some, and finds one before the silence becomes terminally awkward. "What should I expect going into Mount Moon? I have never been before."

Faith gives Mayu a quick rundown of the general expectations one can have traveling inside of Mt. Moon. Rock and Ground-Types, some Fighting or Steel types are most common. There is also the rare dragon.

"I see. My team should be able to handle that without too much difficulty."

Faith also mentions that Zubat is quite common as well. Another 'pest' Pokemon, according to most. As a Flying-Type enthusiast, Faith respects them, but doesn't really care for them either. She's best described as 'neutral' on the subject.

"Ice should serve as a fairly effective deterrent against Zubat. I did not realize you held a particular interest in Flying-types."

"Oh, yes. They're among my favorite Type of Pokemon. Though I do realize that my primary team doesn't really reflect this. Only half of them are even part Flying. However, I also use Flying-Type moves myself, so I like to change it up a little. Surprise people who think all I have are Flying-Types. Though I will admit my team has a rather strong weakness to Ice. Even in spite of them not all being Flying."

"Ice is a very useful element... offensively, at least. It is why my parents selected an Ice-type Pokemon to blend into my DNA."

Faith nods. At some point, Mayu is not sure when, they ended up eating lunch together. For a blind person, Faith is surprisingly good at navigation. It's especially eerie that Mayu isn't certain when they went from talking in the middle of the Pokemon Center to eating in its cafeteria.
"I can certainly see the appeal of the Type, though I wonder at the phrase 'my parents selected'. You speak almost as if you were not given a choice."

"That is broadly correct. I was not considered old or responsible enough to make an informed choice on my own." Exactly how young Mayu was at the time is something she cannot afford to confide; evidence of a crime committed - even if it predates the hybrid regulation, she's fairly sure subjecting a minor to unapproved medical treatments is illegal in some way - is something that could be used against her. (Or against her parents. She won't forget that. But she doesn't dare use that weapon until she knows what the repercussions for her would be.)

Faith frowns slightly. "I see. I will refrain from prying further. This sounds like it's getting a little personal."

Mayu shrugs before remembering that Faith (probably) can't see that. "You may ask if you like. I will inform you if I prefer not to discuss a subject."

"Hm. Well, I really don't have much more to ask at present. Was there anything else in particular you wanted to talk about?"

Mayu considers this for a couple seconds. "No."

"Well then. I suppose if we've run out of small talk, best to get to our match, yes?" Faith suggests.

"Very well." That was small talk? Interesting.

Faith hums thoughtfully as she recalls her Pokemon, excepting the uninjured Noctowl, which stays outside to stretch its wings. She quickly bustles back inside to get her Pokemon (especially Noibat) patched up.

After being bloodied by Zubat, of all things - embarrassing - Mayu returns to the Pokemon Center to rest. And then train a little more, she's not sure her team in its current state is up to facing Mt Moon if even the local pests can put up that much of a fight. Maybe if Alpha were more suited to facing them, but as he isn't... time to toughen up the rest of her Pokemon a little. Timeskip time!

After a bit of consideration, she heads back to Viridian Forest to see how her team holds up against the Pokemon there. 1d81d100·1d2·1d2·1d100·1d2·1d2·1d100·1d2·1d2·1d100·1d2·1d2·1d8

After the first few encounters, Mayu had begun to think the Viridian Forest no longer held any challenges for her. She's somewhat pleased to discover that this is not the case. The new Pokemon - Lickitung - was fairly impressive, although of course they did have the advantage of numbers in that fight. Still. It's not often that Alpha finds himself challenged by Normal-types, these days. She returns to the Pokemon Center in Pewter, then spends an hour or two with the newly christened Rho: introducing it to the rest of the team, ensuring it acknowledges her authority, getting it used to her training regime, the usual.
After that, she decides to head east and explore Mt Moon again. Perhaps this time she'll fare better.

After a remarkably uneventful journey through Mt Moon, Mayu emerges onto Route 4. She makes for Cerulean City, idly keeping an eye out for interesting-looking Pokemon or trainers to challenge as she goes.
