Gene doesn't see her Totodile coming out, so she braves the stench one more and hits the Grimer with a stick again. A part of her realizes this grimer hadn't done anything wrong to her yet, but it was too late. The fight had started. Even if it was her fault, she wasn't going to just let her Pokemon get beaten up.
She regains the clarity to record Pound.
Totodile keeps on hitting, and with the poison, it starts to look injured.

Grimer's sludgy body absorbs one blow and lets it split apart to avoid a second while it keeps going; waiting for the poison to claim them. It strikes at Totodile.

Totodile goes down.
Gene is left with little other choice than to bring out the big guns: a second totodile.
This one actually has water gun.
One blue thing whacks the Grimer with a stick. The other thing spits water at it.

After being hosed down with a lovely water gun, the Grimer collapses into a puddle of unmoving goo. Doesn't make the smell any better, though.
Gene earns 7 Poke XP.

Gene quickly escapes. Wounded and hurt, she gets to the Pokemon Center stat to heal up her nearly dead party.
It's just a short detour, however, because shortly after, assuming she has time, she decides that she'll while away the rest of her day with a short trip to route 22. Why? No particular reason. She just felt like getting her foot in the wilds a little bit. As a Pokemon trainer, it was good to get used to this kind of stuff.
On her way out, she stops by the mart to buy two antidotes.

Headed out onto Route 22, Gene spots a familiar figure. It's her new favorite person, tater tot Emiko! Seems she's been quite busy, as that Cleffa she had earlier has been 'replaced' by a Clefairy!

"Oh! Hey Tater Tot!" Gene shows no shame in interrupting her fellow trainer's training. However, it also wasn't like she didn't expect any consequences. Already figuring what kind of mood Emiko must be in now that her training was interrupted by a nickname she hated, Gene obliged before even being asked, "I bet you want a battle now, huh?". In one hand, she held up a Pokeball of her own.
Wait a minute... Emiko... training on route 22... She steps a little too close to the town while training in the wild grass... Then a trainer she met just the other day comes over, "insults" her, and challenges her?...
Was Gene the bad guy rival here?

Emiko growls (cutely) as soon as she hears that horrid nickname. When Gene pre-empts her desire for physical harm by issuing a challenge, Emiko adopts a sadistic smirk that looks terribly out of place on her child-like face.
"Oh, we'll fight alright. This time, directly!" Before Gene can offer a response, Emiko shouts 'Henshin!' and is suddenly enveloped in a brilliant pink energy. When the energy fades, Gene no longer sees her 4'3" 'tater tot', but instead a young woman. A composite bow materializes seemingly out of nowhere and Emiko pulls the string (that wasn't there a moment ago) back, an arrow of pure energy readied.
"You ready for this?" She asks with that same sadistic grin. Her voice sounds so much more mature now. The physical changes alone are crazy. Where her loose-fitting T-shirt and pants were, she now sports an entirely different outfit more suited to battle.

"Oh! The cute tater tot evolved into a french fry!" was only Gene's first remark. Her second was, "But shouldn't a magical girl form be fueled by love and friendship? Awww. I didn't know you felt that way about me~"
Gene sends out her own starter, and the naughty Pichu comes out of the Pokeball she has in hand. "Ready," she assures.
Pichu and Gene init - 10
Gene issues focused training and quickly steps away from the fight. Not much she can do against someone with a bow and arrow, but at least she can prevent being pounded into the dirt by the clefairy.

Emiko's eye twitches violently. First when being called 'french fry' (despite it fitting the nicknaming theme), and the second at the insinuation that she loves and/or considers Gene a friend. Psh. Yeah right! She merely scoffs though, muttering 'believe what you will' as she whispers something in a strange language before firing the projectile set in her bow. Said projectile turns into a long line of energy that zips over Pichu and slams into Gene. Surprisingly, Pichu is staggering as if hurt by the attack. Must be some sort of magical shenanigan.

"Words will never hurt me," was a flat out lie. Gene was very much hurt by that disarming voice, and she dramatically clutched her chest to show as much. She tries to move even further away from the fight to avoid the line of attacks like that.
Pichu is quite obviously confused. However, what could Gene do about that? Only use a less damaging move in the hopes of reaping some side effects. Pichu uses Thundershock at Gene's Focused Training.

It would seem that Emiko is still a bit miffed over those nicknames that Gene has pushed on her. She pulls her bowstring back and launches a singular projectile into Gene's chest. Ouch.

Things aren't looking so good. Pichu is asleep and Gene took an arrow to the chest. Though, she supposes it's better than an arrow to the knee.
"Hey, French Fry," she asks, foreseeing her rival's fate of losing to Emiko, "If I white out, take me to the hospital, will you?" Nevertheless, she doesn't give up. She walks up to her Pichu and pats it awake.
If the Raven will be so generous as to allow this to happen before Pichu's turn (sharing an initiative, it's hard to tell who goes first), then Pichu jolts awake and uses another present on Clefairy.

Pichu went down. Gene replaced him with the lvl 10 Totodile before also going down herself.
Standing alone on the field, Totodile knew what to do.
After taking the tackle, he water gunned the Mareep.
