The mysterious voice up above was absolutely right. After finding no clues outside, Gene ventures inside. Regardless of the risks, she wasn't going to just leave something so mysterious behind. She wasn't killed as soon as she passed the barrier, which was as good a start as any. Right in front of her lay an altar, and with equal parts trepidation and excitement, Gene approached the artifact that sat upon the pedestal. The cleanse tags that lay around it were as clear a testament as any that Gene should steer clear.
However, she didn't. She picked up the rock instead, feeling the jolt run through her arms and sending chills down her spine. She's staring at it, picking up the little details, including that strange number 108. 108... 108... It had entered her head so mysteriously. Was there a significance between that number and this keystone?
Gene stares at the stone and considers...
7TEIdRsV2d6 I know what this is but does Gene know what it is? Her poke ed and occult ed scores are the same.
If she figures out that this is a Spiritomb, or at least some sort of Pokemon, her generic trainer instincts prompt her to try and catch it while it is still laid dormant.
If she doesn't figure that out then she'll err on the side of caution. After looking around again, Gene will leave with the stone tucked in her bag. She'll make the trek back to Pallet Town if she has to in order to get an expert to look at it.

Gene has a feeling that there is significance to the number 108, but can't quite place it. Deciding to keep it for now, Gene quickly scoops the thing into her bag and departs the shrine. No more than 2 minutes later, she's back at the entrance to that side street, and suddenly assaulted by the sheer amount of background noise present in a city. It's only just hit her now, but back on her little 'spiritual journey', there was absolutely no sound. Not even the sound of shoes scuffing on pavement as she walked. Just dead silence.
After a minute or two of recovery, Gene decides the Pokemon Center is a good starting point. The moment she produces the keystone and presents it to Nurse Joy, everyone else in the room who sees it makes rapid gestures of protection against evil (superstitious lot, aren't they?). Nurse Joy, on the other hand, merely smiles softly and explains exactly what it is that Gene has stumbled across.
"This object" she explains, "is what is known as an 'Odd Keystone'. It contains 108 souls that have been trapped in the Keystone for misdeeds in life. They have since become the Pokemon known as 'Spiritomb', a Ghost and Dark type. They are known to be quite aggressive, and some of them are quite ancient. This one doesn't seem so old to me, based on the state of the Keystone." She continues as she motions to the marks on the back. "Each of these marks represents one soul. As you have realized by now, there are exactly 108 of them. These Cleanse Tags keep the Pokemon at bay. Trapped fully within its Keystone. As soon as you remove this one here on the front, the Pokemon will begin to awaken. The more tags you remove, the faster it awakens again." Nurse Joy states. She goes on to inform Gene that while aggressive, the Pokemon themselves are not evil, despite superstition suggesting otherwise. They are no more evil than any Dark-Type Pokemon like Murkrow or Houndoom.
The downside of all of this is that while Spiritomb is stuck inside the Keystone in forced hibernation, it cannot be properly captured in a Poke Ball. If Gene wishes to capture it to befriend it (or something), she will need to first remove the Cleanse Tags. After that, it should be treated just like any other Wild Pokemon. "However," Nuse Joy cautions "depending on how long this Spiritomb has been trapped in there, it may take extra effort to weaken enough to be captured. Just so you're informed."

Gene glances skeptically at the superstitious lot, all of who clearly have a better idea than she about what she had brought. Otherwise, she listens attentively to the nurse's explanation, nodding along with each new piece of information. She decides to heed the nurse's warning, especially after remembering just how many cleanse tags had been surrounding this Spiritomb originally, answering, "I see. Thank you, Nurse Joy. For the time being, I think I'll keep the Spiritomb dormant. At least until I can get a Pokemon that can inflict status on it."She goes on to ask a question that's been bugging her since she reentered the city and had been assaulted by its noise, "By the way, by any chance, are there any urban myths in this city about suddenly walking into a space that's dead silent and filled with cleanse tags?". Gene didn't know exactly how rare these Pokemon were to come by. Perhaps all of them were generally found in such locations, separated from the world around them. However, to her noob self, it was still interesting and worth inquiring about. To: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99627/thread

Miranda smirks, as if she hears this question every day. "I only accept challenges from an individual once per week. That means if you lose, you can't challenge me in this way again for a week." She calmly informs Gene. "We will use two Pokemon each, so choose wisely."
When Gene agrees to the terms, Miranda opens up with a Spinda.

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99633/threadGene sends out Pichu as her first Pokemon of choice... Which is immediately met with regret. Nonetheless, she keeps a cool head, recording the Spinda with a swift action an 1 ap while issuing focusing orders to Pichu with her standard. Gene winces as she snapchatots the Copycat move from Spinda with an AP and a swift action on one hand. In the meantime, the other returns Pichu and sends out a yet unnamed 'gator. Specifically, a lvl 7 Sandile.

The alligator looks around the battlefield rather calmly. He's quite tame and demure in spite of his large row of sharp teeth. He doesn't even look angry when he uses Rage upon Gene's focused orders.

Gene loses qwq .
Her last Pokemon is returned and, with one cheek puffed up with frustration, she mulls over what she had seen, including the recording of Tackle as a swift action. "I see. I see. I've been bested because my Pokemon can't take enough hits but don't deliver a hard enough hit in return."

Gwen earns 5 Poke XP for the attempt, but does not need to pay prize money.
"My Spinda is rather hardy, yes. It's rare for beginner trainers to best it." Miranda states matter-of-factly. "Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll do better next time." Miranda assures her. She doesn't appear to be trying to be condescending; she merely tells it how she sees it and tries to encourage opponents for the next time.

"Yes!" Gene takes the encouragement well, "I'll definitely pay a visit again, then! By the way, thank you for letting me keep my money!".
For now, however, she continues off to explore the rest of the city. She decides to head to the park for some fun times.
She chooses to make a makeshift rod with a pokeball tied on the loose end of the string and do some mock fishing in the small pond. Really, all of it was just her goofing off and having fun in the lazy afternoon. She didn't actually expect to catch anything in the pond...

The park is fairly sparsely populated. Only an elderly couple and some random Pidove in the area. It's really uncertain whether or not anything actually still lives in this pond...that is, until something latches onto Gene's rod and pulls.

The pond pulled on Gene and Gene, enthusiastically, pulled back. She hadn't expected to actually hook a catch, but she hadn't been negligent of the rod either.
To her side, one of her Totodile, not the largest one of the trio, that she had sent out to keep her company was also alerted to the sudden spike in activity and stood at the ready. It had been chasing a butterfly just earlier, before it was distracted from chasing the butterfly by the sudden activity of its trainer.
"If I can't get this out," Gene says to her Totodile through gritted teeth, "Dive right in and bring it out for me, will you?".

Whatever is on the other end seems pretty strong...and the stick broke. Hm.
...
Wait, is something surfacing? When Gene unconsciously leans in a bit closer to maybe try and see what was coming up from the water, she is suddenly met with nasty, foul-smelling water practically exploding in her face as a blob of purple goo leaps out at her. It's a Grimer! Apparently this water wasn't as clean as people thought! The elderly couple who had been watching with mild interest as Gene's rod suddenly got pulled quickly cover their noses at the smell and flee the area. Any other local Pokemon do the same.

Gene is so appalled by the smell, that she gave the grimer a smack with the stick herself, while shouting out at her little Totodile, before it got too distracted, "HIT IT WITH A WATERGUN! CLEAN IT. CLEAN IT!".
Unfortunately, in her frenzy, Gene forgot this Totodile couldn't use Water Gun. However, it did its best, using a water-type Struggle instead.

Grimer is whapped twice. Unfortunately, being so close to it turns out to be a poor idea when it belches out some really nasty stuff.

Gene and Totodile cough, hack, and are just all around not enjoying this.
Eyes watering, Gene stumbles back to get out of the cloud of gas, shouting to her Totodile to be, "Careful in there! Watch out!". Her following words about getting away from the stinky mon are lost in a series of coughs, but at least her inspired intent sort of got through? [Inspired Training]
The Totodile continues to pound away at the Grimer, also not happy with this Grimer but remaining to finish the Grimer off as quickly as possible instead of running away like Gene.
